David Elliott, Jr.
David Elliott, Jr., age 49, celebrating his homegoing on Friday, March
30, 2001. Born May 31, 1951 in Canton, OH. David graduated from McKinley
High School in 1969 and was in the U.S. Air Force from July 2, 1976 to
January 18, 1980 and was an employee of Walsh University. He was a member
of Union Baptist Church, where he served in the Mass Choir, Male Chorus,
Kitchen Committee and Assistant Manager of the Food Bank. David leaves
to treasure his precious memories, mothers of his children, Linda Elliott,
Reba Champion; son, David Elliott, III; daughter, Carlena Elliott; parents,
David and Hattie Elliott, Sr.; brothers, Charles (Suk) Elliott, Rodney
(Tina) Elliott, Michael (Alvena) Elliott; sister, Denise (Sam) McLeod,
Cheryl Richardson; special companion, Mary Gates; and a host of aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral services will
be conducted Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church,
413 Cornelia Ave. NE, Canton, OH 44704 with Rev. Sherman Martin officiating.

Donald Glen Taylor
Donald Glen Taylor, age 82, of Chester, died April 3, 2001, in Chippenham
Medical Center. Mr. Taylor was born in Waynesburg, OH, a son of the late
Charles V. and Rena Gibler Taylor. He was a World War II veteran having
served his country in the U.S. Army Marching Band and Orchestra and was
a retired tool and die maker from the General Motors Corp. plant in Columbus,
OH. A loving father and grandfather he was preceded in death by his beloved
wife of 58 years, Ruth Alice Taylor. He is survived by five children, Don
S. Taylor of Kenner, LA, Rebecca L. Skirbunt and Martha L. Johnson, both
of Chester, Deborah A. Wise of Lexington, OH, Christine L. Jenkins of Dothan,
AL, Mark V. Taylor of Chester; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 7th in the
Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss Son Funeral Home. The interment will be

Fama L. McCoy
Fama L. McCoy, age 89, formerly a resident of the North Canton area
all of her life died Monday in Coshocton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of Werner United Methodist Church and a former member
of Daughters of America. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert and
Harriette (Bunny) McCoy of Coshocton; grandson, Michael Clarke McCoy and
wife, Peggy of Coshocton; granddaughter, Kelly Anne Wegener, and husband,
Gus of Cincinnati; great-grandchildren, Megan and Katie McCoy, and Rachel
and Benjamin Wegener. Preceded in death by husband, Theodore McCoy in 1973;
parents, Foster and Laura (Miller) Combs; brother, Paul, Emmons and Lawrence
Combs; and sisters, Theora Bixler, and Orintha Smith. Funeral services
will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home, 512
S. Main St., North Canton, with Rev. James Woodring officiating. Burial

Gary E. Rogers, Jr., Service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in

Gladys M. Christy
Gladys M. Christy, age 87, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, April
4, 2001, at Green Meadows Care Center in Louisville. She was born in East
Rochester, OH, Aug. 3, 1913, to the late Clay and Lulla May (Bell) Edwards.
Gladys was a former employee of Republic Steel and retired from the Lordstown
GM Plant. She was a member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1965; a daughter, Mary
Christy; three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a daughter,
Sandra Flinner of Canton; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Jane
Christy of Louisville; two grandsons, Van Eric Christy of Louisville and
Trevor Christy of Akron; four great-granddaughters. Services will be 10
a.m. Saturday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville with Pastor
Donald Smith officiating. Friends may call one hour before services. Interment
will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Hanoverton, OH. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Louisville.

