ADAM T. ARTIS 
STANTONSBURG -- Adam Toussaint Artis, 89, died Thursday at Wilson Medical Center in Wilson.
He was a member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church and the funeral will be held there at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Pastor Johnnie Sherrod will officiate. Burial will be in the Forte Family Cemetery.
Mr. Artis was a native of Wayne County, was a World War II veteran, and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Pastor Mildred Artis of the home; four daughters, Stephanie A. Kent of Kenly, Minister Sandra A. Kemp of Goldsboro, and Wanda A. Chambliss and Minister Elizabeth Moore of Durham; and seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The viewing will be Friday from 3 until 9 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Wilson.
The family will receive friends at the residence at 332 Applecreek Road and will gather there one hour prior to the funeral to prepare for the procession. 

ALVIN LEE AYCOCK 
WINTERVILLE -- Alvin Lee Aycock, 43, of 2573 Rosewood Drive, died today at home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Hamilton Funeral Chapel Inc. in Goldsboro.

IRAIS G. CASTANEDA 
CLINTON -- A memorial service for Irais Granados Castaneda, 27, of 240 Frank Lane, will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Mount Olive. Burial will on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Clinton.
Mrs. Castaneda is survived by her husband, Carlos Castaneda; one son, Abel Castaneda; and her father, Horacio Granados.
Garris Funeral Home in Mount Olive is serving the family.

ALLEN DAIL 
ALBERTSON -- Albert Elmer Dail, 65, of 124 Harold Grady Lane, died Wednesday night in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
He was the son of the late Albert Theodore Dail and Mary Lou Hill Dail King. He was employed as a cafeteria manager with the North Carolina Division of Services for the Blind.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with the Rev. Jimmy Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineview Cemetery near Seven Springs.
Mr. Dail is survived by his wife, Audrey Jones Dail of the home; a son, Kenny Dail of Sanford; two grandchildren, Kristin Nicole Dail and Mitchell Allen Dail of Sanford; a brother, Walter "Knot" Dail of Albertson; and a sister, Betty Lou Murphy of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael T. Dail.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7 until 9 p.m, and will be at the home at other times.

TESSIE GRADY 
Tessie Grady, 91, of 532 Corbett Hill Road, died Tuesday morning. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Eureka Christian Church. The Rev. Frank Purvis and the Rev. Jack Musick will officiate. Burial will be in the Grady family cemetery.
Mrs. Grady is survived by a daughter, Linda Massey and husband, Staley, of Faison; five sons, Pat Grady and wife, JoAnn, of Mount Olive, Monty Grady and wife, Judy, of Grantham, Alston Grady and wife, Beth, of Fuquay, Jack Grady of Garner, and Glynn Grady and wife, Rose, of Magnolia; a sister, Rachel Thompson and husband, Durwood, of Wilmington; and 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove.

PEARLY HOLLOMAN 
DUDLEY -- A Celebration of Life service for Pearly Holloman will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Dudley. Dinner will be served immediately afterward.
Mrs. Holloman died Tuesday night at Britthaven of Goldsboro.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (Billy) Baker of Dudley and Peggy Holloman of Wilmington; a surrogate daughter, Anna Best of Goldsboro; a grandson, Bobby Baker of Dudley; a great-granddaughter, Tashiani Baker of Dudley; a very special and devoted cousin, Rosa Cole of Dudley; a faithful friend, Beverly Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Lightner Memorial Funeral Home of Goldsboro is serving the family.

WARREN G. HOLLOMAN 
SELMA -- Warren G. "Tom" Holloman, 69, died Tuesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.
He was born in Johnston County and was the son of the late Fred and Laura Daughtry Holloman. He retired as a drill press operator with Dewey Bros. Inc. in Goldsboro, where he had worked for more than 20 years.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. The Rev. Mark Creech will officiate. Burial will be in Parrish Memorial Church Cemetery.
Mr. Holloman is survived by his wife Lola Twiggs Holloman; a son, Freddie Holloman of Pine Level; a daughter, Rita H. Massey of Pine Level; brothers, Robert Holloman of Princeton and Thurman Holloman of Florida; sisters, Lessie Allen and Bessie Strickland of Princeton and Ruby Davis of Smithfield; one granddaughter and two step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma.

BURSHIE T. JONES 
MOUNT OLIVE -- Burshie Thompson Jones died today at Mount Olive Retirement Village.
She was a former long-time resident of Johnson Place in Mount Olive.

