George Robert Wolph, 83, of Fostoria died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Fostoria Community Hospital at 4:23 a.m. He is survived by a son, Thomas Wolph of California; two daughters, Sharyn Huffman of Pennsylvania and Cecelia Tasker of Fostoria; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Wolph of Fostoria. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Mr. Wolph donated his body to science. Hoening Funeral Home of Fostoria is handling the arrangements.

John R. Sugrue, 82, of Fostoria died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at St. Catherine’s Care Center in Fostoria at 12:20 p.m. He is survived by two stepsons, Raymond Hamilton of Findlay and James Arnold of Chesterfield, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Rose Marie Kingery of Fostoria; and a stepdaughter and her husband, Linda and Russell Ernst of Findlay. Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Hoening Funeral Home of Fostoria, which handled the arrangements. Burial with military honors provided by the United Veterans of Fostoria was at Memory Gardens near Arcadia.

Esta M. Smith, 72, Fostoria, died Feb. 25, 2000, at 8 p.m. at her home. She is survived by her husband, Carl T. Smith of Fostoria; two sons, Erin L. Smith of Fostoria; and Kevin T. Smith of Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Carla) Coffey of Columbus and Mrs. John (Melanee) Kimble of Fostoria; a brother, William R. Sheridan of Findlay; two sisters, Wilma Cessna of Kansas and Nona Freeman of Wadena, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, with burial in Knollcrest Cemetery near Arcadia.

Eugene H. DeVore, 72, Fostoria, died Feb. 29, 2000 at 12:13 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Stella) Johnson, Fostoria, a stepson, Robert E. Johnson, Fostoria; a brother, Thomas L. DeVore, Fostoria; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis (Anna) Everhart, Tiffin; and Mrs. Floyd (Viola) Gerlach, Big Prairie; one grandchild, one great-grandchild, three stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Edward Eugene Droll, 79, Fostoria, died Feb. 29, 2000 at 5:40 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Care Center. He is survived by four sisters, Mary C. Schroeder, Florence L. Droll, and Mrs. Don (Margaret) Schetter, all of Fostoria; and Emma Sprankle, Findlay; and one brother, Clarence Droll, Fostoria. Funeral mass was Thursday, March 2, 2000 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, with burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Hoening Funeral Home.

Juanita M. Dunfee, 73, Fostoria, died Feb. 29, 2000 at 6:25 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Care Center, Fostoria. She is survived by a son, Chester E. Dunfee II, Bowling Green; one daughter, Denise Potter, Fostoria; a brother, Fred Thomasson, Oxford, Ala.; five grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. Lavera Ann Hollenbaugh, 93, Fostoria, died March 1, 2000 at 2:15 P.M. at Independence House, Fostoria. She is survived by a son, Kenneth M. Hollenbaugh, Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Marjorie Ann Munoz, Fostoria; a sister, Ada Louise Sherman, Florida; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Robert S. “Butch” Moore, 56, Fostoria, died March 1, 2000 at 12:07 a.m. at Toledo Hospital. Wilfred A. “Red” Frisch, 82, Fremont, died March 5, 2000 at 6:16 a.m. at Fremont Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 25, 1918 in New Riegel to Martin L. and Bridget J. (Reinhart) Frisch. He married Mary J. Coburn June 3, 1939 in Tiffin and she survives in Fremont.Also surviving are two brothers, Philip J. Frisch, Fostoria; and Carl P. Frisch, Kansas; and two sisters, Marie H. Gaietto, Tiffin; and Millie R. Fosnaugh, Fostoria.He was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Alvin, VIncent, and Herman Frisch.Mr. Frisch retired in 1983 from Whirlpool Corporation, Clyde, after 20 years employment. He had also worked at Herbrandt, Fremont, as a polisher. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fremont, and its Holy Name Society. He attended St. Wendelin Schools and was a World War II Navy veteran.Funeral mass is today, Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, with burial in the parish cemetery with military rites conducted by United Veteran’s of Fostoria. Mary Magdeline E. Hoffbauer, 88, died March 5, 2000 at 9:29 p.m. at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Hoffbauer, Alvada; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Judy) Hall, Alvada; one sister, Mrs. Joseph (Gervase) Rumschlag, Tiffin; and two grandsons. Funeral mass is Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Alvada, with burial in St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery. Visitation is today, Wednesday, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Moose memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. and a prayer service will take place at 8:45 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Mary Estelle Emerine, 82, Fostoria died March 10, 2000 at 8:20 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Care Center. She is survived by her husband, Harold Emerine, Fostoria; one son, John H. Emerine, Alvada; three daughters, Mrs. James (Karen) Lutz, Chatfield; Mrs. Cliff (Rosemary) Gardner, Findlay; and Mrs. Darryl (Veronica) Laughlin, Tiffin; one brother, Lawrence Higley, Leipsic; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Karis K. McBurney, 90, Fostoria, died March 12, 2000 at 4 a.m. at her residence. She is survived by a son-in-law, John Bradley, Laguna Hills, Calif.; caregivers, Cyril and Mary Ellen Gosche, New Riegel; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services are today, Wednesday, at 2 p.m. at Union Cemetery, West Independence. Arrangements were handled by Harold-Floriana Funeral Home.

