ARAPAHOE-Eva Scott Brinson, 89, of Arapahoe died Tuesday, March 30 at her home. Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 31, 2 pm, at Bethany Christian Church with the Rev. Merritt Watson officiating. Burial was in the Land Cemetery.
Survivors include one sister, Mae Watson of Alliance; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Bethany Christian Church.

VANDEMERE-Lucy R. Jones, 89, of Potter Road, Vandemere, died Friday, April 2 at Craven Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2 pm, at St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. F.L. Hyman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Hudnell Cemetery.
She was a native of Vandemere and a homemaker. She served on the Mother Board of her church.
She is survived by sons, Henry Roberson and Louis Roberson, both of Vandemere, Simon Roberson, Lenwood Roberson, Bobby Roberson, all of New York, NY and Charles Roberson of Raeford, NC; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

HOBUCKEN-Iris Daphne Hopkins, 79, of Hobucken died Thursday, March 25 at her daughter's home. Graveside service was held Friday, March 26, 2 pm, at Barnett Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Lupton and the Rev. Mack Styron officiating.
Survivors include: daughter, Priscilla Caraway of Alliance; sister, Irene Sadler of Hobucken; Cheryl Evans of Stonewall and Selena Bass of New Bern; and great-grandchildren, Kyle Evans and Presley Evans, both of Stonewall.

GRANTSBORO-Golden Evon Lee, 75, of Grantsboro died Thursday, April 1 at Craven Regional Medical Center. Funeral service was held Sunday, April 4, 3 pm, at Bryant Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Graham Lane officiating. Burial was in New Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth K. Lee; sons, Micky Lee of Grantsboro and Robin Lee of the home; daughters, Cindy Pugh of New Bern and Pam Harper of Arapahoe; sister, Lucille Hall of Grantsboro; and five grandchildren.

LOUISE SMITH IRELAND RICHARDSON
Louise Smith Ireland Richardson, 73, of 300 Riverbend Road, Ivanhoe, died Tuesday, March 30 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. Funeral service was held Friday, April 2, 11 am, at Haw Bluff Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Compton officiating. Burial was in the Church Cemetery.
She was a member of Haw Bluff Baptist Church and before residing in Ivanhoe she lived in Alliance for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, H.W. (Bill) Richardson; children, Nelda Louise Illick of Ivanhoe, Clifton O. Ireland, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Robert Lamar Ireland of Santa Monica, CA and Jennifer Sue Boothe of Aurora; grandchildren, Lamar Ireland, Georgette Thomas, Heather Ireland; step-children, Sandra McOmber, Sharon Vega, Donald Richardson, Curtis Richardson; nine step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; brother, Lowell Smith; sisters, Lannis Perucci, Mary Hutchens, Vera Brown, Janice Sue Gibbons.

Evelyn Neal Beacham Barker
Evelyn Neal Beacham Barker passed away on May 22, 2002 at Craven Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. 
Evelyn was born in the North River Community of Beaufort on December 8, 1917. She moved to Oriental in 1934. Since then, she has cared for many elderly and infirmed residents of Oriental and provided meals and solace for many others. She was very active in the PTA at both Oriental Elementary School and Pamlico County High School. She often said that her children and grandchildren were her greatest joys.
Evelyn began working at Cherry Point in the Plexiglas shop in 1965, repairing aircraft for their return to battle in Viet Nam. She worked at Cherry Point until 1975 when she retired as head of the Disbursing Department. Evelyn and her sister Lucy Gilgo were avid quilters and together they taught classes in quilting at the Pamlico Community College.
Evelyn was an staunch advocate of literacy and education and was herself, a life-long learner. Evelyn was instrumental in the arrival of the Craven-Pamlico County Bookmobile which began providing service to Oriental in front of her home in 1960. The Bookmobile continues to stop at her home even today. Evelyn was also a member of the Eastern Star for many years and lived her life according to its precepts of love and fellowship.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Graden Lee Barker, Jr., a nuclear physicist with the U.S. Navy. She is survived by her husband of over sixty-five years, Graden Barker of Oriental; son Senator Bill Barker of Vanceboro, and daughter Victoria Taylor of Oriental; one sister, Irene Tocci of Newport News, Virginia; and three brothers, Thomas Beacham of Beaufort, Paul Beacham of Yuma, Arizona, and Cedric Beacham of Silver Spring, Maryland. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Mary Margaret Barker of Raleigh, Jorja Jamison of Urbana, Illinois, and QM2 Virginia Neal Barker of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and Maggie Taylor of Oriental, and one grandson, Jason Taylor of Beaufort, NC.
Evelyn donated her remains to the East Carolina University Medical School. In lieu of a memorial service, the family requests that donations be made in Evelyn's name to the Pamlico County Bookmobile, 603 Main Street, Bayboro, NC 28515, or to Eastern Star Chapter 129, P. O. Box 146, Grantsboro, NC 28529.

