CORNING | June A. Ridgway age 84 of Day Spring Apts. in 
Corning, NY, formerly of Plainsboro, NJ, passed away May 20, 
2002 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. June was born in 
Hopewell, NJ on April 20, 1918, daughter of Simpson S. and 
Ethel E. Yantz Agin Jr. She had been an active member in the 
Plainsboro Presbyterian Church in Plainsboro, NJ. In Corning, 
she was a member of RSVP and did volunteer work at Day Spring.
Surviving June is a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ronald 
Palmquist of Horseheads, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, 
Raymond C. and Dorrie Ridgway of Mill Valley, CA; four 
grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and nieces and 
nephews.
Predeceasing June were her husband, Clifford Ridgway in May of 
1990; sisters, Dorothy Quinn and Beryl Baldwin and brother 
Glen Agin.
Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Memorial Service on 
June 8 in the Brainerd Cemetery in Cranbury, NJ at 4 PM.

Albert  Rigby
LAS VEGAS, NV | Mr. Albert Rigby, formerly of Painted Post, 
died Saturday, May 4th, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV. He was born May 
22, 1915, the son of George and Lucia Rigby, in Painted Post, 
NY.
Mr. Rigby had just received his 65 year service pin from 
Corning Glass Works, where he worked as a Machinist. He was a 
long-time member of the Coopers Plains and Painted Post 
Baptist Church, and enjoyed volunteer work with Senior 
Citizens, playing his guitar, bowling, pool and horseshoes.
Albert is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Doris 
H. Clark; son, James (Alice) Rigby of Scottsdale, AZ; 
daughter, Judy (Jeffrey) Boettner of Campbell, NY; brother, 
Robert (JoAnn) Rigby of Corning, NY, 10 grandchildren, six 
great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was 
predeceased by a son, Rodney C. Rigby of Kennewick, WA in 
2001.
A memorial service was held May 9th, 2002 in Pahrump, NV, 
where he and his wife Doris had lived for the past 20 years. 
Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery at the convenience 
of the family.



Gladys M.  Rinehart 
CORNING | Gladys M. Rinehart, age 89, of Beaver Dams, passed 
away on Monday, March 18, 2002 at Corning Hospital. She was 
born on March 31, 1912 in Chatham, Pennsylvania, the daughter 
of William and Bessie Erwcery Beard. She was married to Lester 
Rinehart, whom predeceased her in 1988.
She is survived by her brothers: Elmer Beard of Odessa and 
Adelbert Beard of Farmington; sisters, Marien Beard of 
Corning, Alberta Beard-Wallas of Bath and Alice Chase of 
Campbell, and several nieces and nephews. Along with her 
husband, she was also predeceased by son, Roger Rinehart in 
1967, and sisters, Hazle and Marie.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Carpenter's 
Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St. on Friday, March 22, 2002 at 
7:00 pm. Burial will take place at Post Creek Cemetery.



Rebecca Ann Ritchie
TORONTO, CANADA | Rebecca Ann Ritchie, age 94, of Shepherd 
Lodge went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 18, 2002 
in Toronto.
Mrs. Ritchie was born August 4, 1907 in Toronto, the daughter 
of Robert and Sarah (Squires) Brown. She married Reverend 
Thomas H. Ritchie in Toronto on July 9, 1931. Becci was an 
accomplished musician who ministered with her husband.
The Ritchie Evangelistic Party was associated with the 
Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination. They traveled 
extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Great 
Britain, Sweden and Germany. Countless thousands attended 
their unusual musical program consisting of sleigh bells, hand 
bells, cord bells, cow bells and musical glasses. The 
Ritchie's retired in 1992 after more than 60 years of 
continuous service for the Lord. They had many close friends 
in the Corning area and would often spend their summers here.
Becci is survived by her husband, Thomas "T.H." Ritchie of 
Toronto, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2002 from 6-8 PM 
at Phillips Funeral Home Inc., 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, 
NY. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling 
hours at 8:00 PM with the Reverend Jesse Peace officiating. 
Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Corning, NY.

