Beatrice Tompkins: former Montrose resident

Beatrice M. Tompkins, a former Montrose resident, died May 10 at Bethel Nursing Home in Croton.

She was 91.

She was born March 2, 1911 to William and Alice (Kear) Tice in Montrose.

She married Seymour P. Tompkins at the South Street Methodist Church in Peekskill.

Mrs. Tompkins was a member of Trinity Boscobel Church in Buchanan, the Cortlandt Senior Citizens and a past member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Peekskill Yacht Club.

She was an avid reader, and will be remembered for her love of gardening, and the New York Yankees.

She is survived by one son, Donald (June) Tompkins of Montrose; four granchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband and one brother, William Tice Jr., predeceased her.

Funeral arrangements and services were handled by the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose.

Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery.

Claudia Smart: Croton resident

Claudia Smart, a resident of Croton, died May 10 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow.

She was 80.

She was born March 3, 1922 to Roy P. and Laura (Fry) Rordam in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She was married to J. Samuel Smart and was a homemaker in Croton.

She was a member and past president for the Croton Library Board and was a Chairperson on the Conservation Advisory Council.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, J. Samuel Smart.

Three brothers, Ronald, Edmund, and Bert Rordam, predeceased her.

Ivry Fullenweider: 70-year resident of Peekskill

Ivry L. Fullenweider, a 70-year resident of Peekskill, died May 8 in South Carolina.

She was born May 6, 1912 in Eastover, South Carolina to Charlie and Holly McBeth Simons.

She graduated from B.T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina.

She worked as a nurses aide at FDR VA Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of the Park St. AME Zion Church in Peekskill and served on the usher board for over 25 years and was a past President, and a Sunday School Teacher.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by her sons, Robert D. Fullenweider of Ocala, Florida and Charles E. Fullenweider of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, Charles Simons of Eastover, South Carolina and Rudolph Simons of Peekskill; two sisters, Emma Wright and Clotel Beale of Eastover; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband Edwin, who died January 28, 1962.

Funeral arrangements were handled by E.O. Curry Funeral Home. Services were held at AME Zion Church, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery.

James Davis: Ossining resident

James Davis, a resident of Ossining, died May 11.

He was 81.

He was born November 10, 1920 in Eutawville South Carolina to Henry and Sarah Green Davis.

Mr. Davis was a veteran of WW II in the U.S. Army and was retired from Fort Hill Village Estates in Scarsdale, where he worked for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy; one son, James C. Jr.; two daughters, Shirley Comas and Essie (Sheldon) Bryant; and three grandsons, Kerey Comas, Devon and Dylan Bryant.

Funeral arrangements and services were handled by Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining. Interment followed at a local cemetery.

Marion McGuire: Peekskill resident

Marion E. McGuire, a resident of Peekskill, died May 11 at Hudson Valley Hospital.

She was 74.

She married Frank McGuire on June 22, 1952 at St. Benedicts Church in Bronx.

She is survived by one son, Tom of Poughkeepsie; one daughter, Colleen Simmons of Peekskill; one sister, Florence of Hyde Park; and seven grandchildren.

Her husband died in 2000.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

Angelina Pandoli: Ossining resident

Angelina Pandoli, a resident of Ossining, died May 11 at Phelps Hospital.

She was 96.

She was born October 5, 1905 in Bari, Italy to Frank and Mary Juliano Pace.

She was a resident of Ossining since 1912 when she moved from Italy.

She married Nunzio Lobasso in 1922. After his death, she married Caesare Pandoli in 1946, who died in 1977.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Church and St. Ann’s Sodality. She was also a member of Columbus Lodge, Ossining Senior Citizens, Golden Agers Group #1, American Legion, Ossining Moose, and Tarrytown VFW – Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Pandoli was a Foster Grandparent for 14 years at the Ossining Children’s Center, a Bingo Volunteer at St. Ann’s School for more than 50 years, a volunteer at FDR Veterans Hospital in the early 1960’s and liked to play Bocci Ball with the Golden Agers.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Lobasso; three daughters, Mary McCarthy, Philomena Sanzo and Nancy Nielson; two sisters, Antionette Palomba and Lucy DeSilva; nine granchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her son, Caesare "Butch" Pandoli, her daughter, Grace DiRocco, her brothers, Nicholas and Dominick Pace and her sisters, Dora Cossu and Mary DiBernardinis, predeceased her.

Funeral arrangements and services were handled by Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining. Interment followed at St. Augustine Cemetery.

