Lakemont Congregational Church, Lakemont-Himrod Road, Dundee, 
the Revs. Albert Stuart and Marion Massecar officiating. 
Burial will be in Lakemont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Baird

John J.  Sindelar
HORSEHEADS | John J. Sindelar, 89, of 1147 Willow St., died 
Sunday, May 12, 2002 at home.
He was a retired painting contractor .
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Van Buskirk-Lynch 
Funeral Home, Mill Street & Grand Central Avenue.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 8 p.m. Thursday the Deacon Daniel Hurley officiating. 
Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Breesport.



Raymond J.  Sirianni
HORNELL | Raymond J. "Ray" Sirianni, 65, of 1190 Webbs 
Crossing Road, died unexpectedly at home.
He had worked for about 23 years as an office manager for the 
former Hornell Auto Supply, nine years as an expeditor for M-K 
Corp. and for 10 years at Lamac Unlimited, retiring three 
months ago.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle Ratajczak Sirianni; a 
sister, Cleora Carroll of Hornell; three brothers, Frank 
Sirianni of Palenville, Richard "Dick" Sirianni and William 
"Bill" Sirianni, both of Hornell.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Dagon Funeral 
Home, 
38 Church St., Hornell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at 
St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery

Jane B.  Sisson 
SAYRE, PA. | Jane B. Sisson, 78, of 86 Front St., Addison, 
N.Y., died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at Robert Packer Hospital 
in Sayre.
She worked as a librarian's assistant at the Pioneer Central 
School in Arcade, N.Y., before retiring.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Harold Sisson Sr. 
of Addison, N.Y.; two sons, Hal Sisson of Addision, N.Y., Don 
Sisson of Chili, N.Y.; a brother, Carrol Burdick of Angelica, 
N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Burdick Mattison of Whitesville, N.Y.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Addison

POTTER BROOK, PA. | Virginia Skutski, 76, of Galeton, died 
Thursday, March 14, 2002 at Bonnie Hurler's Personal Care 
Home.
She had been a registered nurse at Galeton Production and the 
Green Home in Wellsboro.
Survivors include four daughters, Patty Henry of Germantown, 
Md., Sandra Guarino of Imperial Beach, Calif., Sally DeLong of 
Harrison Valley, and Penny Miller of Boca Raton, Fla.; two 
sons, A. Richard Skutski of Orlando, Fla., and Don A. Skutski 
of Galeton.
There will be no calling hours or services.
Arrangements are by the Collins-Olney Funeral Home, Galeton.



Jack E. Slayton 
BATH | Jack E. Slayton, 71, of 6583 County Route 11, died 
Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the Bath VA Medical Center.
He was employed at C.F. Evans in Elmira.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Slayton of Bath; one 
daughter, Jacquelyn Slayton of Bath; one son, John Say of 
Waterloo; three sisters, Joyce Angelo of Wayne, Marjorie Fox 
of Bath, Betty Ann Tabory of Ontario, Canada; two brothers, 
George Slayton of Penn Yan and Gerald Slayton of Bath; four 
stepdaughters, Cherie Gerych of Scottsville, Donna Gerych of 
Bradford, and Pamela Lisefski and Betty Gerych, both of Bath; 
three stepsons, Joseph Gerych of Bradford and Richard Gerych 
and David Gerych, both of Bath.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Fagan's Funeral 
Home.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. 
Richard Shatzel officiating.



Sophia  Sleeper 
ELMIRA | Sophia Sleeper, 88, of 796 Ridge Road, Horseheads, 
died Friday, July 12, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Louise Gruss of 
Gambrilla, Md., and Patricia Diane Stroud of Laurinburg, N.C.; 
three sons, Robert Charles Sleeper and Roger Alan Sleeper, 
both of Horseheads and Gregory Michael Sleeper of Cumberland, 
Maine; three sisters, Veronica Drake of Syracuse, Mary Jenkins 
and Bernice Mechalke, both of Horseheads; one brother, Leon 
Pabis of Florida.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at 
St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W. Broad St., Horseheads. 
Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Van Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home.