Ronald T. Robertson 
PALM BAY, FL. | Ronald T. Robertson, 53, of 1139 Prince Avenue 
N.W. (formerly of Addison) entered into rest following an 
extended illness on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at Holmes 
Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, FL.
He was born in Corning, New York, on July 18, 1948, a son of 
Elden L. and Dorothy Wheeler Robertson.
Ron graduated from Addison Central School and Corning 
Community College and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having 
served during the Vietnam War. He was a senior machine design 
engineer for Hills Inc. of West Melbourne. He formerly worked 
for North American Phillips in Bath and was a former Addison 
Police officer. . He held three patents in machine design. He 
was a licensed airplane pilot and owned his own plane.
Survived by his parents, Elden and Dorothy Robertson of 
Addison; three brothers, Randall Robertson of Cameron, Richard 
Robertson and Rodney (Valory) Robertson, both of Addison; two 
sisters, Rebecca (Mrs. David) Dyke of Syracuse and Roxanne 
(Mrs. Bruce) Dickerson of Addison; aunts, uncles, nieces and 
nephews; two great nephews.
Friends are invited to call Wednesday (Feb. 27) 2-4 and 7-9 
p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall Street, Addison, NY, 
where funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday 
at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Dyke officiating. Burial will be 
in Addison Rural Cemetery.



Chester C. Robinson Sr.
CAMPBELL | Chester C. Robinson Sr., 90, of Elcor Health 
Center, Horseheads (formerly of Campbell), entered into rest 
on Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Elcor.
He was born in Addison, New York on August 30, 1911 a son of 
Claude and Rose Symonds Robinson. He married Edna M. Taft, who 
survives.
He was a retired iron worker and a member of the United Steel 
Workers Union and the Campbell Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of Horseheads; a son, Chester 
C. Robinson, Jr. of Addison; a brother, Clayton Robinson of 
Chanute, KS; three granddaughters, Shann-on Robinson, 
Stephanie Lawson and Hailey Robinson; three grandsons, Tylor, 
Lucas and Logan Robinson; a great grandson, Dalton Lawson; 
nieces and nephews, including Rosa B. Robinson.
Friends may call Tuesday 7-8 pm at the Flint Funeral Home, 10 
Wall Street, Add-ison. Services will be at the conclusion of 
calling at 8 pm with Rev. Sandra Olmstead officiating. Burial 
will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery. 



Edna M.  Robinson 
CAMPBELL | Edna M. Robinson, 89, of Elcor Health Center, 
Horseheads (formerly of Campbell), entered into rest on 
Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Elcor.
She was born in the Town of Erwin, New York on June 7, 1913, a 
daughter of Albert and Stella Chrisler Taft. She was married 
to Chester C. Robinson, Sr., who predeceased her on June 23, 
2002.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Campbell United 
Methodist Church.
Survived by two sons, Wesley Drake of Tacoma, WA and Chester 
C. Robinson, Jr. of Addison; three granddaughters, Shannon 
Robinson, Stephanie Lawson, and Hailey Robinson; three 
grandsons, Tylor, Lucas and Logan Robinson; a great-grandson, 
Dalton Lawson; nieces and nephews, including Rosa B. Robinson.
Friends may call Monday 10-11 am at the Flint Funeral Home, 10 
Wall Street, Addison. Services will be at the conclusion of 
calling hours at 11 am, with Rev. Paul Mychack officiating. 
Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.



Helen J. Roe 
NELSON, PA | Helen J. Roe, age 73 of Marsh Road, Nelson, PA, 
passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Corning Hospital, 
Corning, NY. She was born May 30, 1928 in Corning, NY, the 
daughter of Daniel and Myrtle Edger Totten. She was a 
homemaker and a member of TOPS.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Sr. and 
Marqueen Roe of Tioga, PA, Bernard Jr. and Diane Roe of 
Nelson, PA, Stuart Sr. and Mary Roe of Lawrenceville, PA and 
Daniel Sr. and Dawn Roe of Tioga, PA; daughter, Bonnie Roe of 
Tioga, PA, 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, 
Mary Lou Collum of Millerton, PA and Ruby Manning of Corning, 
NY, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Bernard L. Roe Sr. on Oct. 5, 2000.