Betty Sajewicz: Somers resident

Betty B. Sajewicz, a resident of Somers, died May 11.

She was 83.

She was born September 14, 1918 in Chicopee, MA to Helen Komor and Anthony Lis.

On January 1, 1949, she married Anthony in Brooklyn.

She was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church. She lived in West Harrison for 17 years before moving to Somers. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Edward Sajewicz of West Harrison; one daughter, Elizabeth Wasp of North Salem; one brother, Joseph Lis of Manhasset, Long Island; two sisters, Stella Sokolowski of Springfield, MA and Jane Klysh of Queens; four grandchildren, Edward and Anthony Sajewicz and Robert and Zachary Wasp; and one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Sajewicz.

She was predeceased by one sister, Josephine Burdzy.

Funeral arrangements were handled at McMahon, Lyon & Harnett Funeral Home in White Plains. A funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

George James: Verplanck resident

George Franklin James, a resident of Verplanck, died May 9 at Bethel Nursing Home in Croton-on-Hudson.

He was 93.

He was born November 18, 1908 in Cortlandt to Herbert and Lida L. Reynolds James.

Mr. James served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. During WWII and for several years after the war, he worked at Iona Island Depot.

In November 1933, he married Florence Grace Zeiget, who died on January 8, 1998.

Mr. James worked for the Laborers Union Local 460 for 35 years, retiring in 1970. He was a man who made hard work look easy. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed his vegetable garden.

Mr. James is survived by his son, George F. James of Verplanck; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services were held at E.O. Curry Funeral Home, followed by interment at Hillside Cemetery.

Antoinette Lovergine: former Yorktown resident

Antoinette Lovergine, a former Yorktown resident, died May 8 at her home in Manahawkin.

She was 79.

She was born in Manhattan. She was a member of the BPOE Ladies Auxiliary in Yorktown Heights Lodge and a communicant of St. Mary’s RC Church in Barnegat.

Mrs. Lovergine is survived by her husband of 52 years, Pat; one son, John and his wife Ann of Yorktown; and three grandchildren, Gina, Angela and Dominic.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s RC Church in Barnegat. Interment followed at BGWCD Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown.

Agnes Mae Conklin: Peekskill resident

Agnes Mae Conklin, a resident of Peekskill, died May 17 at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

She was 81.

She was born November 2, 1920 to Harold and Violetta Spock Travis.

Mrs. Conklin worked as a teacher’s aide for the Yorktown Central School District from 1976 to 1985.

On December 18, 1938, she married George R. Conklin in Peekskill.

In addition to her husband of Peekskill, Mrs. Conklin is survived by two sons, George F. Conklin of Amsterdam, NY and John Conklin of Brewster; four daughters, Agnes Turner of Wappingers Falls, Lillian Rose of Peekskill, Myrtle Meissner of Brewster, and Deborah Storms of Peekskill; two brothers, Harold Travis of Peekskill and George Travis of Wappingers Falls; two sisters, Lorraine Turner of Croton-on-Hudson and Joan Burrows of Amarillo, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 51 great- grandchildren; and one great- great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by two brothers, William and Frank Travis, two sisters, Martha Kingsley and Edna Travis, and four grandchildren.

Antoinette Manicchio: Ossining resident

Antoinette Manicchio, a resident of Ossining, died May 16.

She was 64.

She was born January 6, 1938 in Sassinoro Italy.

She was the daughter of Gesuele and Vincenza Sallucci Picucci.

She is survived by her husband, John; five daughters, Carmela Picciano, Anna Oakley, Arlene Silano, Lucia Tatavitto and Joanne Tatavitto; two sons, Arturo Tatavitto and John Manicchio Jr.; one sister, Carmela Palombo; two brothers, Frank and Steve Picucci; seven grandchildren; and one great- grandson.

One son, Antonio, died earlier.

Elizabeth Ward: former area resident

Elizabeth A. Ward, a former resident of Peekskill and Cortlandt, died May 2 at her residence in Spring Hill, Florida.

She was 78.

She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and was a parishioner at St. Columbanus Catholic Church.

She was a legal secretary for Albano & Roskin law firm and retired from IBM in Yorktown Heights.

She moved to Florida in 1994 and was an active member of Myerlee Ladies Golf Club in Ft. Myers. She’ll be remembered for her remarkable wit, compassion toward others and for the time and attention she freely devoted to family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John of Spring Hill, Florida; two sons, John J. Jr. and his wife Carol of Springfield, Virginia; Michael J. and his wife Theresa of Gaithersburg, Maryland; two daughters, Ann and her husband John Fowler of Newtown, Pennsylvania, Patricia and her husband Martin Vespo of Cortlandt; one sister, Theresa and her husband Joseph Demers of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; and eight grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Alisha, Thomas, Matthew, Carolyn, Jacqueline and Martin.

