Park, NY and earned his BA at Kalamazoo College in Michigan and later an
MS degree from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth. As an Electronics
Engineer, Al worked with Bell Helicopter in Buffalo before moving to Ft.
Worth. After moving to Florida, all was promoted to Section Manager at
Harris Intertype Corp. in Melbourne, FL. He took the position as President
of Valjean Corp. and also served as Formulation Specialist for this private
label company until his retirement. He later founded Harbach Electronics
that specializes in amateur radio equipment, which sells parts around the
world. As an avid amateur radio operator himself, he participated in many
award-winning expeditions to Belize, Japan, Caicos, Russia and many other
sites. He was considered an authority on Heathkit amplifiers and antenna

Died July 21, 2001 at Pacific Grove Convalescent Home, Pacific Grove,
CA. Husband of the late Mary Florence (nee Sloan) and Rosemary (nee Walsh);
father of Barbara Kerner, George W. (Bill), both of Atlanta and Greg of
Buffalo; brother of Paul, Tarpon Springs, FL and Ruth Spitznagel, Encinitas,
CA; survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial
service will be held at Parkside Lutheran Church, 2 Wallace Ave., Buffalo,
Saturday, August 25th, 11:00 AM. Interment of cremains with full Military
Honors will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery following the service. In lieu of

PO Box 631, Bflo, NY 14240. Mr. Schaaf was a lifelong resident of Buffalo,
where he was the last of three generations to operate George Schaaf Construction
Co. He was also a graduate of Bennett High School with a degree in Civil
Engineering from Cornell University. He commanded minesweepers in WWII
where he served with Ralph Wilson, Jr. Mr. Schaaf was vice-president of
the Buffalo Bills during the early championship years, later retiring from
John W. Cowper, Co in the mid 80's.