Ingeborg R. Romat 
ELMIRA | Ingeborg R. Romat, age 68, of Sunset Drive, 
Horseheads, NY died Monday, September 9, 2002 at St. Joseph's 
Hospital in Elmira.
Ingeborg was born in Germany on January 23, 1934, the daughter 
of the late Johann and Elsa (Hafen) Tuetsch. She was the wife 
of the late Anthony J. Romat, Jr. who preceded her in death in 
2001.
She is survived by one daughter, Dawn (LaMonte) Orr of 
Corning; one sister, Emma Geiss of Germany and two brothers, 
Hans Tuetsch and Erwin Tuetsch both of Germany; step daughter, 
Susan (Leonard III) Ostrander of Elmira; two step sons, 
Michael (Natalie) Romat of Austin, TX and David (Crystal) 
Romat of Goshen; her mother-in-law, Bertha Romat of 
Horseheads, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, several nieces 
and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at 
Phillips Funeral Home Inc., 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY 
where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM. 
Burial will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY.



David D. Ross 
PAINTED POST | David D. Ross, age 17 of 1192 Glendenning Creek 
Rd., Painted Post, NY, passed away very unexpectedly on Monday 
April 1, 2002 at home. David was born March 13, 1985 in 
Corning, NY the son of Elizabeth Boyle Ross Reed and Daniel 
Ross.
David was an outstanding student and member of the Corning - 
Painted Post West High School Lacrosse Team, the Indoor Track 
Team, and the Cross Country Team. He was a member of Boy Scout 
Troop # 2 of Corning, NY and was working toward the rank of 
Eagle Scout. David was also active with The American Red Cross 
Youth Leadership Group in Corning. David planned on attending 
West Point Military Academy upon graduation from Corning - 
Painted Post West High School.
David was pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents Richard L. 
Boyle on August 9, 1996 and Nancy E. Kendall Boyle on December 
15, 1997 as well as Julia Louise Jenks Boyle. David is also 
pre-deceased by his father Daniel Ross who passed away in 
November 2000. 
David is survived by his parents Elizabeth Boyle Ross Reed and 
Leon Reed of Painted Post, NY; sister: Jennifer L. Ross 
stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Lakeland, Texas; brother: 
Matthew C. Ross at home; paternal grandparents: Luther & 
Clarice Ross of Corning, NY and David Reed of Campbell, NY and 
Sylvia Reed of Painted Post, NY; several aunts, uncles, 
nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends including the 
remaining "Two Musketeers" Phil and Wes.

Ann Marie  Rossi
PAINTED POST, NY | Ann Marie Rossi, of 112 Grace Blvd., 
Painted Post, NY, went home to God on April 22, 2002. She is 
survived by her husband, Luigi Rossi; son, Vincent and his 
wife Anne of Miami, FL; a daughter, Mary Kathryn and her 
husband Bill of Wilmington, DE, and a son Paul of Corning, NY. 
She is also survived by her mother, Vincenzina Ferraro of 
Painted Post, NY; a brother, Niel Ferraro and his wife Rita of 
Virginia. Ann Marie had six grandchildren: Marie Christina, 
Elissa Marie, Luigi Ross, Michael Angelo, Ann Marie and Steven 
James. She was predeceased by her father, Michelangelo Ferraro 
and her two sisters, Virginia and Antoinette Ferraro. She also 
had many cousins and nieces and nephews across New York, 
Virginia, Nevada, Canada, and Italy.
Ann Marie was born in Corning, NY on May 13, 1947. She was a 
graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School, Corning East High 
School, Corning Community College and Elmira College, 
ultimately receiving her Master's Degree in Adult Education in 
1981. Ann Marie worked as the Religious Education Coordinator 
at St. Mary's Parish, Family Services Society in Corning, and 
a 15 year career as a faculty member at CCC in the Human 
Services Division.
Ann Marie was a dedicated mother and teacher. For her work in 
the classroom, she was awarded the 1995 Board of Trustees 
Excellence in Teaching Award at CCC. In 1999, she was named 
Woman of distinction by NY State Senator, Randy Kuhl, she 
received the Chancellor's Award, the State University of New 
York for her excellence in teaching. In 2000, she was the 
recipient of the Child Abuse Prevention Award, given by the 
Steuben County Task Force for her efforts in the Prevention of 
Child Abuse.
Friends may call at Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., 
Corning, NY 14830 on Thursday, April 25th from 5-9 pm. A Mass 
of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church in 
Corning, on Friday, April 26, 2002 at 9:30 am. Committal 
Prayers and Interment will be held in the Family Plot at St. 
Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to 
a scholarship fund at CCC in the Human Services field of

