SPRING LAKE -- Mrs. Mary Agnes Scalf, 79, of Spring Lake died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Scalf was a homemaker and a member of Spring Lake First Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Sandy Marks and Dr. Ralph Richardson. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Scalf is survived by a son, Barney R. ’‘Ronnie’’ Scalf of Atlanta; three daughters, Marsha J. McDonald and Carol Hessenflow, both of Fayetteville, and Nena G. Morton of Roxboro; a brother, Oscar Mintz of Shallotte; three sisters, Edith M. Grissett of Calabash, Edna M. Milligan of Shallotte and Lottie M. Howard of Ocean Isle Beach; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Adcock Funeral Home.

SANFORD -- Grover Allen, 69, of 3924 Pineline Drive died Wednesday in his home.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph Douglas. 
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Marilyn B. Allen of Sanford; two sons, Larry Allen of Sanford and Garry Allen of Newport; a sister, Doris Clough of Lawrence, Kan.; five grandchildren.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Allie Mae Haire Walters, 75, of Elizabethtown died Wednesday in Elizabethtown Nursing Center.
Mrs. Walters was the owner and operator of Work Amusement at Goldston’s Beach at White Lake. She was a member of the Miami Showman’s Association ladies auxiliary and volunteered at Miami Children’s Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kinlaw Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Tony Owens. Burial will be in Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
Mrs. Walters is survived by two daughters, Bonnie S. Welgatt of LaSalle, Ill., and Catherne Houk of Newnan, Ga.; a son, Gilbert Glenn of Elizabethtown; a sister, Mary A. Poston of Charlotte; two brothers, Elmer L. Haire of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Charles C. Haire of Fuquay-Varina; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

CHARLOTTE -- Dale W. Darr, 40, of 6700 Highbrook Drive, formerly of Laurinburg, died Sunday in his home.
Mr. Darr was a self-employed construction worker.

SANFORD -- Paul Boyd Cochran Jr., 69, of 5106 Quail Hollow Road died Saturday in Central Carolina Hospital.
Mr. Cochran was an Air Force veteran. He was a chemical engineer with Dupont before retiring.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by Carl McNally. 
Mr. Cochran is survived by his wife, Mary K. Cochran; three daughters, Robyn Knight, Kimberly Longo and Melissa Werle, all of California; his father, Paul B. Cochran Sr. of York, Pa.; two sisters, Marjorie Lang of Broomall, Pa., and Patricia Davis of Felton, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday after the service at Carolina Trace Country Club for dinner.

Mr. Allen was a teacher for the Brunswick County Schools before retiring.

SOUTHERN PINES -- James Richardson Clayton, 86, of Southern Pines, died Saturday in Saint Joseph of the Pines Health Facilities.
Mr. Clayton owned an operated Masonic Temple Barber Shop for 45 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school secretary for more than 21 years. Mr. Clayton was also a member of the Southern Pines Lions Club.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Oliver Junior Cline, 71, of 3139 Metthame St., Fayetteville, died Saturday in his home.
Mr. Cline served in the Army for more than 20 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he was a Prisoner of War for three years. During his career, he received several medals and awards including, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster. Mr. Cline was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. David Crumpler. Burial with military honors will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

LUMBERTON -- Ms. Linell Strickland, 40, of McDaniel Road, died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Island Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Locklear. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson’s Funeral Home of Pembroke.
Ms. Strickland is survived by two daughters, Ariel Lowery of Lumberton and Crystal Lowery of Red Springs; a son, Jeriah Lowery of Lumberton; two sisters, Carolyn Strickland of Maxton and Cheryl Oxendine of Lumberton; and seven brothers, W.J. Strickland of Manassas, Va., Harold R. Strickland, Ronald G. Strickland and James E. Strickland, all of Pembroke, Earl H. Strickland and Johnny R. Strickland, both of Lumberton, and Jeff Strickland of Durham.
The family will receive friends today beginning at 7 p.m. at the church and at other times at the home of Ms. Carolyn Strickland.

Inez E. Washington
Mrs. Inez Elliott Washington, of 398 Slocomb Road, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Lexington Hospital in Columbia, S.C.
Mrs. Washington was a federal loan technician in Columbia.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, McArthur Road by Speaker George Elliott. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.
Mrs. Washington is survived by a son, Gregory Westfield of Wilmington; her mother, Lizzie Elliott of Fayetteville; four sisters, Doris McKeathan, Kathia Ennett, Sylvia Elliott and Debra Elliott, all of Fayetteville; five brothers, John Elliott, Daniel Elliott, James Elliott, Wilbert Elliott and Samuel Elliott, all of Fayetteville; and a grandson.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.

Grace G. Windley
LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Grace Groves Windley, of Nevada Street, died Wednesday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Mrs. Windley was an educator for Lumberton, Whiteville and Fairmont City schools and Warren County schools before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was an organist and was awarded Mother of the Year in 1968.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church, Second Street, by Dr. E.B. Turner. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
Mrs. Windley is survived by her husband, Clark E. Windley Sr. of the home; two daughters, Donna L. Windley of Fairmont and Christina W. Howell of San Antonio; a son, Clark E. Windley Jr. of Lumberton; a sister, Thelma G. Turner of Goldston; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at McMillan Funeral Home in Lumberton.
