Mr. Victor Connell
CONCORD -- Victor “Vic” Connell, 51, of Concord, departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. 
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Funderburk officiating. Burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens. 
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Victor was born Feb. 19, 1950 in Mecklenburg County, the son of the late William Dennis Connell and Helen Stewart Connell.
He served this country in the United States Army from 1969-1971 in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Charlotte and attended CPCC. Vic started his own business and was the owner of V.F.C. electric, he then decided to sell the business and go to work for the Home Depot, in the electrical department. He was in the electrical business for over 25 years and was very knowledgeable about his trade.
Vic loved to fish and he was an avid angler. He also enjoyed cooking, especially the fish that he caught. Vic was very talented with his garden and truly loved flowers. He was a brother that was deeply loved and immensely cherished by his family.
He is survived by his brother, Dennis Michael Connell of Charlotte; sisters, Kathy Connell Collins and her husband, Darrell W. of Pinehurst, Brenda Connell Cauble of Midland, and Debbi Connell Sanders and her husband Richard D. of Charlotte; nieces, Sandy Mullis of Kannapolis and Helen Elisabeth “Hess” Sanders of Charlotte; nephews, Ryan Shane Cauble of Ashburn, VA and David Michael Connell of Jacksonville, FL.

CHARLOTTE -- Virginia Lunette Crosby Flowe, 60, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New St. John Baptist Church on St. John Road in Newell, N.C. Burial will follow at York Memorial in Charlotte. The Rev. Robert Leak will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Funeral Home. 
Born in Chester County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late James T. and Marie Crank Crosby. She was a graduate of Second Ward High School. She also attended Barber-Scotia College.
Survivors include her devoted and loving husband of 26 years, Billy W. Flowe of the home; four sisters, Lillie Clinkscales of Charlotte, Helen Grier of Charlotte, Connie Crosby-Simpson of Chester, S.C. and Martha B. McCullough of Rock Hill, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

ROCKWELL -- G.C. “Pete” Harwood, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001.

KANNAPOLIS -- Moranda Jane Grissom Kiser, 95, of 5730 Charlie Walker Rd., Kannapolis, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Transitional Healthcare.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Ronald E. Miller will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Born June 22, 1906 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Govan Grissom and the late Julia Gilmore Grissom. She was a retired elevator operator and a member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Zion Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sibbie G. Cannon of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Kenneth McDaniel of Kannapolis, Henry G. Cannon of Charlotte, Evelyn C. Reliford of Kannapolis, Alfred Cannon of the home; Samuel L. Cannon of the home, and Stephen Anderson of Washington, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Charlene E. Wiggins of Washington, D.C.; sister-in-law, Montrose Reid of Concord; 24 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS -- Dorothy Alexander Taylor, 87, of 4876 Boy Scout Camp Road, Kannapolis, and formerly of Sparta, N.C., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Graham Nahouse will officiate.

Born March 6, 1914, in Ashe County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late H.K. Miller and Vannie Orsborne Miller. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. after 35 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman Wiley Alexander and Robert Taylor; and a son, D. Kenneth Alexander.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Glenn Alexander of Kannapolis; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

CONCORD -- Conred Ray Cooke, 73, of 215 Goodman Circle, Concord, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. David Myers will officiate.

Born April 16, 1928, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Harold Craig Cooke and Nell Hendren Cooke. He worked at the U.S. Post Office in Kannapolis as a distribution clerk until his retirement. He was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee, deacon, Sunday school director and teacher, and was also a member of the church choir and various quartets and singing groups. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, Chapter 853, and the National Federation of Distribution Clerks.
He was preceded in death by two step-children, Sherry Rodgers Smith and William Barry Rodgers.
Survivors include his wife, Lanas Tucker Rodgers Cooke; a daughter, Sandra Cooke Craft of Kannapolis; a sister, Phyllis Colleen Cooke of Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Born Jan. 20, 1912, in Union County, she was the daughter of the late David Alexander and Russia Tarlton Tarlton. She worked at Cannon Mills for 48 years. She was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church and Bethpage Home Demonstration Club.
Survivors include her husband, J.R. McKinley; one son, Jeter McKinley and his wife Marilyn of Kannapolis; one sister, Sybil Gray of Concord; and five grandchildren, Jennifer Jarrell, Joseph Mckinley, James McKinley, John McKinley, and Shannon DeArmon.

Born March 8, 1926, in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Lizzie Lambert Cline and Clyde William Lambert. She attended Iredell County Schools. She was a housewife and a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Robinson, in 1982. 
Survivors include her sister, Shelby Lambert Stroup of Kannapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Lydia Warwick
WILMINGTON -- Lydia Pittman Warwick of Wilmington died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, in the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
She was born in Fairmont, N.C., Sept. 12, 1919, the daughter of the late Archie Duncan and Bertie Hedgepeth Pittman.
Mrs. Warwick was a devoted member of the Pine Valley Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, sister, grandmother and a devout child of God.
She is survived by her children, Parris Warwick and wife Karen of Wilmington, and Paula Capristo of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Suzanne Dean and husband Aaron of Wilmington, Michael Capristo of Wilmington, and Jennifer Ingram and husband Bill of Ash, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Michael Logan Ingram, John Ingram and Colby Ingram; a sister, Mary Edmond of Lumberton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in the Pine Valley Baptist Church by Dr. Glen Bohannon and Mrs. Ruth Murray.
Entombment will follow in the Oleander Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108, S. College Road.

