Colleen Ostrom, sports fitness management director, Lake View native, dies at age 29
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Nov. 26) from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church for Collen M. Ostrom, 29, of Rockledge, Pennsylvania and formerly of Lake View, who died Thursday, November 22, 2001.
She is survived by her parents, Douglas and Virginia Iafallo Ostrom; brother, David Ostrom; grandmothers, Helen Ostrom and Virginia Iafallo; aunts and uncles, Jacquelyn Ostrom, Gail (Paul) Brown, Donna (James) Shaw, Mary (Thomas) Foley, John “Doc” Iafallo, Michael (Kim) Iafallo, Janet (Bruce) Sage, Joseph (Janet) Iafallo and Carol (James) Widger, and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Elmer “Whitey” Ostrom and John Iafallo.
Ms. Ostrom was employed as a sports fitness management director in Pennsylvania. 
Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Duane Dillingham
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 from the Wentland Funeral Home in North Collins at 11 a.m. for Duane Dillingham, 38, of Goose Creek, South Carolina and formerly of North Collins, who died Thursday, November 22, 2001.
He is survived by his parents, Keith and Helen Andrews Dillingham; daughter, Miranda Dillingham; fiancee, Shelia Perdue; brother, David K. Dillingham and sister, Diana L. Orr.
Mr. Dillingham was employed as a mortgage broker with LoanCents Mortgage Brokers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the Ladson VFW Post No. 3433 and the Kiwanis Club.

Joyce Puleo
A memorial service was held Monday (Nov. 26) from Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home for Joyce A. Ehrman Puleo, 66, of Orchard Park, who died Wednesday, November 21, 2001.
Wife of the late Casimir J. Puelo, she is survived by her daughters, Sharon (John) Sipowicz and Patty (Dan) Hoeffner; father, Francis Ehrman; brother, Alvah (Anne) Ehrman; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Puleo was a retired medical technologist with Erie County Public Health Labs.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Buffalo Inc.
Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery. 

Edward Willis
Funeral services were held Saturday (Nov. 24) from Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Colden for Edward Willis, 70, of Boston, who died Wednesday, November 21, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Ehrhart; son, Dennis (Debra) Willis; daughters, Dianne (Richard) Emerling and Dawn (Paul) Walczak; brothers, Henry (Barbara), James (Mary Jane), Robert (Betty) and Thomas (Marge) Willis; sisters, MaryAnne (late George) Wilson and Dora (Charles) Puleo; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Willis was employed as an iron/construction worker for Local No. 6 in West Seneca.
Arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Willard Klipfel
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6 from Trinity Episcopal Church in Hamburg at 10 a.m. for Willard E. Klipfel, 75, of Hamburg, who died Monday, December 3, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah. A. O’Neil Klipfel; son, Peter (Susan) Klipfel; daughters, Katherine Ann Klipfel and Karen (William) Miller; sister, Jane (Edmond) Hauck and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Virginia Friedman
Funeral services were held Saturday (Dec. 1) from Our Mother of Good Counsel Church for Virginia M. Bodkin Friedman, 89, of Blasdell, who died Monday, November 26, 2001.
Wife of the late Clyde H. Friedman, she is survived by her daughters, Anne (Karl) Kriz, Mary (Carmen) Sebastiani, Patricia (James) Hartung and Virginia (Michael) Nadel; son, Richard J. (Patricia) Friedman; sister, Helen (James) Burke; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mabel Bodkin; brother, John (Grace) Bodkin Jr. and grandson, Michael Sebastiani.
Mrs. Friedman was employed as a school teacher for the Lake Shore Central School System. She was a 50-year member and past grant regent of Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of Our Mother of Good Counsel Court No. 1311, Southtowns Retired Teachers Association, College Club of Buffalo and Daughters of Erin.
Entombment was at Holy Cross Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.

Gertrude Boyer
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Florida for Gertrude Clookey Boyer, 85, of Spring Hill, Fla. and formerly of Hamburg, who died Saturday, December 1, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Felix L. Boyer; daughters, Suzanne (William) Boyer-Gerard, Judy (Joseph) Perez, Jeanie (Charles) Vejvoda, Elizabeth Gallagher and Barbara (Paul) Zemla; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Boyer was a registered nurse and was an active volunteer in many organizations including the American Red Cross, the Bishop’s Committee in the Diocese of Buffalo and The Catholic Daughters of America. She was also past-president of the Quota Club of Hamburg and was an active member of the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church.