Kenneth B. Knox, 87, of Findlay and formerly of Fostoria, died March 14, 2000, at 5 p.m. at Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1913 in Sweden, N.Y., to William and Electa (Buterbaugh) Knox. He married Patricia C. Lunsford June 30, 1951 at First Methodist Church, Fostoria, and she survives in Findlay.
Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth A. Knox, Plantation, Fla.; and John W. Knox, Ashland; two daughters, Betsy C. Saddler, Bowling Green; and Anita G. Guzman, Fostoria; one brother, Glenn Knox, San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda K. Knox; two brothers, Donald and William Knox; and a sister, Helen Fittro.
Mr. Knox retired in 1968 after 33 years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He has also been employed at Union Carbide, Fostoria, and was a longtime farmer and Arabian horse breeder.
He attended Union United Methodist Church, rural Fostoria; and was a member of Fostoria Elks Lodge No. 935, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans and Arabian Horse Association. He was a 1931 graduate of Fostoria High School.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 18, 2000 at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with burial in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Guadalupe Diaz, 47, Fostoria, died March 13, 2000 at her home. She is survived by her mother, Maria C. (Cepeda) Diaz-Hernandez, Fostoria; a stepfather, Eusebio Hernandez, Fostoria; two daughters, Corina S. Malagon and Jessica A. Malagon, both of Fostoria; one son, Alexander R. Brenda A. Smith, 55, Fostoria, died March 15, 2000 at 1:05 a.m. at Lima Memorial Hospital. She is survived by one brother, Douglas L. Smith, Fostoria. Edward Ivan Fox, 55, Fostoria, died March 22, 2000 at his home. Lizzie Robinson, 97, Fostoria, formerly of Webster County, W. Va., died March 23, 2000 at 12:12 a.m. at Fostoria Community Hospital. She is survived by three sons, Charles, Delbert and Monroe Robinson, all of Fostoria; one daughter, Sarah Jane Humphrey; and numerous grandchildren. Harry R. Miller Sr., 56, Bascom, died April 3, 2000 at 5:50 p.m. at Fostoria Community Hospital. Robert E. “Bob” Hogan, 69, Fostoria, died April 4, 2000 at 5:55 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hogan, Fostoria; a son, Dennis Hogan, Fostoria; a daughter, Sandra Jurrus, Fostoria; a stepson, Bob Dible; two stepdaughters, Linda Maxwell, New Mexico; and Judy Dible, Bucyrus; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren. Robert E. Stearns, 58, Fostoria, died April 6, 2000 at 9:40 p.m. in Flower Hospital, Sylvania.
He was born Feb. 10, 1942 in Fostoria to Clyde E. and Helen S. (Myers) Stearns, and she survives in Fostoria.
He married Lana Lee and they separated and she survives in Fostoria.
He is also survived by a companion, Beverly A. Hallman, Fostoria; three daughters, Mrs. William (Lori A.) Kentris, Fostoria; Mrs. Donald (Kimberly A.) Galloway, Clyde; and Mrs. William (Michelle L. ) Bowen, Risingsun; two brothers, David L. Stearns, Bloomdale; and Dale A. Stearns, Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Douglas (Donna J.) Siegel, Fostoria; and Mrs. James (Barbara J.) Turley, Fostoria; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Stearns was president of Precision Carbide Die, Inc., Bloomdale, where he had been involved in tool and die work since 1975. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church, Fostoria, and Duck’s Unlimited. He was a 1960 graduate of Fostoria High School.
Funeral services were April 10, 2000 at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial was in the “Emma Pillars Garden of Memory” at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Mabel J. Drake, 90, Findlay, died April 6, 2000 at 1:42 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. She is survived by two sisters, Leona Wagner and Dell Busick, both of Defiance; two nephews, Paul S. Busick, Nashville, Tenn.; and David L. Busick, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and a niece, Lois C. Alonzo J. Shank, 75, Fostoria, died April 9, 2000 at 7:44 a.m. at Fostoria Community Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Iola Shank, Fostoria; a stepdaughter, Margy Remy, Fostoria; four brothers, Carl and James “Bill” Shank, both of Fostoria; Richard “Joe” Shank, Atwater, Ca.; and Raymond “Gabby” Shank, Milwaukee, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Pauline K. Sparks, 84, Fostoria, died April 6, 2000 at 7:35 p.m. at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria. She is survived by two sons, Ernest W. and Robert J. Sparks, both of Fostoria; a brother, Edward Garland, Toledo; a sister, Bernice Houghtaling, Toledo; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were April 10, 2000 at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with burial in Knollcrest Cemetery, near Arcadia.

