Mrs. Lovey Maxine Danielson, 66, of Greensboro died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral will be conducted Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Danielson was born May 29, 1931, in Lee County, Mississippi, the daughter of Ernest Edwin and Bonnie Owens Herring. She had resided in Greensboro for a number of years, where she was a homemaker. She was an avid volunteer with the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, of which her husband was Superintendent, and she was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are her husband, Willard Wilmar Danielson of the home; one daughter, Barbara Jean Slosar of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Jerry Lee Danielson and David Spencer Danielson, both of Greensboro; her mother, Bonnie Owens Herring of Tupelo, Miss.; one sister, Jackie Wheat; and three brothers, Edwin Herring, Robert Herring and Jimmy Herring, all of Tupelo, Miss.; and five grandchildren, Kelly Slosar, Jill Slosar, David Slosar, Erik Danielson and Matthew Danielson.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home.

STATE ROAD -- Mrs. Allene Seagraves Chambers of Mining Ridge Church Road died 5:53 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 1997, at High Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, following a 2-year stay at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin.
Mrs. Chambers was born Sept. 3, 1905 in Ashe County to Wiley and Minnie Seagraves. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and the Women's Christian Circle.
Surviving Mrs. Chambers are one daughter, Mrs. Annie Lee (Beauford) Shore; two sons, Garvie O. (Kathleen) Chambers of Greensboro, R.C. (Naida) Chambers of State Road; three grandchildren, R. David Chambers of Greensboro, Susan Sewell of Mountain Park and Patricia Shore Vaughn of Raleigh; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Sewell of Mountain Park and Jonathan D. Chambers of Greensboro; three brothers, Edgar Seagraves of Max Meadows, Va., W.F. (Fonze) and Calvin Seagraves of Greensboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon A. Chambers in 1982; a granddaughters, Janet Chambers and a grandson, Christopher Chambers.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant View Baptist Church by the Rev. Finley McCoury. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. tonight at Pleasant View Baptist Church and other times at the home of R.C. Chambers, State Road.

THOMAS M. BYRNE, SR.

Mr. Thomas M. Byrne, Sr., 87, of 6501 River Hills Drive died on Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A Mass of Christian burial, celebrating his life, will be said at Saint Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 1998.
A native of New York City, Mr. Byrne resided in Greensboro since 1988. After serving thirty years as head Tennis and Squash Racquets professional, Mr. Byrne retired from the New York Athletic Club in 1974. In addition to his club duties and tournament playing, he also served a term as president of the Professional Lawn Tennis Association and was instrumental in building the Squash Racquets program at Fordham University.
In 1996 he was inducted into the Professional Tennis Hall of Fame, in Houston, Texas. As a further tribute to his contribution to the game and the profession, a doubles tournament bearing his name--the Tom Byrne Seniors Doubles Tournament, started in 1967, is held each year in New York City. The tournament draws players from all the northeastern and middle Atlantic states.
Mr. Byrne is survived by his wife, Vivian Byrne of the home; sons, Richard Byrne of Greensboro, Thomas Byrne, Jr. of Crosswicks, N.J., Robert Byrne of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sister, Helen Corr of Bonita Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. today at the residence.

SUMMERFIELD -- Thomas S. Lester, 85, of 424 Witty Road died Sunday morning, Jan. 25, 1998, at Vencor Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany United Methodist Church.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the owner and operator of Hudson & Lester Hardware Store and also worked as a farmer. He was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, a former director of Wachovia Bank and served on the county committee of ASCS.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Lewis Lester.
Survivors include daughter, Linda Lester of the home; son, Lewis Lester and wife, Donna of Summerfield; grandchildren Jacob and Jenna Lester; sisters, Fannie Thomas of Madison, Gladys Jefferies of Winston-Salem, Lillie Carter of Summerfield, Daisy Jones and husband, Johnnie of Reidsville, and Helen Isley of Reidsville; brother, John Lester and wife, Frances of Reidsville; sister-in-law, Ruth Lewis of Gibsonville; and brother-in-law, Floyd Lewis of Gibsonville.

HIGH POINT -- Mrs. Bessie Cashwell Bolling, 104, of 1230 Westminister Dr. died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Bolling was born June 5, 1893 in Parkton; a daughter of J.A. and Lillie Canady Cashwell. She attended UNC in Greensboro, was a school teacher and taught the elementary grades for six years at the Welch School which was located near the Presbyterian Home and also schools in Winston-Salem and Pembroke. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church. On Dec. 26, 1917 she married A.J. Bolling who died in June of 1935.
Surviving are one daughter Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Potts of Allentown, Pa.; two grandsons, Joseph M. Potts of Radnor, Pa., and Thomas B. Potts of Allentown, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Miss Betsy Ruth Bolling.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sechrest Chapel on E. Lexington Ave., by Dr. Al Cadenhead. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery .
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service and other times at the home.

