   Bowman, Charles Elmer, 84, of 446 W. Main St., Magnolia, died Friday at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital. Arrangements will be announced by Padgett Funeral Home, Wallace. 
   
   Cobbs, Bessie, 76, of Chester, Pa., and formerly of Dudley died Thursday at Crozer Medical Hospital. Arrangements will be announced by Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro. 
   
   Evans, Naheeme Justin, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Evans of Bolivia died Friday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Evans Cemetery, Bolivia. Peoples Funeral Home, Shallotte.

   Holmes, George W. "Bro George," 88, of 2607 McClammey St., formerly of 409 Henry St., died Thursday in Cypress Pointe Health Care Center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Smith's Funeral Home. 
   
   Lanier, Lillie Albertson, 88, died Saturday at Guardian Care, Kenansville. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at Community Funeral Home, Beulaville. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Albertson Family Cemetery. 
   
   McCarroll, Sgt. William Clavin Sr. USMC RET., of Castle Hayne died Friday at Britthaven of Northchase. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. today at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. 
   
   McKinzie, Ashbe, 78, of 3013 Thoroughfare Road, Goldsboro, died Saturday at home. Arrangements will be announced by Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro. 
   
   Mitchell, Olena Rhodes "Sue," of Pittsburgh, formerly of Lake Waccamaw, died Friday at home. Arrangements will be announced by John H. Shaw's Sons Funeral Home. 
   
   Rutland, Charles, of 10G Garden Lake Estates died Friday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Adkins-Drain Funeral Service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. 
   
   Thompson, Billy, 43, of 2617 Halfway Branch School Road, Ivanhoe, died Friday at home. Arrangements will be announced by Dunn Funeral Home, Burgaw. 
   
   Weant, Annie Kathleen, of Salisbury died Saturday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Calvary Lutheran Church, Spencer. Burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park. Lyerly Funeral Home. 
   
   Williams, Margaret, 71, of 902 Slaughter St., Goldsboro died Friday at home. Arrangements will be announced by Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro. 
   
   ROBERT E. VOGELIN 
   Robert E. Vogelin, age 75, of 2716 Shandy Lane, Wilmington, N.C. died Friday, August 25, 2000, at his residence. Bob was born July 4, 1925, in Binghamton, N.Y., to the late Raymond K. and Grace Adams Vogelin and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley Selby. 
   He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater, with the 28th Infantry. Bob fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Cornell University, where he was a member of Lambda, Chi Alpha Fraternity. 
   Bob was employed with I.B.M. Corp. and I.B.M. World Trade Corp. for 38 years in a variety of assignments at I.B.M. World Headquarters in N.Y. City and its European headquarters in Paris, France. While in Paris he was an active member of the American Church in Paris, serving as a Deacon, a member of the Prudential Committee and treasurer. Since retiring to Wilmington, Bob has been a member of the Wilmington Philatelic Society serving in offices, including president. He is also a member of the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church, where he has been active the past years serving as moderator of the Deacons and on various committees. 
   He is survived by his wife, Dottie Justice Vogelin of the home; one stepdaughter, Sallie Tribou of Wilmington; one sister, Dorothy Sortman of Binghamton N.Y.; six grandchildren, Penny Cox and husband Tom, Rodman Tribou, Amy Tribou, Tanner Tribou, Megan Tribou and Paige Tribou all of Wilmington; one great-granddaughter, Bradleigh Tribou of Wilmington. 
   Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2000, at the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Huw Christopher officiating. Entombment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. 
   The family received friends 4-5 p.m. Sunday evening August 27, 2000, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Oleander Chapel. 
   In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Little Chapel on The Boardwalk Presbyterian Church at 2 W. Fayetteville St. Wrightsville Beach NC 28480, or to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center at 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington NC 28401.