Genevieve M.  Rotsell
CORNING | Genevieve Mildred Rotsell, age 74, of Park Avenue, 
Corning, NY, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at the 
Corning Hospital.
Genevieve was born in West Orange, NJ, June 29, 1927, the 
daughter of Francis J. and Gertrude O'Shaughnessy Fehn. She 
became the wife of James W. Rotsell, Sr., November 8, 1952 in 
St. Patrick's Church. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's 
School, CFA and the Corning Business School. Genevieve worked 
for the Ryan Loan Co. of Corning before becoming a full time 
mother and homemaker. She was a communicant of All Saints 
Parish - St. Patrick's Church and was a member of the Soaring 
Polka Club.
Surviving Genevieve is her husband of 49 years, James W. 
Rotsell, Sr. of Corning; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael 
and Linda Rotsell of Painted Post; grandchildren, Lindsay and 
Erin Rotsell both of Painted Post.
Predeceasing Genevieve were a son James W. Rotsell, Jr. 
December 25, 2001, a daughter Nancy Rotsell September 14, 
1986, and a sister Anne Amundson.

Evelyn M.  Rounsville
HORSEHEADS | Evelyn M. Rounsville age 59, of 16 Valley Avenue, 
Horseheads passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at the Arnot 
Ogden Medical Center. 
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Frederick L. 
Rounsville; a daughter, Barbara Carolson; a son and 
daughter-in-law, Edwin and Robin Rounsville; five 
grandchildren: Nichole, Typhanie, Seth, Hannah Rounsville and 
Britany Carolson; a brother, Edwin Jay of Forest City, PA; 
sisters, Ella Rupocinski of Las Vegas, NV, Lucy McGreal of 
Titusville, FL, Lois and Dominic Allegrino of Binghamton; a 
brother-in-law, Ken Austin and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Geneieve Jay 
and sister, Helen Austin.
Her hobbies were collecting recipes, crafting and playing with 
her grandchildren. Evelyn was an active member of the Calvary 
Baptist Church in Gibson where she taught Sunday School for 30 
years. She was a volunteer at the Horseheads Christian School 
for 28 years and cleaned for the elderly at Villa Serene for 
15 years. She was a loving and wonderful mother and wife and 
an asset to her family and friends. She will be greatly 
missed.
Family and friends are invited to call Friday, May 24, 2002 
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the James D. Barrett Funeral 
Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 25, 
2002 at Calvary Baptist Church, Gibson, NY with Rev. Jefferey 
Becker officiating. A meal will follow provided by the ladies 
of the church and interment will follow lunch at Forest Lawn 
Memorial Park.



Ernest  Rouse
PRATTSBURGH, NY | Ernest Rouse, age 53, of #16 Main Street, 
Prattsburgh, NY, formerly of Wellsboro, PA, died Friday, May 
31, 2002 at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. He was 
born September 15, 1948 in Blossburg, PA the son of Clyde & 
Nina Tubbs Rouse. He was currently employed by the town of 
Prattsburgh.
He is survived by his brothers: Raymond Rouse of Melbourne, 
FL, Leland Rouse of Little Marsh, PA, Vernon Rouse, of Little 
Marsh, PA, Clyde E. Rouse of Little Marsh, PA and James Rouse 
of Wellsboro, PA; sisters: Patty L. Rouse of Wellsboro, PA, 
Thelma Wollmann of Mansfield, PA, Ruth A. Preble of Tenn. and 
Lorraine Stermer of Tioga, PA and several nieces, nephews and 
cousins.
A Memorial Service will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 AM at 
the Prattsburgh Baptist Church, Prattsburgh, NY. Committal

