Thuron 'Ron' Hammersley
Thuron "Ron" Hammersley, 74, of 25 E. Coe Road,
Liberty, Ind., died at Oak Ridge Nursing Center on Wednesday morning, June
7, following a lengthy illness. He was affectionately known as "Little
Boy" to his family. He was born in Dayton on June 8, 1925. He has lived
in the Liberty area since 1982, after living most of his life in Dayton.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, Hammersley
was a member of the American Legion Post #77 in Brookville, Ind.
Funeral services were conducted at Showalter-Blackwell-Long
Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind., on June 9. Burial followed
in West Point Cemetery, Liberty, Ind. Contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society.

Wilma Marie Seiter
Wilma Marie Seiter, 78, of Brookville, Ind.,
died May 31, at Oxford View Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 27, 1921 in Florence, Ind. She
lived most of her life in Franklin County.
She married Harold Seiter in April 1944. He preceded
her in death, as did her parents.
Funeral services were held June 3 at Phillips
and Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville, Ind., with the Rev. Ben Strasser
officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Oxford Life
Squad.

Robert 'Jerry' Elwinger
Former Oxford resident Robert "Jerry" Elwinger,
66, died at his home in Reno, Nev., on May 13.
A native of Piqua, Ohio, he was born on Feb. 9,
1934, to Leonard and Elizabeth Daly Elwinger. A 1959 graduate of Miami
University, he worked in the studio of Oxford photographer George R. Hoxie
during his college years.
A memorial service in Reno was followed by private
cremation rites.

John Hickman
John K. Hickman, former assistant to the dean
of the Graduate School at Miami University, died at his home in Hendersonville,
N. C., early Friday, June 6. He had suffered from Hodgskin's Disease for
a number of years.
A Miami graduate of 1966 who received his master's
degree in 1968, he served the university from 1968-71.
A memorial service will be held, probably in North
Carolina, later this summer. His sister's address is 8 Margate Lane, Hendersonville,

Harvey A. Requarth, Jr.
Harvey A. Requarth Jr., 81 of Darrtown, died
early Friday morning, June 16. He was born on July 16, 1918 in Dayton.
He graduated from Oakwood High School in Dayton,
and attended Miami University. On Aug. 22, 1942, he married Mary Elizabeth
Harris at the Harris farm on Scott Road in Darrtown. They returned to Scott
Road 55 years later and settled into a home they built there in 1997.
A private graveside service was held n Monday,
June 19, at the Darrtown Cemetery. The Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford,
was in charge of the services. The family is requesting that in lieu of
flowers, contributions be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 4411 Hamilton-Richmond
Rd., Oxford, Ohio 45056 or Habitat for Humanity, Richard Bement, 6381 State

Sallie Cummings
Sallie Cummings, 85, of Somerville, died on Saturday,
June 24, at Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton. Cummings was born on Jan.
23, 1915, in Leslie County, Ky. She married George F. Cummings on Feb.
2, 1946 in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
R.C. Nein & Sons - Thompson Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held on June 27 at the
First Southern Baptist Church. Burial followed at the Butler County Memorial
Park near Trenton.

Esther O'Dell Turner
Esther O'Dell Turner, 72, of Hamilton died Tuesday
morning, June 20, at Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton. She was born Oct.
15, 1927 in Somerville. She attended Marie Schmidt Elementary School in
Collinsville and graduated from Seven Mile High School in 1945.
Most recently she worked at Butler Rural Electric,
beginning in January 1972 and retiring in 1989. While at Butler Rural Electric
she was active in politics, which allowed her to travel extensively.
Funeral services were June 24, at the Smith and
Ogle Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial was at the Somerville Cemetery.

Hesmroilda (Peggy) Hartman
Hesmroilda (Peggy) Hartman died at 8:10p.m. Sunday,
June 25. She was married on Sept. 14, 1944 in Covington, Ky. to Wesley
W. Hartman and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1981.
A memorial service for family and friends was
held Saturday, July 1. Her ashes were placed along side her husband, Wesley,
at the Somerville Cemetery immediately following the service.
R.C. Nein & Sons - Thompson Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations

Michele E. Speh
Michele E. Speh, 41, of Oxford, died June 28,
after a lengthy battle with cancer at McCullough-Hyde Hospital. She was
born on Oct. 10, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was a 1976 graduate of Talawanda High School
and earned her bachelor's degree in speech and hearing from Miami University
in 1996. In 1982, she married Tom Speh, a professor at Miami. In 1984 they
had a daughter, Betsy.
A memorial service was held on July 1, at the
Oxford United Methodist Church.
The family has suggested that memorials be made
to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 370, Dallas,
Texas 75244 or to the Oxford Community Foundation, 52 Park Place East,
Oxford, 45056 in order to purchase a tree in Michele's memory for the new
parks.

Bonifacio Rodriguez
Bonifacio Rodriguez, 51, of 4985 State Route
44 West, Liberty, Ind., died June 28, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Rodriguez was a native of the Philippines.
He was a member of the Brookville United Pentecostal
Church. He had worked for 20 years in Saudi Arabia as an electrician and
as a salesman for an ice cream company.
There was a memorial service July 2 at the Brookville
United Pentecostal Church.
Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick
Chapel, Liberty was in charge of the arrangements.
Contributions may be made to the church in his
memory.

Linda Creager
Linda Creager, 49, of West College Corner, Ind.,
died on Wednesday, June 28, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind. Creager
was born on June 21, 1951 in Hamilton. She married Randy Creager on May
29, 1978 in Hamilton.
Visitation was July 1, at the R.C. Nein &
Sons--Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral services began immediately following
visitation. Burial was at the Fairmount Cemetery in Camden.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer
Society in lieu of flowers.

J. Verling Walrod
J. Verling Walrod, D.O., 97, of Oxford, formerly
of Peru, Ind., died July 2, at the residence of his son.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1902 in Wabash, Ind.
In 1932, Dr. Walrod married Mary Elizabeth Hart
in Tipton, Ind., and she preceded him in death on March 23, 1973. In 1974
he married Josephine Carter, who preceded him in death in 1997.
He was a 1934 graduate of Kirksville School of
Osteopathy and Surgery where Dr. Andrew Taylor Still developed the practice
of osteopathy and founded the school. A memorial service was held on Saturday,
July 8, at the Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel in Peru, Ind. The Smith &
Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford was in charge of the arrangements. |