ROSALIE S. RHODES
Rosalie Smith Rhodes, 89, died Wednesday at Guardian Care in Kinston. 
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery. 
Mrs. Rhodes was a native of Wayne County, was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Cora Rose Smith, and was the widow of Jimmie Rhodes. She previously worked with the Cradle Shop in Goldsboro and was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church. 
She is survived by a son, Bryan Rhodes Jr. and wife, Mary Dell, of Kinston; three sisters, Rebecca Thompson, Luta Belle Lawrence and Walena Kornegay, all of Goldsboro; two brothers, Alton Glenn Smith of Goldsboro and Walton Smith of Evans, Ga.; grandchildren, Trey Rhodes and wife, Patty, of LaGrange, Neil Rhodes and wife, Lynn, of Kinston and Jenni Rhodes Wiggins and husband, Chris, of LaGrange; and a great-granddaughter, Leigh Rhodes. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert J. Smith Jr.

The funeral for Peggy Jean Carraway Sutton will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Woods Chapel Church on New Hope Road. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
The wake will be Friday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home.

SANNIE M. WILLIAMS
MOUNT OLIVE -- The funeral for Sannie Marshall "Sandy" Williams, 62, of 505 Oliver St., will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Pastor E.T. Coston and Elder Dwight Morrisey will officiate. Burial will follow in Armwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was employed as a crew chief at Mount Olive Pickle Co. and worked part-time as an attendant at Garris Funeral Home.
She is survived by three sons, Reginald Williams and wife, Yvonne, of Faison, 1st Sgt. Charles Williams and wife, Jan, of Reno, Nev., and Arthur J. "Nookie" Williams of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Sgt. 1st Class Dedra R. Williams of Fort Bragg; five sisters, Mary Simmons, Dorothy King, and Mary Louise Royal of Mount Olive, Minnie Carpenter of Manhasset, N.Y., and Barbara Agard of Corona, N.Y.; and two brothers, Charles Connell Williams of Philadelphia and David LeVern Carlton of Long Island, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Christopher Williams.
The viewing will be Friday from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home .

CHARLES C. MITCHELL 
ARLINGTON, Va. -- Charles C. Mitchell, a former resident of Pikeville, died Monday at his home in Arlington.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Muttis Willoughby Funeral Chapel in Scotland Neck, N.C. Burial will be in Mary's Chapel Cemetery.
He is survived by one sister, Margaret Mitchell of Goldsboro, and four brothers, James Mitchell of Goldsboro, Cornelius Rowe and Robert Mitchell of Fremont, and Curtis Mitchell of Pikeville.

KINSTON -- Tessie Marie Jones Butts, 73, of 1301 N. College St., died Thursday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. 
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Garner Funeral Home with the Rev. Glassie Locklear officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
Mrs. Butts the widow of Elton Butts and was a member of Rivermont Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Grice and husband, Spillman, and Gail Butts, all of Kinston; five sisters, Tempie Potter of Deep Run, Mattie Corey, Mabel Ginn and Nancy Sparrow of Kinston and Dorothy Sowers of Norfolk, Va.; five brothers, Joe Jones, Thomas Jones, and Lynwod Jones of Kinston, Bobby Jones of Grifton, and Vernon Jones of Tacoma, Wash.; five grandchildren, Tony Grady and wife, Cristy, Michael Grice, Michelle Sasnett and husband, Stevie, Chris Jones and wife, Tina, and Stacie Burns and husband, B.J.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Grady, a brother, Ernest Jones, and a sister, Hilda Herring.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Garner Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Spillman and Shirley Grice at 1970 Winter Forest Drive in Kinston.

Esther (Till) Coley of 109 S. Tiffany Road, formerly of 503 Stronach Avenue, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church on Pearson Street with the Rev. Ezekiel Sutton officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Helen (Thomas) Dortch of the home; one sister, Eloise C. Daniels of Goldsboro; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and LouisAnna Randolph Coley; brothers, William Coley and Roland Coley Sr.; and sisters, Fannie Coley, Amanda C. Wellington and Catherine C. Smith.
The viewing will be held today from 4 until 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home.