Mr. Harry Adcock
CONCORD -- Harry Lee Adcock, 56, of 7323 Sagebrush Circle, Concord, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at NorthEast Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Craig Avenue Tabernacle APR Church in Charlotte. The Rev. Dr. John E. Hill will officiate.
The family will receive friends after the service.
Born Jan. 12, 1945, in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late William Cleveland Adcock. He was retired from Hudson Brothers Trailer, where he worked as an Equipment Mechanic. He was an avid NASCAR fan of Jeff Gordon and a die hard Braves fan, a beloved son, husband, and father. Married for 28 years, his children participated in sports and he was a coach for those teams. He was a member of Craig Avenue Tabernacle APR Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, a sister Ethel Adcock, and his favorite companion Buddy. 
Survivors include his wife, Becky Hancock Adcock; a son, Jason Wesley Adcock and fiancee Tiffany Wood of Concord; a daughter, Julie Amanda Adcock and fiancee Allen Foster of Concord; his mother, Della Ledford Adcock of Concord; and two brothers, Paul Adcock of Indian Trail and Gene Adcock of Charlotte.

Mrs. Blanche Almond
ALBEMARLE -- Blanche Juanita Lowder Almond, 86, of 27799 Hatley Farm Road, Albemarle, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Britthaven of Piedmont.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Friendship United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Roy Sides will officiate. Burial will be at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Albemarle.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. At other times they will be at the home, 27799 Hatley Farm Road, Albemarle.
Born Feb. 25, 1915, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Alma Eudy Lowder and Lonzo “L.P.” Lowder.
She worked at Wiscassett Mill in Albemarle, and later as a weaver at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis. She was active in the United Methodist Women and the Fellowship Sunday School Class as long as her health permitted. She faithfully visited the sick and shut-ins while she was able, and loved her church.
Survivors include her husband, Milas L. Almond of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Alton and Frances Almond of Allen, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Donald and Cindy Almond of Temecula, Calif., daughter and son-in-law Linda A. and Wayne McSwain of Kure Beach, daughter and son-in-law Judy A. and Dwight Troutman of Albemarle, brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Jeannette Lowder of Albemarle, and sister Marie L. Hatley of Albemarle. She had 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Lowder and a sister, Faye Loudermilk.

Mrs. Betty C. Christy 
KANNAPOLIS -- Betty C. Christy, 68, of 5264 Old Concord-Salisbury Road, Kannapolis, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Thoms Rehabilitation Center in Asheville.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mount Mitchell United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. David Duncan and Dr. Harold Bales. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Lady's Funeral Home. At other time they will be at the home of Jim and Bonnie Christy, 5248 Old Concord-Salisbury Road, Kannapolis.
Born Feb. 18, 1933, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Carlton F. Collins and the late Beatrice Reece Collins. She owned and operated the Gift Corner in Kannapolis. She was a former teacher in the Kannapolis City Schools. She was a lifetime member of Mount Mitchell United Methodist Church, where she served in many leadership roles, including president of the United Methodist Women, church treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, past chair of the administrative board, and many others. She was also active on the conference level, having served on the Board of Pensions, finance committee, and currently was on the Board of the Children's Home, and Aldersgate Retirement Community. She was a dedicated member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honorary Teacher's Organization, and was past state president. Above all, she was a faithful, loving, and dedicated wife whose untimely home-going leaves a void that cannot be filled. She will be missed but memories of her will be forever cherished.
Survivors include her husband, John Christy, and a brother, Allan Collins of Kannapolis.

Ms. Patsy Ervin
MOORESVILLE -- Patsy Ann Ervin, 60, of 708 Langtree Road, Mooresville, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at her home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. The Rev. Darrell Coble will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. At other times they will be at the home of her brother, Floyd “Buddy” Ervin, at 2909 Walter Drive N.W., Concord.
Born March 28, 1941, in Mooresville, she was the daughter of the late Elsie Maxwell Ervin and Floyd P. Ervin. She worked at Concord Telephone as a telephone operator and was a 1959 graduate of Odell High School.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Floyd “Buddy” and Gail H. Ervin; sister and brother-in-law Peggy E. and Kenneth Miller Jr., all of Concord; companion, Sally A. Kelley of Mooresville; two nephews, Kenneth L. Miller Jr. and Brian L. Ervin; and two nieces, Lori Ann Miller and Kelly Ervin.

Mrs. Angela Hawkins
SALISBURY -- Angela Dawn Beaver Hawkins, 24, of 1209 Davis St., Salisbury, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a sudden, brief illness.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Spencer. Burial will follow at Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery in Spencer. The Rev. Franklin Myers will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Elizabeth Hawkins, at 408 S. Rowan Ave., Spencer.
Born April 5, 1977, in Concord, she was the daughter of Wanda Goodman Beaver and Bobby Leonard Beaver of Enochville. She was educated in South Rowan Schools and graduated from Rowan High School's class of 1995. She also attended Rowan Cabarrus Community College and worked at Merita Bread Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church where, along with her husband, she co-headed the nursery department at the church.
Survivors include her parents; husband, Joseph B. “Joe” Hawkins, who she married May 17, 1997; son, Jordan Blake Hawkins; two daughters, Brooklyn Nicole Hawkins and Carolina Elizabeth Hawkins, all of the home; twin sisters, Melinda Lynn Beaver and Melissa Lee Beaver, both of Enochville; maternal grandparents, Paul and Ruby Johnson Goodman of Landis; paternal grandparents, Charles and stepgrandmother Allene Beaver of Sanford, Fla. and Sarah Jordan Goodman and stepgrandfather Harold Goodman of Landis; and paternal great-grandfather, Calvin Jordan of Mooresville.

Born July 20, 1941, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Stella Lee Eudy Moyle and Luther Foye Moyle. He worked at American and Efird Mill opening cotton.
Survivors include his two brothers, Jack Moyle and Foye Moyle, both of Mount Pleasant; and four sisters, Ruby M. Eudy and Annie Lillian M. Almond, both of Albemarle, Betty Lou M. Newell and Hilda Jane M. Bean, both of Concord.
