Robert L.  Shenk 
TIOGA, Pa. | Robert L. Shenk, 57, of Tioga, died Thursday, 
Aug. 29, 2002 at home after an extended illness.
He had worked for ACP Manufacturing in Lawrenceville. He also 
worked for the Northern Tioga School District for many years 
and did some construction work.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Foster Shenk; four sons, 
Michael Shenk of Ephrata, Randy Ott of Reinholds,aWilliam Ott 
and Timothy Ott, both of Denver, Pa.; his mother, Arlene Shenk 
of Epherta; one brother, Terry Shenk of Reading; one sister, 
Marilyn Heil of Denver, Pa.
Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. today and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the 
Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, 
637 Main St., Mansfield. 
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Gary Weaver officiating. Burial 
will be in Evergreen Cemetery.



Nancy W Sheppard 
BATH | Nancy Watkins Sheppard, 40, of 8418 Route 53, Kanona, 
died Friday, April 12, 2002 at Ira Davenport Memorial 
Hospital.
Survivors include a daughter, Tanya Bennett of Bath; a son, 
Joseph Bennett of Osceola, Pa.; four sisters, Lela Furher of 
Osceola, Pa., Annette Kio of Westfield, Pa., Phyllis Erb of 
Knoxville, Pa., and Jodi Love of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, 
Lewis Watkins Jr. of Conway, Ark.; parents, Lewis and Retha 
Watkins Sr. of Knoxville, Pa.; and fiance, David Ahrens of 
Kanona.
Calling hours are 
p.m. today and 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Kenyon Funeral Home 
Inc., 214 W. Main St., Elkland, Pa.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 2 p.m. Monday, the Rev. Donald Hurlbert officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Knoxville, Pa.



Veronica M.  Sheroshick
CANISTEO | Veronica M. Sheroshick, 80, of 40 W. Main St., died 
Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 at home following a long illness.
She had been an inspector for the Westinghouse plant in Bath, 
retiring in 1984.
Survivors include her husband, Martin A. Sheroshick; three 
daughters, Carolyn Cone, Janis M. Speed and Brenda Fortuna, 
all of Canisteo; a sister, Mary Prezelski of Pennsylvania; a 
brother, Stanley Paukstis of New Jersey.
There will be no calling hours or services.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the 
family at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fremont.



Homer A.  Sherwood
LAWRENCEVILLE, PA. | Homer A. Sherwood, 89, of Ronda's 
Personal Care Home, formerly of Addison, N.Y., died Wednesday, 
May 8, 2002 at home.
He was a retired Army First Lieutenant with 25 years of 
service. He also worked for New York State Department of 
Health.
Survivors include a cousin, Richard O'Lenick of Painted Post, 
N.Y.
Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Friday at Flint Funeral Home, 10 
Wall St., Addison, N.Y.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 3 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Sandra Olmstead officiating. Burial 
will be in Addison Rural Cemetery.



Julia A. Sherwood
HORNELL | Julia A. Sherwood, 79, of McAuley Manor, formerly of 
King Hill Road, Campbell, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 at 
McAuley Manor.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty Stiles and Sandra 
Johnson, both of Cortland, Barbara Sherwood of Elmira, Ellen 
Sherwood of Bath and Cindy Sherwood of Campbell; a son, 
Stephen Sherwood of Pulteney.
Calling hours are noon-
2 p.m. Thursday at Acly-Stover Funeral Home, 
327 E. Second St., Corning.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Coopers Cemetery, 
Coopers Plains.



Francis H.  Shinebarger
PENN YAN | Francis H. Shinebarger, 75, formerly of Millport 
and Dundee, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at Soldiers & Sailors 
Hospital.
He had been a farmer and artist.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Lynn Shinebarger of 
Charleston, W. Va.; a sister, Betty Morgan of Millport.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Caywood's 
Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 8 p.m. Thursday, Pastor Lew Baker officiating. Burial will 
be in Scotchtown Cemetery, Erin, at the convenience of the 
family.



Richard E.  Shinebarger
HORNELL | Richard E. "Shinny" Shinebarger, 75, formerly of 
Cameron Street in North Hornell, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, 
at the Hornell Gardens nursing home.
A member of the former Company K, Army National Guard of 
Hornell, he had been employed in the Soil Department of the 
New York State Department of Transportation.
Survivors include three daughters, Becky Eveland of Hornell, 
Betsy Hawkins of Elba and Betty Henry of Canisteo; three sons, 
Robert Shinebarger of Canisteo, Raymond Shinebarger of Arkport 
and Richard Shinebarger Jr. of Wellsville; two sisters, Ruth 
Fitzpatrick and Dorothy Reitnauer, both of North Hornell.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the 
Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. 
Donato Delia officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, 
Hornell.

ELMIRA | Richard W. Shores, 51, of Elmira died Sunday, March 
17, 2002.
He had been a therapist aide at Elmira Psychiatric Center.
Survivors include four sons, Richard J. Shores of Lake Placid, 
Jason M. Shores and Patrick B. Shores, both of Fla. and Mark 
E. Shores of Pine City; his mother, Rose Cady of Elmira; a 
brother, Donald Shores of Wellsburg; two sisters, Elaine 
Wilson of Pine Valley and Sandra Yentzer of North Carolina.
Services were held Tuesday at Kalec Funeral Home. Burial will 
be today at 9 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.



