Mr. Charlie Williams

CONCORD -- Charles “Charlie” James Williams Sr., 80, of 587 Union St. S. Concord, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at NorthEast Medical Center.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church. Father James Geiger, Father Edward Gray and Deacon Dan Carl will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers are members Knights of Columbus.

Prayer service at 7 p.m. tonight. Visition will follow service until 8:30 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at home, 587 Union St. S. Concord.

Born Jan. 28, 1922 in Spencer, NC the son of the late James B. and Rosa Boulus Williams. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, a founding organizer of St. James Barbecue, 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of US Army WWII, charter member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 27, VFW Post 6484, past Commander, State Historian, Member of American Legion Post 51, past chairman of DAV convention when held in Concord.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Taffy Williams.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sarah Kannon Williams; one daughter, Sister Paulette R. Williams, Sisters of Mercy of Charlotte; one son, Col. retired Charles J. Williams Jr. and wife Brenda of Concord; one sister Mary W. Davis of Concord; one brother, Tommie J. Williams and wife Lorraine of Concord; two grandchildren, Charles Williams III and wife Mikki, Michelle Lopez and husband John.

Mrs. Jean Weems Pearce Bennett

RALEIGH -- Jean Weems Pearce Bennett, a native of Raleigh, N.C., and graduate of Needham Broughton High School, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2002.

The funeral well be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Street Chapel of Brown Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh.

The family will receive friends at Brown Wynne Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

She was the daughter of the late William G. and Emily J. Weems, of Raleigh. She was a generous and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister who cherished books, flowers and her family. “Aunt Jean” was a lifelong organizer of fun for family and friends. Her home was always a gathering place for those she unselfishly loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Marvin Pearce, of Wendell.

Survivors include her son, Kyle Richardson Pearce and daughter-in--law Alice, of Kannapolis; daughter Kimberly Pearce Parker and son-in-law Richard, of Prescott, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kelly Ryan Pearce and Kevin Hunter Pearce; sisters, Patricia Weems Yarborough, Joan Weems Edge and Ellen Weems Glenn; brothers-in-law, James Edge and John Yarborough; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all.
 

Mrs. Mary Clark

CHARLOTTE -- Mrs. Mary Underwood Clark, 90, of Charlotte, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at Mecklenburg Health Care.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16 in the Hankins and Whittington Dilworth Chapel with the Reverend Michael Cummings officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A service of committal will follow at 3 p.m. Thursday in Bonlee Cemetery in Siler City with visitation to follow in the Bonlee Baptist Church.

Born January 10, 1912 in Sampson County, NC, Mrs. Clark was a daughter of the late William J. and Blanche Johnson Underwood. Following graduation from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, she taught school 30 years at Bonlee School and Siler City Elementary School.

Mrs. Clark was a member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte, as well as the church's Fun Monday Craft Group and Sarah Sunday School Class and was a former member and Sunday School teacher at Bonlee Baptist Church. She loved to travel and enjoyed painting, needlework, and various other crafts.

Survivors include two daughters, Julia C. Emerson and husband, Bill, of Charlotte and Frances C. Lee and husband, Ed, of Kannapolis; three sons, Willard J. Clark, Jr. of Burlington, John R. Clark and wife, Kay, of Goldston, and Robert A. Clark and wife Susan, of Oak Island; a sister, Julia P. Herring of Roseboro; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Willard J. Clark, and a brother, Alton C. Underwood, preceded her in death.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and nurses assistants at Mecklenburg Health Care.

Mrs. Elizabeth McManus

MIDLAND -- Elizabeth Ellen Heilig McManus, 92, of Midland, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Lake Park Nursing Center.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hartsell Funeral Chapel in Midland. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Arval Rushing will officiate.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Born July 6, 1909 in Rowan County the daughter of the late Laura Rose Ury and Joseph Henry Heilig. She was a graduate of Concord High School and a member of Mill Grove United Methodist Church, 13659 South, Hwy 601, Midland, NC 28107.

She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Franklin McManus and a grandson, Rusty Black.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol and husband Jim Black of Charlotte; one son, Curtis “Sam” and wife Linda McManus of Rockwell; one sister, Alma Rose Safrit of Concord; two grandchildren, Becky Broadway, Wendy Steen; four great-grandchildren, Russ Black, Tiffany Black, Matthew Broadway and Andrew Steen.

Mrs. Geraldine Wentz

CONCORD -- Geraldine Eddings Wentz, 81, formerly of Rural Drive, Concord, died May 13, 2002, at Avante of Concord.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Edwin Luther and Rev. Leroy Cox will officiate. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services.

