HORNELL | Bettie D. Sweeney, 80, of Karr Valley Road, Almond, 
died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at St. James Mercy Hospital.
She had worked as a waitress at several area restaurants, 
including the lunch counter at the former Cards Drug Store and 
the Texas Cafe.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Williams of 
Raleigh, N.C., Kathleen Drake of Almond and Dianne LoVerde of 
Watertown; a son, Daniel E. Sweeney of Hornell; two brothers, 
Edward "Mickey" Donahue of Hornell and Floyd T. Donahue Jr. of 
San Antonio, Texas.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Dagon Funeral 
Home, 38 Church St., Hornell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at 
St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.



Helen I.  Swift
HORNELL | Helen I. Swift, 78, of Hornell and Pittsford, died 
Thursday Sept. 12, 2002.
She had been a deacon of the United Presbyterian Church, 
Hornell.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn D. Swift of Hornell; two 
daughters, Dianna Willsey of Pittsford and Cynthia Costa of 
Retsof.
Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Bender-Brown & Powers 
Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United 
Presbyterian Church of Hornell, the Rev. David Kilgore and 
Rev. Jack Heister officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn 
Cemetery, Canisteo.



Omar H. Swift 
WELLSBORO, Pa. | Omar H. Swift, 82, of Tioga, died Wednesday, 
May 8, 2002 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.
He had been a house mover and operated his own business in New 
Jersey also owned and operated Tioga Hunting Preserve.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Rita Fenner Swift; 
four daughters, Betty Andreason Link, of Lawrenceville, 
Lillian Brown of Bridgeton, N.Y., Claudia Brown of Charlotte, 
N.C. and LuAnn Morgan of Lake Wylie, S.C.
Calling hours are 2-3 p.m. Saturday at Tussey-Mosher Funeral 
Home, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 3 p.m. Saturday, the Rev. Eugene Charsky officiating.



Doris L.  Sykora 
WELLSBORO, PA. | Doris L. Sykora, 79, of Galeton, died 
Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 in the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial 
Hospital. 
She had been a secretary for Sykora Logging for many years and 
was a clerk at Martin's Shursave in Galeton.
Survivors include three sons, David Sykora of Japan, Ted 
Sykora of Galeton, and Tim Sykora of Ulysses; two daughters, 
Lana Bennett and Lucille Whitney, both of Wellsboro.
Calling hours are 9-10 a.m. Friday at St. Bibiana Church, 
Galeton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held there at the 
conclusion of calling hours at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Peter 
Menghini officiating. Burial will be in Germania Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Collins-Olney Funeral Home, Galeton.



William  Tadder
ELMIRA | William Tadder, 62, of Elmira, died Saturday, May 11, 
2002.
He was a tavern owner and a veteran.
Survivors include Constance Ryan Tadder; two daughters, Helen 
Benedict of Elmira Heights and Laurie Orr of Erin; and a 
brother, Edwin Tadder of Eustis, Fla. 
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Van 
Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home at Mill Street and Grand Central 
Avenue, Horseheads. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday 
at the funeral home, with Deacon Robert Stowell officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Holy Cross 
Cemetery in Watkins Glen.

WELLSBORO, PA. | Lloyd E. Taft, 77, of Box 55, Cowanesque, 
died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial 
Hospital.
He had worked for Eberle Tanning Co., Westfield.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Taft; two daughters, 
Barbara Lewis of Coudersport and Lou Ann Taft of Englewood, 
Fla.; two brothers, Milton Taft of Knoxville and Paul Taft of 
Westfield; four sisters, Louise Plumley of Coudersport, 
Phyllis Potter of Westfield, Janet Cary of Cownaesque and Rose 
Kimble of Elkland.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Kenyon Funeral 
Home, 222 West Main Street, Westfield.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at 
St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Westfield the Rev. Wieslaw 
Ziebacz officiating. Burial will be in Champlin Cemetery, 
Westfield.



