   GARNER - Elizabeth "Dot" Adams Smith, 90, of 1610 Edenderry Court, formerly of Yaupon Beach and Greensboro died Wednesday. 
   Graveside service 1:00 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery, Greensboro, NC. 
   Surviving daughter, Nancy Leggett of Bolivia, NC; sons, Robert L. Smith Jr. of Garner and Clifford Wayne Smith of Butner, NC; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

  MRS. EARLEEN G. HARRELSON 
   Mrs. Earleen G. Harrelson, age 64, of Hamer, SC died Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. 
   Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Versie Graham of Pines Nursing Home, Dillon, SC, her daughter, Kay Bridgers of Wilmington, NC her brother Thomas "Buck" Graham of Dillon, SC. Three grandchildren, Melissa Bridgers, Christopher Bridgers and Michael Bridgers all of Wilmington. 
   Visitation will be on Friday, September 1, 2000 from 7 to 8 at Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon, SC. 
   Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Dillon, SC at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2000. 
   
  FRANK PAUL PURDY 
   Frank Paul Purdy of Rocky Point, N.C., went to meet Jesus Sunday, August 27, 2000 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. 
   He was born in Wake County on March 10, 1947, the son of the late Lewis William and Edna Paul Purdy. 
   Mr. Purdy was a member and past deacon of Burgaw Presbyterian Church. He was the owner and operator of Dee's Drugs in Burgaw, NC since 1980. He was a 1972 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his pharmacy degree. He was a member of King Solomon Lodge # 138 AF&AM and the Wilmington Scottish Rite Bodies and Sudan Temple. 
   Surviving are his wife, Debra Witzler Purdy of the home; one son, Jason Witzler Purdy and wife Casey of Cary, NC; one daughter, Emily Rosina Purdy of the home; one brother, James Purdy and wife Penny of Florida. 
   Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 2, 2000 at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel by Rev. Horace Hilton. 
   The family will receive friends from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Friday at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel.

  RICHARD MICHAEL (MIKE) COLEY 
   Richard Michael (Mike) Coley, age 49, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2000. 
   Mike was the son of Edward and Betty Coley of Raleigh, NC. 
   He attended Needham Broughton High School and North Carolina State University. Mr. Coley was retired and living in Wilmington, NC with his wife, Barbara; and their two sons, Richard and John. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Patricia, and her children, Leigh, David, and Willis Coley. He was preceded in death by his brother, David. 
   A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2000 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. 
   A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2000 in Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington, NC. Following the graveside service, friends are invited to a celebration of Mike's life at the Blockade Runner Hotel and Resort.

  CLARENCE RICHARDSON SPIVEY JR. 
   Clarence Richardson Spivey Jr. of Wilmington, NC died peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2000 after a short illness. 
   He was born in Whiteville, NC on August 13, 1917, son of the late Clarence Richardson Spivey, Sr. and Mary Love Watkins Spivey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother James Spivey of Wilmington, NC; a brother, Thomas Spivey of St. George, SC; and sisters, Mary Lou Spivey Finch of Wilmington, NC and Thelma Spivey Reeves of St. Petersburg, FL. 
   He served as a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy from 1937-1941 and in the United States Merchant Marines 1943-1946. Mr. Spivey was the devoted and beloved husband of O'Dell George Spivey for fifty-two years. They owned and operated Spivey's Clothiers on North Fourth Street in Wilmington for over fifty years, where he was known for his friendly manner and generosity to everyone. Mr. Spivey was a past member of the Elks, and a current member of Temple Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School teacher for junior boys for many years. 
   Along with his wife, he is survived by his brother, Dr. Robert Spivey of Santee, CA; a sister-in-law, Sadie Mae Spivey of St. George, SC; a niece, Beth Parish Wagner and husband Richard Wagner, Sr. of New Bern, NC; great nephews, Richard Wagner Jr. and wife Wendy, and Christopher Wagner and wife Jennifer, both of New Bern, NC; many other nieces and nephews throughout the country; and a special employee and longtime friend, Mrs. Mary Bass. 
   Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2000 in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington, NC, officiated by Rev. Dr. James D. Whetstone of Temple Baptist Church. 
   The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, corner of 17th Street and Market Street, and also at the cemetery following the service.

  MRS. ESTELLE ROUSE 
   Mrs. Estelle Rouse, 91, of 1008 South Kerr Avenue, died Wednesday, August 30, 2000 at Britthaven of Wrightsville Beach. 
   She was born January 2, 1909 in New Hanover County, daughter of the late Marson Smith and Rose Ann Shipman, and was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Rouse Jr.; a grandson, Nathan B. Barnes Jr.; and two brothers Marson Shipman and Alvie Shipman. 
   Mrs. Rouse was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church for over fifty years where she served as a GA Leader for many years. At one time she was employed by the New Hanover County Sheriff's Department as a School Guard at Winter Park School, where she loved and cared for the children as her own. 
   Surviving are her son, Robert Lee Rouse III and wife Mearline of Wilmington, NC; one daughter, Rosaline Barnes and husband Nathan of Wallace, NC; one sister, Annie Bell Chinnis and husband S.D. of Castle Hayne, NC; four grandchildren, Robert Lee Rouse IV, Debra Rouse Davis, Robert Lewis Barnes, and Richard Roderick Barnes; and five great-grandchildren, Trevor Davis, Travis Davis, Chelsey Barnes, Chasity Barnes, and Richard L. Barnes. 
   A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2000 in Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Michael R. Tutterow.

