SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Coleman Parker Altman, 81, of Santa Cruz, formerly
of Dunn, N.C., died Monday.
Mr. Altman was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for the civil
service for 30 years in Washington.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cromartie-Miller
& Lee Funeral Home chapel in Dunn by Dr. Karl Minor.
Mr. Altman is survived by his wife, Viola Altman of Santa Cruz; two
daughters, Judy Barber of Charlotte, N.C., and Verna Groovertrom of Darlington,
S.C.; and a sister, Evelyn Altman-Ladd of Sarasota, Fla.

ABERDEEN -- Bayne Franklin Starnes, 78, of 285 Memory Lane, died Monday
in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Starnes was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked for Carolina
Galvanizing Inc. before retiring.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Carter Funeral
Home chapel in Ellerbe by the Rev. Sanders Read. Burial will be in Ellerbe
Cemetery.
Mr. Starnes is survived by his wife, Freida W. Starnes of the home;
two sons, Bayne F. Starnes Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., and Reynolds L. Starnes
of Houston; two daughters, Judy S. Cameron of Vass and Kay S. Blue of Pinebluff;
nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
