   George, Leila Bertha Sloan "Lena," 101, of Tom Sessions Road, Whiteville died Monday at Southeastern Rehabilitation Center, Fayetteville.    B.E. 'BILL' HUFFINE 
   B.E. "Bill" Huffine of Wilmington, North Carolina, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. 
   He was born August 1, 1925 in Putnam County, Tennessee to Melvin C. Huffine and Flossie Huffine. 
   After attending Tennessee Technological Institute in Cookeville, Tennessee, Mr. Huffine worked in the housing and construction industry before moving to Wilmington in 1957 where he remained active as a real estate and business broker until his death. 
   Mr. Huffine was active in professional and civic affairs, having served as President of the Wilmington Board of Realtors and the North Carolina Azalea Festival, and as an Elder and Clerk of the Session for St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was an avid hunter and sportsman and served as President of the North Carolina Trial Association, and as a member of the Advisory Committee of the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. 
   Mr. Huffine is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha E. Huffine a daughter, Susan H. Mercer and husband Jeff Mercer; a son, David E. Huffine and wife Anne B. Huffine; five grandchildren, Heather M. Mercer, Justin E. Mercer, Lauren E. Mercer, William B. Huffine and Leigh A. Huffine, all of Wilmington; and one nephew, Richard C. Patton of Palm Harbor Florida. 
   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 at St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church by Rev. Steven Hein and Rev. David Jenkins. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. 
   The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, 2001 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel.

   MR. JOSEPH CRANE WEEKS 
   ROCKY POINT - Joseph Crane Weeks, 66, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at his home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. 
   Mr. Weeks was born July 19, 1934 in Garrett County, MD and was the son of the late Raymond L. and Gladys Crane Weeks. 
   He was employed in the insurance industry for twenty-three years as an agent for State Farm Insurance Company and a regional sales manager for Federal Kemper Insurance Company. In later years, he was the owner of an after market auto and truck parts business in Hagerstown, MD, from which he retired in 1996. He was a US Army veteran. He was a member of Rocky Point Baptist Church, Rocky Point, NC. 
   Surviving are his wife of forty-four years, Joann Hollen Weeks; son, Joseph C. Weeks II of Rocky Point, NC; daughter, Jennifer C. Hoyt and husband, Larry of Pinellas Park, FL; grandson, Zachary Hoyt of Pinellas Park, FL; sisters, Marjorie W. DeBerry of Cocoa, FL, Jo-Ann Dodge, his twin sister, of Finksburg, MD and Rayma Jean Weeks of Mt. Lake Park, MD; and brother, Ralph H. Weeks, who preceded him in death. 
   Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Rocky Point Baptist Church, Rocky Point, NC with the Rev. Darryll Hester officiating. 
   A funeral service will be held at Durst Funeral Home Chapel, Oakland, MD, with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. 
   Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Oakland, MD.

   MARIAN S. DANIEL 
   Marian S. Daniel of Wilmington, NC died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Liberty Commons Assisted Living. 
   She was born January 5, 1912 in Wilmington, NC, daughter of the late Albert and Margaret Keys Small, and was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Math Daniel. 
   Mrs. Daniel was a member of First Christian Church. She was a volunteer for many years at the Senior Citizens Center and the American Red Cross. Mrs. Daniel worked as a dietician at James Walker Hospital and at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. 
   Surviving are her two sons, Sam W. Daniel Sr. and wife Helen of Durham, NC and Dr. Robert M. Daniel and wife Kathy of Tahlequah, OK; three grandchildren, Sam W. Daniel Jr., Charlotte Daniel, and Anderson Daniel. 
   Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Oakdale Cemetery by Rev. Daniel Webster. 
   The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel.