   PERIDA ROBERTSON ROLAND 
   Perida Robertson Roland of Wilmington, N.C., died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at Liberty Commons Assisted Living Center. 
   She was born June 21, 1900, in Burnsville, N.C., daughter of the late W. Burdett and Mary Ella Skerry Robertson, and was preceded in death by her husband, Herrick Milton Roland. 
   Mrs. Roland was a member of St. James Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was active in the American Legion, the North Carolina Sorosis Club, and the Thursday Morning Music Club. 
   Surviving are her two daughters, Dorothy Norako and husband Vincent of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Mary Tinga and husband Eelco of Castle Hayne, N.C.; one brother, W. B. Robertson and wife Clarene of Blanco, TX; four grandchildren, Vincent W. Norako Jr. and wife Karen of Williamsburg, VA, Eelco Tinga Jr. and wife Linda of Wilmington, N.C., Dorothy Nichols and husband I.B. of Raleigh, N.C., and Herrick Tinga and wife Sheri of Castle Hayne, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren, Kate Norako, Jennifer Norako and Vincent R. Norako, all of Williamsburg, Va., Kelly Tinga of Gastonia, N.C., Eelco Tinga, III and wife Melissa of Castle Hayne, N.C., Kimberly Tinga of Wilmington, N.C., Isham Nichols and Ricky Nichols, of Raleigh, N.C., and Darcy Tinga of Wilmington, N.C.; a dear friend and companion, Evelena Williams of Wilmington, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. 
   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2000 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel by the Rev. Ron. Abrams. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. 
   Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

   MRS. LOLA SHUKRE CANOUTAS 
   Mrs. Lola Shukre Canoutas, age 89, of Wilmington, North Carolina, died Friday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. 
   Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church with the Reverend Father Regis John Alexoudis officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. 
   The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday with The Trisagion Services at 7:30 p.m. at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. 
   Memorials may be made to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 608 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403. 
   
   MRS. BETTY VIRGINIA BELL MINTZ 
   Mrs. Betty Virginia Bell Mintz of Brunswick Cove Nursing Center died Saturday, August 26, 2000, at her residence. 
   She was born in Pink Hill, N.C., on February 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Lilly Deaver Bell and was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Mintz. 
   Mrs. Mintz was a seamstress with Extraordinary Talent, which she was owner for many years. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. 
   Surviving are her children; John J. Mintz of Raleigh, N.C., Charles A. Mintz and Michael A. Mintz both of Leland, N.C.; three grandchildren, Allison L. Mintz, Charles J. Mintz, and Jacob Mintz; a niece, Nadine Bell of Topeka, KS. 
   Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2000, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Interment will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. 
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the ARC, Association of Retarded Citizens of Brunswick County.

   MR. GORDON BEST POWELL 
   CLINTON - Mr. Gordon Best Powell, 85, of 1002 Raleigh Rd. died in Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C., Saturday, August 26, 2000. 
   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. from Grove Park Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Shook & Rev. Roy Clifton officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park. 
   Born in 1915 in Sampson County, Mr. Powell was the son of the late Luvie James and Mary Elizabeth Carr Powell. He was a charter member of Grove Park Baptist Church having served as Training Union Director, Sunday School Teacher, Department Director, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Board of Deacons and several church committees. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII, a retired Postal employee, having served as Postmaster, an employee with Sampson County Sheriff's Department and the N.C. Department of Corrections. 
   He is survived by three Sons: Kirby D. Powell of Newland, N.C., Johnny B. Powell of Clinton and Paul D. Powell of Wilmington; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. 
   The family received friends Sunday night from 7 till 9 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home and other times at his home. 
   The family asked that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 609 N.E. Blvd., Clinton, NC 28328. 
   
   GLENDA J. BRUTON 
   SENECA, formerly of Myrtle Beach - Glenda J. Bruton, age 71, wife of the late Allen McDonald Bruton Jr., of Seneca, formerly of Myrtle Beach, died Saturday, August 26, 2000, in Seneca. 
   Mrs. Bruton was born April 22, 1929, in Brunswick County, N.C., a daughter of the late Horry Alton and Ola Causey Jenrette. 
   Surviving are one son, Freddie Hickman of Calabash, N.C.; one daughter, Sarah Hickman Gurganus of Shallotte, N.C.; one sister, Gloria Bennett of Wendell, N.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 
   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with the Rev. Martha Edgerton officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Stan Gurganus, Kevin Smith, Randy Ward, Eddie Bennett, Billy Hickman and Rick Hickman. 
   The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Monday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