Edward Krzemien
Funeral services were held Friday (Nov. 30) from Our Mother of Good Counsel Church for Edward F. Krzemien, 87, of Blasdell, who died Monday, November 26, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Zophia E. “Emily” Dziechciarz Krzemien; daughters, Kathy (Michael) Mazzeo and Debbie (Tim) Keenan; son, Peter (Francine Geyer) Krzemien; brother, Bill Krzemien; sister, Grace Ann Krzemien, and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Rose (late John) Rimo and Veronica (late Mack) Sawicki, and brothers, Walter and Roman (late Mary) Krzemien.
Mr. Krzemien was employed as a rigger for Hanna Furnance Company. He was a founding member of the American Legion Matthew Glab Post No. 1477.
Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.

Samuel Johnston
Word has been received on the death of Samuel E. Johnston, 77, of Hamburg, who died Tuesday, November 27, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Johnston.
He was predeceased by brothers and sisters.
Mr. Johnston was born in Ireland. He later moved to New York and was employed as a millwright at the Ford Stamping Plant in Woodlawn. He was a veteran of both the Royal Navy and the British Army and was a member of the Hamburg American Legion Post No. 527.
Arrangements were made through the Loomis, Offers & Loomis Funeral Home. 

Stefan Laskowski
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 10 from Most Precious Blood Church in Angola at 11 a.m. for Stefan B. Laskowski, 83, of Dunedin, Florida and formerly of Cheektowaga, who died Wednesday, November 21, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica Rochna Laskowski; brother, Henry (Alice) Laskowski; sister, Regina Bukowski; and 21 nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.
Mr. Laskowski was employed by Westinghouse as an electrical draftsmen for 37 years before retiring in 1982. He was held as a civilian detainee of World War II and is affiliated with the Seminole Barbed Wire Chapter of Ex-Prisoners of War.
Arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home. 

Megan Anne Bauer, Eden Central high school student, dies at the age of 18
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Dec. 10) from St. Mary’s Church for Megan Anne Bauer, 18, of Eden, who died Thursday, December 6, 2001.
She is survived by her parents, Duane and Elaine Dole Bauer; sister, Kelly R. Bauer; brother, Erich W. Bauer; grandparents, Sylvester and Mary Bauer and Clyde and Betty Dole; boyfriend, Brian Murphy, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bauer was a senior at Eden Junior-Senior High School. Her major organs were donated to help others in need.
Memorials may be made to the Megan Anne Bauer Scholarship Fund, care of Eden Central School, the Eden Emergency Squad or the Boston Emergency Squad.
Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Laing Funeral Home.

Mary Lederman
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Dec. 10) from S.S. Peter & Paul Church for Mary Kathryn Smolkovic Lederman, 54, of Hamburg, who died Thursday, December 6, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Gary J. Lederman; daughters, Mary E. (Paul) Sutton and Susanne M. Lederman; sons, Thomas M. and Joseph D. Lederman; mother, Mary S. Smolkovic; brothers, F. Joseph (Barbara) and James Smolkovic; sister, Susan (Robert) Sillence, and one grandchild.
She was predeceased by her father, Frank J. Smolkovic.
Mrs. Lederman was a 1965 graduate of Hamburg High School. She was an alumna of Hilbert College, Medaille College and Trocaire College. She recently earned her masters degree in Education from Canisius Colege. She was a former elementary school teacher before becoming a registered nurse, working at several health care facilities. She was an employee of Buffalo General Hospital at the time of her death.

Jean Hopp
Word has been received about the death of Jean E. Hopp, 53, of Modesto, California, who died Friday, November 9, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, David Hopp; sons, Alan and Benjamin Hopp; sister, Margaret Panettieri, and brothers, John and George Quinn.
Mrs. Hopp was a graduate of SUNY at Geneseo and taught school in California.

