Mr. Donald Burton "Corky" Ray, 65, of 2005 Kello Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Kimmons officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.
Mr. Ray was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Alamance County, the son of Ivan Wiseman and Mary Durham Ray. He was a semi-retired data processing computer operator with Cone Mills, had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Christ Community Church.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene Stanley Ray of the home; one son, William Alan Ray and wife, Janet of Asheboro; one granddaughter, Chelsea Ray of Asheboro and one sister, Frances Reed of Burlington.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.

Mrs. Suzayne Stanz Newton, 82, of 2302 Brandt Village, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Newton at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Christ Lutheran Church. Private interment services will be held Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, in Wisconsin Memorial Park in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Suzayne Stanz Newton was born on June 16, 1915, in Milwaukee to the late Henry and Winifred Robrahn Stanz. She attended Lawrence University and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Mrs. Newton was a member of the P.E.O. education sororiy, Christ Lutheran Church in Greensboro; and a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wisconsin.
Mrs. Newton is survived by three sons, Lyman S. Newton and his wife, Kaey of Greensboro; Leslie S. Newton and his wife, Phyllis of Seattle, Wash.; and Roger Newton and his wife, Nicola of Chippenham, England; four grandchildren, Kristen Newton of New York City; Lauren Newton of Greensboro; Joshua Newton of Kileen, Texas; and Sarah Newton Stewart of Seattle.
The family will receive friends at the church, following the service on Saturday.

A native of Stokes County, he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mildred M. Neal, daughters; Joyce McDaniel of Reidsville, Rita Goode of Kernersville, sons; Kenneth Neal of Stoneville, Ricky Neal of Reidsville, six step-children, two half-sisters and two half-brothers, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A native of Guilford Co., she was a member of the Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Petty of Greensboro; Barbara Rich of Greensboro; C.W. McCuiston, Jr. of Vilas; Jimmy McCuiston and Billy McCuiston both of Greensboro; brother, Cecil Toomes of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Robert M. (Bob) McAdoo, 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at Buffalo Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Chris East and the Rev. J. Bruce Ritter, Jr. will conduct the service.
A native of Guilford County, Mr. McAdoo retired from the U.S. Postal Service, he served in the Medical Corp in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a Mason and a member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian McAdoo, and a brother, Tom McAdoo.
Survivors are his wife, Doris Ritter McAdoo of the home; two daughters, Pam Young and husband, Jim of Gibsonville; Lynne Herndon and husband, Eddie of Greensboro; brother, Bill McAdoo of Greensboro; three sisters, Betty Albright; Nancy Yow and Gwen Jones, all of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Ryan; Kara; Tori and Tripp.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church, following the service.

Mr. Stephen Leo Kish, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Stephen was born in Witt, Ill. on April 14, 1912. He married Virginia Gruse on Jan. 10, 1942, she preceded him in death. They attended the University of Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a Second Lt. and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He retired as an office manager as a civil servant.
He is survived by daughters, Nancy DeManigold of Greensboro; Merry Popa of Colo.; Nora Kelly of Fla.; sons, Dave Kish of Washington; Anthony Kish of Washington, DC; Paul Kish of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, George Kish of Fla.; sisters, Betty Glasheen and Ted LaRock both of Wis.; 13 grandchildren. One sister, Elon is deceased.
Hanes-Lineberry North Elm is serving the family.

ELON COLLEGE -- Mrs. Sallie Jones Kernodle, 101, of 3546 N. NC 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Bethlehem Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, Pastor of the Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lewis Jones and the late Sarah Ann Roberson Jones. She taught school for several years and was a homemaker. She was the oldest living member of Bethlehem Christian Church and a member of The Share and Care Club. For over 60 years, she was a member of The Altamahaw-Ossipee Home Extension Club. Mrs. Kernodle was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Watson Kernodle, who died in 1970; her parents; two sisters, Ruth S. Jones and Luna J. Moore; three brothers, John B. Jones; Thomas A. Jones and James N. Jones; daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Kernodle; son-in-law, Thomas B. Sain; and one step-grandson, Tommy Sain.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clifton (Jane) McPherson of Elon College; Mrs. Thomas B. (Nancy) Sain of Burlington; three sons, William H. Kernodle of Salisbury; J. Wayne Kernodle; and R. Staley Kernodle both of Elon College; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Kernodle will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the home.

Mr. Robert Vincent "Bob" Kanne, 61, of 502 Willoughby Blvd., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Saint Pius X Catholic Church.
Mr. Kanne was a native of Los Angeles, Calif. and was a retired general manger for AT&T. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Kanne of the home; daughter, Susan Marie Kanne-Lopez of Tujunga, Calif.; son, Robert V. Kanne, III of Los Angeles, Calif.; mother, Della B. A native of Chatham County, Mr. Johnson was a member of Florida Street Baptist Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy and retired from Pitney Bowes after 20 years of employment.
Surviving are his wife, Mary R. Johnson; son, Robert Lewis Johnson, Jr.; daughter Debbie J. Bottomley; sister Ollie Dalton; two granddaughters and one grandson.