Daniel E.  Taft 
OSCEOLA, PA. | Daniel E. Taft, 64, of Osceola, died Sunday, 
Sept. 8, 2002.
He had been a retired truck driver and mechanic for 
Gleason-Baker.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Moon Taft; a son, Randy 
Taft; four daughters, Shelly Oberhaus of New Haven, Mo., 
Sheila Burton and Mary Gigee both of Osceola and Crissie 
Morgan of Millerton; a brother, Cecil Elmer Bryce Taft of 
Lawrenceville.

Wanda C.  Talbett 
COUDERSPORT, PA. | Wanda C. Talbett, 74, of Ulysses, died 
Monday, March 18, 2002 at Cole Memorial Hospital.
She had been a houseparent and drug and alcohol counselor in 
Wellsville, N.Y.
Survivors include two sons, David Talbett of Whitesville, N.Y. 
and Paul Talbett of Kempner, Texas; a brother, Clifford 
Cornell of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Sharon Coyle of 
Wellsville, N.Y., and Sandra Witter of Auburn, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the 
Ulysses First Baptist Church, the Rev. Dr. Richard G. Kirk 
officiating. Burial will in North Bingham Cemetery. 
Arrangements are by Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses.



Susan Thomas  Taluba 
FORTY FORT, PA. | Susan Thomas Taluba, 91, formerly of 
Corning, N.Y., died Sunday, May 19, 2002.
She was a registered nurse until her retirement in the early 
'90s.
Survivors include two daughters, Michaelyn Compton and Susan 
M. Taluba, both of Forty Fort.
Services will be held at 
10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hanover Green Cemetery, the 
Rev. Patrice Green officiating.

Wilkes-Barre is in charge of arrangements.



William J. Tanner 
WELLSBORO, Pa. | William J. Tanner, 81, of Sherwood Street, 
died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.
He had been a supervisor for Corning, Inc., Wellsboro, 
retiring in 1979 after 38 years of service.
Survivors include two sons, Frank W. Tanner of Knoxville, 
Tenn. and Donald G. Tanner of Irwin; a daughter, Nancy J. 
Bowen of Lykens; a sister, Pauline Sharp of Mansfield.
Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Tussey-Mosher Funeral 
Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 6 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Eugene Charsky officiating. Burial 
will be in Wellsboro Cemetery.



Dorothy J. Tapper 
SCHENECTADY | Dorothy J. Tapper, 79, of Corning, died Tuesday, 
June 25, 2002 in Schenectady.
She had worked for Corning Inc. as a machine operator for five 
years and was also a housewife.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas E. Tapper of Schenectady, 
Frank V. Tapper Jr. of Painted Post and William V. Tapper of 
Corning.
Calling hours are 4-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 
W. Pulteney St., Corning.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. 
Richards officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains 
Cemetery, Coopers Plains.

HORSEHEADS | June C. Taylor, 87, of Bethany Village, formerly 
of West-lake Street, died Wednes-day, March 20, 2002.
She was retired from Westinghouse Inc., Horseheads.
Survivors include a son, Ernie C. Taylor of DuBois, Pa.; two 
brothers, Richard Carrier of Pine Valley and Alan Carrier of 
Ovid; a sister, Wilma Carlton of Alpine.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First 
United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Barber Funeral 
Home, Horseheads.



Alphonse  Tergino 
BATH | Alphonse Tergino, 69, of Geneva Street, died Thursday, 
Aug. 15, 2002 at the Bath Veterans Medical Center.
He had been a security guard.
Services were held at Bath National Cemetery. Arrangements 
were with Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo 
St., Hornell.



Theresa C.  Terry
SARASOTA, Fla. | Theresa C. Terry of 18 Sawyer Street, Hornell 
N.Y., died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Sarasota Memorial 
Hospital.
She had been employed as a waitress for 30 years at the former 
Big Elms Restaurant, Hornell, N.Y. 
Survivors include three daughters, Susanne Wedlake of 
Sarasota, Sharland Winer of Rochester, N.Y., and Mary Theresa 
Rodriguez of Pittsford, N.Y.; two sons, J. Bernard Smith of 
Americus, Ga., and Stephen Terry of North Hornell, N.Y.