Funeral services were held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Florida.

Geraldine Humphrey: Cortlandt resident

Geraldine Ellen Humphrey, a resident of Cortlandt, died May 18 at Field Home–Holy Comforter in Yorktown.

She was 71.

She was born October 16, 1930 in Jackson Heights to James Emmett and Juliette Bustonaby Murray.

She graduated from the High School of Commerce in Yonkers in 1948.

On April 14, 1951, she married Edward J. Humphrey at St. Joseph’s Church in Yonkers.

Mrs. Humphrey was a member of St. Columbanus Church.

She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Humphrey; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Nicholas L. Rella; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy J. and Mary Ellen Humphrey; and three granddaughters, Lauren and Jillian Rella and Meghan Humphrey, all of Cortlandt.

She is predeceased by two brothers, James and Richard Murray.

Ralph F. DeThomas Jr.: Peekskill resident

Ralph F. DeThomas Jr. died on May 20 at his home in Peekskill.

He was 48.

He was born October 4, 1953 to Ralph and Antoinette (Rutigliano) DeThomas in the Bronx.

He most recently worked as an electrician for Peterbuilt Electric Inc. in Yorktown Heights.

He will be remembered for his unique personality, his kind heart and a great love of animals.

Mr. DeThomas is survived by his parents of Yorktown Heights; two brothers, Patrick (Loryn) DeThomas of Gold Canyon, Arizona and Chris (Lucia) DeThomas of Newtown, CT; and five sisters, Frances (Robert) Colantuono of Wharton, NJ, Toni DeThomas of Mohegan Lake, Constance Mastro-Pontorno of Yorktown Heights, Bernadette (Michael) Mangione of Pleasant Valley and ChrisAnn (Peter) Simone of Pleasant Valley.

He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, Eleanor DeThomas, Robert Colantuono, Antoinette and Dominick Moreno, Andrew Burger, Nicholas Mastro, Marina and Justin DeThomas, Marianna and Natalia Mangione, and Francesca, Lucianna and Nico Simone.

Regina Rodriguez: Cortlandt resident

Regina F. Rodriguez, a resident of Cortlandt, died May 14 at Westchester Medical Center.

She was 57.

She was a homemaker.

She was born August 31, 1944 in Germany to Friedrich and Ilse Tittel.

On July 1, 1967, she married Eduardo Rodriguez in Whitestone, N.Y.

Mrs. Rodriguez was a long-time volunteer for Westchester Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband, Eduardo of Cortlandt; her father, Friedrich Tittel of Cortlandt; two sons, Michael of Cranford, New Jersey, and Alex, of Cortlandt; and one sister, Susan Mons of Annapolis, Maryland.

Virginia Parsons: Ossining resident

Virginia M. Parsons died May 12 at her son’s home in Glenville, N.Y.

She was 88.

She worked as an administrator for Maryknoll Missionaries in Maryknoll, NY for 20 years before retiring in 1984.

She was born August 30, 1913 in New York City to James and Mary Jane Minogue Meara. She was educated in New York City and graduated from St. Louis Academy in 1931.

On August 10, 1940, she married John Parsons at St. Ann’s Church in Ossining.

She will be remembered for her love of her children, her wit, strength, and integrity, as well as her love of music, dancing, travel and books.

She is survived by two sons, John of Glenville and William of Cortlandt; two daughters, Mary Jane Davis of Peekskill and Virginia Carver of Madison, CT; and three grandchildren.

Family members who predeceased her include her husband John in 1969, brother Roger in 1982 and brother William in 2000.

William Scheuber: Montrose resident

William F. Scheuber, a resident of Montrose, died May 14 at Hudson Valley Hospital.

He was 81.

He was born November 3, 1920 to William and Lena Kreisweiser Scheuber.

He was a retired plumber for Carl Scheuber, Inc.

He also worked at Algonquin Gas Company and the Montrose Water Improvement District.

Mr. Scheuber served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Helen J. Humble in Forest Hills, NY on January 27, 1945.

He is survived by wife, Helen; one son, Gerard of Tyler, Texas; two daughters, Nancy Jackson, of Montrose, and Jo Anne Posca, of Port Hueneme, California; one brother, Donald of Buchanan; seven grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Orlando and Elsie Scheuber.