Hazel B. Kessler, 94, formerly of New Riegel, died April 11, 2000 at 4:15 a.m. in Ruffing Family Care Center, Tiffin.
She was born April 23, 1905 in Hancock County to John E. and Mary A. (Filliater) Williams. She married Charles J. Kessler Sr. Sept. 10, 1929 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, and he died March 16, 1957.
She is survived by four sons, George J. Kessler, Republic; Charles Kessler Jr. and Gerald Kessler, both of Fostoria; and Raymond A. Kessler, New Riegel; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Martha T.) Haubert, Alvada; and Rita M. LaFontaine and Annabelle M. Hemminger, both of New Riegel; one brother, Paul L. Williams, Fostoria; one sister, Clara Holman, Fostoria; 40 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Kessler; an infant daughter, Norma Jean Kessler; three brothers, John, Gilbert, and Clarence Williams; three sisters, Oleva Koch, Albertha Reinhart, and Viola Tiell; one grandson; and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Kessler retired in 1965 from Ford, Fostoria, where she worked for 17 years. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, and Women of the Moose, all in New Riegel.
Funeral mass was April 15, 2000 in St. Peter Catholic Church, Alvada, with burial in St. Boniface Parish Cemetery, New Riegel.
Memorials may be made to the church’s restoration fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were handled by Hoening Funeral Home.

Peter A. DiCesare Sr., 75, Fostoria, died April 13, 2000 at 1:50 p.m. at St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee.
He was born May 15, 1924 in Fostoria to Angelo and Angelina (Bruno) DiCesare.
He married Theresa Lupica June 26, 1954 in Bellevue and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Joseph A. DiCesare, Findlay; Peter A. DiCesare Jr., Fostoria; and John C. DiCesare, Chillicothe; three sisters, Mary J. DiCesare, Julie A. DiCesare, and Loretta “Poppie” Groves, all of Fostoria; and two grandchildren, Joseph and Mary DiCesare.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Philomena “Fanny” DiCesare; and two brothers, Luigi “Louis” and Julius “Frank” DiCesare.
Mr. DiCesare was owner and operator of Pete DiCesare’s Shoe Repair from 1950-89. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #1197 3rd Degree, where he was a long-time softball pitcher for the club team. Lucille L. Fruchey-Devore, 85, Fostoria, died April 16, 2000 at her home. She is survived by a stepson, Don Devore, Fostoria; two sisters, Maude Cattell, Findlay; and Lorene Vogel, Inverness, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Daniel Joseph Scharf, 65, Fostoria, died April 18, 2000 at 9 a.m. at his residence.
He was born Aug. 12, 1934 in Tiffin to Maurice and Helen (Fox) and his mother survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are two sons, Sgt. Maurice Scharf, Texas; and James Scharf, Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Danette Marie Scharf; and one grandson.
Mr. Scharf retired in 1995 as a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service.
He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, the Life Fleet Reserve Association, and Disabled American Veterans. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Wendelin High School and he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tiffin University.