ELMIRA | Mary Ann Sliwa, 85, of Elmira, died Tuesday, May 21, 
2002 at Elcor Health Services.
She had been a licensed practical nurse for more than 25 
years.
Survivors include a son, Walter Sliwa of Elmira; three 
daughters, Anne Wells of Lima, Ohio, Rose Brown of Horseheads 
and Mary Kay Brown of Wellsburg; a brother, Larry Elliott of 
Texas.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday at Caywood's Funeral Home & 
Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport.
Services will be held there at 9 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Pat 
Connor officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul's 
Cemetery.

CORNING | Catherine M. Sloan, 90, of Corning, died Friday, 
Sept. 13, 2002 at the Corning Hospital. 
She was a retired employee of the Corning Glass Works.
Survivors include, a sister, Rita Haradon of Corning.

Services will be held there at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.



Richard D.  Slocum
BALTIMORE | Richard D. Slocum, 62, of Long Beach, Miss., 
formerly of Blossburg, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at 
the University of Maryland Medical Center. 
He was a self-employed general contractor. 
Survivors include his wife, Mauveen McCann Slocum; two sons, 
Ricky Slocum and Randall Slocum, both of Long Beach, Miss.; 
two daughters, Tina Slocum Smith and Julie Slocum Cuevas, both 
of Long Beach, Miss.; three stepsons, Randall Brown of 
Seattle, Gregory Brown of Scotland, and Michael Brown of 
Vancouver, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Deborah Brown Milroy of 
Elko, Nev.; one sister, Helen Baker of Corning, N.Y.

HORNELL | Elnora B. Smalt, 90, of Stage Road Dansville, died 
Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Survivors include, two daughters, Charlotte Cook of Cohocton 
and Sharon Davis of Arkport; two sons, Larry Smalt of Sanford 
Maine and Lynden Smalt of Ft. Mills, S.C.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bender-Brown & 
Powers Funeral Home, Hornell.



Harold H. Smith
ORMOND BEACH, FLA. | Harold H. Smith, 74, of 1335 Fleming 
Ave., formerly of Corning, N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 
at home.
He had been a truck driver for various trucking companies, had 
worked on the construction of the New York State Thruway and 
retired in 1999 as a security guard for the Daytona 
International Speedway, Daytona Beach.
Survivors include four sons, Harold H. Smith Jr. of 
Cooksville, Md., Bernard Smith of Syracuse, N.Y., Clark Smith 
of Ovid, N.Y. and Patrick Smith of Corning, N.Y.; four 
daughters, Norma Jennings of Fort Plain, Marion Briggs 
of Ormond Beach, Twila Coons and Lisa Riff, both of Corning, 
N.Y.

Rochester, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002.
He had worked with New York State Monroe County Pure Waters 
and was a self-employed contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Smith; a son, Brian Smith; 
two daughters, Sabriana Smith and Cheryl Gilmaer; three 
brothers, Beecher Smith, Richard Smith and Gene Smith; a 
sister, Mary Ann VanScooter.

of Westfield, Pa.

He was a Corning Fireman.

Elaine Wilson of Long Mont, Colo.

formerly of Mont Clare and Reading, died Thursday, July 11, 
2002 at Cole Memorial Hospital.
She had been a registered nurse at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial 
Hospital in Wellsboro and at Cole Memorial Hospital. 
Survivors include her husband, James K. Smith; her parents, 
Glenn and Elizabeth Arters of Jim Thorpe; two sons, Kyle J. 
Smith and Nathan T. Smith; one daughter, Emily E. Smith; three 
brothers, Glenn Beener III of Waynesboro, Va., Richard A. 
Beener of Mont Clare, and Kenneth R. Beener of Spring City.

CORNING | William C. "Sparky" Smith, 90, of 22 High St., died 
Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
He had worked for Corning Glass Works as a senior lab 
technician.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Smith; one daughter, Nancy 
Sherman of Elmira; one son, Norman Smith of Painted Post; one 
sister, Margaret Caward of Watkins Glen.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Seamans 
Cemetery, the Rev. Dennis Wienk officiating.

HORNELL | William E. Snyder, 59, of 7085 Route 21, Almond, 
died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at St. James Mercy 
Hospital.
He had worked for Snyder Electric of Almond.

She had owned and operated the Mansfield Dairy Store and 
worked for the Finesilvers Dress shop in Mansfield.

Dress Shop in Corning and worked for Giasson Real Estate in 
Florida.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Bloom of Bath and 
Penny Kimble of Corning.
