Horseheads, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Arnot Ogden 
Hospital.
She retired from Horseheads High School in 1978 where she 
worked in the cafeteria for 20 years.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Donald R. Gorton; 
two daughters, Marilyn Smith of Florien, La., and Bonnie 
Johnson of Springfield, Va.; a son, Kenneth Gorton of 
Pittsburgh, Pa.
Calling hours are 5-8 p.m. Friday at Barber Funeral Home, 413 
S. Main St., Horseheads. 
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Grace Church 
of the Nazarene, 431 Wygant Road, Horseheads, the Rev. Robert 
Clark officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.



Ann Thompson Yakubik  Gray
ELMIRA | Ann Thompson Yakubik Gray, 68, of South Avenue, 
Horseheads, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden 
Medical Center in Elmira.
She worked in nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading, 
Pa., Bethany Retirement Center and the Arnot Ogden Medical 
Center.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Charles F. Gray of 
Horseheads; three sons, Glenn G. Thompson of Elmira, Terry 
Thompson of Elmira, Jeff Gray of Horseheads; four sisters, 
Mary Piacente of Hazleton, Pa., Susan Dixon of Horseheads, 
Eleanor Amspaugh of Horseheads, Cathy Yalch of Hazleton, Pa.; 
a brother, John Yakubik of Hazleton, Pa.
Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Barber 
Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads.
Services will be held there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will 
be in Maple Grove Cemetery.



Alexander  Green Sr. 
ELMIRA | Alexander Green Sr., 84, of 316 Washington St., died 
July 15, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He retired from the former A&P Plant.
Survivors include a son, Alexander Jr. Green of Elmira; two 
daughters, Donna Kay Mobley of Newark, Del., and Rickie David 
of Elmira.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at Kalec Funeral

Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be 
in Woodlawn Cemetery.

ORSEHEADS | Clayton F. Green, 87, of West Water Street Ext., 
Painted Post, died Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Elcor Health 
Services. 
He was retired from Corning Glass Works.
Survivors include his wife Eva; daughters Phyllis Crook of 
Corning, Sylvia Jimerson of Kentucky and Carol Bahr of 
Tennessee; sons the Rev. C. Herald Green of Illinois, Kenneth 
Green of Horseheads and Charles Green of Akron; sister Gladys 
Bliss of Dundee; brother Charles Green of Painted Post.

held there Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Goodsell Cemetery in Hornby.

LINDLEY | Sherrill Kaye Gridley, 62, of Sagetown Road, died 
Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at home.
She was a sales associate at Wal-Mart.
Survivors include, her husband Theron N. Gridley of Lindley; a 
daughter, Lynda Reep of Caton; a son, Dale Gridley of Caton; a 
sister, Bonnie Kasper of Venice Fla.; two step-sisters, 
Marlene Loveland of Pine City and Carol Paul Taladay of

Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
She had been a secretary at Corning Inc., retiring in 1972 
with over 25 years of service.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, William Griffin; a 
son, Douglas Griffin of Corning; two sisters, Anna Chudunic of 
Corning and Suzanne Malnic of Columbia, S.C.

Howard L.  Griffis
SUSQUEHANNA, PA. | Howard L. Griffis, 93, of Grand Street, 
died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at the Barnes Kasson Hospital.
He was retired from Pennsylvania Electric Co.
Survivors include a son, Myron Griffis of Montrose; two 
daughters, Judith Barron of Lindley, N.Y., and Sally Robb of 
Vestal, N.Y.; a sister, Beulah Decker of Brushville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Brushville 
Baptist Church, Brushville, the Rev. Terry Jenks officiating. 
Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Brushville.

HORNELL | Kathleen M. "Kay" Griffith, 69, of 34 Pine St., died 
Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at St. James Hospital. 
She had been employed with the housekeeping department at St. 
James Hospital.

Kathy DeKay of Cameron; four sons, Robert Stillman of Canisteo 
and James Stillman, John Griffith and Tim Griffith, all of 
Hornell; one sister, Helen Benedetto of Brooklyn.

Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002 at Founders Pavilion in Corning.

two sons, John Grimmke of Dunee, Willy Grimmke of Roswell, Ga.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Tyrone United 
Methodist Church and at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Somers 
in the spring of 2003. Burial will be in Ivandale Cemetery, 
Somers.

Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at home.
Survivors include her husband, John Grover of Alpine; two

Fellwock and Lisa Robinson; two sisters, Mary-Ellen Terry and 
Donna-Lyn Decker.

Ulysses, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, in Arnot Ogden 
Medical Center.
She was a former employee of Galeton Production.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph T. Grover; two sons, 
Marvin Grover of Genesee, Pa., and John Grover of 
Shippensburg, Pa.; a daughter, Rebecca Sue Johnson, of Lock 
Haven, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy Burkhouse of Napanoch and 
Frances DeLappa of Elmira.

COUDERSPORT, PA. | Genevieve A. Guilds, 76, of Westfield, died 
Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 at Charles Cole Hospital.
She had been a cook at Westfield Elementary School for many 
years.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond Calkins and Robert 
Guilds both of Westfield and Richard Guilds of Sabinsville; a 
daughter, Rebecca Coulter of Mineral Springs; two brothers, 
John Mann of Mills and Clifford Mann of Addison, N.Y.; a

ROCHESTER | Eleanor Louise Gulliver, 81, of Wesley On East 
Nursing Home, formerly of South Corning, died Wednesday, April 
24, 2002 at Highland Hospital.
She owned and operated Gulliver Construction with her husband 
in South Corning.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Hendershot of Rochester; a 
son, Daniel Gulliver of Lake Forrest, Ill; a sister, Cynthia 
Nichols of Cassadaga; a brother, Willis Ford Jr. of Painted 
Post.