Anne Estelle Mallison Tomlinson
CANDOR -- Anne Estelle Mallison Tomlinson, 92, of S. Tomlinson St., died Monday at Penick Village in Southern Pines.
She was a native of Pamlico County.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Candor Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edsel Huffstetler officiating.
Burial will be in the Candor Cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, J.R. Tomlinson Jr. of Candor and Garrett Tomlinson of Greensboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor.

Eula Mae Jordan Stallings Moore
Eula Mae Jordan Stallings Moore, 70, of 705 Contentnea Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Craven Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Pamlico County. She was a member of Saint Mark Church of Christ Disciples of Christ Church and served as an usher and mother.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Saint Paul Church of Christ Disciples of Christ Church, with Pastor Norma Becton officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
She is survived by one son, Charles C. Jordan of Applewood Waco, Texas; two stepsons, Barney Owens of New Bern and Tony Owens of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Sharon Stallings Ellison of New Bern; one stepdaughter, Cassandra Owens Nobles of Philadelphia, Pa.; four brothers, Isiah Jordan of Grantsboro, William Jordan of Queens, N.Y., Roy Jordan of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Robert Jordan of Aliquippa, Pa.; two sisters, Carrie Ganus of Arapahoe and Roberta Moore of Grantsboro; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Peele Seay
Marjorie Peele Seay, 79, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was formerly of Bayboro and was a member of Pamlico United Methodist Church.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pamlico United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Field officiating.
She is survived by one son, Harry Seay of Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Sylvia Garcia of Newport News, Va.; three sisters, Mary Day of Merritt, Zena Reed of Baltimore, Md., and Gloria Gross of Whiting, N.J.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Mary Day, 5416 Florence Road, Merritt.

William Walter Rogers
BAYBORO -- William Walter Rogers, 71, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Craven Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Bayboro Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Heather Jean Woolard. Mr. Rogers was a retired school teacher with Craven County and also worked as a small engine mechanic.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith United Methodist Church with Pastor Hal Harbin officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Jean A. Rogers of the home; one son, Darrell W. Rogers of Bayboro; two daughters, Debbie Wisuthseriwong of Raleigh and Janie R. Gay of Reelsboro; one brother, Billy Rogers of Reelsboro; two sisters, Virginia Melvin of Maysville and Peggy Leonard of Smithfield; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Myra Sawyer Jarvis
WASHINGTON, N.C. -- Myra Sawyer Jarvis, 81, of 602 Kinston St. died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at her residence.
She was a native of Pamlico County. She was a homemaker and retired sales associate with Belk's of Washington, and was a member of Everett's Church of Christ, serving as youth choir pianist, adult choir pianist, church pianist, and youth sponsor. 
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Everett's Church of Christ with Dennis Davis and Jim Cooper officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Jackie B. Jarvis of Washington; one brother, Ellis B. Sawyer Sr. of Washington; one adopted brother, Jack Canady of Norfolk, Va.; two granddaughters; one stepgrandson; one great-grandson; and one stepgreat-grandson.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at Hillside Funeral Service, Washington.

Robert D. Silveira
NEW BERN -- Robert D. Silveira, 61, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at Craven Regional Medical Center.
He was married for 34 years to his wife, Ann Silveira, was a volunteer for Craven County Schools, a member of Havelock Civitan Club and a regular usher at Annunciation Catholic Church. He retired with Civil Service at Cherry Point.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock with Rev. Dr. William F. Walsh, O.S.F.S. officiating.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Roeder and husband, Jason, of Katy, TX; a son, Stephen Silveira of New Bern; his mother, Delores Silveira of Middletown, R.I.; four sisters, Patricia Soares and husband, Tony of Middletown, R.I., Ann Baseley of Palm Springs, CA, Carolyn Darney and husband, Dan of Fort Pierce, FL, Jean Cottrell and husband, Bill of Springfield, TN; and a granddaughter, Taylor Roeder.

