Daniel Beam passed away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center: losing
his three year battle with cancer.
Jesse was born October 30, 1938, in Benton, Arkansas and
was the son of Ruth Beam of Benton Arkansas and the late Dub Beam. As a
youth he attended the Seventh Day Adventist Ozark Academy and upon graduation
he enlisted in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy in 1977 he and his
family settled in Benton where he worked as a police officer for several
years.
In 1985 he and his family moved to Supply, in his wife's
hometown. He worked as a Security officer at The Brunswick Nuclear Plant
for several years then left to join his wife to work as Therapeutic Foster
Parents: first at the Boys and Girls Home in Lake Waccamaw and then, more
recently at their home. In short, Jesse Beam devoted his life to serving
others.
Jesse was a member of the VFW and Fleet Reserve Association.
He also held a commercial pilot's license and enjoyed flying when he was
able. He kept busy with a small saw-sharpening shop and also carried on
his family's 140 year tradition of hand crafted chair making. He was known
by some in the area as "The Chair Man".
Taught the craft by his father as a youth, Jesse brought
the craft with him from his native Arkansas. His hand-crafted Oak and Cherry
Rocking Chairs have found homes throughout the area as well as across the
country. One of the Beam Family chairs has even found a home in the Smithsonian
Institution.
Jesse is survived in addition to his mother, by his wife,

He and his wife also share the love and joy of a total eleven grandchildren
and a foster child, Angelina; a brother, Bobby Beam; two sisters, Shirley
Edison and Phyllis Rickard all of Benton, Arkansas.