Oscar Harold Hazelwood was born on March 8, 1926, in Oak Ridge to the late George and Melissa Robertson Hazelwood. A lifelong resident of Guilford County, Mr. Hazelwood was a member of the Guilford County Wildlife Club and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Robertson Hazelwood of the home; five children, Rick Hazelwood and his wife, Kay; Tommy Hazelwood and his wife, Susan; Wanda Boyette and her husband, Robin; Danny Hazelwood; all of Greensboro and Woody Hazelwood and his wife, Diana of Summerfield; four sisters, Connie Smith and Garnett Grogan both of Stoneville; Margaret Francis of Richmond, Va. and Georgia Wade of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, Jerri Lynn; Wendy: Michael: Kimberly; Melissa; Sherry; Kristy; Alison; Brian; Dustin; and Marie and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Laura Pickett Harper, 94, formerly of Siler City, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at the Starmount Villa Nursing Center in Greensboro.
Mrs. Harper's funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16. 1998, in the First Wesleyan Church of Siler City. Interment will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.
Laura Pickett Harper was born in Chatham County on May 25, 1903, to the late R.H. and Martha Estridge Pickett. She was a retired machine operator with Hadley-Peoples Manufacturing Company and a life member of the First Wesleyan Church of Siler City.
Survivors include her sister, Mozelle Pickett and brother, Albert Pickett both of Siler City; three granddaughters, Rinda Estes, Sandy Williams, and Sharon Freeland all of Greensboro; and five great-grandchildren, Bradley Williams; Leslie Williams; Ashley Freeland, Brian Estes; and Matthew Estes.
Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar C. Harper, a daughter, Opal "Gerrie" Phillips, and a son, Henry G. Harper.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the Rich & Thompson Chapel, Burlington, conducted by the Rev. Steven Walsh, Pastor of Southside Baptist Church, Greensboro; and the Rev. Charles McMillan, Interim Pastor of Grove Park Baptist Church, Burlington. Interment will be at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Orange County.
A native of Wake County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Rachel Durham Catlett and the late Mrs. Mildred Rose Pilkington Catlett. He was the son of the late George Sidney Catlett and the late Lillie Ann Pleasants Catlett.
Rev. Catlett was a member of the First Baptist Church, Garner. He was ordained in 1927 and served his pastorates in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. He was State Evangelist for the state of Delaware and was an Associational Missionary in Johnston County.
Survivors include three daughters, Ms. Robert R. (Joyce) Hayes of Burlington; Mrs. Richard A. (Lovell) Rogers of Graham; Mrs. Mary Lou Millican of Greensboro; one son, Mr. Arthur Durham Catlett of Beaverton, Ore.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Rose P. Ennemoser of Garner; a step-son, Mr. Billy Pilkington of Wilmington; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Mae Catlett Harden of Mebane; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A native of Rockingham County, she attended the Eden City Public Schools and was a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church. Mrs. Broadnax was an active member of the Senior Choir and the Missionary Circle of the church. She was also a member of the Goodwill Savings Club.
Survivors are her husband, Mr. Otis Broadnax of Eden; two sons, Mr. Winfred Artis of Bridgeport, Conn. and Mr. R. Marcus Broadnax of Ridgeway, Va.; four daughters, Ms. Ethel J. Broadnax; Mrs. Izetta L. Wilkerson of the home; Mrs. F. Paulette Broadnax of Reidsville; and Ms. Beverly M. Broadnax of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Cora F. Jones; Mrs. Laura Hampton and Ms. Anne Artis; all of Bridgeport, Conn.; one brother, Mr. Ernest Hobson of Baltimore, Md.; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Eula Greene Allred, 94, of 1704 Alamance Church Rd., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998 at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden.
Mrs. Allred's funeral will be held at 11 am on Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Alamance Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Eula Greene Allred was born on Dec. 8, 1903 in Guilford County to the late William and Lenora Ector Greene. A life long resident of Guilford County, Mrs. Allred was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church and a retired secretary with the Internal Revenue Service.
Survivors include four children, Doris Allred McMasters of Chattanooga, Tenn., William A. Allred and Houston Allred, both of Greensboro, and John M. Allred of North Palm Beach, Florida, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Allred was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Allred, Sr.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm on Friday, Jan. 16, 1998 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street.

CHAPEL HILL -- Mrs. Sadie Honeycutt Turner, age 81, of 11602 East Franklin St., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at home, after an extended illness.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. Ken Walters, burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery.
Born in Alexander Co., on Jan. 8, 1915, to the late George Honeycutt and Sally Morris Honeycutt. She was a home maker and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband, Henry Turner, three brothers, Jesse Honeycutt; Joe Crisp and Spurgeon Crisp; one sister, Essie Honeycutt.
