Vergie Ferrell Gay
Vergie Ferrell Gay, 89, formerly of the Pearce Community died Monday,
November 4, 2002 at Rex Convalescent Care Center. Mrs. Gay was born in
Wake County on July 14, 1913 to the late Arthur Ferrell and Bettie Richards
Ferrell.
Funeral Service was 11 am November 7 at Pearce Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving: sons, B K Gay Jr. and his wife, Pat of Raleigh, Dan Gay
of Raleigh; grandchildren, Donna Gay Flynn an husband, James K Flynn of
Charlotte and Shannon Gay of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Ian Flynn, Seth
Flynn, Ross Flynn, all of Charlotte.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gay was preceded in death by her husband,
Blanchard K Gay Sr.; brother, Benton Ferrell and sister, Vessie Ferrell.

Robert Vance Young Jr.
Robert Vance Young Jr., 78, of 305 East Garner Road, died Monday.
Funeral Service was 6:30, November 6, at Bryan Lee Funeral Home.
Surviving: wife, Helen P Young; daughter, Brenda K Young of Clayton;
son Robert V Young III of Raleigh; sister, Annie Rhodes of Fuquay-Varina;
and Roberta Moyer of August, GA; half Brother, Milton Young of Willow Spring;

Inez Young Smith
Inez Young Smith, 85, formerly of Turner Fish Road, Willow Spring,
died November 4, while surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded
in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Telfair L Smith; sons, Raeford,
Bobby, and Leonard Smith; brother, Lacy Young; and her Parents, Hosea and
Flonnie Young.
Funeral Services were held 11 am Thursday, November 7, at Fellowship
Baptist Church. Burial Church Cemetery.
Surviving: daughters, Faye Smith Jones (Allen) of New Hill, Mae Smith
Tart and Sue Smith Higgins (Danny), both of Angier; son, Thomas J Smith,
Sr. (Lassie) of Raleigh; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grand children;
sisters, Mozelle Robinson and Edith Morrow, both of Durham, Joyce Braswell
of Angier and Janice Nash of Four Oaks; brothers, Elwood Young of Raleigh
and Norwood Young of Apex and sister in law, Judith Young of Angier and
many nieces and nephews.

Willie Fleming Frazier Carroll
Willie Fleming Frazier Carroll, 92, formerly of Warrenton, died Monday,
Nov. 4, at Britthaven of Goldsboro, NC after years of declining health.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Susie Rodgers Fleming and
Horace P Frazier, her husband, Gus Otis Carroll, her brother, Horace P
Frazier, Jr. and her sister, Rosa Cornelia Pearce.
Mrs. Carroll was on of the oldest members of the Warren Plains Baptist
Church for 79 years where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.
She is survived by four sons: Gus H Carroll of Goldsboro, NC; Billy
F Carroll and wife Joyce of Macon, NC; Charles R Carroll of Raleigh, NC;
Lee F Carroll and wife Alice of Garner, NC; one daughter, Mary Sure Evans,
and husband Charles of Goldsboro; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great
grad children, two great great grandchildren; on niece, Susie P Vann of
Garner, NC; special friend, Eartie E Carroll and family of Henderson, NC;
and special friends from Warren Plains Baptist Church.
Those of us fortunate enough to have known Mrs. Carroll on a personal
level were blessed forever with memories of a loving, caring family woman
who exemplified the term Christian. Known as a woman of hard work and dedication
she found pleasure in the simplicity of life. She assisted her husband
on the farm and planted vegetables and beautiful flowers. After retiring
from farming, she worked for Diamonds Department Store in Warrenton and
did private duty sitting. She sewed for her family, made quilts and crocheted
and enjoyed reading. She was well loved and will be sorely missed and will
remain in our hears forever.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Rob Evans and Rev. Jerry
Davidson at Blaylock Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 pm. Burial will follow
in Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton.
Annette G. Brown
Annette Glover Brown, 72, died November 5, 2002.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 8, from 7-8 pm.
The funeral service followed at 8 pm at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside service was held on Saturday Nov. 9 at 11 am at Veterans Cemetery
in Dunn, NC.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Brown; son, Clarence V Ryals Jr.
of Coats; daughters, Betty R Harp of Knightdale; Rhonda R. Hailey of Fuquay-Varina;
Lynn Powell of Knightdale; sisters, Regina Glover of Holly Springs; Elizabeth
Kizar of Cary; brother, Tom Glover of Aiken, SC; nine grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.

Glen Allen Winford
Glen Allen Winford, 45, of 705 Pearce Road, Garner, died Nov. 5 at
his home.
The funeral service was Nov. 7, at 2 pm at the Minshew Funeral home.
Surviving is his mother, Mildred Winford, of Lindale TX,; Son, Daniel
Winford; Step-son, Jake Hall of Garner; sister, Janet Ragland of Lindale
TX.

