Survivors include one son, William R. Brown Jr. of Wayne; one 
daughter, Wendy A. O'Brien of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; one sister, 
Dorothy Swoope of New South Wales, Australia; one brother, 
Robert Dowdall of Emporia, Kan.

Friday, March 15, 2002 at Corning Hospital.

of Centerville, Ohio.

died Friday, March 15, 2002 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial

He worked for more than 35 years for the Elkland Leather 
Company.

daughters, Rosemary Hackett and Nancy Grapevine, both of

WELLSBORO, PA. | Walter H. Brugger, 92, of Westfield, died 
Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at Green Home. 
He was a partner in the Brugger & Crandall Garage in Westfield 
for 23 years. He was also employed by the U.S. Post Office as 
a substitute rural mail carrier. 
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Leola Stump Brugger; a 
sister, Lillian Watkins of Little Marsh; two brothers, Frank 
Brugger and Theodore Brugger, both of Turlock, Calif.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Westfield 
United Methodist Church, the Rev. Dr. James F. Bellamy and 
Rev. Donald Stump officiating. Burial will be in Champlin 
Cemetery, Westfield.

Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002.
He had been an engineer for Corning Inc. in the melting 
research and development department before retiring in 1986 as 
manager, thermal process design and development and 
engineering fellow.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jean Bruns; a

She had been employed at Joe's Catering and Hillside

Sorbus Computers, and Brandon Schools.
Survivors include two daughters, Brianna D. Buinicki, of 
Corning, and Alina M.L. Buinicki, of Corning; her father

She taught music for 44 years in Erie, Pa., and Wellsboro, Pa.

Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 at home after a long 
illness.

Bunde; three daughters, Elizabeth Bunde, Jennifer Bunde, and 
Linda Bunde-Stafford; her mother, Lillian Malheim of Spencer;

She was a long-term elementary and music substitute teacher 
for the Spencer-Van Etten School District.

Gaines, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at Cole Memorial

She had owned and operated dairy farms with her husband, 
Lamont, in Susquehanna and Knoxville.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Burchell of Gaines; a 
daughter, Bernice Slocum of Binghamton, N.Y.

died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at McAuley Manor.
She had worked for several years with the Green Thumb Program 
at the N.Y.S. Veterans Service Agency in Hornell, the Cancer 
Society in Hornell, Wildwood B.O.C.E.S. Campus in Hornell, the 
cafeteria for many years at Arkport Central School and also as 
a teacher's aide at Arkport Central School.
Survivors include six sons, Francis Burley and Neal Burley, 
both of Arkport, Dale Burley of Canisteo, Duane Burley of 
Newark, Del., Alan Burley of Bath and Calvin Burley of 
Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Arlene Alexander of Arkport; a 
sister, Vera Mitchell of Canisteo.

was a guitarist.

Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at home.
She had been a math and science teacher for the Northern Tioga 
School District, retiring in 1984.
Survivors include her husband, David J. Burt; a daughter, 
Jackie VanDerwark of Sayre; a brother, Joseph S. King Jr. of 
Nampa, Idaho; a sister, Emma Casbeer of York.

WELLSBORO, PA. | Anne K. Butler, 89, died Saturday, April 27, 
2002 at the Green Home in Wellsboro.
She was a founding physician of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial 
Hospital in Wellsboro and worked there until retiring in 1984 
She was also medical director at the Green Home until 1992.
Survivors include, a daughter; Ellen B. Kearns of Willingboro, 
N.J.; a son, Terence C. Butler of Athens.

He was a heavy equipment operator and tractor trailer driver.

of Elmira Heights.

John Cadek of York, Pa.; one daughter, Linda Peckally of 
Elmira; one sister, Edith Green of Elmira.

Hornell for 25 years.

years, gaffer at Corning Inc. for 19 years, part-time police 
(peace) officer and constable for Elkland Boro and part-time 
employee for Kenyon Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Josephine May Baker Calvario; three 
sons, Charles Chamberlain and Vincent J. Calvario both of 
Elkland and Michael Chamberlain of Wellsboro; a daughter, 
Sarah Kerrick of Elkland; a brother, Lawrence Calvario of

Virginia G. Canfield 
HORSEHEADS | Virginia G. Canfield, Corning Glass Works 
Retiree, age 73 of Fletcher Street, Horseheads went home to be 
with her Lord, Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at her son's home 
on Orchard Street where she was loved and cared for during her 
illness.
She was born November 19, 1928 in Wilmington, NC the daughter 
of the late Martin and Mamie (Odum) Koen. On January 21, 1945 
Virginia married Clair K. Canfield in South Carolina. They 
have celebrated 57 wonderful years of life and love together.
Her survivors include: loving husband, Clair; beloved sons, 
Terry K. (Pon) Canfield of Horseheads, NY, Dean Canfield of 
Bath, NY and Brian (Janet) Canfield of Elmira, NY; daughters, 
Celeste Canfield and Amber Canfield of Elmira, NY; 
grandchildren, George (Jessica) Canfield of Horseheads, NY, 
Julie Canfield of Brooklyn, NY, Mathew Canfield of Horseheads, 
NY, Celeste Canfield, Abraham Canfield and Amber Canfield all 
of Elmira, NY; great grandsons, Nathaniel Canfield and Aaron 
Canfield of Horseheads, NY; brothers, William M. (Odessa) Koen 
of Wellsburg, NY, Johnny (Verna) Koen of Wilmington, NC, Jesse 
Koen of High Springs, FL; sisters, Mary (Louis) Rogers of High 
Springs, FL, Shirley (Darrell) Anglehart of Gibbonsville, NC; 
along with several nieces and nephews. 
Her brother, Bobby Koen and her precious grandson, Andrew 
Canfield predeceased Virginia.
Mrs. Canfield retired from Corning Glass Works with a total of 
56 years of service. For 38 years she was an inspector in the 
operative department and for the last 18 years has enjoyed 
continuous retirement. In 1996 she received her 50-year pin 
from Corning Glass Works for her faithful and dedicated 
service. She was a member of the Rebecca's Lodge #91 in 
Corning for several years. Virginia was a member of the Elmira 
Christian Center and was involved in the Sunday School. Her 
greatest joy came working in the nursery with the newborns.

September 12, 2002 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will