   HARRY R0BINS0N McCARTNEY 
   Harry Robinson McCartney of Wilmington, NC died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at his residence. 
   He was born March 11, 1923 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late Harry C. and Ila Byers McCartney. 
   Mr. McCartney was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the Army Air Force. He was a Firefighter for the City of Wilmington, retiring after twenty years of service, after which he worked at Wal-Mart of Monkey Junction. 
   Surviving are his wife, Janice Craig McCartney of the home; four children, Brenda Faye Colvin of Virginia Beach, VA, Harry Eugene McCartney and wife Flora of Milton, FL, Steven Wayne McCartney and wife Tonya of Wilmington, NC, and Janice Marie Johns and husband Douglas of Wilmington, NC; seven granddaughters; and one brother, Richard Byers McCartney of Wilmington, NC. 
   Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Oleander Memorial Gardens by Dr. Marc Drake. 
   The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel.

   ALMA EARLE FULLWOOD 
   ELIZABETHTOWN - Alma Earle Fullwood, 79, died Wednesday, February 28th, 2001 at home. She was retired as a floral artist associated with several florists in Wilmington and Wallace Florist in Elizabethtown. 
   Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery, 520 North 15th Street, Wilmington, NC with the Reverend David Elks officiating. 
   Survivors include: a sister, Dorothy Merritt of Scotts Hill, NC; a brother, Rodney Fullwood of Jacksonville, FL and her dear and loving friend, Mattie Ward of Elizabethtown and several nieces and nephews. 
   Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2nd from 2 - 4 at Kinlaw Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and from 7 - 9 at Andrews Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road in Wilmington.

   CLARENCE J. BROWN 
   BURLINGTON - Clarence J. Brown passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001 after an extended period of declining health. 
   Mr. Brown was born in 1913 in Duplin County, NC and grew up in the town of Warsaw. He graduated in 1934 from North Carolina State College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. The following year he joined the Duke Power Company in Winston-Salem. 
   After America's entry into World War II, Mr. Brown enlisted in 1942 with the U.S. Navy. He enrolled in an intensive training program in radar theory and maintenance, and for most of the War was assigned to Carrier Aircraft Service Unit Two stationed in Hawaii. 
   After the War, Mr. Brown secured employment with the Western Electric Company and eventually transferred to its affiliated company, Bell Laboratories. Until he retired in 1975, his career was devoted to the development of radar systems supporting our nation's anti-aircraft and, later, anti-ballistic missile systems. 
   Mr. Brown will be remembered for his lifelong passion for playing the piano. He was also a supporter of libraries and was particularly proud to have been named a Director Emeritus of the Friends of the Library, Elon College. 
   A resident of Burlington, NC since 1951, he is survived by his devoted wife Mildred Jones Brown of Burlington, brother Lee Brown and his wife Jean of Warsaw, NC, son Gordon Brown and his wife Claudia of Raleigh, NC, daughter Jane Frost Anderson and her husband Frank of Spartanburg, SC, granddaughter Katie Wall and her children Deborah Jane and Alexandra, all of Spartanburg, SC. 
   A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 2 at the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington. The family will receive friends in Calvin Hall immediately following the service. 
   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the Elon University Library in Elon, N.C. 
   
   FRANCENE BUGG 
   Francene Bugg, 82, died February 27 in Germantown, TN, following a long illness. She leaves her husband of 64 years, George M. Bugg. 
   She also leaves four children, Frank M. Bugg (JoAnn) of Huntsville, AL, Dr. William Bugg (Ginny) of Birmingham, AL, Fran Bugg of Tallahassee, FL, and Vicki Blacet (Paul) of Wilmington, NC. In addition, she leaves two sisters, Jane M. Pople (the late A.R.) of Germantown, and Martha M. Wood (Jim) of Forest Park, GA, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. 
   She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Frank E. Maxwell of Memphis, and her brother, Frank F. Maxwell of Conroe, TX. 
   Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, at the First Baptist Church of Memphis, where three generations of her family have been members. Services will be at 11 a.m., also at the church, with burial service following at Memphis Memorial Park. Memphis Funeral Home officiating. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 200 East Parkway N., Memphis, TN 38112, or any local Alzheimer's Association.
