EDEN -- Walter Robert Biggs, 72, of 914 Willow St., died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his home. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery.

He was a native of Eden, a member of Kingdom Hall and a WWII Navy Veteran. Mr. Biggs was a retired electrician for Fieldcrest Mills.

Survivors are his three daughters, Joan Burnstine of Orlando, Fla.; Jean Stansbury of Roanoke Rapids; Mary Louise Dupont of Anaheim, Calif.; one son, Sonny Butts of Silver Springs, Md.; two sisters, Jackie Ragan and Gladys White both of Red Springs; one brother, Melvin Biggs of Eden; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Fair Funeral Home. 

WILLIE JEAN MAYFIELD BOWMAN

MOCKSVILLE -- Willie Jean Mayfield Bowman, 70, of 344 Campbell Rd., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Meadowbrook manor Nursing Center, Clemmons, after several years of declining health. 

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Mt. Zion Holiness Church, Mocksville, conducted by Bishop James Ijames. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born June 6, 1927, in Canon, Ga. to the late Sam Mayfield, she was educated in the public schools of Georgia, retired from Davie High School, and a member of the Mt. Zion Holiness Church, Mocksville, and the Deaconess Board.

She is survived by her husband Joseph "Joe" Bowman of the home; daughter, Phyllis B. Bohannon of Yadkinville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at Mt. Zion Holiness Church, Mocksville.

SUE GATLIN BRADY

BENNETT -- Mrs. Sue Gatlin Brady, 64, of 2480 Bennett-Siler City Rd., passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Chatham Hospital in Siler City. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Huggins and the Rev. Hayes Ritter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brady was a Randolph County native, a homemaker and a member of Antioch Christian Church.

Survivors are her husband, James Lynden Brady of the home; son, Melvin Brady (Debbie) of Bear Creek; daughters, Mrs. Janette Farrington (Warren) of Lusby, Md.; Mrs. Sylvia Ford (John) of Kernersville; Mrs. Pamella Salisbury (Robert) of Cameron; Mrs. Karen Garner (Shane) of Robbins; sisters, Mrs. Ruby Kiser and Mrs. Bessie Deaton; both of Seagrove; brothers, Recil Gatlin of Asheboro; Cecil Gatlin of Seagrove and David Gatlin of Tacoma, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

EDEN -- Lois Pruitt Carter, 85, of 603 Washburn Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at the Brian Center, Eden. 

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery.

A native of Danville, Va., she was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and was retired from Fieldcrest with 46 years of service.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Anna Carter of Ridgeway, Va.; sisters, Alma Hundley of Eden; Maria Vaughn of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Fair Funeral Home in Eden and also at the home, 603 Washburn Ave.

LUCY CASSIDY CURTIS

Lucy Cassidy Curtis departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Moses Cone Extended Care in Greensboro. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Hargett Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Elizabeth A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Julian.

Lucy Cassidy Curtis was born April 2, 1910, in Seagrove, to the late Francina and George Cassidy. She later moved to Climax, where she married the late Lester W. Curtis. Lucy was a devoted and committed member of Elizabeth A.M.E. Church for the past 55 years, where she served on the Missionary Board, the church Building Fund Committee and the Sunday School Department. Lucy was a beautiful woman in the Lord, who worked faithfully providing for her family, while also helping various community activities.

She leaves to cherish her memories, 10 children, surviving are Mary Whitsett of Pleasant Garden; Martha Feaster of Greensboro; Gurney Curtis of Las Vega, Nev.; Chloe Elliott of Greensboro; Elizabeth Curtis of Pleasant Garden; Walter Curtis of Greensboro; Brenda Shelton of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Lois Whitworth of Greensboro and Wayne Curtis of Greensboro. She was predeceased by one child, Dorothy Curtis. Also surviving are two brothers, Clinton Cassidy and Elmer Cassidy; one sister, Eva B. Green; all of Seagrove; 31 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, at Hargett Memorial Chapel. Other times, they will be at Chloe Elliott's home, 1301 Cartwright Drive, Greensboro.

ROBBINS -- Ernest Theodore Dennis, 94, of Pinehurst Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and formerly of Robbins, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at the center. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at the Elise Presbyterian Church in Robbins.

WADE "JIMMY" DURHAM

Wade "Jimmy" Durham, 70, of 703 Coronado Dr., died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Durham was a retired 1st Sgt. of the U.S. Army with 26 years service and served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of New Covenant Wesleyan Church. He was predeceased by his father & mother, Wade E. and Martha T. Durham and his brother, Wilbur E. Durham.

Survivors are his wife, Talmage H. Durham of the home; sons, Darryl W. Durham of Virginia Beach, Va. and Vincent E. Durham, U.S. Marine Corps, Jacksonville; daughter, Valencia D. Walker of Virginia Beach, Va.; two step-children, Robert B. Hall of Midlothian, Va. and Elaine H. Shelton of Hurt, Va.; brothers, Kenneth Durham of Roxboro; Marion Durham of Lugoff, SC; and Delmar Durham of Greensboro; sisters, Virginia D. Malloy of Greensboro; and Ellie "Polly" D. Goins of Greensboro; and 11 grandchildren.

DAVID BRUCE EVANS

RALEIGH -- Mr. David Bruce Evans, 50, of 2324 Stevens Road, formerly of Greensboro, died while away from home in Burke County. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clifford A.H. Pike, Minister of St. Luke's Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Park, Salisbury.

