He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W.II.

Booker of Gladstone, Va.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity 
Episcopal Church, 304 North Main St., Elmira, the Rev. William 
Lutz officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Richard Jenkins
ELMIRA | Richard "Dick" Jenkins, 83, of Hendy Creek Road, Pine 
City, died Thursday, June 13, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical 
Center following a brief illness.
He was employed with Bendix for more than 37 years as a layout 
inspector.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Alyene Kehoe Jenkins 
of Pine City; four sons, David Jenkins, Richard Jenkins, Lyle 
Wheeler, and Ray Davies; two daughters, Sandy Ackerman and 
Ruth Pipher; two brothers, James Jenkins and Daniel Jenkins; 
one sister, Clairbel Felko.
Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Monday at Caywood's Funeral Home & 
Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport.
Services will be held there at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Dean 
HIll officiating. Burial with military honors will be in 
Fitzsimmons Cemetery, Southport.



Solon F. Jenkins 
WELLSBORO, PA. | Solon F. Jenkins, 83, of 151 Stevenson St., 
Westfield, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Soldiers & Sailors 
Memorial Hospital.
He had worked at the Elkland Leather Company of over 20 years 
and for Portville Forest Products & Arbor-Tech in Little 
Marsh.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth Jenkins; 
three stepdaughters, Anna Kline of Bath, N.Y., Dorothy 
Burnside of Elmira, N.Y., and Laura Outman of Whitesville, 
N.Y.; a stepson, Duane Stocum of Wellsboro. Services will be 
held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kenyon Funeral Home Inc., 222 W. 
Main St., Westfield, the Rev. John Hart officiating. Burial 
will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens, Charleston Township.

CORNING | Dorothy Elizabeth Jewell, 91, of Victory Village, 
Painted Post, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Neil E. Jewell; a 
daughter, Lila Mattison of Corning.

Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at home.
He was a former employee of Tyler Fire Equipment Co. and 
former production manager for ABB.

Bennett; one daughter, Heather Bennett; one son, Dylan 
Bennett; one sister, Margo Stuart of Corning; two brothers, 
James Bennett of Corning and Justin Bennett of Sulphur, La.

Home.
She had been an inspector for Phillips-Westinghouse in Bath, 
N.Y.

N.Y., Terry L. Johnson of Sabinsville and Steve A. Johnson of 
Wilkes Barre; two daughters, Carol L. Kohler of Knoxville and

Hornell, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at the Bath Veterans 
Affairs Medical Center.
He was employed by the Steuben Theater, Majestic Theater, 
Hornell Drive-in, Friendship Dairy and Crowley Dairy.
Survivors include five sons, Lester Johnson Jr. of Hornell, 
Daniel Johnson Sr. of Elmira, George Johnson of Andover, Kevin 
Johnson of Hornell and Rickie Johnson of Lisbon, Ohio; a 
daughter, Karen Button of Hornell; two stepsons, David 
Casterline of Pennsylvania and Phillip John Casterline of 
Hornell.

Elkland, died Friday, March 1, 2002 at home.
He was retired from Ingersoll-Rand and had worked for the 
Elkland Leather Company.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Watkins of Westfield; and 
a son, James Johnson of Elkland; a brother, Roy Johnson of 
Elkland and a sister, Olive Thomas of Elkland.

CORNING | Rose Marie Johnston, 97, died Saturday, July 20, 
2002 at Founders Pavilion.
She had been a clerk at Corning Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Johnston Burr of 
Ballwin, Mo., and Kathryn Johnston Massar of Yuba City, 
Calif.; a son, Thomas Franklin Johnston of Eustis, Fla.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the 
family. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Corning.

BATH | Nancy R. Jones, 90, of 7190 Route 54, died Sunday, May 
5, 2002 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital. 
She and her husband operated family farms and Jones Lumber Co.
Survivors include three sons, Robert W. Jones and Richard 
Jones, both of Bath, and H. Douglas Jones of Worthington, 
Ohio; one daughter, Mary Learn of Bath; one brother, Donald 
Card of Corning.

died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at St. James Hospital.
She had worked at the former Wilkinson's Ben Franklin Store in 
Canisteo and as a personnel supervisor for the former Big N in 
Hornell.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Jones; two daughters, Donna 
Morse of Hornell and Diana Parulski of Bath.

Wellsboro, Pa., died Tuesday, July 23, 2002.
He had been a retired dairy farmer.

He had worked at Elmira Savings and Loan for 43 years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marian Joralemon; one 
sister, Doris Barrows of Rochester.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First 
Presbyterian Church, 2943 Westinghouse Rd., Horseheads, the 
Rev. Walter D. Funk officiating. Burial with military honors

Elmira and Horseheads, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at the 
Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Diane Swarthout of Elmira; one stepson, Edwin B. Ober of Bath; 
three stepdaughters, Amanda Wallner of Guilford, Conn., Abbie 
Bernard of Long Island, and Caroline Barkley of Prospect, Va.; 
one sister, Mary Preston of Littleton, Colo.
He was a second-generation proprietor of Armen's Texas Hots.

Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.
She had worked for the Murray Biscuit Company and was a home 
health care aide.

Clifford Martin of Grovetown; a sister, Shirley Hooper of 
Grovetown; two sons, Frank Justice of Painted Post, N.Y., and 
John Justice of Blythe; a daughter, Yvonne Justice, West Palm 
Beach, Fla.
A graveside service was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

WAVERLY | Frank J. Kabes, 93, formerly of Wilawana Road, 
Elmira, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002 at Tioga Nursing 
Facility.
He had operated his own farm for several years before 
retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Yelick Kabes, of West 
Henrietta; three daughters, Jean Boyd of Burton, S.C., Carol 
Hopkins, of Port Richey, Fla., and Mary Anders, of West 
Henrietta; four sons, Robert Kabes, of Rochester, Tom Kabes, 
of Mt. Olive, N.C., Donald Kabes, of Rush and Fran Kabes, of 
Litchfield, Pa.; a brother, Ralph Kabes, of Elmira.

County Health Care Facility.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Lawrence Kame; two 
daughters, Tracy Wagoner of Harrisburg, N.C., and Lori 
FitzGerald of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Reba Mahany of 
Arkport and Rita Smith of Middleport.

She had been a home health care nurse.
Survivors include a sister, Anne Baker of New Mexico; two 
brothers, Anthony Doleski and John Doleski both of Elkland.
A memorial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas 
Catholic Church, Elkland, the Rev. Francis Erb officiating. 
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Elkland. Arrangements are

for Covered Wagon Tours in Hornell.

Kelly and Doreen Bonomo, both of Corning, and Janeen Kelly of

He had been a biochemist for ArQuyle in Woburn.

home.
She had been a secretary for various positions in Corning 
including Frank H. Ferris, Esq; Board of Public Works; Gorsey 
B. Hubbard, Esq; McCarty's Insurance; Sullivan Park Research 
and Development, Corning, Inc.
Survivors include a brother, Melvin John Kenney; a sister, 
Ruth Ann Kennedy.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Chapel 
Knoll Cemetery.

Stacy Lee Kent
MILTON, W.VA. | Stacy Lee Lyman Kent, 35, of Milton, formerly 
of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 at 
Putman General Hospital.
She had been a self-employed insurance consultant.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Lauren Kent and 
Amber Kristine Kent, both of Glenwood, W.Va.; her mother, Kay 
C. Lyman of Mansfield, Pa., and her father, Donald A. Lyman of 
Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; a brother, Jeffery L. Lyman of 
Columbia, Md.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at 
Mainesburg United Methodist Church, the Rev. Howard Woodruff

Maude  Kernan 
BATH | Maude Kernan, 99, of the Steuben County Health Care 
Facility, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at her residence.
She was a retired restaurant cook in Hornell.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Flinn of Annapolis, Md.; 
two sons, John L. Kernan of Alfred Station and William J. 
Kernan of Hornell; a sister, Betty Greenfield of Canisteo.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the 
convenience of the family. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery 
in Canisteo.



Douglas L.  Kerr Sr.
ROCHESTER | Douglas L. Kerr Sr., 79, of 27 Spruce St., 
Hornell, died Monday, June 10, 2002 at Monroe Community 
Hospital.
He was a machinist for Chapmans and Conrail.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Hammond of Avon; three 
sons, Douglas Kerr Jr. of Altoona, Pa., Thomas Kerr of 
Greenwood, Ind., and Roger Kerr of Brockport.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the 
Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Alan 
Howe officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.

BATH | Burton Keith Ketch, 75, of Sabin's Home, Avoca, died 
Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Ira Davenport Hospital.
He was a retired farm laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Ketch of Corning; two 
daughters, Dianne Ketch and Rebecca Ketch, both of Corning; 
three brothers, Wayne Ketch of Bath, Clair Ketch of 
Alexandria, Va., and Bruce Ketch of Virginia; two sisters, 
Emma Jean Watkins of Brandon, Fla., and Karol Lynn Wilkewitz 
of Springfield, Ill.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Flint Funeral 
Home, 10 Wall St., Addison.
Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be 
in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport.



Edward T.  Ketchum
BOISE, IDAHO | Edward T. Ketchum, 70, of Eagle, a Corning 
native, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 in a Boise hospital.
He had been a supervisor in the recruiting office of the Air 
Force, retiring in 1971, and worked for the U.S. Forest 
Service in Cascade.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Ketchum of Boise; three 
sons, Edward Ketchum of Eagle, Clark Ketchum and Kenneth 
Ketchum, both of Boise; three brothers, Ralph Ketchum, Kenneth 
Ketchum and Irvin Ketchum.
Services were held at St. Michael's Episcopal Cathedral, 
Boise. Burial was in Morris Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were 
by Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave., Boise.