Jesse Wayne Graves
Jesse Wayne Graves, age 56, went home to be with the Lord on Friday,
March 30, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center. Jesse was born April 15, 1944 in
Akron, OH. He graduated from McKinley High School, Drake University in
Des Moines, IA., and the University of Philippines in Manila, Philippines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Caldwell and Gladys Graves Sr.;
brother, Roscoe Graves; sister, Lillian Jackson. He was a member of the
House of the Lord in Akron, OH. Jesse is survived by his sisters, Joyce
(Clarence) Holcombe of Canton, Mona May of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers,
Caldwell (Brenda) Graves Jr., Donald (Ruby) Graves all of Canton; and a
host of nieces; nephews; other family members and friends. Funeral Services
will be Friday at 12 Noon April 6, 2001 at Brogdon Son Funeral Ho-me, 1617
3rd St. NE Canton, OH., with Pastor Dennis Butts officiating. Calling hours
will be Thursday (tonight) April 5, 2001, 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to

John E. Alexander
John E. Alexander, age 71 of Canton passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001
in the residence following an extended illness. He was a retired employee
of Hercules Engines, retiring in 1988 after 38 years of service. He was
a member of Canton South Church of the Nazarene. John was preceded in death
by his parents, John and Alice Alexander and his sister, Mary Lou Alexander.
Survivors include his wife, Anna (Hawk) Alexander of the home to whom he
would have been married 51 years, June 28, 2001; his daughter, Debra Kay
Abramovitch of Sun City, CA; his grandson, Halion Abramovitch of Sun City,
CA; his sister, Ruth Ann Patterson of Canton. Funeral services will be
conducted Friday 1:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Warren Lukens
officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Calling hours
at the funeral home one hour prior to services on Friday from 12:30-1:30
Joyce Ann Steigner
Joyce Ann Steigner, age 57, of Cocoa Beach, passed away Tuesday April
3, at Cape Canaveral Hospital. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, she had lived
here for the past three years coming from Malvern, OH. She was a beautician.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Jackson Steigner, Jr., in 1988.
She is survived by her two daughters, Julie Jendre of Richfield, OH and
Lori Hammock of Cocoa Beach; her parents, Earl and Gladys Sponseller of
Homeworth, OH; and two grandsons, Charlie and Andrew Hammock of Cocoa Beach.
Funeral service will be held Friday at Beckman Williamson Funeral Home
at 10 a.m.
Justin Scott Peters
Justin Scott Peters, 2 1/2 mo-nth old infant son of Jeff and Tammy
(Sampson) Peters of Massillon, died Monday April 2, 2001 at Massillon Community
Hospital, following a sudden illness. He was born on Jan. 16, 2001 in Canton.
In addition to his parents, Justin is survived by two brothers, John Kennedy
and Jessy Peters, both at home; his grandparents, Dortha Sampson of Massillon,
Anna Mae Peters of Navarre, John Kennedy of Massillon, and Donna Billy
Hitchings of Massillon; his great-grandmother, Nellie Sampson of Massillon;
his aunts and uncles, John R. Peters of Massillon, Joe Jennifer Peters
of Tuslaw, Scott Peters of Navarre, Jean Ann Miranda of Maryland, Janet
Michael Friedman of Massillon, Mitch Marilyn Sampson of Mansfield, and
Jaime John Flesher of Massillon; and several cousins. He was preceded in
death by two of his grandfathers, Bernard Sampson and John R. Peters Sr.;
one of his grandmothers, Mary Lou Peters; and his great-grandfather, Cecil
Sampson. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6 at 12:00 noon at
Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel, 639 First St. NE with Rev.
W. Jay Dolvin officiating. Burial will be at the Massillon Cemetery. Friends

