Larry M. Sourdiffe
CAMBRIDGE — Larry M. Sourdiffe, 52, of Turnpike Road, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Glens Falls Hospital following a short illness.
Born May 3, 1948, Larry was the son of Joseph and Janith Sourdiffe. 
After graduating from Mt. Anthony High School in Bennington, Vt., he joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1969-1971, and was stationed in Germany for most of that time.
Larry went to work for the New York State Department of Transportation after fulfilling his military obligation and retired in March of this year.
In 1990, Larry and his wife Gail purchased The Country Courier, a light trucking firm.
Larry’s enjoyments of outside activities included golf and deer hunting. He was a life member of American Legion Capt. Maxon Post No. 634 as well as a charter member of the "Country Cookers."
Besides his wife of 30 years, Gail (Macauley) Sourdiffe, Larry is survived by a son, Larry Sourdiffe of Cambridge; a daughter, Lori Ann Sourdiffe of Cambridge; his parents, Joseph and Janith Sourdiffe of Bennington, Vt.; two sisters and three brothers, Gloria Bahan of Poultney, Vt., Susan Greene of Bennington, Vt., Stanley Bourn of Rutland, Vt., John C. Sourdiffe of Hanson, Mass., and Peter Sourdiffe of Bennington, Vt. Larry also leaves behind a faithful canine companion, Major.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 14, at Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Boyd Heldring officiating. A reception will follow at the Emma Holden Room.
There will be an interment service at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.

Mrs. Annie F. Alkes
ONEONTA — Mrs. Annie F. Alkes, 86, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her residence.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1913, in New York, the daughter of Herman and Jennie (Muller) Feigenbaum.
Annie married Ben Alkes on March 27, 1938, in Glens Falls. He died April 21, 1993.
In 1960, the Alkes family founded Ben Alkes Sewing Machines and Vacuum Sales and Service, of which Mrs. Alkes was co-owner.
Born and educated in Glens Falls, Mrs. Alkes moved with her family to Oneonta in 1948 from South Glens Falls.
She was a member of Temple Beth El, Oneonta.
Mrs. Alkes and her late husband had been active square dancers belonging to the Covered Bridge Square Dance Club of Unadilla. They were members of the original square dance group, Buttons and Bows, in Oneonta and were also ballroom dancers at one time.
In her earlier years, she was a former president of the Oneonta Plains School PTA, a Brownie Scout leader and Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by one daughter, Lana Judith Alkes of Oneonta; one sister, Cele Abrams of Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Feigenbaum and Margaret Feigenbaum, both of Glens Falls; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, I.A. and Roslin Alkes of Glens Falls, and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at noon Friday, May 12, 2000 at Temple Beth El, Chestnut Street, Oneonta, Rabbi Donald Roberts will officiate.
Burial will follow at Temple Beth El Cemetery, Emmons.
There will be no calling hours.
The family requests no flowers be sent,; however, contributions may be made to the Temple Beth El Building Fund or Catskill Area Hospice in memory of Annie F. Alkes.
Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Edwin 'Ed' Gurnard McEachron
GANSEVOORT -- Edwin "Ed" Gurnard McEachron, 76, a longtime Gansevoort resident, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, after a long illness.
Born Dec. 18, 1923, in Greenwich, he was the son of the late Oatman and Minnie (Burges) McEachron.
He served with the United States Army during World War II and earned five Bronze Service Stars for the campaigns he was involved in. Ed was a very patriotic American.
He married Alice Barber of Greenwich.
Ed worked most of his life for the Scott Paper Co., formerly in Fort Edward.
He enjoyed movies and war paraphernalia. Most of all, he loved his family and the time he spent with them.
Survivors in addition to his wife of many years, Alice McEachron of Gansevoort, include four daughters, Linda Taylor and her husband, Melvin, of Tucson, Ariz., Tina Boldt and her husband, Peter, of Saratoga Lake, Pamela Webb and her husband, George, of Gansevoort and Patricia Carr and her husband, Rodney, of Gansevoort; three sons, Timothy McEachron of Quaker Springs, Theodore McEachron and his wife, Linda, of Gansevoort and Daniel McEachron of South Glens Falls; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services are private.
Burial, with military honors, will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater, on June 26, 2000, at 3 p.m.
The family suggests memorial donations in Ed's memory be sent to Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard Association, Empire State Plaza, P.O. 2003, Albany, NY 12220 or Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Upper Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Barbara Straight
FORT EDWARD --Barbara Straight, 62, of Grey Fox Drive, went into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.
Born on June 28, 1937, in Schuylerville, she was the daughter of the late John and Wilna (Ward) Straight.
Barbara went to Warrensburg Holy Cross and Warrensburg Central Schools. She graduated from Child Technical School in Albany and also the Pittsfield, Mass., Vocational Nursing School. Barbara worked at the Hallmark Nursing Center in Glens Falls, Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle and was a Washington County Public Health nurse. She retired from nursing in June 1999.
She belonged to the Warrensburg Central School Alumni Association, the Rebekah Lodge No. 57, the National Society of New England Women Glens Falls Colony No. 25, where she was third vice president, Civil Service Employees Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and New York State Local Retirement Association.
Barbara was very involved with many organizations and loved being around people. She had many, many friends and loved everyone. She was always there for anyone who needed her. Barbara loved her crafts, needlework and traveling.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Betty E. Baker.
Survivors include two nephews, Kevin Baker and his wife, Vilna, of Chino, Calif., and John Baker and his wife, Rebecca, of Woodstock, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Clark Baker of Queensbury; two aunts, Margaret Fitch of Schuylerville and Lillian Schnopp of Dalton, Mass.; and several cousins.
During her illness, Barbara stayed with her friends Dawn and Bill Doetch of Fort Edward and Joyce and Fran Bacon, also of Fort Edward.
There are no calling hours scheduled.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Zion Episcopal Church in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Wayne Bowers, rector, officiating.
Family and friends are invited to a gathering at the Parish House of the Zion Episcopal Church, following the mass.
Burial will be at a later date in Warrensburg Cemetery in the town of Warrensburg.