  RUBY CARTER KORNEGAY 
   WHITEVILLE - Mrs. Ruby Carter Kornegay, age 93, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2000 at Premier Health Care Center of Lake Waccamaw. Mrs. Kornegay was the widow of the late Mr. Gordon Kornegay and a former resident of Kenansville. 
   Surviving Mrs. Kornegay are one daughter, Mrs. Pat Kornegay Paschal of Whiteville; one son, Dr. William Gordon Kornegay of Sunderland, Mass.; two grandchildren: Mr. Art Paschal and wife, Susan and Ms. Joanie Paschal Malery and husband, Will; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Louise Carter Bullock of Mt. Olive, and Mrs. Ruth Carter Pakenton of Roper. 
   Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2000 at Devotional Gardens, Highway 24/50 East, Warsaw, NC. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon, prior to service, at Community Funeral Home, 1654 Highway 24/50 East, Warsaw, NC.

  MRS. ANNIE DELL MOORE HORRELL 
   BURGAW - Annie Dell Moore Horrell, age 88, died Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at Huntington Health Care. 
   Mrs. Horrell was born, July 27, 1912, in Pender County and was the daughter of the late Major McDonough and Mattie Croom Moore. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Horrell, in 1985; her son, Kenneth Ray Horrell and son-in-law, Gerald Murray. 
   She was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. 
   Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Murray and husband Jerry of Monroe, Sylvia Ketch and husband Lew of Portland, OR, Rose Murray of Elizabethtown and Emily Skinner and husband A.C. of Hampstead; son, Donnie Horrell and wife Carolyn of Garner; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. 
   Funeral service will be 3:00 Saturday at Forest Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Elbert Bradshaw officiating. 
   Burial will follow in Moores Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. 
   The family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw, and at other times will be at the home of Steve and Lynn Dee Skinner, 108 Cutters Trail, Burgaw.

  DON TOLBERT EVANS SR. 
   ROCKY MOUNT - Don Evans Sr., an attorney in Rocky Mount, NC, died at home on Wednesday, the 30th August, 2000. He was born in Nashville, TN, the son of Judson Holt Evans and wife, Olivia Elizabeth Cawthorne Evans. 
   He grew up in Enfield, NC, and graduated from Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, VA. After his freshman year at Wake Forest College, he joined the V-12 program at Duke University, finishing his degree in Chemical Engineering at Georgia Technical College in Atlanta, Ga. He received his Naval Officer Training at Columbia University, New York City, after which he served in the Pacific Theatre as a navigator on a troop transport ship. Following World War II, Mr. Evans received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his LLB from its Law School. 
   Mr. Evans practiced law in Rocky Mount for many years. He was a member of the Nash-Edgecombe Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar. He served on the Board of governors of the NC Bar Association, and had served as President of its Young Lawyers Division. He originated and implemented the Practical Skills course for newly licensed lawyers, and was its chairman for 11 years. He had formerly served as Chairman of the Democratic Party Board of Elections for Nash County. He was a member of the Christian Legal Society, the Jaycees, the Kiwanis Club, Promise Keepers and Benvenue Country Club, and had also given service to the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and other organizations. He sang in the Carl Stough Chorale. He was an avid golfer. 
   Mr. Evans was very active in Christian endeavors. He taught Sunday School, sang bass in the choir, and twice served as Lay Leader at First United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount. He later taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount. Over many years he served as coordinator of numerous Lay Witness Missions, taking teams into North Carolina and Virginia churches to share their Christian testimonies. With the help of others, Mr. Evans organized the Rocky Mount Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International, an interdenominational organization for which he served as an International Director. Later, he organized the Christian Businessmen's Fellowship International. 
   Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret Perry Griffin Evans, and immediate family: Dr. Margaret G. Evans of Raleigh, Dr. J. Holt Evans II and wife, Donna Wright Evans, daughter Elizabeth Cawthorne Evans and son, Don Tolbert Evans Jr., Esq., three grandsons, Judson Holt Evans III, Lloyd Griffin Evans, and Boyce Strickland Evans, all of Wilmington, NC; one sister, Betsy Evans Ellis, her three sons, Brown, Holt and Blair Glenn, and her husband, Dr. Theodore Richard Ellis III, of Greenville, NC; sister-in-law, Mary Griffin Douglass of Raleigh, NC, and brother-in-law, Dr. Lloyd Eldon Griffin and wife Mary Hadley Griffin of Elizabeth City, NC; first cousins, Dr. Cecil Howell Neville Jr. and wife Cater Baxley Neville of Pinehurst, Martha Evans Griffin and Henry Erwin Griffin Jr. and wife Sandra, all of Charlotte, NC. 
   In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 South Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804; the Lake Waccamaw Center for Boys; or to House the Children of Rocky Mount. 
   There will be a private burial service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. An open memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2000. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the church, and afterwards at the home, 612 Falls Road, Rocky Mount, NC, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

  HENRY EUGENE WRIGHT 
   SUPPLY - Mr. Henry Eugene Wright, age 59, of 1981 Cameron Dr., Supply, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at his residence. 
   Mr. Wright was born March 15, 1941, in Lancaster, S.C., and was the son of the late Claude Henry and Iris Mae Stroud Wright. He was a honorary member of Holden Beach V.F.W. Post 8866 and a honorary member of the Shallotte Moose Lodge. He was a lifetime member of N.C. Wildlife Association. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during Vietnam. He retired from Hoescht Celanese of Charlotte. 
   He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Wright of Charlotte; a son, Timothy Eugene Wright of Marion, NC; a sister, Susy Presson of Matthews; a grandson, Michael Wright; a niece, Casey Jean Presson and a nephew, Joshua Presson. 
   A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2000, at 8 p.m. at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Supply Chapel. 
   The family will receive friends Saturday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.
