Edward Joseph Northrup
ELMIRA | Edward Joseph Northrup, 47, of 1110 Walnut St., 
Elmira, died Friday May 3, 2002.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1978 to 1998 and 
retired as a chief petty officer. He was owner of Northrup 
Memorials in Elmira.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Mary Rosati Northrup; 
four daughters, Amanda Northrup of Asheville, N.C., Michelle 
Northrup of St. Petersburg, Fla., Megan Northrup of 
Clearwater, Fla., Amy Northrup of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 
father, Edward J. Northrup of Elmira; mother, Lucille Yaeger 
Northrup of Elmira; a brother, Douglas Northrup of Bayonet 
Point, Fla.
There will be no calling hours.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the 
family. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.

died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 at home.

She had worked for Corning Inc. as a lab technician, retiring 
in 1984 with 41 years of service.

S.C.; a sister, Agnes Gauss of Horseheads.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. today at 
St. Mary's Church, Corning. Arrangements are by Haughey

Melvin C. Nott
BATH | Melvin C. Nott, 91, of Taylor Health Care Facility, 
died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at home.
He was a livestock farmer and former security guard for Kodak 
in Rochester.
Survivors include one son, Charles Nott of West Union, S.C.; 
one daughter, Melanie Meyer of Spencerport.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cheshire 
Community Church, 4315 state Route 21 South, Canandaigua, the 
Rev. Kevin Cotter officiating.

THOMASVILLE, GA. | Twila Ohls O'Brien, 87, of the Colquitt 
Retirement Inn, Moultrie, died Friday, March 29, 2002 at 
Archbold Medical Center.
She was a homemaker.

Va.; three daughters, Patty Bradford of Rock Hill, S.C., 
Bonnie O'Brien of Longwood, Fla., and Nancy Paine of Moultrie;

at her home.

CORNING | Harold P. Odell, 85, of Clark Street, Painted Post, 
died Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
He had worked for Corning Inc., as a sheet metal worker 
retiring in 1985 with 46 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen Odell; a 
daughter, Jeanne Root of Milan, Pa.; a son, Robert Odell of 
Coconut Creek, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy Odell and Frances 
Odell, both of Ithaca; three brothers, Charles Odell, James 
Odell and Paul Odell, all of Ithaca.

Services will be held there at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will 
be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Addison.



Jeanne E.  Oelwang
ROCHESTER | Jeanne E. Oelwang, 72, of 103 Williamson Terrace, 
Bath, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Rochester General 
Hospital.
She retired as supervisor of the Nursing Home Care and Long 
Term Care units of the Bath VA Medical Center.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Oelwang of Fort Myers, 
Fla.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. 
Wednesday in St. Ann's Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell. Burial 
will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Hornell.
Fagan's Funeral Home, 35 W. Morris St., Bath, is in charge of 
the arrangements.



Maxine Olsowsky
ANGELICA | Maxine Olsowsky, of 41 Brooklyn St., died Monday, 
May 13, 2002.
She had worked at Bell Aircraft during World War II and later 
retired from Motorola in Arcade.
Survivors include two sisters, Janet Roberts of Annandale, 
Va., and Bette Rowe of Rochester.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the 
Angelica United Methodist Church.

Margaret S.  Opelt
BATH | Margaret "Peg" Said Opelt, 96, of 1311 East Lake Road, 
Hammondsport, died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at the Steuben 
County Health Care Facility.
She retired from New York Central Railroad after 20 years of 
service and also worked at Corning Fiberbox in Riverside and 
Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post.
Survivors include two sons, Robert S. Opelt of Bedford, Texas, 
and James W. Opelt of Hammondsport.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the 
Pulteney Presbyterian Church the Rev. Kenneth Hickey 
officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Corning. 
Arrangements are by the LaMarche Funeral Home, Hammondsport.

