Albert Wyrenbeck: Somers resident

Albert S. Wyrenbeck died January 23 at his home in Somers. He was 56. He was born March 29, 1945 to Albert and Erica Knapp Wyrenbeck in Somers. He attended schools in Somers and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Brigham Young College in Utah in 1967. On November 20, 1967, he married Karen in Brewster. He lived in Somers all his life.

Mr. Wyrenbeck is survived by his wife of Somers; two daughters, Debra Williams of Cortlandt and Jennifer Surette of Fishkill; and stepson Rodney Martin of Putnam Valley.

Funeral arrangements were handled at the Clark Funeral Home, Inc. in Yorktown. A funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Church in Yorktown, followed by burial at Amawalk Cemetery.

Catherine Hutchinson: Peekskill resident

Catherine “Kay” L. Hutchinson, a resident of Peekskill, died January 23 at the Rosary Hill Home. She was 90. She was born May 9, 1911 in New York City to William H. and Margaret Creeley Bates. On November 19, 1937, she married George H. Hutchinson at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Peekskill. He died September 28, 1986. Mrs. Hutchinson was a sales associate for Kittingers in Peekskill for more than 10 years and was an air raid warden in 1944.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Alter Guild and a board member of the Interfaith Housing Council which was responsible for building Stuhr Gardens and the Barham House. She was also an auxiliary member of the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for 23 years and a member of the Democratic City Committee.

Mrs. Hutchinson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Walter Wedler of Croton-On-Hudson; son and daughter-in-law, George Calvin and Marlene Hutchinson of Laguna Niguel, California; four grandchildren, Brooke, Kelsey, Kyle and Kaylyn Hutchinson; two nieces; and four nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Esquerre and Frances E. Francis, three brothers, Charles, Robert and Alfred Bates, and one niece.

Funeral arrangements and services were handled at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. Interment was held at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam, 100 S. Bedford Rd. Ste. 340, Mt. Kisco, NY 10549 or to the Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.

Elly Levey: Yorktown resident

Elly M. Levey, a resident of Yorktown, died January 22 at Somers Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by one daughter Ursula McNeil; two grandchildren, Andrea McNeil and Charlie Dickenson; grandson-in-law David; and two great-grandsons, Ian and Adam.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Westchester Medical Center Foundation-Burn Unit.

Francis J. Demaro: Croton resident

Francis J. Demaro, a long time Croton resident, died January 27 at Phelps Memorial Hospital. He was 80. He was born February 4, 1921 in the Bronx. On June 9, 1945, he married Rita Morandi in the Bronx following his service in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Demaro was a retired Fiscal Auditor for the United States Government, retiring from the FDR Hospital in 1984 after 36 years of service.

He was a member of the Croton Fire Patrol, and was the Past President of both the Croton and the Cortlandt Sr. Citizens Clubs. He was also a parishioner and former Usher and Lector at Holy Name of Mary Church, where he was also a member and former Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Dennis (Mary) Demaro of Holmes, NY, and his grandchildren, Gregory and Brandon Call and Dana and Christopher Demaro. He was predeceased by one daughter, Mary Ann Call, and one brother, Peter Demaro.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Croton. A funeral Mass was held at Holy Name of Mary Church. Burial was held at Bethel Cemetery.

Gene Stafford: Somers resident

Gene S. Stafford died January 21 at Somers Manor Nursing Home. He was 91. He was born July 27, 1910 in the Bronx to Nicholas and Alvine (Katzke) Schwartz. He was an electrical engineer for the United States Navy in Brooklyn during World War II and did electrical wiring for many aircraft carriers and other naval vessels. He also worked for the Otis Elevator Company.

He is survived by his special friend, Norma Santangelo of Somers. His wife Flora died in 1987.

Funeral arrangements and services were handled by the Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. Interment was held at Ivandell Cemetery in Somers.

Kathleen Rohs: Peekskill resident

Kathleen M. Rohs died January 2 after a long illness. She was 53. She was born June 28, 1948 in Yonkers to Dennis Russell and Loretta Cato. She graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in 1966 and was a resident of Holy Comforter Nursing Facility.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Rohs of Poughkeepsie; two daughters, Jennifer Rohs of Mohegan Lake and Julie Moran of Peekskill; two brothers, Thomas Russell and Michael Russell, both of Peekskill; one granddaughter, Briana; and one grandson, Kyle Jr. She was predeceased by her brother, Brian Russell, who died during the Viet Nam War.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Nardone Funeral Home and a funeral Mass was held at Assumption Church in Peekskill.

