emeritus at Miami University, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at his home
in Oxford.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28,
in Faith Lutheran Church, Oxford. Burial was at the Miami University plot
at oxford Cemetery.

Russell V. Brown, 55, of Liberty, Ind., died Jan.
8, 1998.
He was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Batesville, Ind.,
the son of Norma Arnold and Russell E. Brown.
Funeral services and burial were private.
Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel was

Zelma L. Clevenger
Zelma L. Clevenger, 97, of Morning Sun Road, died
Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at the Oxford View Nursing Center.
She was born on May 17, 1900, in Logan County,
Ky., to Carrell B. and Mary (Coursey) Flood.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan 28,
at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home. The Rev. Art Hardin of Georgetown,
Ky., the former pastor of the Oxford Baptist Church, officiated the service.
Burial followed at the Oxford Cemetery.

Helen M. Maley
Helen M. Maley, 85, of 644 McGuffy Ave., Oxford,
died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1912, in Trenton, Ohio,
to William and Bertha Buchanan Brockman.
Private graveside services will be conducted at
the convenience of the family. The Rev. Malcolm Greene, pastor of the Bath
United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bath
United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice in her memory.

James K. Harris, 85, of Dayton, died Friday, Jan.
16, 1998, in Dayton, Ohio. He was born June 29, 1912, in Darrtown, Ohio,
to James R. and Nella Krebs Harris.

June H. Helton, 53, of Liberty, Ind., and formerly
of Brookville, Ind., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at McCullough Hyde
Memorial Hospital, Oxford, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Feb. 8, 1944, in Laurel, Ind.,
to Clarence and Lenora Pettit Moore.
Funeral services were conducted at the Showalter-Blackwell
Funeral Home, Baker Chapel Saturday, Jan. 24. The Rev. Ruth York Hoskins
of the Living Word Assembly officiated. Burial followed at the Butler County
Memorial Park, Trenton, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Living
Word Assembly Youth Group at the funeral home in her memory.
Alice A. Laven
Alice A. Laven, age 77, of 4531 S. Beechpoint
Drive, Oxford, formerly of Hamilton, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at her
residence. She was born in Falmouth, Ky., on March 22,1920, the daughter
of George D. and Edna (Rankin) Casey and was raised and attended school
in Falmouth.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday,
Jan. 29, at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, 101 W. Church St., Oxford
with burial at Rose Hill Burial Park.
Bernard L. Rowell
Bernard L. Rowell, 72, of 408 W. Water St., Piqua,
died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at the Piqua Memorial Medical Center.
He was born on Oct. 25, 1925, in Sidney, to Frank
and Ethel Snider Rowell. He married Della M. Putnam on Feb. 1, 1944, in
Piqua.
Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 24, at
the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Smith officiated.
Burial followed at Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington.

Raymond F. Schutte, 70, of Reily Twp., died Wednesday,

and Emilie (Lehmann) Schutte.

the Colligan Funeral Home, Hamilton. Mass of Christian Burial was also
held Saturday at St. Mary Church of Oxford.

Clarence R. Ziegler
Clarence R. Ziegler died suddenly in his home
in Oxford, Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1911, near McArthur,
Ohio, and was one of four children born to Grace Graves Ziegler and Francis
Ziegler.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday,
Feb. 8, at the Oxford Presbyterian Church. The Smith & Ogle Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth M. Barnard, 91, formerly of 3207 E. State
44, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at the Hillcrest Estates Nursing Home,
Liberty, Ind. She was born April 18, 1906, in Union County, Ind., to Arthur
G. and Nora John Shepler.
Funeral services were conducted at the Showalter-Blackwell
Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel Wednesday, Jan. 21. Burial followed
at West Point Cemetery, Liberty.

Marlon Byrd Sr., 64, of Somerville, died at his

Mary L. McFall, 89, of Oxford, died Friday, Jan.
16, 1998, at the Oxford View Nursing Home.
She was born in Preble County on Sept. 9, 1908,
the daughter of David M. and Katie E. Miles King.
She attended Eaton High School and graduated in
the class of 1928. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the
Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford. Burial was at the Fairmount Cemetery
in Camden with the Rev. Robert K. Foster officiating.
Denny Nunn
Denny F. Nunn, 64, Oxford, dear brother of Sylvia
Maynard, Larry Nunn and the late Beatrice Hendrickson, Tedd, Calvin and
Herbert Nunn, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998.

Ruth Weber Wheeler
Mrs. Ruth Weber Wheeler, 80, Dewitt, Mich., former
Oxford resident and teacher of reading in various Talawanda District Schools
over a number of years, was fatally injured Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in an
automobile collision at the Lansing intersection of Francis Road and Grand
River Avenue, less than two miles from her home.
She was born Aug. 5, 1917, at Dayton, Ohio, was
a 1939 graduate of Western College and had been on the staff of Hamilton
YMCA until her marriage to Philip T. Wheeler in 1945. She helped him establish
a printing business in Oxford and a magazine called "The Midwest Fisherman."
As involvement in printing and related enterprises took him to new areas,
she taught school and raised three children in Elkton, Md., Wilmington,
Del., Grand Haven, Mich., and DeWitt.
A memorial service may be set for a later date.

J. T. Baker Jr., 51, of 1000 W. 18th St., Connersville,
Ind., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis,

Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel with the Rev. Glen Hawkins of the United
Pentecostal Church, Richmond, officiating. Burial followed at West Point

Lois Oldham Blackburn died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998,
at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, after an illness of several
months. The Grosse Pointe, Mich., resident was 85. Funeral services were
held Saturday at the Grosse Pointe United Church, 240 Chalfonte, Grosse
Pointe Farms, Mich., with cremation to follow.