Horseheads, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at home.
She had been a supervisor for NYNEX in Elmira.
Survivors include her husband of 12 years, James Theopheles; 
two daughters, Patti Lynn Gude Turner of Horseheads and Marco 
Jo Gude Matejka of Bucking-ham, Pa.; two sisters, Lois May 
Burt Barton of Horse-heads and Donna Lee Burt of Leesburg, 
Fla.; one brother, Charles A. Burt II of Wellsburg.

Margaret B.  Thomas 
CORNING | Margaret B. Daney Thomas, 71, of Pearl Street, died 
Friday, September 6, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
She had been employed at Rockwell's Department Store.
Survivors include a son, David Thomas of Addison; three 
daughters, Carla Fullmer of Frederick, Md., Dawn Titus of 
Lindley, and Tammy Watson of Dansville; two brothers, Michael 
Daney and Gerald Daney; four sisters, Blanche Kratz, Nancy 
Corigan and Mary Carol Goblia, all of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and 
Jean Cagigus of Macungie, Pa.
There will be no calling hours.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's 
Church.
Arrangements are by the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St.

COUDERSPORT, Pa. | Eva Thompson, 93, of Ulysses, died Friday, 
July 26, 2002 at the Cole Manor, Coudersport.
She and her husband operated a farm.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 
the Rev. James T. Wenrich officiating.
Burial will be in the Ulysses Cemetery.

BIG FLATS | Bernice Ida Smith Thompson, 78, of Big Flats, died 
Thursday June 27, 2002 at home.

Dams, Mary Jane Moshier of Valois, Linda Cattertt of 
Groveland, Fla.; two sons, David Thompson of West Bloomfield, 
Richard Thompson of Campbell; three brothers, Lawrence Smith

Nelson, Pa.; a sister, Mary Ann Perry of Danbury, Conn.

Sept. 16, 2002 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center.

Thornton of Rochester, and Bud Thornton of Nashville, Tenn.

ELMIRA | Evangeline L. Thrall, 73, of Route 414, Corning, died 
Feb. 11, 2002 at Arnot Ogden Hospital.
She retired from Schweizer Aircraft Corp. after 47 years of 
service.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Gene Thrall of 
Corning; a son, Raymond Thrall of Erin; two daughters, Rebecca 
Hoffman of Horseheads and Penny Nelson of Corning; three 
brothers, Roderick Coons of Pinckney, Mich., Raymond Coons of 
Las Vegas, Nev., and Robert Coons of Brigham City, Utah; a 
sister, Eloise Marzec of Prescott, Ariz.

BATH | Frank Thrall, 83, of Lindley died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 
2002 at the Bath Veterans Administration.
He had worked as an equipment operator with several firms 
including carpenter's Brothers in Coopers Plains retiring in 
1981.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Maude Thrall; a son, 
Daniel Thrall of Wake Forest, N.C.; three brothers, William 
Thrall of Long Island, Lawrence Thrall of Fort Walton Beach, 
Fla. and Gene Thrall of Corning; four sisters, Georgia 
Plewinsky of Painted Post, Donna Olephant of LaFarge, Wis., 
Dorothy Huggler of Monterey and Grace Murphy of Savona.

He had been a circulation marketing manager with the Lancaster 
Newspaper for 4 years.
Survivors include his wife Karen Argentieri Thurkins; his 
parents, Paul and Mildred Baltich Thurkins of Painted Post, 
N.Y.; a daughter, Carrie Thurkins of Chadds Ford; two sons, 
Nicholas Thurkins and Michael Thurkins both at home; three 
brothers, David Thurkins of Painted Post, N.Y, Jerry Thurkins 
of Dallas, Ga. and Jeffrey Thurkins of Wethersfield, Conn.; a 
sister, Diane French of East Burke, Vt.
