MRS. JOYCE PEPPER GRUBBS
SURF CITY - Mrs. Joyce Pepper Grubbs, age 50, of Surf City, died Monday, September 18, 2000 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Grubbs was born June 3, 1950 in Boiling Springs, NC a daughter of the late Ike and Ina Greene Pepper. She was a member of Faith Harbor United Methodist Church in Surf City.
Surviving are her husband, George Ray Grubbs Sr. of the home; one daughter Samantha "Sami" O'Briant of Wilmington; two sons, George Ray Grubbs, Jr. of Greensboro and Todd Grubbs of Winston-Salem; two very loving sisters, Judy Pepper of New Jersey and Nancy Ogburn of Morrisville, NC one grandchild, Miranda Grubbs; one niece Mary Ann Pappas and one nephew, Sergei Pepper.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2000 at Faith Harbor United Methodist Church Chapel (located beside Wings) in Surf City. MRS. INEZ DAVIS DAVIS
Mrs. Inez Davis Davis, age 87, of Cliffside died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 at Rutherford Hospital.
She was a native of Cherokee Co., SC, daughter of the late Rome and Lettie Owens Davis. She was a homemaker, a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church and was the widow of Howard D. Davis. She is survived by four sons, Eugene Davis of Cliffside, Larry Davis of Shelby, R.P. Davis of Wilmington and Charles Davis of Carrolton, GA; three daughters, Annette Robbins of Henrietta, Brenda Black of Spindale and Babe Carver of Forest City; one brother, Winfred Davis of Gaffney; two sisters, Beuna McCraw of Gaffney and Firleen Holt of Ellenboro; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with Rev. Don Gibbs and Rev. Ronnie Robbins officiating.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

JERE LEONARD DANFORD
Jere Leonard Danford, age 64, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center due to complications from cancer. Jere was born February 10, 1936 in New Hanover County, the son of Ruby Leonard Danford and the late John William Danford. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District after 37 years of service.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Carol Sharpe Danford of the home. Two sons, Jere Michael Danford and wife Suzanne Gibson Danford of St Joseph, MI. and Gregory P. Danford of Raleigh. One sister, Kathy Danford Edgerton of Wilmington. Two grandchildren, Kendall and Kayla Danford. He is also survived by his Granddog "Jordan."
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2000 at Oleander Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gordon Wright officiating.
In lieu of visits to the home, the family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday evening September 21, 2000 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel.

EULA MAE LONG WALTERS
WHITEVILLE - Eula Mae Long Walters, 68, of Whiteville died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at the Columbus County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Henry Long and Alma Lee Clewis. She was also a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; Lenue Walters of the home, daughter, Donna Jemison Armstrong of Bladenboro, NC, son, Guy Jemison of Bladenboro, N.C., sister, Sue L. McPherson of Chadbourn, N.C., brothers, Louis E. Long of Whiteville, N.C., James Elton Long of Whiteville, N.C., Horace Ray Long of Tabor City, N.C..
Memorial services will be Friday, September 22, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bervin Ferguson officiating.

OLA JUNE CLIFTON
Ola June Clifton of 217 N. 23rd St., Wilmington, NC died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 3, 1938 in Dallas, TX, daughter of the late Olan Alonzo and Jessie Gail Nivens Clifton.
Mrs. Clifton was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church. She was a school teacher and counselor in the Washington, DC School District, the Long Island, NY School System, and the New Hanover County School System. In 1962, she served two years in Ethiopia, 1 with the Peace Corps. She was a member of the local chapter of the Breast Cancer Survivor's Group.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Taube; one daughter, Jessica Taube, both of the home; a brother, Joe Clifton of Sulphur Springs, TX; one sister, Patricia Jacks of Tyler, TX; her aunt, Ruby L. Nivens of Sulphur Springs, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2000 at Congregation B'Nai Israel, 26th Street and Chestnut Street.
The family will receive friends at the residence from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday through Wednesday, with prayers to be said each day at sunset.

ELIZABETH 'LEN' VIRGINIA GIBSON
Elizabeth "Len" Virginia Gibson of Wilmington, NC died Tuesday, September 12, 2000.
She was born on March 18, 1964 in Gastonia, NC, the daughter of James Henry Gibson Sr. and Virginia Gibson.
Surviving in addition to her parents is a very special friend, Karen Knight; two brothers, Ralph Gibson and James Henry Gibson Jr.; two sisters, Ann Coleman and Mary Gibson; a stepson, Brandon Gibson; one niece and two nephews.
Private memorial services will be held.

NOLIE IVALEE SMITH
ASH - Nolie Ivalee Smith, 74, of Ludlum Road, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000, at her residence.
Ms. Smith was born on December 18, 1925, in Brunswick County. She was a daughter of the late Manuel D. and Quillie Ludlum Smith. She was preceded in death in 1988 by her husband, J.W. Smith, who together founded JWS Logging, Inc.
She is survived by three sons; Jerry O. Smith, and wife, Shirley, Johnnie D. Smith, and wife, Violet, Larry D. Smith, and wife, Brenda, all of Ash, NC; three brothers, Dalton Smith, Dorsey Smith, Fay Smith, all of Ash, NC; two sisters, Nita Smith, and Leola Babson, both from Ash, NC; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 22nd, at 3:00 p.m., in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, by the Rev. Alan Gibson, Rev. William Chappell, and Rev. Chip Hannah. Burial will follow in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 21st, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
