She retired in 1984 from Corning Glass Works in the accounting 
department with 30 years of service.

Flora B.  Baldwin 
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIF. | Flora Blanche Baldwin, 75, of 
San Juan Capistrano, formerly of Millerton, Pa., died Sunday, 
Sept. 22, 2002 at home. 
She had been a registered nurse for more than 40 years.
Survivors include two sons, Brian David Baldwin of Corona and 
Thomas Gerald Baldwin of Laguna Niguel; one daughter, Sharon 
Partridge of Visalia; one brother, Francis Russo; three 
sisters, Dora Harch, Gloria Russo, and Rose Cacace.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Serra Chapel, 
Mission San Juan Capistrano. Burial will be in Ascension 
Cemetery, Lake Forest.
Arrangements are by the Lesneski Mortuary, San Clemente.

CORNING | Joseph L. "Chic" Bamonti, 85, of 381 W. First St., 
died Friday, May 10, 2002 at home following an extended 
illness.
He was employed with Corning Inc. as a glass mechanic 
supervising the production department.
Survivors include one son, Philip Bamonti of Painted Post; 
four daughters, Joann Bamonti of Corning, Mary Walsh of 
Webster, Roberta Hopkins of Rochester, and Margaret Buscaglia 
of Buffalo; one sister, Sally Madigan of Rochester; one 
brother, Lou Ferraro of Las Vegas, Nev.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Haughey 
Funeral Home, 216 E. First St.
Prayers services will be held there at 11 a.m. Monday followed 
by a mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. 
Mary's Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. 
Mary's Cemetery.

BATH | Ruth E. Towner Bancroft, 88, of Green Acres Court, died 
Thursday, March 14, 2002 at Davenport and Taylor Health Care 
Center.
She had been a nurse at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital.

CORNING | Laura M. Barner, 59 of Corning, died Monday, Feb. 
18, 2002 at Founders Pavilion.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Thomas K. Barner; 
two sons, Tim Barner of Corning and David Barner of 
Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Darlene Barner of Corning; a 
sister Debra Kimball of North Carolina; a brother, Louie 
Luevanos of Philadelphia, Pa.

COUDERSPORT, Pa. | George F. Barr, 84, of Westfield died 
Saturday, April 27, 2002 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital.
He had worked for more than 25 years at the Chevrolet 
manufacturing facility in Buffalo, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Lovell Barr.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Kenyon 
Funeral Home, 222 West Main Street, Westfield, the Rev. Dr. 
James F. Bellamy officiating. Burial will be in Riverview 
Cemetery, Potterbrook.



William  Barrett 
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. | William Barrett, 84, a former 
administrator in the Corning-Painted Post school district and 
late of North Palm Beach, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, of 
complications from a stroke at Good Samaritan Medical Center 
in West Palm Beach.
A teacher, coach and summer school principal at the former 
Northside High School in Corning, N.Y., he retired from the 
Corning school district in 1974 as director of special 
projects.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Barrett; a son, William 
Barrett Jr.; a daughter, Judy Dixson.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the 
family. The Howard Funeral Home of West Palm Beach is handling 
the arrangements.

COOPERS PLAINS | Shirley S. Barringer, 70, of 9187 Main St., 
died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at home.
She had been a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Charles D. Barringer of Coopers 
Plains.

formerly of Horseheads, N.Y., died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002.
He retired from the Village of Horseheads, where he worked in 
the Streets and Water Department.

two daughters, Pam Lindsay and Cindy Barry, both of Newark; 
two sisters, Helen Taylor of Redwood City, Calif., and

She owned and operated a farm for many years with her late 
husband.

Ariz.

GALETON, PA. | William E. Bassney, 90, of Wasilla, Ark., 
formerly of Galeton, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002.
He was a former employee of Ingersoll-Rand in Painted Post, 
N.Y.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Bassney of Lodi, Wis. and 
Peter Bassney of Wasilla, Ark.; two daughters, Joan Whitehead 
of Atlantic Mine, Mich. and Cathy Paul of Galeton.

Bibiana Church, Galeton.