Francesco P.  Ruscitto
WAYLAND | Francesco (Boogum) P. Ruscitto, 89 of 2678 Route 21, 
passed away Thursday evening (July 11, 2002) at his home.
Boogum was born October 3rd, 1912 in Syracuse, NY, the son of 
Vincent and Emilia Petrone Ruscitto. He moved to the Wayland 
area in 1934 where he opened his barbershop and operated it 
until he retired in March 2002 due to medical complications.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville, 
NY and was a former member of the Wayland Hose Co., the 
Wayland Lions Club, and the American Legion Post 402. 
Francesco was a veteran of the United States Navy and served 
his Country in World War II.
He is pre-deceased by a daughter Patricia Warren in 1988.
He is survived by his wife Sarah; 2 sons, James (Kay) Ruscitto 
of Campbell, NY and Charles Ruscitto of Washington, DC; 1 
sister, Anna Kutzera of Syracuse, NY; 1 son-in-law, Frank 
Warren of Oswego, NY; 9 grandchildren, Cindy (Bob) Hammond, 
John (Cindy) Ruscitto, Charlene Ryan, Diane (Scott) Lodge, 
James (Linda) Ruscitto, Amy (Gary) Papke, Mike (Donna) Warren, 
Paul (SuAnne) Warren, Richard Smith; 20 great grandchildren; 7 
great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Kelly A. Russell
OWEGO | On Friday, June 7, 2002, God called home an angel to 
sing in his choir. Kelly Ann Russell, 29, passed away at UPNC 
Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., She was born in 
Endicott, N.Y., the first baby of the New Year, January 1, 
1973, to James and LouEtta (Stuart) Russell. She was 
predeceased by her paternal grandparents, George and Gladys 
Russell. 
Kelly is survived by her parents, Jim and Lou Russell, Owego; 
her brothers and sister and their spouses, Jim Russell Jr., 
Owego, Veronica and Marty Truesdail, Owego, George and 
Bernadette Russell, Chenango Bridge, N.Y.; her maternal 
grandparents, Roland and Shirley Stuart, Cameron, N.Y.; her 
nieces and nephew, Sheena, Marty Jr., and Mindy Truesdail, 
Sabrina Russell; several aunts, uncles, cousins; her adopted 
grandparents, Martha and Levi Nestle; her cats, Baby Cakes, 
Precious, Black Beauty, Charmer Boy, and her many loved 
friends. 
Kelly was a member of Mountain Chapel, Owego. She loved 
singing in her church choir and also with her longtime friend, 
Alice Detrick. Kelly took great pride in teaching, helping and 
giving guidance to children.
She was a mentor to both the young and old.
Kelly especially adored her nieces and nephew, and loved 
spending quality time with them. Regardless of her health, she 
always lived life to the fullest.
Funeral services will be held at Richards Funeral Home, Rte. 
17C West, Owego, N.Y., on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at 10 a.m., 
with the Rev. George Ayres, pastor of Mountain Chapel, 
officiating.
Burial will follow in Gibson Corners Cemetery, Owego. Friends

10, 6-9 p.m.

LAWRENCEVILLE, PA | Lawrence Paul Russell age 86, of Mill 
Street, Lawrenceville, PA went home to be with the Lord on 
Friday July 12, 2002.
Lawrence was born December 15, 1915 in Lindley, NY the son of 
Arthur and Sylvia Bockus Russell. He operated his own auto 
repair business in Lawrenceville until 1965. He worked as a 
custodian at Williamson High School, where he retired from in 
1981. He was a member of the Lawrenceville Fire Department and 
a member of the Lindley Community Church.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Shirley A. Russell of 
Lawrenceville, PA and his son Cleo (Marian) Russell of 
Lawrenceville, PA, three grandchildren, Terry (Brian) McCarter 
of Sayre, PA, Brian (Karen) Russell of Corning, NY and Karin 
Russell of Lawrenceville, PA, and four great grandchildren 
whom he thoroughly enjoyed, Kourtney and Kaitlynn McCarter and 
Gavin and Jacob Russell, also a nephew, Verrill Robbins of 
Rancho Mirage, CA. 
Lawrence was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie I. Russell and 
sister, Frances Wolcott.

Sharon L. Ryall 
PAINTED POST | Sharon L. Ryall, age 46 of Painted Post, passed 
away on Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center 
in Elmira.
Sharon was born July 11, 1955 in Corning, NY the daughter of 
Geroge E. and Doris L. Tongue Cosier. Sharon worked as a clerk 
at the Walmart Store in Consumer Square and as a receptionist 
with H & R Block in Corning. She was a member of the West 
Caton Baptist Church and the Home Bureau, a former softball 
coach for the Erwin Valley Cinderella and enjoyed camping and 
shopping in the Lancaster area.
Surviving are her daughters; Stacey Phelan of Campbell, Tammy 
(Tim) Pope of Fayetteville, NC, significant other, Robert 
Randolph; father, George Cosier; brother, Wayne (Cathy) Cosier 
of Painted Post; grandchildren, Liam Phelan, Karinne and 
Kaitlynn Pope.
Sharon was predeceased by her mother, Doris Cosier in May of 
2000.