Anne Delk Pryor Juck
MERRITT -- Anne Delk Pryor Juck, 85, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Britthaven of Pamlico.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern, NC, and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Oriental, NC, and a member of Pamlico County Sixty Plus Club.
Mrs. Juck retired from IBM Corporation after 43 years in the Washington, DC area. She was the first female employee of IBM in DC. She lived in Washington from high school until her retirement from IBM in 1976, and moved to Middletown, VA, where she lived for 20 years. She was a resident of Pamlico County, North Carolina, since 1996.
She was a lifetime member of Middletown, VA Auxiliary Fire and Rescue, the Middletown Methodist Women's Club, and the Winchester, VA Christian Women's Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Johanne Pryor of Merritt, NC and two brothers, Rodham T. Delk, Sr. of Smithfield, VA and Frank S. Delk, Sr. of Richmond, VA; and 10 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Delk Bouknight of Columbia, SC, and a brother, O. Gordon Delk, Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday March 18 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Oriental, NC with the Rev. Mr. Jeremiah Day officiating. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Smithfield, VA.
The family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance, NC from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16.

Sybil Hickman Forrest
VANDEMERE -- Sybil Hickman Forrest, 99, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Britthaven of Pamlico.
She was the oldest member of Vandemere United Methodist Church. She was a past member of Order of Eastern Star, Vandemere Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to sew and cook for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Drew Forrest; two sons, Ralph Forrest and his wife, Joyce, and Edward Forrest; one daughter, Ruth Layton; and one granddaughter, Cheryl Nicholls.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Dickie Layton and wife, Nannett Layton of Fredricksburg, VA; Chuck Forrest and wife, Wanda, of Oriental, Wendy Davis and husband, Tony, of Vandemere, and Eddie Forrest and wife, Kelly, of New Bern; daughter-in-law, Letha Forrest of Vandemere, 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Vandemere United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Roach officiating.
Burial will be in Celestial Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Allen Ray Tompkins
ORIENTAL -- Allen Ray Tompkins, 62, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at Britthaven of Pamlico.
Allen Ray will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, good friend with a wonderful sense of humor and a joy to have known and loved. He was born in Pamlico County and raised his children in New Bern before retiring in Oriental.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Tompkins; one son, Jason Andrew Tompkins of Oriental; four daughters, Fran Tompkins and Kathy Tompkins O'Connor of Orlando, FL, Cookie Tompkins Ryan of Lake Worth, FL and Penny Lynn Tompkins Gopichand of Jacksonville, NC; one sister, Geneva Buck of Alliance; three grandchildren, Sean Allen O'Connor, Rachel Lauren Gopichand and Chelsea Kathryn Gopichand.

ORIENTAL -- Louise S. Titcomb, 96, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at her home. She was a member of Oriental United Methodist Church, a member of the church choir and a former member of Oriental Women's Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Sue Creighton of Dunn; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her widower, Howard G. Conover; three sons, Edward Lyon of Warrenton, Va., Bob Lyon of Oriental, and Sonny Conover of Oriental; one daughter, Eve Sharp of New Bern; one brother, Fredrick Brunn of Wading River, N.Y.; one sister, Lillian Johns of Brightwaters, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

BAYBORO -- Bridget Whitney Gibbs, 40, of 14081 N.C. Hwy. 55, died Sunday at Craven Regional Medical Center.
She was a 1979 graduate of Pamlico County High School, she was a member of the Junior Choir, Assistant Director of the Junior Youth Department and Choir of her church, and she was formerly employed with Craven Regional Medical Center.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, Oriental, with Pastor Serinus G. Willis officiating.
Burial will be in St. Stephen M.B. Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her widower, Rufus A. Gibbs III of the home; her mother, Nancy Janette Whitney of Oriental; one stepson, DeShawn Adams of Aurora; one brother, Joey Whitney of Oriental; one sister, Valerie W. Ellison of Upper Marlboro, Md.; her maternal grandmother, Mollie Bell Davis of Oriental; and one stepmaternal grandmother, Jennie Bell of New Bern.
