Bobbie Fowler

Mrs. Bobbie Brown Fowler, 69, of 268 North Thomas Lane, Stony Point, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Davis Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

She was born in Quitman, Miss., on March 5, 1931, daughter of the late James Parker Brown and Catherine Truelove Davis Brown.

She was a retired waitress and a member of Thomas Street Church of God.

In addition to her parents, three sisters preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, James "Jim" Fowler of the home; six sons, Bill Wall, Jerry Wall and Steve Wall, all of Florida, Scott Wall of Stony Point, Thomas Fowler of Jacksonville, N.C., and Tim Codding of Statesville; three daughters, Shelley W. Cox of Thomasville, Linda Wall Miller of Salisbury and Tammy C. Smith of Stony Point; one brother, James Brown of Washington; two sisters, Polly Eccles of Oregon and Katie Friend of Washington; stepdaughters, Sandi, Marie and Laura; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas Street Church of God. The Rev. Scott Whiteside, the Rev. Chuck Hager and the Rev. Billy Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home, and at other times will assemble at the home.

Margie Tilley

Margie Louise Bunton Tilley, 70, a resident of Brian Center in Statesville, formerly of Hiddenite, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Brian Center following an extended illness.

She was born in Alexander County Aug. 10, 1930, daughter of the late Donnie George Bunton and Laura Jane Connolly Bunton. She was a retired caregiver and nurses aide and was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed King Tilley, whom she married Oct. 26, 1946. Two sisters also preceded her in death, Rosa Lee Gwaltney and Bertha Clyde Lowder.

Survivors include three sons, Otis Wayne Tilley, Ronald Eugene Tilley and Larry Donald Tilley, all of Hiddenite; one daughter, Edna Faye Stout of Hiddenite; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Gwaltney and the Rev. Carl Teague will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home, and at other times will assemble at the home of her son, Otis Tilley, 10377 Cheatham Ford Road, Hiddenite.

Cheryl Smith

Mrs. Cheryl Wynn Smith, 53, of Charlotte, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Carolina Medical Center. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Phillip Missionary Baptist Church, Huntersville. Burial church cemetery. Bryant Lytle Young Funeral Home, Mooresville, in charge.
 

Kenneth Morrow

Kenneth Austin Morrow Sr., 74, of Franklin Drive, Mooresville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.

Born on Aug. 24, 1926, in Mooresville, he was a son of the late Clyde Elliott and Myrtle McAllister Morrow. Mr. Morrow was a graduate of Mooresville High School and attended Kings Business College. He was a retired foreman for Crouch Brothers House Moving, having worked in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia for over 40 years. Mr. Morrow was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mooresville, and the Mooresville Masonic Lodge 496 AF & AM. Mr. Morrow was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Crouch Morrow, whom he married Aug. 29, 1947; children, Ken Morrow Jr., and wife, Judy, of Mooresville, Marshall E. Morrow and wife, Sheila, of Statesville, Margaret M. Baker, and husband, Jeff, of Mooresville, and Becky M. Ervin, and husband, Shawn, of Concord; brother, Clyde E. Morrow Jr., and wife, Joyce, of Mt. Ulla; sister, Mary Ethel Charles, and husband, Guy, of Mooresville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Dr. E. Harvey Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Lillian Barnette

Mrs. Lillian Thomas Barnette, 95, of 537 Turnersburg Hwy., died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Brian Center.

Born in Iredell County on June 15, 1905, she was a daughter of the late Marcus Wood Thomas and Annie Belle Harris Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Hebron Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Franklin Stamey Barnette.

Survivors include three brothers, James Paul Thomas of Statesville, Earl Edward Thomas of Asheville and Basil Harris Thomas of Catawba; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Thomas Poston of Lumberton, and Mrs. Nell Thomas Potts of Morganton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Page officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mary Gantt

Mrs. Mary Grace Warren Gantt, 85, of 718 Bristol Drive, went to be with her Lord in her sleep on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, following a long and blessed life.

Born in Iredell County on July 24, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Mack Warren and Emma Sloan Warren. She was retired from Brenton Textiles and was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Eulan Glenn Gantt on Sept. 14, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Warren, and a sister, Zelma Warren.

Survivors include two sons, Joe W. Gantt, and his wife, Carolyn, and Don G. Gantt, and his wife, Dianne, all of Statesville; two brothers, Paul Warren of Durham and Grier Warren of Statesville; and one sister, Mrs. Eula Horne of Statesville. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Michelle Denise Anderson and Travis Lee Gantt, and one step great-grandchild, Ashley Anderson.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Iredell Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jeff Coppley officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. There will be no formal visitation.

Funeral services for Nola Jarvis Albea, 82, of 681 Swann Road, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jody Griffin officiating. Entombment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.

Sarah Higgins

ROGERS, Ark. - Sarah Melissa McDonald Higgins, "Sadie" of Rogers, Ark., formerly of Florence, S.C., died Jan. 31, 2001, at Beverly Health Care, Rogers, Ark.

She was born Aug. 15, 1909, in Georgetown, S.C., to the late Alexis Foster and Melissa Caroline McDonald. Her husband, Randolph Connor Higgins, preceded her in death in 1960.

Survivors include one son, Dr. A. Connor Higgins, and wife, Jo Ann, of Bentonville, Ark., and their children, Kevin, Connor, Melissa and Curtis; and five great-grandchildren; and one daughter, Melissa H. Cowan, and husband, Ross, of Statesville, N.C., and their children, Hope and Ross Jr.

A graveside service for the family will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on February 10 in Georgetown, S.C.

Arrangements are being handled by Mayer Funeral Home of Georgetown, S.C.
