at Moses Cone Hospital.

He was retired from Blue Bell and was a member of Bethel United Methodist
Church.

A native of Chatham County, Mr. Johnson was a member of Florida Street
Baptist Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy and retired
from Pitney Bowes after 20 years of employment.
Surviving are his wife, Mary R. Johnson; son, Robert Lewis Johnson,
Jr.; daughter Debbie J. Bottomley; sisters Ollie Dalton and Mrs. Jackie
Robertson; two granddaughters and one grandson.

16, 1998, at her residence.

Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Patrick Welch, officiating. Interment will
be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Heath was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Guilford County, the last child
of nine born to the late John Calvin and Ida Coble Fields. She attended
school in Guilford County, graduating from Pleasant Garden High School
and Greensboro Business College. She was a member of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, the Guilford County Genealogical Society, the Randolph
County Genealogical Society and Centenary United Methodist Church. She
was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Max Heath, who died on Feb. 2,
1996.
She is survived by her husband, Max Byron Heath of the home; one daughter,
Patricia H. Dellinger of Greensboro; and one grandchild, Emily Dellinger
of Somerville, Mass.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the
service on Sunday, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.

Mr. Oscar Harold Hazelwood, 71, a loving husband and father, of 3805
Peterson Avenue, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998.
Mr. Hazelwood's funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998,
in the Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel. Interment will follow in Westminster
Gardens.
Oscar Harold Hazelwood was born on March 8, 1926, in Oak Ridge to the
late George and Melissa Robertson Hazelwood. A lifelong resident of Guilford
County, Mr. Hazelwood was a member of the Guilford County Wildlife Club
and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was a
U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Robertson Hazelwood
of the home; five children, Rick Hazelwood and his wife, Kay; Tommy Hazelwood
and his wife, Susan; Wanda Boyette and her husband, Robin; Danny Hazelwood;
all of Greensboro and Woody Hazelwood and his wife, Diana of Summerfield;
four sisters, Cottie Smith and Garnett Grogan both of Stoneville; Margaret
Francis of Richmond, Va. and Georgia Wade of Burlington; 11 grandchildren,
Jerri Lynn; Wendy; Michael; Kimberly; Melissa; Sherry; Kristy; Allison;
Brian; Dustin; and Mark and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Hazelwood was
preceded in death by his son, Larry Hazelwood and a daughter-in-law, Linda
Hazelwood.

and was a member of Shinning Light Baptist Church. He was born in Guilford
County, Dec. 20, 1938, to William Roy and Jeanette Roberson Dillon.

Mrs. Jeanette Dillon of High Point; two brothers, Mr. Billy Garland Dillon
of Kernersville and Vernon "Rudy" Dillon of Colfax.

at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Cooke Family Cemetery in Lakeview, SC.
She was a native of Lakeview, SC, retired from B.B. Walker of Asheboro,
was a member of West Asheboro Baptist Church. She was preceded in death
by her parents, Troy E. & Ella L. Cooke and her brother, James M. Cooke.
Survivors are her sisters, Rosa C. Rowell of Asheboro; Mildred C. Ammons
of Lakeview, SC; sister-in-law, Jeanette G. Cooke of Jacksonville, Fla.;

HIGH POINT -- Mrs. Irene Bridges Cook, 85, of 709 Nance Dr., Thomasville,
died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the Evergreens in High Point.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Ward Street
United Methodist Church by the Rev. Paul Bravender and the Rev. Bobby Beck.
Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook was born June 15, 1912, in High Point a daughter of John
Hubbard and Mary Ethel Montgomery Bridges. She and her husband owned and
operated Fairmont Grocery. She was a member of Ward Street United Methodist
Church and a member of the Elizabeth Albright Class. She was also past
president and active in the United Methodist Women. On Dec. 14, 1931, she
married Thurman Charles Cook, who died in March, 1973.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Michael, of 707 Nance
Dr., Thomasville; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Kidd of Guilford Health Care,
Greensboro; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Joseph Philip Brzezinski, 70, of 5610 Fleming Terrace Road, died

