Archie L. Cash
The funeral for Archie Lee Cash, 63, of 719 Walnut Grove Church Rd.,
who died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in Fuller’s Family Care Home, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 8, in Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the
Rev. Rufus Johnson. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Cash was a native of Person County, the son of the late Coy Stroud
and Annie Mae Smith Cash.
He was a former employee of Southern Parts in Roxboro.
He was a member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, William Dale Cash of Burgaw, a niece and three
nephews.
Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service and at
other times at Fuller’s Family Care Home.
Arrangements are by Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Nannie B. Horton
ROUGEMONT – A graveside funeral for Nannie Reece Barnwell Horton, 83,
of Rougemont, who died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in Durham Regional Hospital,
was conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, in Person Memorial Cemetery by
the Rev. Dr. Tommy Jordan.
Mrs. Horton was a native of Caswell County, the daughter of the late
Cornelia Thaxton and Phillip Allen Barnwell. Her late husband was Earl
B. Horton.
She was formerly employed with Stheinthal Corp. and TG&Y in Roxboro.
Surviving are a son, James R. Horton of Rougemont; two daughters, Katherine
H. Davis of Roxboro and Juanita Horton of Rougemont; two sisters, Hallie
Burch of Prospect Hill and Bertha Cobb of Yanceyville; eight grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Grandsons were pallbearers.

Lelia P. Jones
The funeral for Lelia Peed Jones, 94, formerly of 1441 Mt. Harmony Church
Rd., who died Tuesday morning, Aug. 7, 2001, in Roxboro Nursing Center,
will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in Mt. Harmony Baptist Church
by the Rev. Wendell Stokes. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
George Washington and Martha Belle Eakes Peed. Her late husband was John
R. Jones.
She was a retired school teacher.
She was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday
school for more than 50 years.
Surviving are a son, Vic Jones of Roxboro; a daughter, Sue Lunsford
of Timberlake; four grandchildren, Vickie J. Carver, Ernie Jones, John
D. Lunsford and Susan L. Cox; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight, Aug. 8, in Brooks &
White Funeral Home.

Katherine S. Reese
The funeral for Katherine Louise Saurborn Reese, 71, of 520 Cedar Creek
Rd., who died Monday morning, Aug. 6, 2001, in her home, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by
the Rev. Stewart Crank. Burial will be in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Reese was a native of Fairmont, W. Va., the daughter of the late
Moody and Louanna Edwards Saurborn. Her late son was Thomas Reese.
Surviving are her husband, John F. Reese; two sons, John Everett Reese
of the home and David Alan Reese of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Lillian
Cozad of Fairmont, W. Va.; and a half-sister, Mabel Corwin of Florida.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight, Aug. 8, at Brooks &
White Funeral Home.
Wallace Roberson
The funeral for Wallace (Redrock) Roberson, 76, of 1445 N. Main St.,
who died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Person Memorial Hospital following
a brief illness, was conducted at 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, in Strickland
Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Herbert Brown and the Rev. Jason Webster.
Burial was in Providence Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Roberson was a native of Person County, the son of the late Jim
and Maude Wilkins Roberson. His late wife was Willow Ree Walker Roberson.
He was retired from Roxboro Yarns.
He was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Tim Roberson and Mark Roberson, both of Roxboro;
a daughter, Dale R. Shelton of Roxboro; two sisters, Earl Roberson of the
home and Ola R. Chandler of Durham; four grandchildren, Brent Shelton,
Daniel Roberson, Ashley Roberson and Matthew Roberson; two step-grandchildren,
Kim Griffin and Tammy Blalock.
Pallbearers were Vic Poole, William O’Briant, George O’Briant, Mark
Litchfield, Donnie Hubbard and Marvin Hawkins. John Carl Clayton and Wooffie
Robertson were honorary pallbearers.

Lessie M. Bowes
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – The funeral for Lessie Mae Bowes, 78, of 2012 Harmony
Rd., Alton, Va., who did Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, in Halifax Regional Hospital
in South Boston, Va., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in Brooks
Funeral Home chapel in South Boston by the Rev. Timmy Bowes. Burial will
be in Bethel Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Bowes was a native of Person County. Her late husband was Willie
Junious (Buck) Bowes.
She was a member of Alton Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Billy James Bowes of Alton and W. Ray Bowes
of Annandale, Va.; two daughters, Mildred B. Bradham of Wilmington and
Linda B. Miller of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Edith Bowes of Woodsdale
and Margie Wilborne of Nashville, Tenn.; four brothers, Jesse Bowes of
Roxboro, Roy Bowes of Bumpass, Va., and James Bowes and Golden C. (J. B.)
Bowes Jr. , both of Alton; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and
three great-great-grandchildren.
James I. Hill
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Friday night for James Isaac Hill,
93, of 12912 U. S. 501, Rougemont, who died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, in Durham
Regional Hospital.

Nancy C. Phillips
DURHAM – The funeral for Nancy Marie Collins Phillips, 75, of 3420 Wake
Forest Rd., Durham, who died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, in Durham Regional
Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Aug. 11, in Brooks &
White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James Boyd and the Rev. Joe Bostic.
Burial will be in Hillsborough Town Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Durham County, the daughter of the late
Coy Clay and Mary Rasberry Collins.
She was a retired licensed practical nurse with Yancey’s Rest Home
of Hillsborough.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth M. Phillips of Timberlake; three sisters,
Annie Mae Andrews and Rosetta Lane, both of Hillsborough and Catherine
Young of Durham; five grandchildren, Michelle Phillips, Kenneth M. Phillips
Jr., Tracy P. Day, Edward Christmas IV and Sherri Morgan; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will follow the service, at the home of Jack and Teresa
Ellis, 125 Woody Dr., Timberlake.
Pallbearers will be Mark Burton, John Phillips, Joey Young, Robert
Langlouis, Jack Ellis and Edward Christian.
Phyllis W. Satterfield
The funeral for Phyllis Woods Satterfield of Roxboro, who died Tuesday,
Aug. 7, 2001 near her home, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, Aug. 11,
in the Zion Christian Center by Elder Clyde Winstead and the Rev. Danny
Johnson.
Mrs. Satterfield was the daughter of Thelma D. Wiley and June Clayton.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Mark Satterfield;
a daughter, Shari Woods; two sons, David Woods and Antonio Woods; a step-daughter,
Marlisa Satterfield; her step-father, Willie (Mook) Wiley; four sisters,
Deborah, Darlene, Jennifer and Rita Wiley; four brothers, Leon Woods, Audie,
Christopher and Robert Wiley; her grandparents, Richard and Esther Woods
and Adair Clayton; and two grandchildren.

Beatrice Taborn
The funeral for Beatrice Taborn, 75, formerly of 441 Mt. Bethel Church
St., who died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001 in Duke University Medical Center,
will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 12, in Vernon Hill Baptist Church
by the Rev. Ollie Ellison. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Taborn was a native of Granville County.
She was a member of Vernon Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Margaret Finley, Betty Winstead, Willie
Beatrice Burton and Earlie Mae Taborn; two sons, Jimmie Taborn and Frank
Taborn, all of Roxboro; an adopted son, Christopher Wayne Taborn of Roxboro;
five sisters, Igusta McEachern of Durham, Mayola Downey, Queen Esther Ragland
and Madelean Ragland, all of Oxford and Verna Lee Holloway of Philadelphia,
Pa.; a brother, George Washington Green of Oxford; 22 grandchildren; and
18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 11, at Cunningham
and Nelson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Willie Beatrice