Alice Mae (Bulson) Calhoun
SARATOGA -- Alice Mae (Bulson) Calhoun, 81, a long time resident of Boyntonville, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga following a long illness.
Born in Troy, Mrs. Calhoun was the daughter of the late Leonard E. and Ada Mae (Hayner) Bulson, and the wife of more than 45 years of the late Harold N. Calhoun, who died Oct. 13, 1985. Mr. & Mrs Calhoun were married June 9, 1940.
Mrs. Calhoun was a graduate of Troy High School and attended Albany Business College.
For more than 30 years she was employed by the former Marine Midland Bank as an administrative assistant, working at branch offices located in Troy and Albany. Mrs. Calhoun retired in October 1981.
For many years Mrs. Calhoun made her home in Boyntonville. In 1974, she relocated to Watervliet,, residing there until becoming a resident of the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga in October 1997.
She was a member of the Watervliet United Methodist Church, the Palestine Star Chapter No. 167, Order of the Eastern Star, the Appolo Court No. 5, Order of the Amaranth Inc., the Watervliet Home Bureau and was honored for more than 60 years of service as a member of the Brunswick Grange. Mrs. Calhoun was a former member of the Boyntonville United Methodist Church and Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps.
In addition to her late husband, Mrs. Calhoun was predeceased by two brothers, Ira and Homer Bulson; and a sister Lorna Eddy.
Mrs. Calhoun is survived by a daughter, Carolyn B. Burton of Winter Haven, Fla.; three sons, Emory H. Calhoun of Hartford, Clifford R. Calhoun of Raymertown and Edwin J. Calhoun of Clifton Park; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and her many friends and caregivers at the Wesley Health Care Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the Jonesville United Methodist Church, 963 Main St., in Jonesville, with the Rev. David Lefurgey officiating.
Burial will follow at the Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick.

Ruth P. 'Rosie' Tennyson
Chestertown -- Ruth P. "Rosie" Tennyson, 88, of Art Tennyson Road, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at her home.
Born May 31, 1912, in Igerna, she was the daughter of the late Swain and Harriet (Hamner) Perry.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of the area.
Her husband, Arthur R. Tennyson passed away in August 1985 after more than 50 years of marriage.
She was a long-time member of the Chestertown Community United Methodist Church and the Church Women's society. She was also a member of the former Atateka-Rebekah Lodge of Chestertown.
Her favorite pastimes included spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, crocheting and reading.
Besides her husband and parents, her son, Arthur S. Tennyson, died on March 12, 1979.
Survivors include her two sons, William E. Tennyson and his wife, Beverly, of Chestertown; Joseph R. Tennyson and his wife, Kathryn, of Chestertown; six grandchildren, Ruby Parker and her husband, William, of Chestertown; Brenda Lewis and her husband, Michael, of Chestertown; Lorinda Tennyson of Albany; Kathryn Smith and her husband, Raymond, of Chestertown; Joseph Tennyson and his wife, Lisa, of Chestertown, Robert Wood and his wife, Frankie, of Chestertown; three great-great-grandsons; and four great-great-granddaughters, her special niece, Judy Johnson of Glens Falls; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Schlansker, pastor of the Chestertown Community United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Chester Rural Cemetery, Chestertown.
