Alice I. Dupell
Alice I. Dupell, 79, of Oxford, died at her home
in the early morning, Wednesday, Dec. 29. She was born on Feb. 14, 1920
in Ellenborough, N.Y.
She married Lawrence Dupell in 1939 and he preceded
her in death in 1976.
She worked for many years as a mental health worker
for the state of Massachusetts, retiring in 1980.
A memorial graveside service will be held in Massachusetts
at the convenience of the family. Smith & Ogle Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.

Dan Johnson
Dan Johnson, 58, of Millville, died Tuesday, Dec.
28, at Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton.
He was born March 18, 1941 in Palmer, Ky.
He worked as a painter for Miami University for
almost 30 years, retiring in 1993.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 31, 1999 at Smith
& Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford, with funeral services following. Burial
was in the Venice Cemetery in Ross.

Carey Jacobs
Carey Jacobs, 82, of Oxford, died Thursday afternoon,
Dec. 30, 1999, at Oxford View Nursing Center. He was born July 21, 1917
in Oxford. In 1938, he married Lena I. Huffman in Kentucky and she preceded
him in death in 1997.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World
War II and saw action in the Pacific and in Iwo Jima.
He was a life-long resident of Oxford and owned
and operated the J&K Body Shop for many years.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3, 2000
at Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford. Burial was in the Oxford Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Oxford
Life Squad or the Ohio Cancer Research Associates, 50 W. Broad St., Suite
320, Columbus, Ohio, 43215-3388.

Edith Ellis Green
Edith Ellis Green, 89, died Dec. 22, at the Renaissance
Heath Care Center in Olmsted Township, Ohio. She was the mother of Oxford
resident Suzanne Siegel.
Green was born Nov. 13, 1910 in LaPorte, Ind.
She spent most of her life in the Cleveland area. She was the former director
of news information at Baldwin Wallace College, in Berea, Ohio, from 1969-79.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 8,
at 1 p.m. in the Middleburg Heights Community Church. Arrangements were
handled by the Baker Funeral Home, Berea.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church,

Elijah Bailey
Elijah Bailey, 76, of Hanover Township, died
in Golden Years Health Care, Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at 4:55 p.m.
He was born in Wooten, Kentucky, on March 20,
1923. He was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from
1943 to 1946, serving in the Philippines, New Guinea and Australia.
He was employed as a machinist for Black and Clawson
for 27 years and then at Western States for 15 years, retiring in 1986.
Funeral services were held at the Brown-Dawson
Funeral Home Saturday, Jan. 8. Burial was in Butler County Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Link
Elizabeth Link, 82, of Camden, died Monday, Jan.
3, 2000 at Heartland of Eaton.
Link was born March 29, 1917. She married Frederick
M.E. Link on Oct. 27, 1934 in Hamilton. He preceded her in death
She owned and operated Cherokee Camp Grounds in
Barbau, Michigan for 15 years. She spent the last 23 years of her life
as a "professional Grandma" fully, 'involved in the lives of her grandchildren.
R.C. Nein & Sons - Thompson Funeral Home,
Camden, was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held at the
funeral home. Burial was at the Fairmount Cemetery in Camden.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First
Southern Baptist Church, 35 N. Liberty St., Camden Ohio 45311.

Andrew (Andy) McLaughlin
Andrew (Andy) McLaughlin, 81, of Mason, Ohio,
and longtime resident of Oxford, died Tuesday, evening, Jan. 4, 2000 in
Bethesda North Hospital, Montgomery after a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 12 1918 in Holton, Kansas.
He graduated from Stewart High School in Oxford in 1938.
In 1942, he entered the Army and in December of
1944 was captured and held a Prisoner of War in Germany until April, 1945.
On Dec. 14, 1945, he married Joan Garrett. Also in 1945, he began working
at Capital Varsity Dry Cleaners as a production manager until they stopped
operation in 1972. He then worked for Capital Varsity Sports until his
retirement in 1994.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 8,
2000 at the Smith and Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Mason
Life Squad, the Mason Public Library, or the Oxford Lane Public Library.

Mary Ann (Polly) Aitken
Mary Ann (Polly) Aitken, 88, of Oxford, died
Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital after suffering
a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 9, 1911 in Banff, Scotland.
She graduated from Banff Academy in 1929 and came to the United States
in September 1929.
She married Alex Aitken in Detroit, Mich. on Oct.
20, 1934.
She was a charter member and volunteer at the
Oxford Senior Citizens Center and a volunteer at McCullough-Hyde Hospital
for 14 years.
Memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 15, at
the Oxford Presbyterian Church. Smith & Ogle Funeral Home is in charge
of arrangements.
Contributions may be made to the Oxford Presbyterian
Church Memorial Fund or Oxford Senior Citizens in her memory.

Helen L. Hampton
Helen L. Hampton, 78, of Oxford, died Friday
morning, Jan. 7, 2000 at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital after a brief
illness. She was born April 15, 1921 in Cottage Grove, Ind.
She was a life-long resident of College Corner
and Oxford. On Oct. 13, 1937, she married Everett Hampton, of Clay County,
Ky. She was employed by Miami University and retired after many years of
service.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 11,
2000 at the Oxford Church of God. The Smith & Ogle Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.

Steve C. Rumpler
Steve C. Rumpler, 51, of Hamilton and formerly
of Somerville, died on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at his home. He was born
April 16, 1948 in Hamilton.
He attended Talawanda High School in Oxford. After
high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served for six years.
Shortly after being discharged from the Marines, he began working for the
city of Oxford as an inspector. In 1996, he retired as a city supervisor
after working for 20 years.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 14, 2000,
at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, Oxford.
Burial will be in Somerville Cemetery.

Thelma Butterfield Brown
Thelma Butterfield Brown, 93, of Memphis, Tenn.,
died of heart failure at the Cordova Rehabilitation Center. She was born
in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry O. Butterfield.
The Butterfields moved to Oxford in 1923, where
he built several buildings on the Miami campus and in Oxford.
She attended Miami University, where she met her
husband, Orville Brown. She retired as a sales clerk from the Rike's Store
in Dayton.
Graveside services were held at the David Cemetery
in Dayton.
The family suggests memorials be sent to a charity
of one's choice.

Stella L. Getsie
Stella L. Getsie, 87, of Oxford, formerly of
Monroeville, Penn., died Thursday evening, Jan. 6, 2000 at the Oxford View
Nursing Center. She was born on Aug. 26, 1912 in Braddock, Penn.
On Dec. 31, 1934, she married David W. Getsie
and they moved to Monroeville, Penn. In 1998, they moved to Oxford and
on March 22, 1999, Mr. Getsie preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday morning,
Jan. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Smith & Ogle Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
The family suggests memorial contributions be
made in Getsie's name to one's local Catholic Church.