HORNELL | Leonard F. Batchelder Jr., 72, of Arkport died 
Friday, March 8, 2002 at Hornell Gardens.
He had been employed at Foster Wheeler Energy Corp., 
Dansville.

of Campbell, N.Y., died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002 at Southeast 
Georgia Regional Medical Center.
He was retired from Glynn Drywall.

formerly of Kanona, N.Y., died Saturday, May 25, 2002.
He had been a supervisor cook at the Bath Veterans 
Administration Medical Center in Bath, N.Y., for 30 years and 
an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Wanda Bauter of North

years.

She was a retired teachers aide for the Corning-Painted Post 
School District.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Arden; three 
daughters, Linda Riviello of Canton, Mich., Carol Fogarty and 
Julie Beck, both of Corning; a brother, Joseph Shine Jr. of

Qudrat Ahmed, all of the United States, and four other 
children who live outside the country.
Graveside services were held in the Nondaga Cemetery in Bath 
July 6, 2002 under the direction of Caywood's Funeral Home & 
Gardens, Southport.

2002 at Noyes Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Fazil Khaja, Laeeq Javeed, and 
Oudrat Ahmed, all who live in the United States; four other 
children who live outside of the country.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Nondaga Cemetery in 
Bath.

June 5, 2002 at the Bath VA Medical Center.
He retired in 1992 from Buffalo State University.

Buffalo; two sons, George Beland of West Almond and Sean

with her late husband.

He was a licensed pharmacist and worked at Eckers and later at 
Eckerds Pharmacy on Market Street.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Wilson Benjamin; his 
father and stepmother, Warren and Martha Benjamin of Big 
Flats; three brothers, Jay Benjamin of Red Hook, Mark Benjamin 
of Rochester, and Matthew Benjamin of Grand Prairie, Texas.

June 18, 2002 at Robert Packer Hospital.
He had worked for Corning Inc. as an accountant.

Brinks; one son, Robert J. Brinks of Elmira; one daughter, 
Kathleen A. Brinks of Clermont, Fla.; one brother, William 
Brinks of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Kaper of Grand 
Junction, Colo. and Mary Teerman of Eustis, Fla.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First 
Presbyterian Church in Painted Post, the Rev. Steve Sibson 
officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery.

Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial

WELLSBORO, PA. | Aileen I. Brooks, 91, of Park Hill Manor, 
died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Broad Acres Health and 
Rehabilitation Center.
She had worked for 10 years for Corning Glass Works Plant in 
Wellsboro.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Mosher of Tioga and Harold 
J. Mosher of North Port, Fla.; a brother, Leonard Campman of 
Wellsboro; a sister Elizabeth Fuller of Wellsboro.

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002.
Survivors include his parents, Ed and Patricia "Cookie" Brown

grandfather, Ralph Brown of Canandaigua.

Harry D.  Brown
WELLSBORO, PA. | Harry D. "Brownie" Brown, 58, of Tioga, died 
Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial 
Hospital.
He was a machinist at Corning Inc. He also served in the 
United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Betty Brown; one son, 
Jim Brown of Tioga; one daughter, Marion Brundage of Belfast, 
N.Y.; three brothers, Harold Brown of Painted Post, N.Y., 
Robert Brown of Cuba, N.Y., and Clayton Dyke of Millerton.
Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at 
the Gary Wilston Funeral Home, Mansfield.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 11 a.m., the Rev. Harry Colegrove officiating. Burial will

ROCK STREAM | Kenneth W. Brown, 63, of Rock Stream died 
Friday, April 5, 2002, at his home.
He was one of the owners of Ken and Barb's Lakeview Inn on 
state Route 14.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara L. Brown; a son, Scott K. 
Brown of Lakemont; two daughters, Sandra K. Brown-Fultz of 
Luthersburg, Pa., and Shareen K. Moore of Watkins Glen; three 
brothers, James Brown of Covington, Pa., Roger Brown of Rome, 
Pa., and William Brown of Dundee.
There will be no calling hours.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lakemont 
Congregational Christian Church, Lakemont-Himrod Road, 
Lakemont, the Revs. Albert Stuart and Dale Eby officiating. 
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee, is handling the 
arrangements.

ELMIRA | Maria N. Brown, 81, of Pine Valley, formerly of 
Elmira Heights, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Arnot Ogden 
Medical Center.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of over 60 years, Lawson Brown; 
a daughter, Nina Kilgus of Angleton, Texas; two sons, Thomas 
L. Brown and Ray Brown both of Elmira.