1998, at Saint Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, with Father Jim O'Neill
officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Joseph Philip Brzezinski was born in Brooklyn, NY on Jan. 19, 1927,
to the late Joseph and Catherine Brzezinski. Mr. Brzezinski served in the
U.S. Navy during World War II, and was retired from AT&T with 30 years
service.
Mr. Brzezinski was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Brzezinski.
Survivors include his loving wife, Angela of the home; sons, Joseph Brzezinski,
Jr. of Chapel Hill; Michael Brzezinski of Raleigh; daughters, Elizabeth
Whitcomb and husband, Peter of Brookline, Mass.; Major Diane Reese and
husband, Major Kenneth Reese of Vienna, Va.; of the United States Air Force,
and daughter, Mary Edmonds and husband, James of Hickory; sister, Blanche
Geise of Lakeland, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Eric Joseph Reese; Rachel
Ann Reese and Christine Elizabeth Edmonds.

A native of Alamance Co., Mr. Bell was a charter member of The Lutheran
Church of Our Father. A veteran of WWII, and the Korean War, he served
in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Bell-South, after 39 years of employment
and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and also was a member of the
Greensboro Moose Lodge #685.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Romie & Nora Bell; son,
Stephan Dwayne Bell; and brother, Phillip Leon Bell.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen B. Bell of the home;
son, Mark Gordon Bell and wife, Charlotte; daughter, Theresa B. Stone and
husband, Ed; all of Greensboro; sisters, Audrey Bell Newnam and husband
Rusty of Greensboro and Betty Bell Callicutt and husband, Bob of Lexington;
grandchildren, Ann B. Hinson and husband, Greg of Clayton; Sherri L. Stone
of Alexandria, Va.; Heather M. Bell and Ian G. Bell both of Greensboro;

LOYD S. BARNETT

Loyd S. Barnett, 74, formerly of 617 Candlewood Drive, died of cancer
on Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Monor House at Irving Park.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24,
1998, at Grace United Methodist Church, Greensboro.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a graduate of Ellenboro High
School and Appalachian State University. He joined the Navy in World War
II and served as an officer of board the Destroyer U.S.S. Doyle, which
was part of the shore bombardment fleet on D-Day at Omaha Beach, Normandy,
in June 1944. He retired as a Second Vice President of Jefferson-Pilot
Life Insurance Company in 1987, after more than 40 years of service with
Pilot Life.
Barnett was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was
former chairman of the church's Administrative Board, Finance Committee,
Long Range Planning Committee, and Bicentennial Committee, and was a long
time member of the William S. Cross, Jr. Fellowship Sunday School Class.
He was a member of the Greensboro Kiwanis Club, past member of the
board of directors of the Guilford Wildlife Club, past member of the Oddfellows
Lodge, and was a former member of the Alumni Council of Appalachian State
University.
He is survived by a daughter, Kyle B. Church and son-in-law, Gordon
L. Church of Roswell, Ga.; grandson, Adam McAlister Church and Philip Gordon
Church of Roswell, Ga.; sister, Elsie B. Foster of Rutherfordton; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Betty and B.J. Kendrick of Shelby; Joyce and Robert
E. Culbreth of Spartanburg, SC. Barnett's wife of over 50 years, Margaret
Pierce Barnett preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1996.
The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church,
after the service.

a veteran of the United States Navy.

a brief illness.

Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert M. Disher, Pastor of the church.
Born in Montgomery County, Pa., he was a sales engineer with Rockwell-Reliance
Corp., attended St. Mark's Reformed Church, veteran of the U.S. Army Special
Forces, a member of Stoney Creek Country Club. He was a graduate of Penn
State University, former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a Kanawha
County Park Commissioner and a member of Edgewood Country Club, all in
Charleston, W.Va.
Survivors include wife, Mrs. Ruth Sides Rudell of the home; daughter,
Mrs. Kristine Blair of Charleston, W.Va.; one son, Roger Rudell of Columbia,
S.C.; three grandchildren, Judd, Jamie and Andrew Blair; two stepdaughters,
Mrs. Sarah Galvin of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Lisa Adams of Union Cross;
six step-grandchildren, Patrick, Megan, Kelly and Erin Galvin, Marley and
Hunter Adams; one half-sister, Mrs. Betty McGinnis of Leechburg, Pa. He
was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Irene Duck.
