Mr. Tim “Howie” Brown
CONCORD -- Tim “Howie” Brown of Concord and formerly of Ypsilanti, 37, died Monday, October 1, 2001. 
He was born February 25, 1964 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Tim was an Ypsilanti area resident the majority of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle of North Carolina; a son, Austin James; his mother, Shirley Johnston; his father and step-mother, John and Phyllis Brown; two brothers; one sister; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer-Logan Chapel Ypsilanti, Michigan, with Elder Ronald Harris of Community of Christ Church in Ann Arbor. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

KANNAPOLIS -- Ricky Dale Jones, 43, of 1530 Longbow Drive, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, October 2, 2001, on arrival at NorthEast Medical Center. Death was unexpected.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. David Myers will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his mother at 102 Arlene Ave., Kannapolis.
Born Feb. 6, 1958 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Robert Jones and Lois Deese Jones of Kannapolis. He was employed with Ingersol-Rand, Inc. in Davidson for many years. He was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of the area. He graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1976 where he held 12 years of perfect attendance.
In addition to his mother, survivors include two brothers, Jerry Jones of China Grove and David Jones of Kannapolis; his sister, Cathy Upright of Kannapolis; his son, Brian Jones of Kannapolis; and his daughter, Krysta Jones of Kannapolis.

Mr. Robert (Red Wing) Lynch
KANNAPOLIS -- Robert Frank Lynch (Red Wing), 70, of 1528 Buffalo Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, October 2, 2001, on arrival at NorthEast Medical Center. Death was unexpected.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Revs. Joe Rahme and Billy Honeycutt will officiate.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home. 
Born Sept. 19, 1931 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Albert Lynch and Minnie Shook Lynch. He was employed with Cannon Mills Co., Plant #1 in the Slasher Room and later Towel Printing for many years until his retirement in 1994. In his earlier years, he was active in racing cars on dirt tracks. In his later years he enjoyed working on small mechanical engines including lawn mowers and weed eaters. He was a lifetime resident of the area and was a C.B. radio operator who used the name “Red Wing.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Johnson Lynch, who died Jan. 18, 1996.
Survivors include his daughter, Shelby L. Carpenter of China Grove; a brother, James Lynch of Kannapolis; two granddaughters, Donya McCoy of Landis and Dia Overcash of Kannapolis; and two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Leah McCoy.

BALTIMORE -- Leola Marie Wilson Owens, 94, of 1736 Druid Hill Ave., Baltimore, Maryland, died Sunday, September 30, 2001, at Mount Siani Hospital in Baltimore of natural causes after being ill for two years.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Clark Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. 
The family will receive friends between the hour of 1 to 2 p.m. at the chapel on Saturday. At other times they will be at the home of Cloise Washington at 1502 N. Ridge Avenue, Kannapolis.
Born May 5, 1907 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Jule Wilson and the late Salina Harris Wilson. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include several nieces; nephews; great-neices; great-nephews; devoted friends Annie Mae Carol and Beverly Newton of Baltimore; and other relatives and many friends.

Born Oct. 21, 1946 in Union County, she was the daughter of Troy Broome, Sr. and Ethel Helms Broome. She was educated in Cabarrus County Schools and was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Rufty of the home; her son, Mark Dalton of China Grove; three daughters, Kandy Horne of China Grove, Patricia Rollins and Kim Helms, both of Kannapolis; a brother, Troy Broome, Jr. of Kannapolis; a sister, Lynn Broome of Greenville; and eight grandchildren.

Born Jan. 19, 1955, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late William “Moon” Howard Deaton Sr. and Gladys Anderson Deaton of Kannapolis. She was employed with Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for 15 years. She was later employed with the Sanger Clinic in Charlotte as a pacemaker nurse. Later, she worked with Medtronic Inc., in Charlotte where she visited clinics throughout North Carolina programming pacemakers for patients. She was a 1973 graduate of A.L. Brown High School, and a 1975 graduate of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She was formerly affiliated with Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis and was a lifetime resident of the area.
In addition to her mother, survivors include a brother, William “Bill” Deaton Jr., and a sister, Ann C. Deaton, both of Charlotte.

Born July 7, 1921, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of Marion and Willie Johnson.

CONCORD -- Oscar Douglas Mincy, 85, of 37 Rosegaye Ave., Concord, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Five Oaks Nursing Center.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum in Kannapolis. The Rev. Jake Shoemaker will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by DAV Chapter 27.

Born May 20, 1916, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Jesse Ola Whitaker Mincy and D.L. Mincy. He was retired from Plumbers & Pipefitters Union No. 71. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mincy.
Survivors include three daughters, Sue Strube of Concord, Ann Myers of Woodleaf and Deborah Thomas of Georgetown, S.C.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister.

Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late Lacey Dalton and the late Annie Edwards Williams. Mrs. Overcash retired in 1974 from Cone's Mill as a winder. She was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Julian Bost Circle and was also a member of the Happy Seniors.
Survivors include her husband, Max Overcash of the home; a son, Demps Brawley of Elken, Md.; a brother, James Lee Williams; two sisters, Josey Young of Landis and Myrtle Lowder of China Grove; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Billie Ray “Pete” Taylor, 71, of the 800 block of Montgolfier Arch, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in a local hospital.
Mr. Taylor was born in Kannapolis, son of the late Lester Taylor and Charlotte Boone Taylor-Polk. He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer with 22 years of service. He retired as a Military Sales Representative for D&S Agencies. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association, Branch #99.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mildred Sherrill Taylor; his daughter, Sharon DeSantis and her husband David of Skaneateles, N.Y.; his son, Kenneth R. Taylor and his wife Cynthia of Woodbridge, Va.; two brothers, Jesse and his wife Jeanette of Ellenboro and Scott and his wife Nell of Salisbury; and four grandchildren, Crystal and Angela Taylor, and Dana and Patrick DeSantis.
The funeral was conducted Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Rev. Ernest Roebuck of Calvary Baptist Church. Military Honors were accorded at the Chapel. Burial will be private at a later date.
