CORNING | Donald Jackson Tingley, 79, of Goff Road, died 
Friday, May 31, 2002 at his home.
He was a retired mechanical engineer at Corning Inc., where he 
worked for 50 years. He later worked as a tax preparer for 
Andrews Tax Service in New Jersey.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla; three daughters, Susan 
Tingley and Carol Tingley, both of Raleigh, NC, and Jane 
Hunter of Austin, Texas; two sons, James Tingley of Corning 
and Edward Tingley of San Francisco, a brother, Sanford 
Tingley of Cleveland.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Monday at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 
14 E. Pulteney St. 
Services will be held at 
11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 144 
Cedar St., Corning, the Rev. Sung Ho Lee officiating. Burial 
will follow in the Hope Cemetery Annex.



Frederick  Titman
BATH | Frederick Titman, 72, of 10 Howell St., died Friday, 
Feb. 8, 2002 at the Bath VA Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Bath 
National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Bender-Brown & Powers 
Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell.



Jean R.  Titus
ELMIRA | Jean R. Titus, 65, of Horseheads, died Saturday, Aug. 
24, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira.
She worked for the Chemung Canal Trust Company before 
retiring.
Survivors include two sons, Michael John Titus of San Diego, 
Daniel Leonard Titus of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Nancy Byham of 
Durham, N.C.
Calling hours are from 7-9 p.m. today at the VanBuskirk-Lynch 
Funeral Home, Horseheads.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. 
Tuesday at St. Mary Our Mother Church, the Rev. Robert C. 
MacNamara, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Our Mother 
Cemetery, Horseheads.



Aldo  Tobia 
CORNING | Aldo "Doc" Tobia of Corning died Friday, July 5, 
2002 at home.
Arrangements are incomplete with Carpenter's Funeral Home.

AVOCA | Helen G. Todd, 96, of Avoca, died Friday, July 26, 
2002 at home.
She was a retired Steuben County Department of Social Services 
case worker.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Senger of 
Schaumburg, Ill., Sylvia Simone of Rochester, Pamela Stewart 
of Cape Coral, Fla., and Clara Alsheimer of Avoca; two sons, 
David Todd and Bradley Todd, both of Penn Yan.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at H. P. Smith 
and Son Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main Street, Canisteo.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in the Hartsville Center Cemetery.

LAWRENCEVILLE, PA. | Robert W. Towner, 59, of Buffards 
Riverside Estates died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at home.
He was a pipefitter with Corning Inc. 
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Morgan; two daughters, 
Deborah Jones and Christine Towner, both of Lindley, N.Y.; a 
son, Scott Towner of Irvine, Calif.; a stepson, Brian Button 
of Knoxville.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips 
Funeral Home Inc., 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, N.Y.
Services will be held at

LAWRENCEVILLE, PA. | Robert W. Towner, 59, of Buffards 
Riverside Estates, died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at home.
He had been a pipe fitter with Corning Inc. for 39 years.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Towner of Lawrenceville; 
two daughters, Deborah Jones and Christine Towner, both of 
Lindley, N.Y.; a son, Scott Towner of Irvine, Calif.; a 
stepson, Brian Button of Knoxville.

Wilma O. Towner 
BATH | Wilma Onnolee Towner, 81, formerly of Avoca, died 
Friday, April 26, 2002 at the Steuben County Health Care 
Facility.
She was a retired Avoca School District bus driver.
Survivors include two sons, Eldon Towner of Wheeler and 
Bernard Towner of Wallace; two daughters, Virginia O. Towner 
of Prattsburgh and Patricia A. Havens of Wallace; one brother, 
Dalton Wheaton of Bath.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Seager-Jones Funeral 
Home, 4 E. Washington St.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be 
in Clearview Cemetery, North Cohocton.



