Maude H. Norris

BATH, N.Y. -- Maude H. Norris, 95, of 102 Village Square Apartments, Painted Post, passed quietly at the Steuben County Health Care Facility Saturday, June 10. 

The daughter of Frank and Olive Trumbull, she was born April 19, 1905 in Bath and grew up in Campbell. A 1924 graduate of Northside High School, she received a teaching degree from Mansfield Normal School and taught on Pine Hill in Hornby. 

On August 21, 1926 she married John H. Norris, who predeceased her in 1972. They were the parents of one son, John M. Norris, who died in 1993. 

A long-time member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, she served as treasurer for many years. For more than 50 years she was a member of the Corning Rebekah Lodge and a Past Deputy. Over the many years she was a member of the South Corning United Methodist Church. She held many administrative board positions. 

An ardent gardener, these interests were very much in evidences at her Village Square apartment where her flowers graced the patio. Her cooking skills will be sorely missed at the Village Square activities where she could always be counted on for her creative additions. 

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Charline Norris of Tyrone, N.Y.; grandsons J. Kevan (Lynne) Norris, Hampstead, N.H., Robin K. (Cindy) Norris, Ft. Pierce, Fla.; a granddaughter, Kimberlee (Charles) Garrett, Venice, Fla., great-grandchildren J. Andrew Norris and Brooke A. Norris, Hampstead, N.H., and Allison M. Norris and Jacob J. Norris, Ft. Pierce, Fla. 

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 13 at the Acly-Stover Funeral Home. There will be a Rebekah service at 2:30 p.m. Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at the South Corning United Methodist Church, the Rev. Judy White presiding. Internment will be in Barnard Cemetery, Corning. 

Memorial donations may be made to the South Corning United Methodist Church, Caton Road, Corning, N.Y., or to the Corning Chapter of the Salvation Army women’s Auxiliary. 
 

Edward P. Fratarcangelo

CORNING -- Edward P. Fratarcangelo, 80, died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at the home of his son, John Fratarcangelo. 

Survivors include his wife Velma; two sons, Peter P. Fratarcangelo and John E. Fratarcangelo, both of Corning; three stepsons, Terry Colegrove of Greeley, Colo., Edwin Colegrove of Placersville, Calif., and Thomas Colegrove of Orangevale, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Judy Muscarella of Vero Beach, Fla., and Cindy Preston of Corning.

Donald B. Ormsby 

CORNING -- Donald B. Orsmby, 87, formerly of Dayspring Apartments II, Corning died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Three Rivers Health Care Center in Painted Post. 

Survivors include a son, Phillip D. Ormsby of Corning, and a daughter, Judy A. Ormsby of Painted Post. 

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning. 
 

Esther P. Root 

WELLSBORO, Pa. -- Esther A. Root, 62 of Mansfield, died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. 

Survivors include four sons, Roger Marble of Hunt, N.Y., Steven Marble of Otto, N.C., Oliver Marble of Wellsboro and Quincy Root of Blossburg; three daughters, Catherine Vincent, Mary Wimbrough and Floral Root, all of Mansfield; two stepchildren, Michael Root of Pembroke, Ga., and Georgia Ward of Williamsport; two sisters, Elizabeth Cummings of Tioga and Marsha Rarick of Roseville. 

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wilston Funeral Home, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield. 

Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tioga. 
 

Robert C. Parker 

BATH -- Robert C. Parker, 76, of 7 Rumsey St., died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at home. 

He was retired from the New York Telephone Co. as a telephone office repairman. 

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Parker, and three children, Robert Parker of Colorado, Richard Parker of Painted Post, Marilynne Van Scoyoc of Florida, one half-brother, Ernest Shaut of Bath. 

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 226 W. Morris St., Bath. Arrangements are by Seager-Jones Funeral Home, Bath. 

George J. Smith

CORNING -- George J. Smith, 81, of Corning, died unexpectedly in his home Thursday, June 8, 2000. 

He was an electrical contractor who owned his own business, T.J. Smith Electric. 