Ruth E. Ring, 86, Tiffin, died May 4 at 5:14 a.m. at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. She is survived by seven sons, Rev. Ralph E. Stahl, 72, Risingsun, died May 5, 2000 at 1:20 a.m. at his home.
He was born Jan. 16, 1928 in Sandusky County to Erlin and Lavon (Kissling) Stahl. He married Carole Hammer Nov. 27, 1970 in Monroe, Mich. and she survives in Risingsun.
Also surviving are two sons, Ralph E. Stahl II, Tucson, Ariz.; and Joseph A. Stahl, Risingsun; two brothers, Paul E. Stahl, Fostoria; and Leighton Lee Stahl, Kansas; one sister, Dorothy Ridenour, Fostoria; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Stahl was a maritime seaman for more than 41 years and he also worked as a well driller for 10 years.
He was a member of Canaan Church of God, Kansas, Fostoria Masonic Lodge No. 288, 32nd Degree Valley of Toledo, and Zenobia Shrine, Toledo.
Funeral services were May 8, 2000 at Hoening Funeral Home, Pastor Richard Mathner officiating. Burial was in Scott-Trinity Cemetery, Risingsun.

Deb Smith, 42, Fostoria, died May 11, 2000 at 6:05 a.m. at her home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1957 in Sandusky to John A. and Elaine (Arheit) Ziegler and her father survives in Sandusky.
She married Greg G. Smith Nov. 1, 1980 in the First United Church of Christ and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Tyler and Hudson Smith, Fostoria; a daughter, Mattie Smith, Fostoria; a sister, Jody Eschenauer, Sandusky, four nieces, three nephews; and many wonderful friends.
Mrs. Smith was employed as a kindergarten teacher for 20 years by Fostoria Community Schools. She worked at Lowell Elementary, Longfellow Elementary and most recently at Riley Elementary School.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; Ohio Education Association; OSU Alumni Association; and Disney Magic Kingdom Club. She was the Fostoria Community Schools’ 1996-97 Certified Employee of the Year and was a member of the St. Wendelin Schools Strategic Planning Committee.
She was a 1976 graduate of Sandusky Perkins High School and a 1980 graduate of The Ohio State University.
A celebration of life mass will take place Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wendelin Catholic Church. There will be no visitation.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that perennials be planted in Deb’s honor.

Isidro C. Gonzales, 69, Fostoria, died May 14, 2000 at 9:46 a.m. at his home.
He was born March 12, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas to Ysidro and Soledad (Coronado) Gonzales. He married Irene Ramirez in 1952, and they divorced. He then married Delores Lopez in 1975, and she survives in Fostoria.
Also surviving are one son, Nick Ledesma, Marion; 10 daughters, Mrs. Charles (Carmen) Walter, Hope Hunt, Mrs. Kenneth (Peggy) Cousin and Mrs. Mike (Rachel) Gieser, all of Fostoria; Mrs. Felix (Christina) Lerma, Alvada; Mrs. Soledad Adams, Tiffin; Rita Ledesma, Marion; Mrs. Jim (Linda) Kenny, Tippecanoe; Sonja Ledesma, Findlay; and Mrs. Greg (Eloisa) Kisaberth, Lebanon; six brothers, Joe and Ramulo Gonzales, both of Houston, Texas; Tony, Cipirano and Mauro Gonzales, all of San Antonio; and Mike Gonzales, Spring Beach, Texas; two sisters, Frances Sierra and Janie Venazula, both of San Antonio; and 60 grand and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Crispin Gonzales, and one grandchild.
Mr. Gonzales retired from Fostoria Foundry after 30 years employment. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and its Guadalupe Society.