He was born May 27, 1947, in Raleigh, to the late Mr. Bruce T. Evans and Mrs. June Waddell Evans of Salisbury. He was a graduate of Bettendorf High School in Iowa and attended the University of Iowa. He was employed with Reeve-Smith Motor Company in Raleigh. He had worked as a volunteer with the reading program in the Greensboro Elementary Schools and will be remembered for his work in distributing bicycles for needy children, while living in Greensboro. He was a mentor with Citizens in the Schools Program in Raleigh.

Survivors include his mother Mrs. June Waddell Evans of Salisbury; son, Mr. James Evans of Sunnyvale, Calf.; daughter, Miss Sunny Evans of Greensboro; sisters, Mrs. Diana Ricketts of Chapel Hill and Mrs. Lora Evans Morf of Raleigh.

The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, until time for the service in the St. Agnes Room of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Other times, at the home of his mother, 503 Sycamore Rd., Salisbury.

LOUISE WHITESELL FOGLEMAN

WHITSETT -- Mrs. Louise Whitesell Fogleman, 62, of 714 S. NC 61, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Allen Myers, Pastor of the Church, assisted by the Rev. Lester Stanley and the Rev. Jess Montegudo. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

She was born in Guilford County, to the late Vance Dick Whitesell and Mattie Pauline Chrismon Whitesell, who survives. She owned and operated Louise's Coiffures fro 20 years and later was a bookkeeper for D.L. Fogleman Trucking Co. for 18 years. She was a member of Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ and a former member of the Burlington Moose Lodge.

She is survived by her husband, Dewey L. Fogleman of the home; godchild, Mrs. Jennifer Fogleman Hamby of Burlington; mother, Mrs. Mattie Chrismon Whitesell of McLeansville; four brothers, John F. Whitesell of Pleasant Garden; Dwight L. Whitesell of Reidsville; Gary D. Whitesell and Michael L. Whitesell; both of McLeansville; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret W. Clapp of McLeansville and Mrs. Deborah Case of Gibsonville.

Mrs. Fogleman will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Other times, they will be at the residence.

BEATRICE GASKEW GRIFFIN

Mrs. Beatrice Gaskew Griffin, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, at the Wesley Long Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Griffin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 3520 McKnight Mill Road.

Beatrice Gaskew Griffin was born on Feb. 9, 1912 in Edwards, Miss., the daughter of Albert and Ellen Walker Gaskew. She had resided in Greensboro since 1988, where she was a homemaker. Mrs. Griffin was a devoted Jehovah's Witness for over 50 years.

Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Griffin and twin sons, George Griffin, Jr. and Jerome Griffin.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Griffin Bell of Greensboro and Beatrice Kay Griffin of Asbury Park, NJ; a son, David A. Griffin of Atlantic City, NJ; one brother, Lamuel; and two sisters, Liza and Roberta; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; nephews; and friends, who will truly miss her.

Forbis and Dick North Elm Street is serving the family of Mrs. Griffin.

REIDSVILLE -- William Russell Manley, 80, of 1576 Grooms Road, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Annie Penn Hospital. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Covington Wesleyan Church. Burial will be in Reidlawn Cemetery.

A native of Rockingham County, he was a retired farmer and was formerly employed at Reidsville Locker Plant, and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Mays Manley.

Survivors include his wife, Edith McClintock Manley of Reidsville; daughter, Carol Driscoll and husband, Preston of Reidsville; sons, Benny Manley and wife, Sandra; Skip Gunn and wife, Martha; Max Gunn and wife, Virginia; all of Reidsville; five grandchildren, Jeffery; Tyler; Wendy; Danny and Kelly; sister, Velma M. Cobb of Ruffin; brothers, Elwood Manley of Reidsville; Thornton Manley and Clarence W. Manley both of Ruffin; Rufus Gordon Manley; Webster Manley and Wayne Manley; all of Reidsville.

Survivors are her husband, Mr. Grant E. Mauldin of the home; seven daughters, Matilda Miller; Peteri Murdock; Joan Cheek; Shirley Emerson; Cynthia Brooks; Sandra Mauldin; and Felicia Mauldin; one son, Timothy E. Mauldin; one foster daughter, Hattie Marsh; one sister, Mrs. Arzell Wiley; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

SNOW CAMP -- Raymond M. Moore, 65, of 1355 Quakenbush Rd., died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. 

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Cane Creek Friends Meeting. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery.

A native of Alamance County, Mr. Moore was employed with Brookwood Farms, Siler City and was owner/operator of F&M Small Engines. He attended Cane Creek Friends Meeting and was retired from the Snow Camp Fire Department.

He is survived by three daughters, Ellen Ludington of Siler City; Annette Petty of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Susan Wills of Snow Camp; three grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Moore of Browns Summit; and James Small of Bradenton, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. Other times, they will be at the home of Doug and Susan Wills, 2464 Greensboro-Chapel Hill Rd., Snow Camp.

RANDLEMAN -- Linda G. Murphy, 56, daughter of the late Percy and June Gibson, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, after three and one half years of declining health. 

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Forbis and Dick Chapel, 1118 N. Elm St., Greensboro. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.

A Christian homemaker, she was a resident of Greensboro and Atlantic Beach, NC.

She is survived by her husband, John Murphy, Sr.; son, John Murphy, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Renie Murphy and grandson, Joshua Murphy of Manassas, Va.; sister, Brenda Aydelette of Greensboro; brother Chip Gibson of Marshallberg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at the funeral home.

William R. Redding, 83, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, in Guilford Memorial Park.

A native of Randolph County, Mr. Redding was a member of D.A.V. and N.A.R.F.E. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Louise Redding of the home; daughters, Sandra Redding of Burlington and Sherri and husband, Matthew Ronn of Winston-Salem; son, William Ronald Redding of Greensboro; brothers, Harold Redding of Alamo, Texas; and Fred Redding of Liberty; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