CLYDE C. DAIL 
MOUNT OLIVE -- Clyde C. Dail, 64, of 179 Carter-Thigpen Road, died Thursday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
A private service will be held.
Mr. Dail was the son of the late Faison and Della K. Dail and was a retired millwright.
His survivors include his wife, Nellie Lloyd Dail of the home; a son, Tony Dail of Williamsburg, Va.; a daughter, Christal Pritchard of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Ethel D. Sullivan of Mount Olive; four brothers, Bobby Dail of Goldsboro, Alton Dail and Bill Dail of Mount Olive, and William Dail of Clayton; and four grandchildren.

BENSON -- Milton Ray "Buster" Eakes, 49, of 126 Mill Pond Road, died Wednesday.

Mr. Eakes was employed by Eakes Auto Service.
He is survived by two brothers, Linwood P. Eakes Jr. of Raleigh and James D. Eakes of Fayetteville; and two nephews, Linwood P. Eakes III of Raleigh and Jerry A. Eakes of Los Angeles, Calif.

Florence Exum, 52, of 802 Westview Court, died Sunday, December 10, 2000 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at Bear Creek Association Headquarters on Slocumb Street. The Rev. Michael A. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Atkinson Chapel Church Cemetery in Wayne County.
Mrs. Exum is survived by her husband, Roy Exum of the home; one son, Rodney Exum of Goldsboro; one daughter, Freneta Carson of Maryland; two brothers, Jerry M. Sykes and John W. Sykes of Goldsboro; five sisters, Virginia Taylor, Yvonne Williams, Doris King and Alberta Barnes of Goldsboro and Cathelene Linton of Maryland; and three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Geraldine Wooten Hunter, 77, of 1405 Poplar St., died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hunter is survived by one son, Thomas Hunter of Goldsboro; two daughters, Bobbie Jacobs of Goldsboro and Melba Y. Mosley of Rocky Mount; and five grandchildren.

KAYLA S. KALETU
WARSAW -- Kayla Sari Kaletu died today at the University of North Carolina Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill.
She was the 2-month-old daughter of Yolanda Morrisey Kaletu and Morufu Kaletu of 3000-B Kings Court, Raleigh.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Rhodes Funeral Home in Warsaw.

MABEL H. MALPASS 
WARSAW -- Mabel Holloman Malpass, 86, died Wednesday.
Formerly of Mount Olive, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Carmie Smith Holloman and was the widow of Jim Frank Malpass. She was a member of Salem Advent Christian Church and was active in art classes for many years.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. The Rev. Steve Ruberg will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park near Goldsboro.
Mrs. Malpass is survived by two daughters, Sybil Lassiter and husband, Mack, of Mount Olive, and Gloria Snyder and husband, Gary, of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Hazel Shaw of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Rodney Holloman of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Tory Snyder, Erin LeMaste, and James Franklin Lassiter; and three great-grandchildren, Shawna and Ryan Snyder and C.J. Turnage.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Mike Lassiter.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 until 9, and at other times at the home of Mack and Sybil Lassiter at 304 W. College Street in Mount Olive.

EUGENE ROBINSON 
LAGRANGE -- Eugene "Koot" Robinson, 64, of 303 Lenoir St., died Monday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at LaGrange Mortuary Inc. with Elder Ronnie Hood officiating. Burial will be in LaGrange Cemetery.
Mr. Robinson was a U.S. Navy veteran and was retired from the construction business.
He is survived by his wife, Vernice Robinson of the home; one stepson, James Anthony of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Obediah Robinson of Parkstown; one sister, Lucille Graham of LaGrange; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 until 8 p.m. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence.

ARNOLD LEE SMITH
Arnold Lee Smith, 80, of 163 Smith Farm Road, died today.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Seymour Funeral Home.

LUCILLE VALINES 
Lucille Valines, 60, of 208 Sourwood Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Valines is survived by her husband, Deacon Joseph Valines of the home; one son, Fred D. Smith of Union, S.C.; one brother, Curtis Smith of Union, S.C.; two sisters, Lee E. Bryant of Rome, N.Y., and Barbara Jean Brown of Texas; and four grandchildren.
The body may be viewed Saturday from 3 until 9 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel and the family will be there to receive friends during the wake from 7 until 8 p.m.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ. Dr. Alton Smith will officiate. 
The body will be transported to Gibson and Brown Funeral Home in Union, South Carolina, where there will be a viewing Monday at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Union. 
The family will assemble at 208 Sourwood Road on Sunday at 1 p.m.

EDDIE D. WILSON
TURKEY -- Eddie Dean Wilson, 53, of 1833 Summer Hill Road, died Thursday at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Garris Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
