Elsie Lee Brock, 86, 701 E. Willow St., Liberty, Ind., died Jan. 27, at Hillcrest Estates Nursing Home. She was born on Oct. 13, 1911, in McMinn County, Tenn., to Thomas E. and Margaret Elliot Williams.

Funeral services were held at Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Friday, Jan. 30, with the Rev. Robert E. Lee, pastor of the Community Gospel Church in Connersville, Ind., officiating.
 

Zelma L. Clevenger

Zelma L. Clevenger, 97, of Morning Sun Road, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at the Oxford View Nursing Center.

She was born on May 17, 1900, in Logan County, Ky., to Carell B. and Mary (Coursey) Flood, and was raised and attended school in Kentucky. She was a cook in several Oxford restaurants, Miami University and Kramer School. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan 28, at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home. The Rev. Art Hardin of Georgetown, Ky., the former pastor of the Oxford Baptist Church, officiated the service. Burial followed at the Oxford Cemetery.

Beatrice C. Gunderson

Beatrice C. Gunderson, 89, formerly of Winter Haven, Fla., died on Jan. 28, at Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton, her residence since 1994. She was born in Fon du Lac, Wis., on April 4, 1908, the daughter of Lucius A. and Beatrice T. Chase. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1929 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

A Memorial Service will be held in Winter Haven, Fla., on Saturday. Memorial gifts may be made to the Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church, Winter Haven, Fla., or to the Westover Foundation, 1501 Millville Ave., Hamilton, Ohio 45013-4163.
 

Edward Morris Holman

Edward Morris Holman, 88, 4078 Abbott Road, Brookville, Ind., died Jan. 30, at Oxford View Nursing Center.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1909 in Ripley County, Ind. He married Edna Willoughby on March 20, 1984.

He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and farmed most of his life. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, Brookville, with the Rev. Wade Urban officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville.

Military graveside services were conducted by the Bernard Hurst Post 77 of the American Legion.

Mabel C. Kramer

Mabel C. Kramer, 102, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, where she had lived since 1994.

She was born on a farm near Wayne, Ohio, on May 25, 1895, the daughter of Philip and Jessie E. (Thomas) Battrick. She was a 1913 graduate of Wayne Central School and received a bachelor's degree from Ohio University in 1920.

She met Howard Kramer in 1916 at Collinsville School where they were both teachers and they married in Wayne on August 25, 1920. They then moved to Oxford, where they lived their entire married life. Howard Kramer was a teacher and superintendent of the Oxford Public Schools and the man for whom Kramer School is named.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Oxford Presbyterian Church with burial in the Darrtown Cemetery. Smith & Ogle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Kramer Elementary School, 400 West Sycamore St., Oxford, or the Oxford Presbyterian Church, 101 North Main St., Oxford.
 

Gilson Wright

Gilson Prescott Wright, 92, died on Saturday at Oxford View Nursing Center, where he had been a resident for three years.

He was born August, 25, 1905 in Paulding, Ohio to Prescott Parker and Emma Patterson Wright, both of whom were born in log cabins and were descendants of early Ohio pioneers. He moved at an early age to Lima, Ohio, where he was reared. He graduated from Lima South High School.

Self-sufficient at an early age, he began his newspaper career by selling the Lima News on the street corners.

He graduated in 1930 from Ohio Wesleyan, in Delaware, Ohio, where he met his future wife, Amy Benton. They were married June 21, 1931. He was director of the news bureau at Ohio Wesleyan for a number of years before the family moved to Oxford in 1940.

He served as Miami University's sports publicity director and soon became director of the Miami University news bureau, journalism instructor and adviser to the campus paper. For many years, he was also a well-known wedding photographer in the area.

During that time, he was also correspondent for Oxford news for several area newspapers.

He and his wife traveled extensively.

In his college years, during the summer, he was an "advance man" for the Redpath Chatauqua, a traveling company of entertainers, famous orators and acrobatic teams - all performing under a tent. He was once offered the job as "advance man" for Clarence Darrow.

Wright was proud to have seen Halley's Comet twice in his lifetime.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with and he was buried next to his wife in the Miami Section of the Oxford Cemetery. Smith & Ogle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 

Diane Theresa Kirkpatrick

Diane Theresa (Cope) Kirkpatrick, 35, of Camden, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

She was born Feb. 21 1962, in San Bernidino, Calif., the daughter of Mickey and Marilyn Cope. She graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in 1980.Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 7. Burial followed at Fairmont Cemetery in Camden.