Deana Kaye Carter
Deana Kaye Carter, 29, died on November 8, 2002.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at McLaurin Funeral
Home Chapel. Pastor Michael Bowen will be officiating. Interment will follow
at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
She is survived by her son, Gavin Taylor; and daughter, Sage Taylor
of the home; father and stepmother, Woody and Beverly Carter of Raleigh;
mother and stepfather, Kaye and Donald Faircloth of Goldsboro; sisters,
Crissy Brown of Burlington and Lindsay Carter of Raleigh; brother, Justin
Carter of Raleigh; grandparents, Woodrow and Margaret Carter of Goldsboro
and Virginia Glover of Goldsboro. She was preceded in death by her maternal
grandfather, Carlyle Glover of Goldsboro. Deana graduated from Garner Senior
High School in 1992. Deana was a loving mom and she enjoyed music, flowers,
and she never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all who knew
and loved her.
The family will receive friends on Sunday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at
McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton.

Eunice P. Chappell, 83, of 6304 Brack Penny Road, died November 7,
2002.
Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Burial to
follow at the Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughters, Janice Guest of Texas, Linda Sue
Pierson and husband, Kenneth of Winnsboro, TX; sisters, Janice P. Tart
of Garner, June P. Evans of Raleigh; brothers, C.C. Penny and Allen Penny,
both of Raleigh; grandchildren, Christal Pierson and Tracey Guest of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood Chappell and brothers,
Ray and Owen Penny.

Lovenia N Hamilton
Lovenia N Hamilton, 80 was called to heaven on Nov. 8, 2002. The funeral
service was held on Nov. 10 at Vandora Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
Burial followed at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Surviving are her daughters, Shirley Seagroves of Garner, Sherlyn Dennis
of Apex; sons, D H Hamilton of Angier, Gerald Hamilton of Garner, Jack
Hamilton of Willow Spring, Jerry Hamilton of Fuquay-Varina and Sherwood
Hamilton of Smithfield; sister, Christine Norris of Angier, Ruby Baker
of Angier, Ruth Beasley of Garner, Betty Norris of Garner, Katherine Searcy
of Willow Spring, Janice Sais of Garner and Mary Owen of Virginia; brothers,
John Norris, Robert Norris and Wilbert Norris, all of Angier and Aaron
Norris of Goldsboro; 24 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Halford Hamilton; her
mother, Esther B Norris and a brother, Avant Norris.

Mary Dean Hamilton
Mary Lou Dean Hamilton, 48, died Tuesday. Funeral was at Holland Methodist
Church. Burial took place in the church Cemetery.
Surviving are husband, James Howard Hamilton: daughters, Kimberly Dawn
Nobling and husband, Buddy of Raleigh; Jenny Lou Hamilton, and fiance’
Ben of the home; granddaughter, Samantha Nobling; sister, Myra Dean Murry
and husband Mark of Raleigh.
The family received friends at Sugg Funeral Home in Fuquay-Varina.
Martha Garner Jones
Martha Garner Jones, 91, of Highway 301 died Saturday afternoon at
the Brian Center in Clayton. Born in Johnston County on October 28, 1911,
she was the daughter of the late William Eli and Rebecca Eason Garner.
Martha was a seamstress with Norwich Mills for 22 years, and the last surviving
member of the family of eight siblings. She was the widow of Carl Howard
Jones, who died in 1978.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in
Selma with Rev. Tim Stevens officiating. Interment followed in Selma Memorial
Gardens.
Surviving are: daughter, Edna Jones Blevins and husband Ralph of Garner;
two grandchildren, Ginger Ridge Ennis of Garner and David Austin Ridge
of Selma; two great grandchildren, Amanda Gray Ennis and Benjamin Clayton
Ennis, both of Garner.
The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday and other times
at the home of Edna and Ralph Blevins, 8706 Crestwood Drive, Garner, NC
27529.
Evelyn Wrike Staley
Evelyn Wrike Staley passed on June 1, 2004 at the age of 87. She was
born in Randolph County, NC on November 17, 1916, the daughter of Edward
B. Wrike and Mamie J. Wrike. She grew up in Jamestown, NC, graduating from
Jamestown High School in 1933. Following graduation, she attended Brevard
College, then recieved an R.N. degree from the Philadelphia School of Nursing.
She served in World War II as a nurse and 1st Lieutenant, where she met
her husband, Donald Rex Staley. After the war, they made there home in
Garner, NC for many years, raising two children. She moved to High Point,
NC after he husband's death in 1990, and resided there until 2001. She
moved to West Bridgewater, Massachusetts to live with daughter Marian.
Her life was characterized by her profession: a sense of persistence,
optimism, and giving herself to others. She was a long time member of the
Garner United Methodist Church, a leader in the WSCS, the Literary Ladies
Book Club, and youth work from 1954 until 1990 (Sunday School and Girl
Scouts).
Evelyn was pre-deceased by her husband and her mother and father; two
brothers; Edward Wrike Jr., and Worth Jennings Wrike; a beloved sister,
Frances Koontz; and her brother-in-law, W.C. Koontz, Jr.
She is survived by one daughter, Marian Spencer of West Waterbridge,
MA (Robert), and a son, Donald E. Staley of Wilmington DE (Eileen), six
grandchildren: Seth and Ethan Spencer, David, Colin, Mary, and Mark Staley,
7 nephews and 4 nieces. Special remembrances include the sons of W.C. and
Frances Koontz of High Point: Jerry Webster Koontz and William E. (Billy)
Koontz; and nephew Peter J. Wrike of Cobbs Creek, VA.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday At Sechrest Funeral Home
Chapel in High Point, NC by Robert Spencer. Interment will be at Guilford
Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will recieve friends at the funeral