The family will receive friends 7 to 9 tonight at Whitley's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at 2752 Walter Drive, Concord, the home of Fran Lancaster.

Born Dec. 12, 1920 in Great Falls, SC the daughter of the late Ernest E. Eddings and Hattie Davis Eddings. She was a member of North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church where she had been very active in various church activities in her earlier years including former choir member and soloist at church and had sang for many weddings and other functions throughout her lifetime and former Sunday school teacher; Retired from Cannon Mills Co. Winder Room.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Wentz who died in 1991.

Survivors include, a daughter, Fran Lancaster of Concord, a son, Peter Wentz of Fla., six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ernestine Basinger, Nora Lindholm, Betty Poteat all of Kannapolis; a brother, J.C. Eddings of Rockwell.

The grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mrs. Katie Wilhelm Bost 
CHINA GROVE -- Katie Wilhelm Bost, 83, of 290 Emma Rd., China Grove, died May 25th, 2002 at her residence. 

The funeral will be 8 p.m. today at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Richard Pethel, Chris Pethel, and Wayne Sipe will officiate. There will be a private burial at Concordia Lutheran Church. 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. 

Born December 5, 1918, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Grace Brown and the late Ernest Franklin Wilhelm. She received her education from Rowan County Schools and was retired from Cannon Mills in the Sewing room. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Arnold Lee Bost, married for 65 years; one son, Hoyle Bost, of China Grove; one sister, Doris Derrick, of Irmo, SC; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.

Ms. Eva Priscilla Crump

CONCORD -- Eva Priscilla Crump, 54, of 1450 B St., Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, May 24th, 2002 at NorthEast Medical Center. 

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Holy Church. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial Gardens. The Pastor Elvin Mickens and Rev. Rockford Penn will officiate. 

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church. 

Born November 24, 1947, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late John D. Morgan and the late Juanita Annie Mae Crump Dade. She worked at Alexander Nursing Home as a nursing aid. She was a member of the Zion Wesly AME Zion Church, Missionary. 

Survivors include one son, Charles Crump, of Kannapolis; two daughters, Zanita Avon Crump, of Concord, and Gail Crump, of Concord; one God daughter, Debra Cole, of Concord; two sisters, Gloria A. Morgan, of Concord, and Esther Dade, of Kannapolis; four brothers, John D. Morgan, Conway Morgan and Timothy Dade, all of Concord; and Herman P. Dade, of Gastonia, NC; one special friend, Harold J. Reid, of Mt. Pleasant; and one friend, Partia Lee Miller, of Mt. Pleasant; and four grandchildren.
 

Mrs. Erin Lee Favorite Lambert

CONCORD -- Erin Lee Favorite Lambert, 39, of 318 Honeycutt Dr., Concord, died at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, on Friday, May 24th. 

Whitley's funeral home is in charge of the arrangements. 
 

Mrs. Nellie Furr Smith 

MARSHVILLE, NC-- Nellie Furr Smith, 91, of 7404 Nance Tarlton Rd., Marshville, died Saturday, May 25th, 2002, at Union Regional Medical Center, Monroe. 

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartsell funeral home chapel in Midland. Burial will follow at Love's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stanfield. The Rev. Ned Christy will officiate. 

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. 

Born February 6, 1911, in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late Clementine Clontz Furr and the late Archie Baxter Furr. She was a packager for Frito-Lay. She was a member at Cole Memorial Methodist Church in Charlotte. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Nathaniel Smith. 

Survivors include one son, Bobby Ray Smith, of Matthews, NC; three daughters, Arlene Gaddy, of Marshville, NC, Anne Queen, of Matthews, NC; and Judy Clemons, of Mint Hill, NC; two brothers, Archie Clayton Furr, of Midland, NC, and Homer Furr, of Garden City, SC; one sister, Margie Hatley, of Asheboro, NC; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. 
 

Mr. Albert Clive Tucker 

MONROE -- Albert Clive Tucker, 83, of 2001 Brief Rd. E., Monroe, died Sunday, May 26th, 2002 at Autum Care in Marshville. 

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The Elder Larry Austin and the Rev. Lee Pig will officiate. 

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell funeral home in Midland. 

Born June 14, 1918, in Union County, he was the son of the late Ethel Adeline Helms Tucker and Wayne Tucker. He was a self employed farmer. 

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Duncan Tucker, of the home; one son, Jimmy Tucker and his wife Lena, of Monroe; one daughter, Reba Haigler and her husband Steve, of Monroe; six grandchildren, Mya, Keela, Evan Haigler, Matthew and Stephanie Tucker.
