MILTON H. ANDERSON

RENO, NE — Milton H. Anderson of Reno, NE, formerly of Narrowsburg, NY, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Reno. He was 74.

Son of August Anderson and Bertha Cochran Anderson of Narrowsburg, he was born in May of 1924. He was the widower of Rose Mary Anderson.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur and Joseph, both of Reno; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Evelyn Nober of Narrowsburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services were held in Reno. Burial was in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island, NY.

HELEN MAE BRANNING

HONESDALE — Helen Mae Branning of Honesdale, PA, a former worker at Sherman Mills in Hawley, PA and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, April 5, 1999, in Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart, PA. She was 84.

Daughter of Frank and Mary Lewis Kiegler, she was born September 2, 1914, in Honesdale. She was the widow of Percy Branning.

She had worked as a seamstress for the Katz Company of Honesdale and was co-owner of the former Branning Tavern in Cherry Ridge, PA.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews, and friends.

Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Paul H. McCauley of the Central UM Church in Honesdale officiated. Burial was in the Indian Orchard Cemetery in Texas Township.

CHRISTOPHER COLBERG

MONGAUP VALLEY — Christopher Colberg of Mongaup Valley, a self-employed private investigator and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 2, 1999, in Mongaup Valley. He was 36.

Son of Carl R. and Hildagarde Ramsey Colberg, he was born April 4, 1962, in Monticello.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Monticello.

Survivors include his parents of Mongaup Valley; a son, Matthew of Brooklyn; a sister, Erica of Stamford, CT; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were held at the Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiated. Burial was in the Union Cemetery in Mongaup Valley.

LESTER H. CROOKSTON

HOBE SOUND, FL — Lester H. Crookston of Hobe Sound, FL, a retired senior boys’ supervisor with the New York State Division of Youth in Goshen, formerly of Middletown and Glen Spey, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at the Hospice of Martin & St. Lucie, Inc. Residence in Stuart, FL. He was 81.

He was born in Rutsonville and had been a 25-year winter and permanent resident of Hobe Sound.

A Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was a captain in the US Army, and a member of the American Legion Post #152 in Middletown and Hall-Brian Post #10132, VFW in Hobe Sound.

He was a member of the Heritage Ridge Golf Club in Hobe Sound; Port Jervis Lodge #643, BPOE; and an honorary member of the Beaver Brook and Whipporwill Hunting Clubs in Narrowsburg.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Edna Crookston; a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Robert Andersen of Andover, VT; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jane and Daniel Dougher; and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Nathaniel Dougher, all of Morrisville, VT.

A memorial service was held in Stuart, FL. The Rev. Fred Ball, pastor of the Hobe Sound Methodist Church, officiated.

FRANCIS WALTER DAVIS

LONG EDDY — Francis W. Davis of Long Eddy, owner of Wildwood Studio & Art Gallery in Long Eddy, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, in Community General Hospital of Sullivan County in Harris. He was 78.

Son of the late Walter J. and Helene Faith Davis, he was born August 18, 1920, in Union, NJ.

He was known for his wildlife paintings and books and for teaching fly fishing; was a member of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and member Emeritus of the board of directors, Roscoe-Rockland Chamber of Commerce; NYS Outdoor Writers Association; and the National Rifle Association. He was a World War II US Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche "Dolly" Davis, at home; three daughters, Patricia A. Hendrickson-Hampleman and husband, Eric of Albuquerque, NM, Suzanne Hubbart and husband, Mitch, of Winchester, VA, and Sonni Sampson and husband, C. Scot of Ovid; two sisters, Evelyn Leckes and husband, John, and Rosemary Sherman of Middletown; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe. The Rev. James O’Rourke officiated.

NONIA E. GAYLORD

MONTICELLO — Nonia E. Gaylord of Monticello, a clerk at the Raleigh Hotel Gift Shop in South Fallsburg, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at home. She was 33.

Daughter of Owen and Geraldine Brooks Hall, she was born September 22, 1965, in Brooklyn.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello; was a foster mother and a Red Cross volunteer.

Survivors include her parents; a son, Owen Jason Horace; two daughters, Tiffany McCoy and Chantel Gaylord, all of Monticello; a brother, Kenneth Dark of the Bronx; a sister, Theresa Borden of Monticello; four step-brothers, Anthony, Vincent, Philip and Kevin Hall of New York City; two step-sisters, Renee and Joyce Hall, both of New York City; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were held at the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello. The Rev. Mervin Armstead officiated. Burial was in Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

ILONA OLAH

MONTICELLO — Ilona Olah of Monticello, a homemaker and long-time area resident, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, in Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 79.

Daughter of the late Ludwig and Flora Korosi Proskso, she was born November 24, 1919, in Romania.

She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas RC Church in Forestburgh.

Survivors include her husband, Nick Olah, at home; two sons, Nicholas and wife, Rohamie of Oxnard, CA and Gabriel and wife, Jane of Washingtonville; two granddaughters, Pam and Renee; nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas RC Church in Forestburgh. The Rev. Ivan Csete officiated. Burial was in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Forestburgh.

JOHN J. SCHLEDORN

LIBERTY — John J. Schledorn of Liberty, a retired bartender for several Sullivan County resort hotels, including Kutsher’s Hotel in Monticello, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 68.

He was born August 8, 1930, in Merrick.

He was a US Army Veteran serving in 1951 and 1952.

Survivors include close friends, Joyce Walker, Ricky and Theodore Rivenburg; and friends and employees at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center.

Services were held at the Ramsay’s Funeral Home in Liberty. The Rev. Bridgette LcConey officiated. Cremation took place at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope. Burial will be at a later date in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