Robert G.  Sagardi
ADDISON | Robert G. Sagardi, 61, of 6161 State Route 417, 
Addison, NY, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2002 at home 
after a long illness.
 Born in Dover, New Jersey, November 23, 1940, he was the son 
of Gabriel & Irene Harsanyi Sagardi.
He was a graduate of Dover High School and was a veteran of 
the United States Navy.
An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Crystal City Bass 
Club. He was, also, a member of Post 846 American Legion of 
Canisteo.
For many years Bob was a dairy farmer and more recently was 
the proprietor of W & W Grocery.
He married Gaye J. Dempsey on December 7, 1972. She survives.
Also surviving are his son, John Loehnert of Rochester, NY; 
his mother, Irene Cooke of Fort Myers, FL; his brother, 
William Cooke of Clifton, NJ and his sister, Lorrie Anicito, 
also of Clifton, NJ.

2002 in Jacksonville, FL as a result of a motorcycle accident.

loved to ride her Harley. She enjoyed gardening, camping, 
crafting and time spent on Keuka Lake. Peggy Sue was always

Raymond N.  Saltsman, Jr. 
AVOCA | Raymond N. Saltsman, Jr., 69, died unexpectedly Monday 
(July 8, 2002) at his home at 9312 County Road 7.
 Born in the Town of Wheeler on Dec. 13, 1933, he was the son 
of the late Raymond and Ethel Babcock Saltsman.
A life long resident of Avoca, Raymond was a graduate of Avoca 
High School and an electronic school in Texas.
He was employed by Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport before his 
retirement.
Raymond was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church, a member of 
a computer club and was a HAM radio operator.
His family includes his son, Daniel (Deborah) Saltsman of 
Avoca; his fiance, Rebecca Bezant of Jasper; his sister, Rose 
Thorsen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Grace 
Margeson of Avoca and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, 
Phillip and Sharon Margeson also of Avoca.
Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his wife, 
Nancy (Margeson) Saltsman on Dec. 28, 2000.

Maud R.  Salyerds 
CORNING | Maud R. Salyerds, age 88, of Bath, passed away on 
Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Corning Hospital. She was born 
on March 21, 1913 in Wheeler, New York the daughter of Willard 
and Daisy Mann Bates. She was married to Clare Salyerds. He 
predeceased her in February of 1969.
Maud was a member of Bath Baptist Church and worked for 
Hopkins Dairy in Bath. She was a loving wife, mother, 
grandmother and great grandmother and she enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her sons: Edward Salyerds of Bath, Charles 
(Mary) Salyerds of Elmira and Allan (Linda) Salyerds of 
Painted Post; grandchildren: Brian Salyerds of Elmira and 
Brandon Salyerds of Painted Post; two great grandchildren, 
sister: Elinor Edwards of Bath; special nieces: Betty Brown, 
Sandra Menke and Elizabeth Van Geldert, along with several 
other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers 
and sisters: Healy and Francis Bates, Lorene Fairbanks, 
Delores Striker and Howard, Arthur, Spencer and Marjorie 
Bates.
It was Maud's wish that there be no calling hours. A private 
funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Leon F. Sargent, age 78, passed away at Corning Hospital on 
Friday, August 9, 2002, after an extended illness. He was born 
in Corning, NY, on April 24, 1924, the son of Leon Sargent and 
Agnes Raisey. Leon married Lois Adamy on October 31, 1959. 
Leon is survived by his wife, Lois, son Michael Stirpe of TN., 
daughters Michelle (Patrick) Perryman of AZ., Yvonne (Thomas) 
Kane of Carlisle, PA., Lisa Sargent and her fiance Elton Black 
of Corning. A very special granddaughter that would make him 
smile, Terrah Marie Adamy Sargent, and his other adoring 
grandchildren that he loved so much: William "Shane" Craig 
Jr., Nicholas Craig, Chevis Sargent, Siobhan Kane, Trinity 
Kane, Brendan Kane, Kateri Kane, Sean Kane, Saun Perryman, 
Leslie Stirpe and Terry Stirpe. His brother, Carl Sargent of