GENEVA | Virginia L. "Ginny" Ordiway, 70, formerly of 231 
Grand St., Hornell, died Monday, March 18, 2002 at the home of 
her daughter, Julie Maglier McLaughlin.
She had owned and operated Ginny's Style Hunt in Hornell for 
several years.
Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Maglier Dodge, 
Julie Maglier McLaughlin both of Geneva, and Kathleen Maglier 
Smith of Hornell; a sister, Barbara Cregan of Hornell.

Clifford H.  Osgood 
WELLSBORO, Pa. | Clifford H. Osgood, 89, of Elkland, formerly 
of Lawrenceville, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002 at Broad Acres 
Nursing Home.
He had worked for North Penn Gas Co. as a station operator. He 
was also a farmer and a Raweigh Products dealer.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Mack of Elkland.

Inc., 214 Main St., Elkland.
Services will be held there at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Robert

WELLSVILLE | Henrietta Osterhout, 96, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 
2002 at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Filley of Adams and 
Suzanne Babbitt of Canisteo, and two sons, Donald Osterhout of 
Ogden, Utah, and John Osterhout of Los Gatos, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the 
family.

LYNCHBURG, VA. | Doris Parry Middaugh Overman, 78, of 
Lynchburg, formerly of Campbell, N.Y., died Monday, July 29, 
2002 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
She had been a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Clarkson Overman; two 
daughters, Nancy Chiminello of Huddleston and Cindy Plewinski 
of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Mark Middaugh of Waverly, N.Y.; two 
stepsons, Thomas Clarkson Overman III of Woodbridge and Robert 
Howard Overman of Vienna, Ohio; a sister, Marion Beach of 
Corning, N.Y.
Services were held Wednesday at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian 
Church, the Rev. Corey Ingold and Rev. Raymond Eichler

WELLSBORO, Pa. | Jack L. Owen, 79, of Fellows Avenue, died 
Tuesday, March 5, 2002.
He was retired from the Wellsboro School District.

He was a corrections officer at the Elmira Correctional 
Facility.

Va., and Christine Keough of Elmira; two sons, William Malin 
and Matthew Malin, both of Corning; his parents, Roy W. and

years of service.

died Wednes-day, June 12, 2002 at the Cole Memorial Hospital.
She had been a house-parent in a Potter County group home for 
several years.

a son, Sherman Palmer of Gaines; two brothers, Harold Jones of 
Cowanesque and Walter Jones of Harrison Valley; two sisters,

HORNELL | Gertrude E. Palmer, 91, formerly of 91 Main St., 
Almond, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Hornell Gardens, 
where she lived for the past nine years.
She was a retired cafeteria worker in the Alfred-Almond school 
district. She and her husband, Elbert, owned and operated 
Palmer Sporting Goods in Almond for many years.
Survivors include a son, Ben Palmer of Almond, one sister, 
Ellen Bordeaux of Almond.

BATH | John L. Palmer, 83, of County Route 87, Hammondsport, 
died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 at the Bath Veterans 
Administra-tion Medical Center.
He was a machine operator for Mercury Aircraft Inc. in 
Hammondsport.
Survivors include one son, John C. Palmer of Hammondsport; one 
daughter, Diana J. Kaufman of Bath; one stepbrother, Albert 
Bates of Bath; two stepsisters, Norma O'Brian and Katherine 
Russell, both of Bath.

He owned and operated Seneca Electric Motors.

He was a retired mechanic.

12, 2002 at home.
She had worked for Loohns Cleaners in Hornell, the former 
Market Basket Grocery Store in Hornell also she was a school 
bus driver, cafeteria monitor and cashier at Jasper Central 
School for 21 years retiring in 1989 and managed the Pick & 
Poke Shop in Jasper for 12 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Connie Welty of Rexville, 
Terri Paddock of Hornell and Teresa Rodgers of Bloomfield; a 
brother Richard Mehlenbacher of Gorham.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the H.P. Smith 
& Son, Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St., Canisteo.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Friday the Rev. Brain 
Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, 
Canisteo.
