CHERYL STARK CAMPBELL
Cheryl Stark Campbell, 71, of Wilmington, NC, died Friday,
August 4, 2000.
She was born August 22, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter
of the late Rawson and Gertrude Bogart Stark, and was preceded in death
by her husband, Donald C. Campbell.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan Campbell Venters and
husband John; and two granddaughters, Caitlin Faith Venters and Colleen
Campbell Venters, all of Wilmington, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 11: 00 a.m. Tuesday,
August 8, 2000, in Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel.

MR. THOMAS BENJAMIN 'BEN' POPE
BURGAW - Thomas Benjamin "Ben" Pope, age 85, died Saturday,
August 5, 2000, at Pender Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Pope was born February 6, 1915, in Pender County and
was the son of the late W.O. and Annie Bordeaux Pope.
Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Nellie of the home;
children, Tommy Pope, Sandy Steinmark and Olive Hollinger all of Burgaw;
six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Herrings Chapel
United Methodist Church with Pastor Douglas Lukens and the Rev. William
Hill Pearsall officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MRS. JEANETTE STOWITTS HOVEY
WALLACE - Mrs. Jeanette Stowitts Hovey, age 85, of 604
East Lanier St., in Wallace, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 11
a.m. from Rock|fish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace conducted by Dr. Dennis
Bazemore.
She is survived by two sons, James Carlton Hovey and wife,
Joyce and John Churchill Hovey and wife Mary of Churchill, MD. Mrs. Hovey
was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carlton Hovey; a son, Lawrence
George Hovey; and a brother, George Stowitts.
A native of New York Mrs. Hovey was the daughter of the
late John Franklin Roosevelt and Irene Church Stowitts. She was a former
member of St. Marks Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be

MR. GEORGE HENRY REINER
BOLIVIA - Mr. George Henry Reiner, 67, of 621 Beachview
Drive, S.E., Sunset Harbor community died August 5, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith
Community Chapel with Rev. Louis Benton officiating. Interment with military
rites will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Post Cemetery at Ft. Bragg.
Mr. Reiner was born October 19, 1932, in Southern Pines,
son of the late William and Florence Khorring Reiner and moved to Sunset
Harbor community from Carthage in 1982. A 1954 graduate of Belmont Abbey
College, Belmont, N.C., he was retired from the U.S. Army following 22
years service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and had also been stationed
in Germany, Philippines, Korea, Guam, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
In 1996 he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Knight
Reiner; and is survived by four children, Anna Whalen and husband Bill
of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Kathy Burns and husband Keith of Dyersburg,
Tennessee, William D. (Bill) Reiner and wife Anne of Wilmington, and Doris
Hulse and husband Phil of Sunset Harbor; seven grandchildren, Douglas and
Colleen Whalen, Jennifer, Jessica and Katelin Burns, and George David and
Sarah Reiner; and his finance, Mary Walls of Boiling Spring Lakes; and
her 4 children; and 7 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Brenda Elizabeth Tyson of Castle Hayne died Saturday.
She was born in Wilmington on November 24, 1979.
Beth was a member of Wrights|boro Baptist Church and was
currently a student.
Surviving are her parents, Billy Ray Tyson and Brenda
Gail Tyson; one daughter, Hannah Blair Tyson; brothers Billy Ray Tyson,
II, Frederick Alan Tyson and Donnie Carroll and wife Shelly; her paternal
grandmother, Eva Watson Tyson; aunts Loletta Dent and Barbara and John
Cowan and special friends Larry, Tammy and Thomas Whitman.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in
Oleander Memorial Gardens.

MRS. ELIZABETH CHADWICK TWINING
Mrs. Elizabeth Chadwick Twining of Wilmington, NC died
Monday, August 7, 2000 at Cornelia Nixon Davis Health Care Center.
She was born in Pender County near Burgaw, NC, on December
7, 1907, the daughter of the late Jacob McRae Chadwick and Josephine Stokes
Chadwick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wyck|liffe Gooding
Twining and a sister, Hazel Ray Chadwick.
Mrs. Twining was a graduate of Unitarian Carolina Industrial
School of Shelter Neck, and a graduate of Bullock Hospital School of Nursing,
Wilmington, NC, in 1928. She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist
Church and U.M.W.
Surviving are several cousins.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday,
August 9, 2000 in Oakdale Cemetery by Dr. Hugo Lopez.

SHALLOTTE - Mrs. Ruby Evelyn Price, age 70, of 411 Paradise
Lane, Shallotte, successfully completed her walk through the valley of
the shadow of death Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Duke Medical Center.
Mrs. Price was born July 30, 1930 in Bladen County and
was the daughter of the late Lonnie Spencer Sr. and Ressie Hill Spencer.
She was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church.
She is survived by her husband, Bracyle Price; two sons,
Gary Stewart of Simpsonville, S.C., and Gregory Price of Nappanee, Indiana;
a daughter, Donna Davis of Shallotte; two brothers, Claude Spencer of Shallotte
and Lonnie Spencer Jr. of St. Cloud, Florida, and six grand|children.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2000
at 2 p.m. at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Supply Chapel, with Reverend
Tim Watson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Singletary Cemetery, Bladenboro.

WALLACE - Mrs. Jeanette Stowitts Hovey, age 85, of 604

Mr. Roy Gilliam Walters, 84, of Bladenboro, NC, died August
6, 2000 at Bladen County Hospital.
Mr. Walters was retired owner and operator of Walters
Lumber Company in Bladenboro for 51 years. He was married to Lola Mae Bullard
Walters for 66 years. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club International,
member of First Baptist Church of Bladenboro.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at
4 p.m., at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Russell T. Cherry.
Burial will be at Pinecrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Lewis Funeral Home on Tuesday, August,
8, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

FLORENCE RUTH ZELL STEPHENS
Florence Ruth Zell Stephens, age 71, of 119 Egret Point
Rd., Wilmington, went to be with our Lord Sunday, August 6,2000.
She was born April 29, 1929 in Alexandria, Virginia to
the late Andrew and Eve Lyles Zell and was the devoted wife of 43 years
to the late Abraham Nelson Stephens.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of Pine Valley Church of God,
a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Alex|andria, Virginia, and a member
of the volunteer fire department.
Florence was a kind and loving person. All that knew her,
loved her.
She is survived by one son, Charlie Nelson Stephens and
wife, Gail of Leland; two daughters, Linda Lee Stephens Lacy of Wilmington,
Janet Stephens Rivenbark and husband Joe David Jr. of Wilmington; one brother,
Louis Zell of Alexandria, Virginia; three grandchildren, Barbara Ann Lacy,
Joe Nelson Rivenbark and Stephen Franklin Rivenbark.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August
9, 2000 at Pine Valley Church of God with Rev. Richard Williford officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of Pine Valley
Church of God.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening
at the funeral home.
