She had been a practice manager for more than 15 years at the 
Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pa.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Little of Painted Post; a 
daughter, Amy Pchinow of Rochester; a son, Stephen Pchinow of 
Syracuse; her father, Royce Mitchell of Corning; two 
stepdaughters, Shannon Schmidt and Sarah Little, both of 
Corning; three stepsons, Stephen Little, Scott Little and 
Samuel Little, all of Corning; a sister, Corri Foster.
Calling hours are 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of 
God Church, 260 W. Pulteney St., Corning.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 7:30 p.m., the Rev. Al Craig officiating. Burial will be in 
Fairview Cemetery, Painted Post.

BATH | Mildred D. Lorow, 86, of Webbs Crossing Road, Hornell, 
died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 at the Fred and Harriett Taylor 
Health Center.
She had been employed at the former Harvey & Carey Drug Store 
in Hornell.
Survivors include one daughter, Lois Hughes of Hornell; three 
sons, Roger Lorow of Altoona, Pa., Gary Lorow of Sanborn, and 
Thomas Lorow of Brunswick, Ga.

Sunday, April 7, 2002 at home.
He retired as a truck drive from Corning Inc. with 12 years of 
service.
Survivors include his mother, Wilma Lowe of Painted Post; his 
grandmother, Mayme Stevens of Painted Post; two brothers, 
James Lowe of Sabinsville, Pa., and Robert Lowe of Treton, 
Fla.; five sisters, Joan Smith, Onalee Bunner, Elaine West, 
all of Corning, Wilda Pawlak of Trenton, Fla., and Nina 
Mattison of Oldtown, Fla.

Sullivanville Road, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 
He had served Glad Tidings Christian Life Church for over 40 
years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sharon J. Glidden 
Lowmaster; a son, Scott E. Lowmaster of Elmira; a daughter, 
Judy E. Lowmaster Tingley of Schertz, Texas; a brother, Paul 
Lowmaster of Valier, Pa.

Horseheads, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at St. Joseph’s 
Hospital.
She was retired from LRC Electronics in Horseheads.
Survivors include her husband, Adolph H. “Otto” Lubnow of 
Horseheads.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. | Chester Theodore Lutz, 67, of 
Mechanicsburg formerly of Wellsville, died Thursday, May 2, 
2002 at Holy Spirit Hospital.
He retired after 20 years serving in the US Navy as a chief 
machinery repairman and also worked for Dresser Rand and 
Ingersoll Rand in Wellsville as a steam turban engineer.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas William Lutz of Etters; a 
sister, S. Grace Good of Elizabethtown.
Calling hours are 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Burg Funeral Home, 134 
West Broadway, Red Lion.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Guinston UP Cemetery.

ANGELICA | Ruth A. Lyon, 84, of 7392 Peavy Road, died Sunday, 
Feb. 3, 2002 at Jones Memorial Hospital.
She had worked as an inspector for Bell-Aircraft in Buffalo 
and also for the former Long’s Broom Factory in Angelica.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Volkmar of 
Belmont, Michele Lyon of Texas and Jennifer Lyon of Angelica; 
two sons, Daniel Lyon of Angelica and John Lyon of Georgia; a 
brother, John Rossrucker.
Private services will be held Wednesday. Burial will be at a 
later date at the Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica. Arrangements 
are by Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Ave., Angelica.

MODESTO, CALIF. | Zerl Madden, 89 formerly of Hoffman Street, 
Elmira, N.Y., died Sunday Feb. 17, 2002.
She retired from Elmira School District where she taught first 
grade at various schools including Hendy Avenue Elementary in 
Elmira.
Survivors include a son, John Madden Jr. of California; a 
sister, Alvina Griffith of Ithaca, N.Y.

CORNING | Rebecca S. “Becky” Majiros, 49, of County Route 19, 
Beaver Dams, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
She was a nurse for Campbell-Savona High School.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, David Majiros Sr. 
of Beaver Dams; three sons, Nathan Majiros of Rochester Hills, 
Mich., David Majiros Jr. of Wayland, and Jonathan Majiros of 
Beaver Dams; her mother, Deborah Schwerin of Clinton Township, 
Mich.; two sisters, Sandra Nave of Spring, Texas and Renie 
Eddleman of Sterling Heights, Mich.

MONTOUR FALLS | Martha B. Maloney, 79, of Corning died 
Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Schuyler Hospital.
She retired in 1987 from Great American Food Stores.
Survivors include two brothers, Edward Zilaitis and Richard 
Zilaitis, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five sisters, Elsie 
Baldauff of Florida, and Marie Festa, Charlotte Hinch, 
Patricia Johnson and Lorraine Walsh, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in 
Coopers Cemetery, Coopers Plains, with the clergy from All 
Saints Parish offering the prayers.
Carpenter’s Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, is in 
charge of the arrangements.

GALETON, PA. | William M. Maloney, 73, of Galeton, formerly of 
Philadelphia, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at home.
He had worked for Local #169 Warehouse in Philadelphia for 31 
years and also as a security guard at the Philadelphia 
Inquirer for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Bertele Maloney; a son, 
William Maloney III of Philadelphia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in 
St. Bibiana Church, Galeto,n the Rev. Brian E. Vossler 
officiating. Burial will be in Old Cathedral Cemetery, 
Philadelphia.

TIOGA, PA. | Madeline Mann, 73, of Corning, N.Y., died 
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 in Tioga.
She was a retiree of Corning Inc.

Administration Hospital.
He was a former employee of Elmira Bridge. He also worked at 
the Horseheads Post Office for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Karen A. Marsh; one daughter, 
Sharon Penney Marsh of Fairport.

She assisted in the operation of a dairy farm in Rexville, was 
a former postal clerk for the Post Office in Rexville and 
served two terms as tax collector for the Town of Greenwood.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph McCaffrey of Minoa, 
Robert McCaffrey of Oswego and John McCaffrey of York; a 
sister, Geraldine Lewis of Greenwood.

of Tokyo, Japan; two sisters, Genevieve Chapin of Elmira and 
Mary Fenton of Hornell; two brothers, Robert Binney of 
Slidell, La. and William Binney of Rushville.

BATH | Ralph A. McGory, 88, a resident of the Steuben County 
Health Care Facility and formerly of Mitchellsville Hill Road, 
died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the facility.
He retired several years ago as an inspector at Mercury 
Aircraft in Hammondsport. He also had owned and operated 
McGory’s Rest Homes in Bath.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Greene of Lancaster, and 
friends Martin and Linda Cornish and the Lester Erway family.

He was a farmer.

CORNING | Thomas A. McHenry Jr., 77, formerly of Corning, died 
Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 at the Gloversville Residential Health 
Care Facility.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He owned 
McHenry’s Garage in Corning.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas G. McHenry of Rosewell, 
Ga., and Don McHenry of Johnstown; a daughter, Mary Kate 
Gentile of Wrentham, Mass.; a sister Betty Beaulieau of 
Yorktown.

201 W. Second Ave., Johnstown. 
A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St.

CORNING | Floyd W. “Mickey” McKerrow, 68, of 58 John St., died 
Monday, March 25, 2002 at Corning Hospital.
He was an auto mechanic with Sparlings Northside Esso, Austins 
Texaco, Howard Sutherland Contracting, and Eckston Management.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Janet McKerrow; two 
sons, Mark McKerrow of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Michael McKerrow of 
Corning; one sister, Winifred Lyons of Stanford, Ariz.
Services will be held at 
11 a.m. Friday at the South Corning United Methodist Church, 
Caton Road, the Rev. Judy White officiating.
Arrangements are by Phillips Funeral Home.



 Robert McPherson
DANVILLE, PA. | Robert McPherson, 73, of Sunderlinville, died 
Friday, April 12, 2002 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. 
He worked had worked at Ingersoll-Rand in Painted Post.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Snay McPherson; three sons, 
Rob McPherson of R.R. Sabinsville, James McPherson of 
Sunderlin-ville, and Arlen McPherson of West Pike; a brother, 
Larry McPherson of Irmo, S.C.; and two sisters, Juanita Clay 
of Burnsville, W.Va., and Vanzil Lowther of Massillon, Ohio.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. today at the Benjamin R. Olney 
Funeral Home, Ulysses.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 4 p.m., the Rev. David Brelo officiating. 
Burial will be in Parker Hill Cemetery.

NORTH HORNELL | F. Pearl Meese, 86, of Lakeview Apartments, 
105 Geneva St., Bath, died Thursday, April 11, 2002 at McAuley 
Manor.
Survivors include two sons, Lanny Meese of Avoca and Paul 
Meese of Bath; a foster son, Darrell Gardner of Avoca; four 
daughters, Alda Gardner of Titusville, Fla., Joyce Hill and 
LaVonne Zeltwagner both of Avoca and Beverly Belanger of 
Wallace; a brother, Paul Riley of Long Bottom, Ohio.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Bond-Davis & 
Bishop Funeral Home, Avoca.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Avoca United 
Methodist Church, the Rev. Rene Carrillo officiating. Burial 
will be in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.



 David R.  Mele
CHARLOTTE, N.C. | David R. Mele, 51, of Round Rock, Texas, and 
formerly of Elmira, N.Y., died Thursday, March 7, 2002, in 
Charlotte.
He was district manager for Jim Walters Homes and, at the time 
of his death, was working out of the Charlotte area.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Groves Mele of Round Rock, 
Texas; two sisters, Theresa A. Hughes of Columbia, Md., and 
Mary C. Wheaton of Deltona, Fla.; three brothers, Nicholas J. 
Mele and John H. Mele, both of Elmira, N.Y., and Karl P. Mele 
of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Home, at the corner of Water and Walnut streets, Elmira, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday 
in St. Mary’s Church, Elmira, N.Y. Burial will be at 1 p.m. 
Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Olean, N.Y.

CORNING | Gertrude Regina Merola, 89, of Corning, died 
Thursday, May 23, 2002 at home.
She worked for Corning Inc. as a payroll clerk for 45 years.
Survivors include one son, Nicholas T. Merola of Corning; one 
brother, Patrick Cosgrove; one sister, Clara Stevens.
There will be no calling hours.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 
the Rev. Philip Billotte officiating.

Wednesday, April 10, 2002.

Church, Corning. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Painted 
Post.

Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 at home.

 Robert I.  Mickel
LMIRA | Robert I. Mickel, 89, of Villa Serene, Elmira Heights, 
formerly of Horseheads, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at the 
Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
He had been a supervisor at the Agway Plant in Big Flats. He 
and his wife, Estella, also owned and operated Pinewoods 
Campgrounds for many years.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Jo Strong of Horseheads; 
one brother, Ralph Mickel of Shippensburg, Pa.; two sisters, 
Alice Osborne of Pennsylvania and Verna Bush of Bellwood, Pa.
Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist 
Church, 209 Gardner Road, Horseheads.
Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours 
at 4 p.m. Saturday, Pastor Lewis Newkirk officiating. Burial 
will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.

HORSEHEADS | Frances Agnes Middleton, 90, formerly of Corning, 
died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at Elcor Health Services.
She had been a supervisor for the New York Telephone Company.
Survivors include two sisters, Angela Billings of Smithtown 
and Marion G. Smith of Corning.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family at the 
Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning.



 Theodore E.  Miles
NELSON, Pa. | Theodore Edward Miles, 79, of 27 Beechers 
Square, formerly of Genesee, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at home.
He retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Army & Navy 
and also he had worked for many years for Lunn’s Lumber in 
Wellsville, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife Gertrude Miles; four daughters, 
Laurie Miles of Westfield, Arlene White of Orlando, Fla., 
Denise Saterlee of Presho, N.Y., Tammy Horton of 
Lawrencevillle and Karon Lockhart of Brevard, N.C.; a son, 
Charles Tripp of N.C.; two brothers, Willard Miles of Broken 
Arrow, Okla. and Donald Miles of Elkland.

Services will be held there at 2 p.m. Monday the Rev. Melvin 
Ternes officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery,