Harold C. Traub 
WILLIAMSPORT, PA. | Harold C. Traub, 81, of Germania, died 
Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Williamsport Hospital.
He owned and operated Pine Kettle Farm in Germania for many 
years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, June K. Welfing Traub; 
two sons, David Traub of Gillett and John Traub of Germania.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Collins-Olney Funeral 
Home, Galeton.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthaeus 
Lutheran Church, Germania, the Rev. Joseph A. Wolf Jr.

ELMIRA | Gertrude C. Treat, 93, of Horseheads, died Monday, 
Sept. 16, 2002 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
She had worked as a supervisor in the advertising department 
at the Elmira Star-Gazette.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Ballard and Lindgren 
Funeral Home, 161 Oakwood Ave., Elmira Heights.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

ELMIRA | Gertrude E. (Kilburn) Tripp, 73, of Nelson, Pa., died 
Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
She was a homemaker.

five daughters, Arlene White of Daytona, Fla., Denise 
Satterlee of Presho, Tammey Horton of Lawrenceville, Pa.,

Corning, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 at the Waters of Three 
Rivers.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary C. Burke of Painted Post 
and Nancy E. Morse of Campbell; a son, James C. Trondsen of 
Painted Post; a brother, Bruce Personius of Corning; two 
sisters, Dorothy Batchelder of Painted Post and Pauline 
Coolidge of Elmira.

SAYRE, PA. | Shirley J. Trott, 73, of Gold, died Wednesday, 
May 29, 2002 at Robert Packer Hospital.
She had been a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, John E. Trott and Frederick W. 
Trott, both of Genesee.
Calling hours are 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Gold Church, 
Gold.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Dr. Richard G. Kirk and Rev. 
M.H. Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Raymond Cemetery,

BATH | Frank T. Trzeciak, 82, of the Bath V.A. Medical Center, 
died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002.
Services were held at Bath National Cemetery. Arrangements are

Hornell.



Dmytro Tupytczak
HORSEHEADS | Dmytro Tupytczak (Metro Topichak), 90, of 
Horseheads, died June 30, 2002 at Elcor Health Services. 
He owned and operated Topichak's Superette and Home Bakery on 
Pulteney Street in Corning and later worked at the Foodmart on 
Market Street in Corning.
Survivors include his son, Paul Topichak of Hammondsport; one 
daughter, Mary Ann Havalchak of Camp Hill, Pa.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter's 
Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, with a funeral 
Matins at 7:30 p.m., Fr. Stephen Loposky officiating.
A Panahida service will be held there at 8:45 a.m. Friday with 
the funeral divine liturgy at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's 
Orthodox Church, 244 Sunset Drive, Corning. Burial will be in 
Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Elmira Heights. 



Lloyd B. Turner 
MOBILE, ALA. | Lloyd B. "Charlie" Turner, 38, formerly of 
Corning, N.Y., died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002.
Survivors include his father, Donald Turner, Sr. of Corning, 
N.Y.; two sons, Daniel Turner and Jesse Turner, both of 
Endicott, N.Y.; two brothers, Donald Turner Jr. of Bath, N.Y. 
and Roy Turner of Corning, N.Y.; four sisters, Clymenie Bibalo 
of Beaver Dams, N.Y., Joyce Burguess of Bath, N.Y., Violet 
Stevens and Roseann Kimble both of Corning, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at 
Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, N.Y., 
the Rev. Ronald Abersold officiating. Burial will be in Hope 
Cemetery, Corning.



Wayne C.  Turner 
WELLSVILLE | Wayne C. Turner, 78, of Andrews Settlement, Pa., 
died Saturday July 13, 2002 at Jones Memorial Hospital in 
Wellsville.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and owned the 
Hofbrau Restaurant in Olean. He also worked at CNG 
Transmission in Ellisburg for 21 years before retiring in 
1989.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Helen J. Greene; a 
daughter Susan Bowe of Sewell, N.J.; two sons, Harold Johnson 
of Crosby, Pa. and Phillip Johnson of Gaithersburg, Md.; a 
sister, Marjorie Burnett of Andrews Settlement, Pa.
Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the 
Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home, 621 S. Main St., Ulysses.
Services will be held there at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev.