Ronald J.  Gunderman
WELLSBURG | Ronald J. "Cooper" Gunderman, 71, of 130 Main St., 
died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 after a long disease.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and also employed by the Elmira 
School District for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Glenora Gunderman; two 
sons, Daniel Gunderman of Hudson and Darryl Gunderman of 
Lowman; four sisters, Inez Barchet, Joan Roman, and Lois 
Drake, all of Elmira, Dorothy Semko of Las Vegas, Nev.; a 
brother, Harold Gunderman of Elmira.

Road, died Monday, March 18, 2002.
He retired from Kennedy Valve in 1989 after 40 years of 
service.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen Fesetch 
Gunderman; a son, Richard Gunderman Sr.; a daughter, Donna 
Kapnolas; four sisters, Inez Barchet, Lois Drake, Dorothy 
Semko and Joan Roman; two brothers, Ronald Gunderman and 
Harold Gunderman.

Maynard W.  Gurnsey Jr.
HORSEHEADS | Maynard W. "Duke" Gurnsey Jr., 64, of 538 Elmer 
Ave., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 after an extended illness.
He was the owner of Continental Baking in Elmira.
Survivors include two sons, Maynard W. "Rex" Gurnsey III of 
Horseheads and Martin Gurnsey of Marysville, Ohio; one 
daughter, Deborah Violante of Grover Beach, Calif.; one 
brother, David Gurnsey of Florida.

He had been a mechanic for the Corning City School District, 
retiring with 23 years of service.

Rochester; a sister, Lucille Rice of Rincon, Puerto Rico.

He had worked for over 25 years at Travelers Insurance.

He was a former employee of Bath Gas & Electric and a radiator 
repairman.

with 41 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche; three daughters, Patricia

Shirlee Clark of Corning; three sons, Robert Halm of Painted 
Post, Sala Halm of Sun City Center, Fla., and Richard Halm of 
Coopers Plains; a brother, George Halm of Coopers Plains.

BATH | Leo Fred Halm, 96, formerly of Mill Street, Coopers 
Plains, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at the Fred and Harriett 
Taylor Health Center in Bath.
Survivors include his wife Blanche Halm of Coopers Plains; six 
children, Sala Halm of Sun City Center, Fla., Patricia Bullock 
of Carson City, Nev., Janet Halm-Coccho of Corning, Shirlee 
Clark of Corning, Robert Halm of Painted Post, Richard Halm of 
Coopers Plains; a brother, George Halm of Coopers Plains.

GREENWOOD | Edward W. Halsey, 74, died Friday, April 19, 2002 
at his home.
He worked as a welder for Air PreHeater of Wellsville and 
Joyce Pipeline of Andover, and as a truck driver for Southern 
Tier Pallet Co.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Halsey; a son, Edward W. 
Halsey, Jr. of Andover; three daughters, Judy Mitchell of 
Avoca, Darlene Hink of Greenwood, and Debra Woodwoth of 
Wayland; four step-sons, Robert Malesinski and Jesse Reid, 
both of North Carolina, Daniel Malesinski of South Carolina, 
and Joshua Morgan of Greenwood; three step-daughters, Kimberly

He had worked at several local construction contractors, 
including McCarty Cabs. He operated Halye's Garage in Gang 
Mills, retiring in 1997.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Lois Halye; two sons, 
Ivan Dale Halye and Shawn Halye, both at home; a daughter, 
Penny Comfort of Carolina Beach, N.C.; three brothers, James 
Halye of Hamburg, Pa., Timothy Halye of New Columbia, Pa., and

two nephews, David Hanley of Stanley and Robert Hanley of 
Geneva.

Thomas F.  Hanley 
WILMINGTON, N.C. | Thomas F. Hanley, 93, died Sunday, June 30, 
2002 at the Autumn Care Nursing Home.
He retired from Corning Inc. as a quality control manager with 
43 years of service.

Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at noon Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, 
Corning, N.Y.



Paul A.  Hardenstine
CORNING | Paul A. Hardenstine of 534 Schuyler Ave., Elmira, 
died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at home.
He had been a farmer and a machinist and foreman for Trayer 
Products.
Survivors include one daughter, Arleah Fitch of Tuscon, Ariz.; 
one son, Paul Hardenstine of Athens, Pa.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Caywood's 
Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport. 
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Fassett Baptist 
Church, the Rev. Donald Rockwell officiating. Burial will be 
in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira.



Todd W. Hargrave 
CAMERON | Todd W. Hargrave, 39, of 5453 County Route 119 died 
May 2, 2002 in a car accident.
Survivors include a daughter, Cassandra Hargrave; twin sons, 
Todd W. II and Craig M. Hargrave all of Florida; his mother 
Gladys M. Hargrave of Addison; two brothers, Thomas W. 
Hargrave of Addison, Timothy W. Hargrave of Cameron Mills; 
five sisters, Dawn Reagan of Wellsville, Deborah Hoad of 
Cameron Mills, Terri Farrand of Woodhull, Tina Stewart of 
Woodhull and Tammy Dunn of Addison. 
Calling hours will be today from 11 a.m.-1p.m. at the Flint 
Funeral Home, 10 Wall St., Addison.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 1 p.m. with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial 
will be at Hedgesville Cemetery.
