He was a crossing guard for School 1, Clifton. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7165, Clifton, and American Legion Post 121, Little Falls. EUGENE S. BALAZS, 66, of New Milford died Thursday. Before retiring five years ago, he was a sheet metal worker with Union Local 28, New York City. He was a Coast Guard veteran. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Oradell. Arrangements: Riewerts Memorial Home, Bergenfield.

JOSEPH A. "COBBY" CAGGIANO, 68, of Clifton, formerly of Lyndhurst, died Wednesday. He was a funeral director and owned Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Fair Lawn, for 16 years. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3549 and American Legion Post 139, both in Lyndhurst, and the U.S. Navy Memorial and the Navy League of the United States, both in Washington, D.C. He was a parishioner of St Anne R.C. Church, Fair Lawn, a charter member of the Funeral Ethics Association, and a member of the Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce and the National and New Jersey State funeral directors associations. He was a graduate of the American Academy of Funeral Service, New York City. Arrangements: Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Fair Lawn.

ANNA BENINCASA CAPIROSSI, 96, of Hackensack died Thursday. She was born in Italy. She was a parishioner of St. Francis R.C. Church and a member of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society and the Third Order of St. Francis, all in Hackensack. Arrangements: G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, Hackensack.

FRANK J. DeMUTH, 83, of Dover Township, formerly of Glen Rock, died Wednesday. Before retiring in 1987, he was a welder for Welding Supply Co., Elmwood Park, where he worked for 55 years. MARION H. McMAHON DISS, 84, of Foley, Ala., formerly of West Milford and Maywood, died Tuesday. Before retiring, she was a registered industrial nurse for Lever Bros., Edgewater, where she worked for 24 years. Arrangements: Richards Funeral Home, West Milford.

ROSE A. SMITH, 72, of Clifton, formerly of Carlstadt, died Thursday. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church, East Rutherford. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, East Rutherford, and the Seniors Veterans Auxiliary Post, Clifton, and was a former crossing guard in Carlstadt, East Rutherford, and Clifton. IRWIN "PETE" FLATEMAN, 74, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Upper Saddle River and Teaneck, died Friday. He had been chairman of the board of Short Line Bus Co., Mahwah. He was a member of the Teaneck Jewish Center. Arrangements: Gutterman-Musicant, Hackensack.

ARTHUR J. HAMILTON, 75, of Jackson, formerly of Little Ferry, died Friday. Before retiring in 1983, he was a custodian for the Little Ferry Board of Education, where he worked for 20 years. He was a former Little Ferry police commissioner and council member. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 230, Bogota, and a volunteer fireman in Little Ferry. WILLIAM B. MAYNARD, 82, of Glen Rock died Thursday. Before retiring, he was a self-employed management consultant. He was a graduate of Lehigh University. BETTY JANE VAN HORN METZDORF, 70, of Leonia died Friday. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader in Leonia. She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist School and Leonia Parent Teacher associations. She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist R. C. RICHARD NAWOYSKI, 55, of Garfield died Wednesday. He was a tow motor driver for Garden State Paper Co., Garfield, where he worked for 15 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows R. C. Church, Garfield, and a former member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member and past grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council 2863, Garfield, and a member of the National Rifle Association. ROCCO PLINIO NAZZARO, 74, of Wayne died Thursday. Before retiring in 1987, he was a dentist in Paterson for 45 years. He was an Army Dental Corps veteran. He was a past president of the New Jersey Dental Society and a member of Elks Lodge 2181 and Unico, both in Wayne. JENNIE LUCILLE IUCULANO BLACK, 82, of Midland Park, formerly of Paterson, died Friday. Before retiring in 1975, she was a weaver in the Paterson textile industry for 35 years. Subsequently, she was a lunch aide in the Ridgewood school system. She was a parishioner of the R.C. Church of the Nativity, Midland Park, and a member of its Rosary Society. HENRIETTA WIERENGA VAN TIL BROEILS, 90, of North Haledon, formerly of Prospect Park, died Saturday. She had been a nursing assistant at the Christian Health Care Center, Wyckoff.