Anna  Twardowski 
PENN YAN | Anna Twardowski, 94, of Dundee, formerly of 
Passaic, N.J., died Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at Soldiers & 
Sailors Memorial Hospital. 
She was a machine operator for Robinson-Gulliber, a 
handkerchief maker in Passaic, NJ.
Survivors include one daughter, Irene Miller of Dundee; one 
son, Richard V. Twardowski of Missouri City, Texas; two 
sisters, Stella Maciag and Helen Judkins, both of Dundee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 
10:30 a.m. today at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Union 
Street, Dundee.
Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., 
Dundee.



Betty J.  Twist
ELMIRA | Betty Jane "BJ" Twist, 66, of Painted Post, died 
Thursday, June 27, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Twist of Painted Post; a 
daughter, Darlene Taylor of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, 
John Twist of Canandaigua and Bruce Twist of Painted Post; a 
sister, Mary Ann Garlock of Corning; two stepsisters, Ruby 
Schoener and Evelyn Joris both of Painted Post.

Horseheads, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at St. Joseph's 
Hospital, after a brief illness.
Survivors include one son, James Urkewich of Elmira; one 
sister, Barbara Howe of Hammondsport and Florida; one brother, 
Robert Baylor of Cincinnati, Ohio.

CORNING | Betty E. Van Alstine, 80, of Pine Hill Road, died 
Monday, Sept. 2, 2002 at Corning Hospital.

Tidwell, both of Picacho, Ariz., Betty Wheeler of Corning and 
Sandra Gee of Tyrone; a son, DeWitt Van Alstine of Corning; 
two brothers, George Rogers of Harrodsburg, Ky., and David 
Rogers of Corning.

one daughter, Lynn M. Van Dusen Evans of Chuluota, Fla.

WESTFIELD, Pa. | Raymond W. Van Pelt, 84, of Harrison Valley 
Pa., died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at the Bonnie Hurler's 
Personal Care Home.
He was a retired employee of the Eberle Tannery, Westfield.
Survivors include his wife Doris Walters of Harrison Valley; 
two daughters, Sandra Francis of Harrison Valley and Gayle 
Wilson of Elkland.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Harrison 
Valley Federated Church, the Rev. Ed Collins officiating.
Burial will be in the Ulysses Cemetery.



Ernest W.  Vance
BATH | Ernest "Ernie" W. Vance, 79, of North Road, Pulteney, 
died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at Ira Davenport Hospital in 
Bath.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked at 
Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport before retiring in 1985 after 
25 years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eugenia E. Vance; two 
sons, Ernest "Bill" Vance Jr. of Sachse, Texas, Gerald Vance 
of Andover; five daughters, Anna Bauer of Wayne, Althea 
Wakefield of Avoca, Shirley Edwards of Avoca, Mary C. Vance of 
Hornell, Elizabeth Jackson of Dansville; a brother, Mahlon 
"Meg" Vance of Canisteo; a sister, Betty Harrison of Canisteo.

HORNELL | John R. VanDelinder, 75, formerly of Millerton, Pa., 
died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at Hornell Gardens.
He was a retired farmer, truck driver and school bus driver 
for North Tioga and Troy schools.
Survivors include a son, Frank of Millerton, Pa.; a daughter, 
Edith Maynard of Canisteo; a brother, Harry of Elmira.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Gary Wilston Funeral 
Home, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, Pa.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m., the Revs. Robert 
Bevins and Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in

Milton L.  Vanderhoff
ELMIRA | Milton L. Vanderhoff, 92, of 11 Vanderhoff Road, died 
Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at the Chemung County Nursing 
Facility.
He had been a letter carrier for the United States Post Office 
in Elmira Heights and Elmira. He and his wife also operated a 
family farm.
Survivors include one daughter, Yvonne Kepler of Columbia, 
S.C.; two sons, Leslie Vanderhoff and Larry Vanderhoff, both 
of Elmira.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Van 
Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home, Horseheads.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Sidney 
S. Aldrich officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove