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Adriance of Corning and Laurie LeBarron of Camillus; three sons, Richard Smith of Dallas, Texas, James Smith of Albany and Brian Smith of Corning; two sisters, Mildred Stucky and Alberta Lane, both of Ithaca, four brothers, Roy Smith of Florida, Adrian Smith of Painted Post, Ray Smith of Saratoga and Harold Smith of Penn Yan. 

Calling hours are from 4-6 p.m. today at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Orthodox Cemetery, Corning. 
 

Harry Glenn McCormick

CORNING, NY-- Harry Glenn McCormick, born September 30, 1924, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Corning Hospital after a brief illness. 

He served three and a half years in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He retired as a foreman from Gold Seal Winery. 

He was a member and past-president of the Bath Country Club and was employed by the Club’s pro shop for many years. He held memberships in the Bath Elks Club, Bath American Legion and Bath Veterans of Foreign Wars. 

Mr. McCormick was the youngest son of Gladys (Potter) McCormick and Charles Harold McCormick, both deceased. His siblings, Betty, Joyce, Joe and Charles, and a nephew, Mike, also predeceased him. 

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sons, Charles (Jennifer) and David (Michelle); grandchildren, Shane, Jeremy, Brendan and Andrew; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Angeline (Angie) McCormick, sisters-in-law, Betty and Loyola (Sis) and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation was held at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home in Bath from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 18. 

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Prattsburgh at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 19. Burial will be at the Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery following the service.

Harold E “Chub” Smith

WOODHULL, NY -- Harold E. “Chub” Smith, 77, of 6584 State Route 417, Woodhull, died suddenly on Saturday, June 17, after being stricken at home. 

He was born April 11, 1922 in Brockway, Pa., the son of Harold and Mary Dorsey Smith. He was a graduate of Elkland High School and served in the US Army in the European Theater during World War II. 

Chub had been a dairy farmer and had also worked several years at the former Elkland Leather Company in Elkland. He married Eleanor Mather on July 2, 1960 in Elkland. He was a member of the Cowanesque Rod and Gun Club in Elkland and also was a member of the Knoxville, Pa., VFW. 

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Smith; 3 sons, Douglas (Suzanne) Smith of Elkland, Evan (Mariann) Smith of Tuscarora, and Edward Smith of Lawrenceville, Pa.; 2 daughters, LaRae Smith of Woodhull and Sherrie Smith of Belleville, N.J.; a sister, VernaMae Bruce of Westfield, Pa.; 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 in Highland Cemetery, Elkland, with the Rev. Robert Ford, pastor of the Elkland United Methodist Church, officiating. 

Memorials in Chub’s name may be made to the Elkland United Methodist Church. 

Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith and Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Woodhull. 
 

Mabel A. Butler

CORNING -- Mabel Ada Butler, 81, of 15 Tuxill Ave., Corning, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at her home following an extended illness. 

She worked for Corning Inc. for 22 years before retiring in 1973. 

Survivors include her daughter, Kathaleen Butler of Corning; three sisters, Rachel Post and Lillian Gaskins, both of Clearfield, Pa., and Marie Anderson of Sisseton, S.D. 

Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning. 

Services will be held there at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Donald Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Corning. 
 

Helena Kozielski
>ELMIRA -- Helena Kozielski, 93, of 4053 Rockwell Ave., Horseheads, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. 

Survivors include three sons, Anatoli Kozielski of Sacramento, Calif., Borys Kozielski of Horseheads, Victor Kozielski of Davis, Calif.; two daughters, Walentyna Sanscharowski and Tamara Kozielski, both of Horseheads. 

Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. today at Van Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home, Mill Street and Grand Central Avenue, Horseheads. 

Services will be there at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Richard J. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. 
 

Rose Secondo

HORNELL -- Rose Secondo, 85, of 90 Front St., Hornell, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at McAuley Manor.

Edward R. Snow

HOLDEN, MA -- Edward R. Snow, 77, of Holden, MA died on October 8, 2000. He leaves his wife Marcia (Graham) Snow; two sons, Thomas G. Snow (Karen Meriwether) of Hammondsport, NY and Edward R. Snow, Jr. (Robin) of Canton, OH and a daughter Martha J. Bigelow (David) of Rutand, MA. 