Clinton Lee Osborne

Clinton Lee Osborne, 64, 4 N. West St., Liberty, Ind., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at his home. He was born on April 9, 1933, in White County, Ind., to Oliver Samuel and Sarah Ellen Nosler Osborne.

He had lived in Union County for about 50 years.

Funeral services were held Monday, at the Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind., with cremation following. Private graveside services were held.
 
 

Henry Seal

Henry Seal, 88, 262 Main Street, Brookville, Ind., died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at his residence. He was born on June 14, 1909, in Chester County, Pa., to Alva Henry and Mary Kilpatrick (Meyers) Seal.

He married Lena Marie Proctor on March 24, 1979. 

He had lived in Franklin County since 1990. He moved from Pennsylvania, where he was a farmer, a retired builder, and had retired from Sun Oil Co. after 17 years of employment.Memorial services were held at Phillips and Meyers Funeral Home, in Brookville, Ind., Feb. 8., with the Rev. Ruth Hoskins officiating.

Reva Imogene Stapleton

Reva Imogene Stapleton, 64, of Camden died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at McCullough-Hyde Hospital in Oxford.

She was born on Aug. 8, 1933, in Middletown, the daughter of Ernest and Margaret Henry. She married William R. Stapleton on March 27, 1950, in Richmond, Ind. She was a member of the Somerville Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 9, at R.C. Nein and Sons - Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Riler Parker officiating. Burial was in Hickory Flats Cemetery in Overpeck, Ohio.
 

Dale Richard Wilhelm

Dale Richard Wilhelm, 74, of Port Orange, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at his home after an eight-month terminal illness.

He was born in Brookville, Ind., and came to Daytona Beach, Fla., 42 years ago from Oxford. He was a Navy veteran in the submarines in WWII. 

Volusia County Creamation Society is in charge of the arrangements. A mass was held on Feb. 3 with the Rev. Paul Kamide of Epiphany Church officiating.

Marie L. Chappars, 86, formerly of Oxford, died Friday at the home of her daughter in Brandywine, Md. She was born in Lawrenceburg, Ind.
 
 

Reba M. Curry

Reba M. (Thomas) Curry, 73, of 2584 E. CR 200 N. Liberty, Ind., died Feb. 18 at Fayette Memorial Hospital, in Connersville, Ind. She was born in Richmond, Ind. on May 15, 1924 to Harry C. and Zella Marie Snyder Marie Snyder Thomas.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Greenwood United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Sims Cemetery in Franklin County, Ind. Contributions may be made to the Greenwood United Methodist Church.
 

Kathleen "Kashie" Hartley

Kathleen "Kashie" Hartley, 74, of 208 Line St., Liberty, Ind., died Feb. 10, 1998, in the emergency room at McCullough-Hyde Hospital. She was born on April 15, 1923, in W. College Corner, Ind., to Marion and Clara Lemon Shepard.

Funeral services were held at the Oxford Church of the Nazarene, Oxford, Feb. 13 with the Rev. Doug Shope officiating.

Burial was at the College Corner Cemetery, W. College Corner, Ind. The family wishes memorial contributions be made to the Oxford Church of the Nazarene.
 

Ralph E. Headley

Dr. Ralph E. Headley, 81, of Oxford, died at his home Feb. 18, 1998. He moved to Oxford and began his veterinary practice in 1941, retiring after 47 years in 1988.

Funeral services were held Saturday, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, with burial in the College Corner Cemetery. Smith & Ogle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

David Kirkpatrick

David Kirkpatrick, 36, of Camden, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, in Eaton. He was born Oct. 11, 1961, in Dayton, the son of the late James Kirkpatrick and Evelyn (Morris) Kirkpatrick Kearby.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at the R.C. Nein & Sons-Limber Funeral Home/Willard Moss Jr. Memorial Chapel, 249 N. Main St., Camden, with the Rev. Greg Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Camden.

Mrs. Lucille Lesher, 92, a 27-year resident Oxford, died, Thursday, Feb. 23, 1998.

Visitation was held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Keller Funeral Home, Fremont, Ohio. Services will follow visitation. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church and the Oxford Senior Citizens Center.

The Rev. Issac Phillips, 93, former resident of College Corner died at the Extenda Care Nursing Center at New Castle, Ind., on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998. Funeral services were held at Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner. Rev. Ronnie Burgess officiating. Burial followed at College Corner Cemetery.
