Mr. Allen was a teacher for the Brunswick County Schools before retiring.

Mr. Allen is survived by a daughter, Patricia E. Allen of Tar Heel;

both of Raleigh; and three grandchildren.

SANFORD -- Dr. Peter Raymond Berst, 67, of Sanford, died Wednesday
in Central Carolina Hospital.
Dr. Berst was a dentist.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Stephen Catholic
Church by Father John Forbes. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard
Funeral Home of Sanford.
Dr. Berst is survived by his wife, Eileen P. Berst of Sanford; a sister,
Marianne E. Berst of Aiken, S.C.; and two brothers, Francis A. Berst of
Buffalo, N.Y., and Brian J. Berst of Colorado.

James R. Clayton
SOUTHERN PINES -- James Richardson Clayton, 86, of Southern Pines,
died Saturday in Saint Joseph of the Pines Health Facilities.
Mr. Clayton owned an operated Masonic Temple Barber Shop for 45 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school secretary
for more than 21 years. Mr. Clayton was also a member of the Southern Pines
Lions Club.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Clayton is survived by his wife, Janette P. Clayton; a daughter,
Joy Clayton of Southern Pines; two brothers, Henry A. Clayton of Southern

Oliver J. Cline
Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Oliver Junior Cline, 71, of 3139 Metthame
St., Fayetteville, died Saturday in his home.
Mr. Cline served in the Army for more than 20 years. He was a veteran
of the Korean War where he was a Prisoner of War for three years. During
his career, he received several medals and awards including, National Defense
Service Medal with oak leaf cluster. Mr. Cline was a member of Immanuel
Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Baptist
Church by the Rev. David Crumpler. Burial with military honors will be
in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Cline is survived by his wife, Mary Cline of the home; a son, Tommy
W. Cline of Boone; two brothers; a sister; and three grandchildren.

of First Baptist Church where she was an organist and was awarded Mother
of the Year in 1968.
