MR. HERMAN FRANKLIN HORRELL
IVANHOE - Herman Franklin Horrell, age 84, died Thursday,
June 15, 2000, at his residence.
Mr. Horrell was born January 29, 1916, in Bladen County
and was the son of the late Hayes Quincy and Minnie Sherman Horrell. He
was predeceased by his son-in-law, Graham Johnson.
He was a member of Haw Bluff Baptist Church where he taught
Sunday School for thirty years.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years, Bessie Henry
Horrell of the home; children, Joyce Wommack and husband Rick, of Wilmington,
Linda H. Johnson of Hope Mills, Dwight Horrell and wife Jan, and Dale Horrell
and wife Tonya, all of Ivanhoe; grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Lynette Hodges,
Amy Pridgen, Joy Horrell, Lee Horrell, Destiny Horrell, Brittany Colone
and Lynn Wommack; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Haw Bluff
Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Compton and the Rev. Melvin Hall officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at
Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.

MARY JOELLYN WHITLOCK
Mary JoEllyn Whitlock of Hampstead, NC died Tuesday, June
13, 2000, at her residence.
She was born August 27, 1941, in Washington D.C., daughter
of the late William and Marie A. Crowley O'Brien.
Surviving are her husband, Edward E. Whitlock of the home;
three children, Shawn Mesa and wife Stacey of Gathersburg, MD, Kevin Mesa
and wife Leslie of Hubert, NC, and Caroline Miller and husband Lyle of
Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, EÝJ Miller, Meranda Miller, Ariel
Mesa, Drew Mesa; and good friends, Tony and Debbie Musolino.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday,
June 17, 2000, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church by Rev. Terry Collins.

GENEVA MAST REECE
Geneva Mast Reece of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, June
14, 2000, at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 23, 1921, in Watauga County, NC,
daughter of the late Clyde and Jenny Bingham Mast.
Surviving are her husband, Hugh W. Reece of the home;
a son, Hugh William Reece Jr. of Seattle, WA; one daughter, Peggy Reece
Martin of Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Julia Reece, Thomas Reece,
Michelle Smith, Monique Martin, Brian Martin; one great-grandson, Timothy
J. Scott; and two sisters, Mildred Farthing of Vilac, NC, and Carleen Danner
of Vero Beach, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June
17, 2000, at Hampton Funeral Service Chapel, Boone, NC. Interment will
follow in the Mast Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday
at Hampton Funeral Service.

SAMUEL ASHE FLINT SR.
Samuel Ashe Flint Sr. died Tuesday, June 13, 2000.
He was born in Raleigh, N.C. June 12,1914, son of the
late George Barstow Flint and Elizabeth Emerson Ashe Flint. He was a direct
descendant of John Baptista Ashe and Elizabeth Lillington Swann Ashe early
settlers of the Cape Fear who built Sloop Point Plantation in 1725 and
helped found St. James Church in 1929.
Mr. Flint was a member of St. James Episcopal Church,
The Society of the Cincinnati, Sons of the American Revolution, Carolina
Country Club and Hanover Seaside Club.
Surviving are his wife, Ann, and three children by a previous
marriage; Mrs. W.R. Brown (Margaret) of Raleigh; Samuel Ashe Flint Jr.
of Wilmington and Mrs. R.G. Penland (Annie) also of Raleigh;, and eight

MR. WARREN KEMP MILLS
Mr. Warren Kemp Mills, 72, of Clemmons, passed away Tuesday,
June 13, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born November
29, 1927, in Anson County, N.C. to Vera Curlee and Dexter Kemp Mills. Mr.
Mills served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Sheridan during World War II.
He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church and was retired from
the Winston-Salem Police Department after 30 years of service. Mr. Mills
was a member and a Past Master of the AF & AM West Bend Masonic, Lodge
#434 in Lewisville and a District Deputy Grandmaster of District #48.