Nicholina Lojacono
Funeral services were held Friday (Dec. 7) from S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery for Nicholina R. Lucca Lojacono, 91, of Hamburg and formerly of Gowanda, who died Wednesday, December 5, 2001.
Wife of the late Anthony A. Lajacono, she is survived by her sons, Samuel (Shirley) and Alfred (Linda) Lojacono; daughter, Jeanette (Raymond) Pilon; brothers, Nick (late Ginger) and Carl (Artie) Lucca; sisters, Mary (late John) Fricano, Carrie (Sam) Majorca and Laura (Joseph) Calebrese, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mrs. Lojacono was a food service employee at Gowanda State Hospital.
Burial was at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.

Victor Pacelli
Funeral services were held Monday (Dec. 10) from S.S. Peter & Paul Church for Victor Pacelli, 89, of Hamburg, who died Thursday, December 6, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Boberg Pacelli; daughters, Charlotte Louise Pacelli and Victoria Elizabeth (F. Jay) Manning, and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pacelli was a member of the United State Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Hamburg Council No. 2220 and a member of Laborer’s Union No. 210.

Arthur West
Funeral services were held Friday (Dec. 7) from Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home for Arthur R. West, 79, of Penfield, who died Tuesday, December 4, 2001.
Husband of the late Doris Cavanaugh West, he is survived by his daughters, Sherry (Richard) Smith, Joan (late Ken) Dawe, Annmarie (Pat) Capozzi, Marianne (Joseph) Maciag and Kathy (Leo) Gibbons; sons, Joseph (Gemma) and Patrick (Sally) Cavanaugh, and many grandchildren.
Mr. West was employed as a proprietor in the construction field.
Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery.

Orville Brock
A memorial service was recently held in Lakeland, Florida for Orville E. Brock, 92, of Lakeland, Fla. and formerly of Boston, who died Monday, November 19, 2001.
Husband of the late Alberta Ewan Brock, he is survived by his son, Duane (Helen) Brock; brother, Charles Brock; sister, Esther Brock; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Brock.
Mr. Brock was a member of Fraternal Lodge F&AM No. 625 of Hamburg, Ismailia Temple of West Seneca and the Lakeland Shrine Club in Florida.

Evelyn White
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Dec. 11) from St. Bernadette’s Church for Evelyn White, 95, of Hamburg, who died Saturday, December 8, 2001.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, William White; and sister, Katherine Cantlin.
Mrs. White was a retired teacher for the Buffalo School District. She was a member of Saint Bernadette’s Church.
Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Froehley-Dengler Funeral Home.

Marcella Mertle
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Dec. 11) from St. Mary’s Church for Marcella Kohn Mertle, 69, of Hamburg, who died Thursday, December 6, 2001.
Wife of the late Richard R. Meryle, she is survived by her daughter, Tina (Terence) Ryan; brother, Francis Kohn; sisters, Ethel Dunkan and Margaret Stoddard, and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Mertle was a retired customer service representative for New York Telephone. She was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers.

Isabelle Keller
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Dec. 11) from S.S. Peter & Paul Church for Isabelle McKinstry Keller, 96, of Hamburg, who died Friday, December 7, 2001.
Wife the late Joseph A. Keller Sr., she is survived by her son, Joseph A. (Janice) Keller Jr.; daughter, Eileen (Alan) McAuley; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Keller was employed as a bookkepper for the Hoover Company.

Walter Mostek
Funeral services were held Wednesday (Dec. 12) from St. Martin’s Church for Walter H. Mostek, 89, of Eden, who died Friday, December 7, 2001.
Husband of the late Mildred Golabek Mostek, he is survived by his daughter, Rose (Eugene) Hadrych; sons, Paul (Linda), Dr. Walter (Anne Marie) and James E. Mostek, and 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Ann (Frank) Suozzi, Mary Schneider and Bertha Klumpp, and brother, John Mostek.
Mr. Mostek was employed as a dairy farmer.
Burial was at St. Martin’s Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Laing Funeral Home.

Dale White
Funeral services were held Sunday (Dec. 9) from Wentland Funeral Home for Dale L. White of Eden, who died Thursday, December 6, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Yager White; sons, Joseph and Vito (Terri) Cataldo and Walter (Nancy) and Alan (Kathleen) White; daughters, Carol Urban, Tina White, Angela (Bob) Wozniak and Patricia Cataldo; brothers, Merle, Benjamin and Curtiss White, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Helen White.
Mr. White was a member of the Newell-Faulkner American Legion Post No. 880 Eden and the U.A.W.
