   Sloan, William Henry, 36, of 6116 Spice Ridge Road, Apt. A, Raleigh, died. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw. Burial will be in Duplin Memorial Gardens, Wallace. 
   
   Stephens, Flora Edna, 69, of 510 N. Brown St., Chadbourn, died Saturday at home. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Zion Wall Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in Belview Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home, Whiteville. 
   
   MR. WILLIAM LEE CROSS JR. 
   Mr. William Lee "Bill" Cross Jr., 45, of 304 N. Lumina Ave., Wrightsville Beach, died Saturday, June 10, 2000. 
   "Bill" was born in Wilmington, November 22, 1954, the son of the late William Lee and Eva Lou Sanders Cross. He was a member of the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a member of the UNC Alumni Association, a member and president of the Riley's Creek Hunting Club and was the owner and manager of Roberts Market at Wrightsville Beach. He was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Sheffield Cross in 1995. 
   Survivors include his sister, Sandra Cross Pendergraft of Orlando, FL, an uncle, Jack Sanders of Savannah, GA, two aunts, Claudia Williams of Bennettsville, SC, Theo Newsome of Florence, SC, and many cousins. 
   Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church at Wrightsville Beach by the Reverend Robert Cook. 
   Honorary pallbearers will be Russell James, Paul Katalinic, Danny Craver, Danny Baker, James Johnson, Melvin Powell, Billy Curry, Wayne Bland and members of the Riley's Creek Hunting Club. 
   The family will receive friends at the church following the service and have requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Wildlife Endowment Fund, Transaction Mgmt., P.O. Box 29565, Raleigh, NC 27626-056.

   MR. CARL E. HUNLEY JR. 
   Mr. Carl Earnest Hunley Jr., 54, of 2202 Oakley Road, Castle Hayne, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. 
   Mr. Hunley was born August 23, 1945, at Monroe Michigan, the son of the late Carl Earnest Hunley and Mrs. Mary Nagy Hunley of Monroe, Michigan, who survives. 
   Survivors besides his mother include his son, Jeffrey T. Hunley and wife Rhonda of Bostic, NC, his daughter, Sarah Hunley Pigott and husband Kevin of Castle Hayne, his brothers, Clarence Hunley of Wilmington, Chuck, Duane and John Hunley, all of Michigan, a sister Betty Abou-rejaili of Lebanon, his grandchildren, Carson Pigott, Kevin Dale Pigott, Jessica Hunley, Haley Hunley and Tyler Hunley. 
   Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., today, Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in the Winter Park Baptist Church by the Reverend Michael Tutterow. 
   The family would request that any memorials be made to the Winter Park Baptist Church, 4700 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, NC 28403.

   DARREN KEITH CASTEEN 
   Darren Keith Casteen, age 34, of Burgaw died Monday in Pender County. 
   The family will receive friends 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw, and at other times will be at the home of Jimmy and Betty Casteen, Horse Branch Rd., Burgaw.

   MRS. MARY FREEMAN NOBLE 
   Mrs. Mary Freeman Noble, 81, of Lake Forest Parkway, Wilmington, died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Britthaven of NorthChase. 
   Mrs. Noble was born November 14, 1918 in Richmond County, the daughter of the late Coy and Hattie Freeman. 
   Survivors include her son, Hartford E. Noble of Wilmington, her daughter, Brenda E. Benton of Castle Hayne, a brother, Thurman Freeman, and a sister, Essie Phillips, both of Hamlet, NC, three grandchildren, Debra Shepard, Sharon Noble and Scott Noble, four great-grand|children, Kevin Bryan Shepard, Patrick Kyle Shepard, William Goodman, Tara Nobles, and one great-great-grandchild, Coy Shepard. 
   A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2000 in the Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Oleander Chapel, with the Reverend Andy Ottaway officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. 
   Inurnment services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 15, 2000 at the Mausoleum in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

   MR. FRANKLIN D. CLARK 
   Mr. Franklin D. Clark, age 63, of 159 Trails End Rd., Wilmington, N.C., died Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. 
   He was born June 22, 1936 in Bladen Co. N.C. and was a long time member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church. 
   Mr. Clark is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Jones Clark, an infant daughter, Jill, and his parents, George Pierce and Johnnie Mae Priest Clark. 
   Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, May, of the home. One son, LTC Del Clark and wife Rebecca of Ft. Hood, Texas. One daughter, Marci Clark Taxman and husband Gary of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and step sons Andy Craven and wife Tamara, of Wilmington, N.C., Chris Craven and wife Jill of Rocky Point, N.C. Three brothers, Roland Clark of Clarkton, N.C., Eugene Clark of Jacksonville, Florida, and Wilbur Clark of Wilmington, N.C. Two sisters, Ruth Clark Kellum and Doris Clark Conaway, both of Wilmington, N.C., and seven grandchildren. 
   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Cape Fear Presbyterian Church with Dr. Curtis "T" Christian officiating. interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

   JAMES ROY 'J.R.' STANLEY, JR. 
   J.R. Stanley, Jr., 60, of Sunrise Drive Forest, Va., went to be with his Lord Sunday morning, June 11, 2000 at his home. He was the husband of Carol Smith Stanley. 
   Mr. Stanley was born September 5, 1939 in Lumberton, N.C., the son of James Roy Stanley, Sr. and Irene Fowler Stanley of Clarendon, N.C. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, serving from 1956-1959, and a graduate of Southeastern Community College. He was President of Summit Transportation, Inc., a retired farmer and real estate agent in North Carolina, and a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. 
   In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, James Roy Stanley, III and his wife Gay of Goldsboro, N.C., Patrick Lee Stanley and his wife Lisa of Mebane, N.C., Jeffrey Duval Stanley and his wife Erin of Whiteville, N.C.; step-sons, Benjamin Colin Smith of Forest, Troy Wayne Neas and his wife Amy of China Grove, N.C., step-daughter, Dina Smith Hester and her husband Brad of Raleigh, N.C.; grandson Logan Reid Stanley, step grandson Evan Hudson Neas; step-granddaughter Ashley Lynn Neas, and many other friends and family. 
   A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000 in Thomas Road Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Jerry Falwell and Reverend Charlie Harbin officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

   Robert Paul Hoffman of Wilmington died Sunday, June 11, 2000 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

   RAYMOND A. NOVELLI 
   VIRGINIA BEACH - Lt. Cmdr. Raymond Anthony Novelli, 86, formerly of Hampstead, died June 5, 2000, in a Virginia Beach Hospital. 
   Mr. Novelli was born in Treveskyn, Pa., and was the son of the late Ralph Novelli and Mary Josephine Florio Novelli. 
   Survivors include his wife, Enid Ruth Novelli of Virginia Beach; two sons, James R. Novelli of Virginia Beach and Robert G. Novelli of Selbyville, Del.; one daughter, Sandra R. Klemick of Hampstead, N.C.; two brothers, Dominick Novelli and Nicholas Novelli, and one sister, Susan Campolongo, all of Bridgeville, Penn.; seven grand|children; and 12 great-grand|children. 
   A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2000, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church by Father Edward Richard|son. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors.