Lena M.  Short
ELMIRA | Lena M. Short, 86, of Morris Run, Pa., died Saturday, 
Feb. 16, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include seven sons, Earl Short of Elmira, Donald 
Short of Bakersfield, Calif., Charles Short of Horseheads, 
Albert Short of Roaring Branch, Pa., Daniel Short of 
Covington, Pa., Brian Short of New Albany, Pa., Phillip Short 
of Lancaster, Pa.; five daughters, Geraldine Stuckey of Port 
Allegheny, Pa., Lula Ball of Muncy, Pa., Katie Smith of 
Antrim, Pa., Martha Butler of Tioga, Pa., Ruth Jones of 
Canton, Pa.; a brother, Sherman Kelsey of Morris Run, Pa.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Monday at Tussey-Mosher Funeral 
Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro, Pa.
Services will be held there at 1 p.m. Tuesday, her grandson 
Danny Butler officiating. Burial will be in Tioga County 
Memorial Gardens.

ELMIRA | Pauline B. Shrout, 92, of formerly of Bethany 
Village, Horseheads, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at the Arnot 
Ogden Medical Center.
She was an LPN at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Leota Sanders of Nebraska and 
Eloise Shrout of Horseheads; one sister, Eloise VanDusen of 
Washington.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Village 
Courtyards, 3005 Watkins Road, Horseheads. Burial will be in 
Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home, Elmira 
Heights.



Pauline B. Shrout 
ELMIRA | Pauline B. Shrout, 92, of formerly of Bethany 
Village, Horseheads, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at the Arnot 
Ogden Medical Center.
She was an LPN at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Leota Sanders of Nebraska and 
Eloise Shrout of Horseheads; one sister, Eloise VanDusen of 
Washington.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Village 
Courtyards, 3005 Watkins Road, Horseheads. Burial will be in 
Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home, Elmira 
Heights.



Aaron  Shroyer 
HORSEHEADS | Aaron Shroyer, 82, formerly of Woodbine Avenue, 
Southport, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Elcor Health Services.
He had been a truck driver with Teamsters Union Local 529, 
retiring in 1982 with 22 years of driving.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Andrus Shroyer; five 
daughters, Karen Shepard and Lecia Mould both of Horseheads, 
Robin Buckland of Elmira, Julie Shroyer of Southport and 
Sharon Cox of Pennsylvania; an adopted daughter, Tina Castle 
of Lowman; a brother, Dale Shroyer of Horseheads; two sisters, 
Joyce Rody of San Benito, Texas, and Lola Herrick of 
Southport.
Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Caywood Funeral Home 
& Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Edward Crandall officiating. 
Burial will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery.



Joseph E.  Shukwit 
CORNING | Joseph E. Shukwit, 76, of 160 Steuben St., died 
unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at the Corning Hospital.
He was a retired Corning Hospital worker.
Survivors include, his wife, Theola Shukwit, of Corning.
Calling hours are from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. 
Thursday at the Phillips Funeral Home Inc., 17 W. Pulteney St. 
Corning.
Services will be there at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Ronald 
Abersold officiating.
Burial will be in the Coopers Plains Cemetery.

AVOCA | Sarah A. Shults, 89, formerly of 24 Charleswoorth 
Ave., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the 
Avoca United Methodist Church, the Rev. Rene Carrillo 
officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Avoca. 
Arrangements are with Bond-Davis & Bishop Funeral Home, Avoca.



Sarah A. Shults 
BATH | Sarah A. Shults, 89, formerly of 24 Charlesworth Ave., 
Avoca, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Steuben County 
Health Care Facility.
She had been a retired teacher at Avoca Central School for 34 
years.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Shults of Avoca.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Avoca 
United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Bond-Davis & 
Bishop Funeral Home, Avoca.

NORTH HORNELL | Ella M. Shutes, 98, formerly of 398 Canisteo 
St., Hornell, died Friday, June 21, 2002 at McAuley Manor.
She had been employed at Stern & Stern Textiles, the former 
Day Grocery and the former Baisch Dairy.
Survivors include a brother, Donald Flint of Florida.

Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell.
Services will be held there at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sister 
Elaine Hollis officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's

Richard F. Shutt 
NEW YORK CITY | Richard F. Shutt, 63, of 7653 Doorley Road, 
Hornell, died Thursday, March 21, 2002 as a result of injuries 
sustained in a truck accident in New York City.
He was a truck driver for Covered Wagon Train of Hornell.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Martin Shutt; four daughters, 
Tammy Colburn of Hornell, Connie Shutt, at home, Terri Shutt 
of Springfield, Ga., Rebecca McCarthy of Orlando, Fla.; three 
sons, Richard F. Shutt II of Almond, and Devin Shutt and 
Derrick Shutt, both of Ohio; and a brother, Raymond Shutt of 
Pennsylvania.

June 12, 2002 at Hornell Gardens.
She had been a cook at the former Hotel Sher-wood, the Ponce 
deLeon Restaurant, Arkport Inn and Hornell Country Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Coddington of 
Arkport, Mary Jane Burdick of Alfred Station and Dolores 
Beemer of Dalton, Pa.; two sons, John Silsby of Petaluma, 
Calif. and Paul Silsby of Arizona.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at 
St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery,

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA. | Thelma R. Simons, 88, of North Main 
Street Extension, Hornell, N.Y., died Saturday, July 27, 2002.
She was retired from Hickey-Freeman Co., Hornell, N.Y.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Cameron of New Port 
Richey; three sons, Elwin Simons of Hornell, N.Y., William 
Simons of Hernando and Richard Simons Sr. of Canisteo; a 
brother, Theron Phillipson.