May Waskavitz, age 96, formerly of East Canton, died Wednesday afternoon
in the Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Daughter of the
late James and Florence (Gibons) Myers. She was retired from the Canton
Stamp and Enamel Co. Preceded in death by her husband, Joesph R. Waskavitz
in 1971. Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the North Lawn
Cemetery. The Myers-Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in E. Canton is in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Joseph E. Grieff
Mr. Joseph E. Grieff, age 84, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Gaslite
Villa following a brief illness. He was born April 4, 1917, in Perry, PA
and had lived in New Cumberland, WV. He was a resident of Jackson Twp,
Canton, Ohio for the past 14 yrs. and had previously lived in Tampa, FL
for 13 yrs. He was a retired electrician and had worked for the former
Buxbaum Company. While residing in Tampa, he had worked for Tampa Armature
for 11 yrs. He also worked at the McKinley Museum from 1985 to 1995. He
was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Chu-rch, Canton, the VFW, was an
avid sportsmen, enjoyed golfing, fishing, and bowling. He was a veteran
of the Marine Corps. and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Survivors
include his daughter, Mrs. Jeffry (Penny) Hawkins of Jackson Twp.; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Larry Kate Grieff of Oil City, PA, and Robert Judith
Grieff of Emlenton, PA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards
and Mrs. Mary Russell both of Emlenton, PA, Mrs. James (Louise) Colwell
of Knox, PA., and Mrs. Patrick (Ruth) Nufher of Warren, PA, and a granddaughter,
Cara Sirgo-Palomba of Canton, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Lawrence S. and Blanche (Barns) Grieff, and his wife, Oleta (Kelley) Grieff
(died 1996), one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held
Friday, April 6, 2001 at 1 PM at Heitger Funeral Service - Jackson Chapel,

Richard E. Meyers
Richard E. Meyers, age 64, beloved husband, father and grandfather,
of Canton passed Tuesday April 3, 2001. Born in Canton July 7, 1936 to
Molly Edgar Meyers, he was a 1954 Lehman High School and Kent State University
Graduate. A retired office manager of Petty's Jeep Marine, he was a member
of Temple Israel, Eagles #2223 and AARP. He was a Army Veteran who
loved to bowl and was a member of Professional Hall of Fame Luncheon Club.
Survived by his wife, Sheri with whom he would have celebrated 35 years
of marriage this May 28th; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Pat Manning of
Cuyahoga Falls; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Makiko Meyers of Long
Beach, CA; sister, JoAnn Mazur of New Mexico; two grandchildren, Elise
and Catherine Manning, with one on the way; and sister-in-law, Thursa (Clayton)
Beard of North Canton. Funeral Services will be Thursday 1:30 PM in Temple
Israel with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Final Resting Place is North

Viola Swigart, age 95, went home to be with the Lord. Born February
9, 1906 in Hartville, OH to the late Issac and Emma Brown (Memmer). She
was a member of McDonaldsville United Methodist Church and was a member
of First Christian Church Sunday School. She was a former employee of the
Canton Repository and was active with Children's Bureau and was a foster
parent. Preceded in death by her husband, Ellery B. Swigart in 1951; three
brothers, Ray, Kenneth Brown and Harold Memmer. Survivors include her daughter
and son-in-law, Frances and Ralph Meister of Canton; one granddaughter,
Cindi Bules of Canton; and five grandchildren, Rebecca, David, Elizabeth,
Catherine and Jonathan Bules all of Canton; and several cousins; nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. in the
Reed Funeral Home with Revs. Manly Pierce and Charles Ulmer officiating.
Private burial services will be held for the family. Calling hours in the
funeral home Thursday (TODAY) 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services on
Friday from 3-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to First Christian Church Womens Ministry Fund.
William Daniels Jr.
William G. Daniels, Jr., age 59, of Canton, died Tuesday in Aultman
Hospital after a brief illness. He was a life resident of Canton and was
the Vise President of Guardian Angel Adult Day Services in Dover, OH. Previously
he had been a Pharmaceutical Technician for JMI of Canton until its closing.
Prior to that he was Co-Manager of Lake ‘O Spr-ings and had been a managing
beautician. Survived by his wife, Vicki L. Daniels of the home; a son and
daughter-in-law, William G. III and Myla Daniels; a daughter and son-in-law,
Dinese and Mark Cramer; three grandchildren, all of Canton. Services will
be Friday at 12 Noon in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Di Sabatino
officiating. Burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 10-12
Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