Mr. Robert Francis "Bobby" Ford, 61, of 3013 Collier Drive died at his residence on Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998.
Mr. Ford's funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998 in the Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel. Interment will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
Bobby Ford was born in Brooklyn, New York on Oct. 24, 1936 to the late Francis and Elizabeth Brock Ford. He had lived in Smithfield for the past four years, before moving to Greensboro because of his health. Mr. Ford was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Ford is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Sylvia of Louisiana, Patricia Gennaro of New York and Mary Hoppes of New Jersey; five brothers, T.J. Ford of Greensboro, Francis Ford and Lawrence Ford of New York and Raymond Ford and John Ford of Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Forbis & Dick North Elm Street and other times at the residence.

Mrs. Ruth Etta Satcher Jones, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998.
Mrs. Jones funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998 in the Forbis & Dick Guilford College Chapel, with the Reverend Michael Usey officiating. Interment will follow in the Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ruth Etta Satcher Jones was born in Greensboro on Sept. 21, 1916 to the late Robert and Mary Satcher.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. William R. "Willie" Jones in 1996. Prior to Mr. Jones death in 1996, all who knew and loved them, could always find Willie and Ruth at the bowling lanes.
Survivors include her two daughters, Donna Fenton and husband, Mike of Greensboro, Delores Quinn and husband, John of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Pauline S. Adams and Edna S. Stanley of Greensboro; and four grandchildren, Amy F. Stevenson and husband, Jason, Kevin T. Quinn, Meaghan J. Quinn and Patrick D. Quinn.
There is not a scheduled visitation with the family.

WINSTON-SALEM -- Mr. Ellis Wendell Doss, Sr., 72, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at his residence.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Bill Chatman.
He was born Jan. 1, 1926 in Surry County to the late Charlie W. and Maude Wall Doss. Mr. Doss opened the first Tasty Freeze Restaurant in Winston-Salem. He was owner and operator of Doss' Grill Restaurants in Southside Winston-Salem for 14 years retiring in 1983. Then passing on his experience to his son at Doss' Grill Restaurant in Kernersville since his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Minnie Brooks Doss of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, June D. Callaway and husband, Steve of Winston-Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, E.W. (Windy) Doss, Jr. and wife, Tonya of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Kelsie, Kaylyn, Kendyl Doss and Andy Callaway; a sister, Mrs. Patsy D. Melton of Kernersville; a brother, Clifton Lee Doss of Texas.

Mr. George "Bill" Samuel Carter, Jr., a long time resident of Greensboro died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Carter was born on Dec. 23, 1929 in Forsyth County to Mr. and Mrs. George S. Carter, Sr.
He was of the Baptist faith and had worked as the plant manager of the Ellison Company for many years.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Cassie Jane Carter; daughters, Ann Elkins and Sharon McQuaigue, both of Greensboro, Mary Newnan of Asheboro; son, George S. Carter, III; mother, Mary Lewis of Florida; brother, Duke Carter of Welcome; sisters, Ethel Hicks of Winston-Salem and Peggy Makas of Florida. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Melissa, Tracy, Heather, Bobby, Chasity, Josh and Donovan.

Born in Pittsylvania County, Va. on April 19, 1926, to William R. and Mary Lizzie Glass Wilson, Mr. Woodson was a retired contractor and a member of Sassafras Grove Baptist Church, Yanceyville, NC.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gladys L. Woodson of the home; step-sons, Edward Martin; Garry Martin; Odell Martin; Charlie Martin; Darryll Martin; all of Cascade, Va.; daughter, Patricia W. Scales of Greensboro; step-daughter, Gladious M. Simmons of Axton, Va.; brothers, Jessie W. Woodson; Curtis Woodson; Ira Irby; Raleigh E. Woodson; Bobby Woodson; all of Danville, Va.; sisters, Annie M. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the Siler City Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Thomas Sweeley and the Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
A native of Graniteville, SC, Mrs. Reitzel attended Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC. She had been secretary to the vice-president at Duke University, secretary to the dean of Engineering at Clemson University and was retired from Chatham Insurance & Realty of Siler City. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Carroll Sunday School Class and the Mary Beth Group. She was also an American Red Cross Blood Mobile volunteer and a member of the Chatham Hospital Auxilary.
She is survived by one son, Baxter P. Reitzel, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Siler City; two brothers, John Denny of Florence, SC and Robert Denny of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sisters, Margaret Denny of Myrtle Beach, SC; Patty Denny of Columbia, SC; and Marian Hevner of Media, Pa. and two grandson, Douglas Reitzel and wife, Kim and Todd Reitzel and wife, Donna.

She is survived by one son, Baxter P. Reitzel, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Siler City; two brothers, John Denny of Florence, SC and Robert Denny of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sisters, Margaret Denny of Myrtle Beach, SC; Patty Denny of Columbia, SC; and Marian Hevner of Media, Pa. and two grandson, Douglas Reitzel and wife, Kim and Todd Reitzel and wife, Donna.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, at Siler City Presbyterian Church.

A native of Caswell County, she was a charter member of Emanuel Friends Church and a retired spinner for Fieldcrest Mills.
Survivors are her son, Bobby Lee Medford of Greensboro; sisters, Mrs. Helen French and Nannie Hall both of Reidsville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