He graduated from Holden High School and attended Northeastern University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1943 where he served for 3 years. He retired in 1988 after 23 years with State Mutual Life Assurance Company as Brokerage Manager. He belonged to several insurance organizations and was a member and past president of the Worcester chapter American Society of C.L.U. 

He was elected to the Holden School Committee and served several years as its chairman. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a member and past president of the Worcester Dance Assembly. He was awarded the Holden Democratic Town Committee Good Neighbor Award in 1997 and the Holden Grange Community Citizen Award in 1999. He delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Holden Council on Aging.

Harold C. Moss

CORNING -- Harold C. Moss, 78, a resident of Englewood, Florida, died Thursday, September 28th at his son’s home in Fulton, NY. Mr. Moss was born in Owego, NY on March 4, 1923, the son of Ruth Brownell Moss and Rozell Moss. 

Harold was predeceased by Ruth A. Moss, his wife of 54 years. 

A WW II Veteran of the European Theater, he resided in the Corning area most of his life. Harold retired from the US Postal Service in 1978. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, B.P.O.E. and Loyal Order of Moose. 

He is survived by: Sister Rosie Ayres of Watkins Glen; daughter: Dr. Roxie Miles; son-in-law Richard Miles of Apalachian, NY and son Rodney Moss: daughter-in-law Deborah Eygabroat Moss of Fulton, NY; grandchildren, Martin Moss of Baldwinsville, NY; Teah, Margaret and Michael Moss of Fulton, NY and several nieces and nephews. 

There will be a private Funeral Service for immediate family only.

Danny Arthur Wheeler

ELKLAND, PA -- Danny Arthur Wheeler, age 52, of 104 Hill Street, Elkland, PA died Monday, October 9, 2000 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. He was born July 28, 1948 in Wellsboro, PA, the son of Arthur E. and Rosemarie Ann Simonetti Wheeler. He was a 28 year employee of Corning Inc., a Vietnam Veteran, a member of the American Legion and the Elkland Moose Lodge. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Chad Wheeler of Elkland, PA; daughter, Danielle Wheeler of Osceola, PA; grandson, Michael; granddaughters, Sonya and Brittany; parents, Arthur and Rosemarie A. Wheeler of Lawrenceville, PA; sister and brother-in-law, Linda J. and Gary Gerow of Lawrenceville, PA; maternal grandmother, Kathryn Wheeler of Elkland PA; several aunts, uncles nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Wheeler and sister, Joyce Wheeler. 

Friends are invited to call at the Kenyon Funeral Home, Elkland, PA Thursday noon to 2:00 PM where funeral services will follow calling hours at 2:00 PM; Rev. Harry Dow officiating. Burial in Highland Cemetery, Elkland, PA.

Louis Bacalles

CORNING -- Louis Bacalles, 89, of Crestwood Road, Corning, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000 at Corning Hospital. 

He owned and operated the Corning Flower Shop on West Market Street for more than 60 years. 

Survivors include his wife, Sotera Bacalles of Corning; a brother, Nicholas Bacalles of Corning.

Justin C. Henry

ELMIRA -- Elaine E. Snyder, 43, of Pine City, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. 

She had served in the U.S. Army for more than 17 years. 

Survivors include her father and stepmother, Ross and Jackie Snyder of England; a sister, Catherine T. Saucedo of Alaska; a brother, William Hudon of Georgia. 

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

ULYSSES, Pa. -- Claud O. Wood, 70, of Ulysses, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000 at home. 

He was a truck driver. 

Survivors include four sons, James Wood of Bath, N.Y., Robert Wood of Ulysses, Walter Wood of Elkland and Charles Wood of Kittery, Maine; three daughters, Bonnie Norton of Ulysses, Carolyn Ramos of West Point, N.Y., and Jean Johnston of Ulysses. 

Calling hours are noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses. 

Services will be there immediately following calling hours at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. David K. Ford officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