Mary Agnes DeRocco: Ossining resident

Mary Agnes DeRocco, a resident of Ossining, died January 23 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. She was 96. She was born June 18, 1905 in Cold Spring to Guisseppe and Angela DiPailo Palumbo. She was a former seamstress at the Stewart Manufacturing Company in Ossining. She was also a former communicant at St. Ann’s Church.

She is survived by her son Samuel J. Jr.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Her husband, Samuel Sr., died December 28, 1976.

Funeral arrangements were handled at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Inc. in Ossining. A funeral Mass was held at St. Ann’s Church, followed by burial at St. Augustine’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Ferncliff Nursing Home, 21 Ferncliff Drive, Rhinebeck, NY 12572-1900.

Maureen Ann Tate: former Ossining resident

Maureen Ann Tate, a former Ossining resident, died January 23. She was 47. A native of Binghamton, she attended St. Ann’s School, Mary Immaculate in Croton on the Hudson and graduated from Ossining High School. She also graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso and attended Columbus State Community College. She was a Contract Negotiator for D.S.C.C. in Columbus, Ohio.

She is survived by her daughter, Tarta Tate Charles; one sister, Susan (Lee) Tate-Hutt; and two brothers, Donald (Donna) Gibson and Robert Brian Tate.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel in Grahanna, Ohio. Interment was private. Contributions may be made to ASPCA, 424 East 92nd St., 4th floor, NY 10128 or the American Cancer Society, 900 Michigan Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43215 in her memory.

Olive Calgie: former Putnam Valley resident

Olive E. Calgie, a former Putnam Valley resident, died January 23 at her residence in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. She was 84. She was born March 14, 1917 in Rochester. She lived in Putnam Valley for 20 years and in Fair Lawn, New Jersey for the past three years.

She was an office manager for Abarno Camp Insurance in Flushing for 15 years before retiring in 1980. She was a member of Mawpac Bowling League in Putnam Valley.

Mrs. Calgie is survived by two daughters, Diane Laing and Carol Willis; five grandchildren, Billy, Eve, Chris, Erin and Denise; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband, Christopher Calgie, died earlier.

Funeral arrangements and services were handled by the Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Inc. in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Interment followed at Cemetery of the Assumption in Peekskill. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Raymond Pavone: Verplanck resident

Raymond O. Pavone, a resident of Verplanck, died January 23 at Hudson Valley Hospital. He was 69. He was born February 4, 1932 in New Castle to Gaetano and Virginia Transquilla Pavone. He was married to Bernice Sullivan Pavone for 47 years. Mr. Pavone was a maintenance mechanic for Georgia Pacific in Buchanan before retiring in 1996.

Mr. Pavone is survived by his wife; three daughters, Kim (Albert) Pavone of Buchanan, Kelly (Harold) Pavone of Peekskill and Karen (Jamie) Pavone of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers, Edward of Croton, Alphonse of Ossining and Albert of Newburgh; three sisters, Elizabeth Davis of Peekskill, Marge Biushey of Croton and Laura DaLaura of Somers; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Rudy Pavone, and one sister, Elodia Amodei.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose. A funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Church.

Rita Stinton: Verplanck resident

Rita E. Stinton, a Verplanck resident, died January 26 at Hudson Valley Hospital. She was 86. She was born May 15, 1915 in New York City to Edward and Elizabeth Bauman Fulgum. On October 13, 1934, she married Joseph A. Stinton. He died in 1980.

She was a retired clerk at Graymoor Press in Garrison. She was also a member of the Verplanck Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Verplanck and Cortlandt Sr. Citizens Clubs.

Mrs. Stinton is survived by two sons, Joseph of Verplanck and John of Amaheim, California; one daughter, Carol Keesler of Verplanck; one sister, Ruth Barone of Bound Brook, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by three brothers, Frederick, Harold and Jack Fulgum, and two sisters, Edna Tuttle and Evelyn Martinez.

Funeral arrangements were handled at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose. A funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick’s Church, interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
