Elmira Heights, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at the Chemung 
County Nursing Facility.
She worked for Remmington Rand in Elmira before retiring.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Sheldon of Clearwater, 
Fla., Marvin Sheldon of Berryville, Va.; a stepdaughter, 
Martha Koch of Floral City, Fla.
Services will be held at noon Tuesday at the Barber Funeral 
Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads. Burial will be in Woodlawn 
Cemetery, Elmira.



Sterling M. VanHousen
SAVONA | Sterling M. VanHousen, 78, of 6 Maple St., died 
Friday, July 12, 2002 at home after a short illness.
He worked as a deputy sheriff in the 1940s and retired from 
Corning Glass Works in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jensen VanHousen; two 
sons, Wayne VanHousen of Savona and Keith VanHousen of Scotia; 
and a sister, Hilda Fox of South Bend, Ind.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Seager-Jones 
Funeral Home, 4 E. Washington St., Bath. Services will be held 
at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, the Rev. Sam Stetter 
officiating. 
Burial will be in Seamans Cemetery, Savona.

March 18, 2002 at the Bath Veterans Medical Center.
He had been a Auto Salesman.

Cemetery.

WESTFIELD, PA. | Martha Passage White VanNorman, 96, of Green 
Home, formerly of 118 Walnut St., Westfield, died Tuesday, 
April 9, 2002 at home.
Survivors include a son, David VanNorman of Naples, Fla.
There will be no calling hours.
Services will be held at 
2 p.m. Tuesday at the Westfield United Methodist Church, 
Westfield, the Rev. Dr. James F. Bellamy officiating. Burial 
will be in Bradford County Memorial Gardens, Luther Mills.

FLORIDA | Betty Alice VanScoter, 78, formerly of Hornell, died 
Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 in Winter Haven.
She had worked for the former A&P in Hornell for over 30 
years.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Harding of Florida; a 
sister, JoAnn VanSkiver of Canisteo; two brothers, Thomas 
Hollister and James Hollister, both of Hornell.
Services were held in Florida.

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. | Verda M. VanSteamburg, 81, of Galeton, 
died Saturday Aug. 17, 2002 at Manor Care North in 
Williamsport.
Survivors include a son William E. VanSteamburg of Bristol, 
Vt.; a brother, Clifford Osgood of Lawrenceville.
Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the 
Collins-Olney Funeral Home, Galeton.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at noon Tuesday, the Rev. Elton Smith officiating. Burial will 
be in West Branch Cemetery.



Geraldine A.  VanWinkle 
CORNING | Geraldine A. VanWinkle, 95, formerly of Camptown, 
Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at Founders Pavilion.
She had been employed at the Eclipse Company of Elmira also at 
the Campton Dress Company of Camptown, Pa., and she retired 
from the Bendix Corporation of South Montrose, Pa., with 21 
years service.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Patrick of Corning; a son, 
Gerald WanWinkle of Wilton, N.H.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held in Rushville, Pa., at the 
convenience of the family. Burial will be in Rushville 
Cemetery.

HORSEHEADS l Clifford A. "Tip" VanWoert, 85, of 15 Reynolds 
Drive, Horseheads, formerly of Caton Road, Corning, died 
Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at his home.
He was employed with Dann's Dairy, was manager of Tip's Mobil 
in Corning, and manager of the Foodmart Auto Service Center, 
Corning, before retiring in 1980. 
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marion VanWoert; one 
son, Daryl VanWoert of Caton; two daughters, Denise Kilburn of 
Horseheads and Carolyn Drake of Norwich, Conn.; a brother, 
Elmer VanWoert of Painted Post.
There will be no calling hours.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First 
Presbyterian Church in Painted Post, the Rev. Stephen Sibson 
officiating.
Arrangements are by the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First 
St., Corning.

BATAVIA | Raymond W. Vanzile, 60, of 9521 Francis Road, died 
Wednesday, April 3, 2002.
He was a farmer and a maintenance man at Union 76 Truck Stop 
in Corfu.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Vanzile of Batavia; a 
daughter, Constance Schirmer of Batavia; two brothers, Robert 
Vanzile of Warsaw and Duane Rogers of Addison; four sisters, 
Linda Drayton of Cameron, N.C., Carol Pangracio of Tallahasee, 
Fla., Cindy Provorce of Nunda, and Donna Dilcher of Apex, N.C.

died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at home.
He had several jobs as a draftsman and operated his own 
business, Rennie's Grill in Elmira for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Wilsern Vockroth of 
Southport; three daughters, E. Diane Serino-Wood of Elmira, 
Helene L. Robeson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Madelyn Balok 
of Southport.

years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gail McDonald Watts; a 
daughter, Kim Watts of Houston, Texas; two sons Mark Watts and 
Jim Watts both of Pine City; five sisters, Virginia Bush, 
Dorothy Evans, Betty Harris, Martha Cicconi, and Helen 
Gradwahl.
