BECK - Herbert L., 74 yrs., Missouri Valley, IA. EICHNER - Ruth, age 82 yrs., died May 2, 2001 at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, VT of natural causes. She was born in Papillion, NE, Aug. 23, 1918, daughter of Frank and Mae (Helwig) Mann. She attended schools in Sarpy County and was active in 4-H work as a youth, and later as an adult leader, finally achieving a reputation as the best cook in Sarpy County. Wherever Ruth found herself, she used her talents for nourishing and nurturing. She married John Eichner on Dec. 14, 1941. The share a career in farming for 20 years in Nebraska, Ruth working for many of those years as a certified nurse assistant. They moved to Vermont in 1980 to resume farming in Addison. They also served in church, school and environmental activities. In 1992, they finally retired to Middlebury for a new career in community service. Ruth leaves behind her grieving family: Bill, Steve and David Eichner, Faith Chaney and Laura Holmquist, and their spouses; grandchildren and friends, as well as five brothers, Herbert, Frank, Ray, Bob and Bill Mann and their wives, all of the Omaha/Papillion area. Ruth''s husband of 59 years, John, died Jan. 2, 2001. A Memorial Service for both will be held June 16, 2001 at 10 am at St. Stephens Church in Middlebury, VT, the Rev. John Keenan will officiate. KERNER - Jeannette, was a stage and screen actress in Hollywood beginning in 1936 until her final film GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE in 1997. She died in Los Angeles, California on May 25, 2001. She was 85 years old. She came to Hollywood from Omaha, Nebraska in 1936 as a student at The Art Center College of Design in costume and fashion design. At the same time she began acting and voice classes in order to pursue her life long goal of acting in film. She became a Charter Member of the Screen Actors Guild in 1936. In 1939 she married Jerry Kemer a doctor to many Hollywood luminaries. She had featured roles in such films as HISTORY IS MADE AT NIGHT (1937), LESS THAN ZERO (1987), FUNNY ABOUT LOVE (1990), THE MIGHTY DUCKS (1992), D2: THE MIGHTY DUCKS (1994) and D3: THE MIGHTY DUCKS (1996). She appeared in the cable features BREAKING POINT (1989) and HEATWAVE (1990) for TNT. She appeared in the television movies/ miniseries MY FIRST LOVE (1988), BACKFIELD IN MOTION (1992), and NAOMI AND WYNONNA: LOVE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE (1995). She died of natural causes as a result of pneumonia with lung and heart complications at Cedars/Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Her sons Jeffrey and Jordan, her daughters-in-law Diane and Nicola Kerner, and her grand- daughters Nickole, Kim, Haley and Grace Kerner survive her. Jordan Kerner is a film producer in Los Angeles. Kim Kerner also attended The Art Center in environmental design. Rabbi Stephen Leder conducted the memorial service at Hillside Memorial on Thursday May 31, 2001 at noon. A reception was held at the Kerner home immediately following the service and burial.
